Chapter 16: Sixteen Wires

A Cyberman marched through the forest on patrol when the brush to its left rustled, making him stop and turn mechanically toward the brush. The shout of three men bursting from the brush sounded through the trees, and Robin, John and Will threw themselves at the Cyberman. John leapt onto its back as Will grabbed onto its leg with Robin dangling from one of the arms as the Cyberman tried to throw them off.

"I am under attack!" it called as it thrashed.

"Will! Do it!" Robin shouted, straining under trying to remain on its arm.

Will pulled a dagger and stabbed it into the exposed wires under the armor of the Cyberman's leg as it still thrashed, and it disappeared with the men still hanging off of it. Once on the ship, they jumped off the Cyberman, Will yanking his dagger from its leg to let it fall back to the ground with a metal thud before they all raced down the hall. An alarm blared and a yellow light flashed from above as they found a secluded corner where John pulled out a piece of paper to let them all look it over.

"Right, this is where we are," John reported, pointing to the map in his hand drawn up by the Doctor. He dragged his finger to another spot on the paper and said, "This is where we need to be."

"Will, you have the instructions the Doctor gave you to take out the controls to this beast?" Robin recalled, and Will nodded, holding the paper up for them to see before tucking it away again. "Then let's get to it, lads."

Robin peeked out from behind their corner only to come face to face with a Cyberman, staring down at him.

"Intruder alert!"

"Run, men!" Robin shouted, lifting an arrow to stab the thing in the eye before yanking it out and racing after Will and John, heading for the control room of the ship.

Meanwhile...

The dark cargo hold was quiet before whirring sounded and a blue light flashed on and off slowly, a blue box materializing beneath the light. Once the TARDIS settled the door opened only slightly, allowing the Doctor to peek out before stepping out completely, clutching Olivia's hand to let her follow, the door shutting behind them.

"It doesn't look like there are many Daleks on board," he whispered, pulling her closer by the hand as he pulled his Sonic out with the other hand. "I still don't understand…why are they here?"

"Which one?" Olivia whispered.

"Either one of them," he replied, scanning the room with his Sonic.

"Maybe it was an accident?" she guessed. "Maybe they fell through time again? Both of them."

"Could be," he murmured, looking to the results on his Sonic. "Could be deliberate. Maybe the same thing that pulled us here, eh?"

He stepped toward the door at the end of the room to use his Sonic to open it. It slid open with a hiss and they were about to step through it when they froze at seeing a Dalek facing away from them at the controls. The Doctor slapped a hand over Olivia's mouth as she somehow kept from screaming and shoved her to the side, ducking back into the room to hide before he lowered his hand from her mouth.

"Did it see us?" she shuddered, quietly.

"No," he whispered, glancing out at the Dalek, still facing away from the door.

"What do we do?" she whispered.

"There's only one in there," he whispered back, turning to her and looking her in the eye. "When it leaves, we do what we came here to do and disembark."

"What if it doesn't leave?" she trembled, staring up at him in worry.

"Then…I have no idea," he whispered.

His eyes widened when he spotted the shadow of the Dalek in the doorway, and Olivia slapped a hand over her mouth to keep her gasp from being heard as it rolled past them, into the cargo hold. The Doctor grabbed Olivia's hand and dragged her out of the hold before closing the door and locking it with the Sonic Screwdriver.

"You sure you wanna lock that tin can in there with the TARDIS?" Olivia frowned in wonder as he made his way to the control panel.

"The TARDIS is safe," he replied, not looking away from the panel as the Dalek shouted incoherently behind the door, making Olivia jump and stare at it before inching closer to the Doctor.

"I thought that thing would've blasted itself outta there right away," she admitted, staring at the door.

"Limited power supply," he reminded her, aiming his Sonic at the panel before growling in frustration and slamming his fist on the panel to shout, "Blast! Deadlocked! I'll have to pull the panel off."

"Need help?" she asked as he started pulling at the panel.

"Just keep watch and scream if there's a Dalek," he strained under the effort of pulling the panel off.

"You'll know when there's a Dalek, believe me," she muttered as he yanked the panel off. "You think Robin and the guys are ok?"

"They're fine!" he assured her confidently, aiming his Sonic at the wires inside. "It's Robin Hood and his Merry Men! Why wouldn't they be alright?"

Meanwhile on the Cybership...

"Which one is it, Will?!" Robin snapped, leaning over a busted panel with wires sticking out of it.

"I can't read the instructions!" Will retorted, holding up two halves of a small piece of paper torn down the middle before he glared at the door of the control room. "Someone tore it in half trying to take it from me!"

"Why didn't you let it go?!" John snapped from the entrance, barricading it with his staff and his hands against the Cybermen trying to bash their way through it.

"Why did you need it?!" Will snapped back.

"Both of you, shut it!" Robin snarled, as Will examined the pieces of paper before looking back at the panel.

"This one!" Will shouted, slamming his fist down on a button. John shouted when a Cyberman's hand thrust through the opening doors to grab at him, making both men at the console whirl around to see the purpose of the button. "Woops! Nope."

Will slammed his hand down on the button again, making the doors close and lock on the Cyberman's arm, still searching for something to grab onto. John shouted in fright again when the Cyberman's arm was cut off from the body on the other side of the door from the force of the door closing on it, and he caught it as it fell.

"Oh, for the love of—!" Robin shouted before pulling at the paneling to yank off the cover and pull at the things inside. "Just start pulling at these colored strings! Something's bound to make this thing explode! John! Start hitting everything!"

Robin and Will started yanking at the wires as John dropped the arm that was still twitching and dragged something huge in front of the door to block it before grabbing his staff to run to the console and start hitting the panels. Sparks flew as they pulled wires and yanked off panels, but Robin froze and frowned when he felt something clamp down around his ankle. He looked down and shouted before the Cyberarm launched up from the floor and clasped onto his face, covering it entirely.

"Robin!" John shouted, grabbing onto the arm to try pulling it off Robin's face as Will fumbled through his pockets. "Will! Where's that stick Olivia gave you?!"

"It's not a stick!" Will snapped back as he pulled Olivia's Sonic from a pocket and fumbled with it. "It's a screwdriver!"

"Just use it!" Robin shouted, his voice muffled by the Cyberhand over his face.

"Point and think," Will muttered, recalling Olivia's instructions as he found the button, pressed down and pointed it at the arm, using his thoughts to tell the psychic interface to shut the arm down. The arm fell to the floor, dead as Robin gasped to catch his breath and Will smirked, flipping the Sonic in the air before catching it and bowing low. "You're quite welcome, Master Loxley."

The three chuckled before jumping and looking to the door as the Cybermen still tried to break through.

"Back to it, lads!" Robin ordered, whirling around to pull at wires as Will used the Sonic on his panels to sabotage it somehow and John went back to whacking things with his staff. "The Doctor better get here soon!"

On the Dalek Ship...

Olivia watched the Doctor fiddle with the wires from the panel, bending his long body over the edge to lean his elbows on it. Her gaze kept wandering to his rear as he shifted, the Sonic humming before she looked back to the door where she knew the Dalek was locked up. This time, however, she made a double-take that made her eyes shoot wide at the door.

"Right," the Doctor chirped, standing tall with the wires still in his fingers. "There are about sixteen wires here that might trigger the self-destruct…I think. It'll give us about a minute to get out of here and get the lads."

"Theta," Olivia trembled, staring at the door, but the Doctor didn't look away from his work. "How long is that going to take?"

"Not long, darling, don't panic," he assured her, using the Sonic on a wire.

"I'm panicking, because we have less time than you think."

"Ey?" he frowned, turning to look at her then looked at the door as she stared at it with huge eyes, and he finally saw a glowing red hot spot in the metal door. "Blast! Liv, get over here! Plan B!"

"What's plan B?!" she squeaked as he grabbed her hand to pull her next to him then yanked haphazardly at the wires in the panel. "Oh…of course."

She followed his lead, sparks flying until a red light flashed above them and a Dalek voice sounded over their heads.

"Self-destruct in thirty seconds."

"Not ideal, but it'll work," the Doctor replied before grabbing Olivia's hand and dragging her toward the door the Dalek was trying to melt.

He stopped short in front of it when he noticed it tremble and shoved Olivia to the side before ducking out of the way himself as the door shattered into pieces when the Dalek blasted through.

"Intruder!" the Dalek shouted, rolling into the control room. "You will be exterminated!"

"Come on!" the Doctor shouted, racing behind it as he dragged Olivia with him back toward the TARDIS. He stopped to unlock the door as the Dalek turned, Olivia staring at it with huge eyes as it approached. She clutched his arm as he fumbled to unlock the door then snarled, "Bloody hell, it's stuck!"

"You will exterminated!"

"Olivia! What are you doing?!"

She released him long enough to grab a pipe and swing it up toward the Dalek's eyestalk, hitting it clean off the head and sending sparks flying. It shot toward the TARDIS, hitting its frame just as the door finally released and the Doctor fell in from leaning on it, staring huge eyes at Olivia's attack. She took a downswing at the Dalek this time and its gun clattered to the floor when she knocked it off, sending more sparks into the air. The Doctor stared in awe at Olivia as she took more swings at the now dead Dalek before he was brought back to his senses by the countdown of the self-destruct sequence.

"Liv!" he called, scrambling to his feet and grabbing her arm as she still slammed the pipe into the metal. She roared at the now dead Dalek before the Doctor yanked her back and pulled her into the TARDIS, shutting the door and clutching her arms to force her to face him as she dropped the pipe. The clatter of the metal against the floor made her gasp and meet the Doctor's wide, blue gaze with her jade one and he nodded, "You're on the TARDIS, Liv."

She panted form her exertion before nodding and he nodded again before dragging her toward the console to operate it.

"Now, let's go get our brave boys of Sherwood Forest, yes?!"

Back on the Cybership...

Robin fired at the Cybermen at the barricaded door they'd managed to get half open as Will and John still destroyed the panels of the console. One of the arrows lodged in a Cyberman's eye, making it stumble back, only to have another take its place, trying to shove the barricade away.

"Self-destruct activated," a Cyberman's voice came from overhead, making the three of them freeze. "Self-destruct in thirty seconds."

"Lovely!" Will snapped, throwing his hands in the air. "How do we get out in time with that lot at the only exit we've got?!"

"We don't," Robin replied, glancing between Will and John before they all looked to the clock counting down from thirty seconds on a panel with long faces. He placed a hand on each of their shoulders, murmuring, "Lads…it's been a pleasure."

The sound of whirring suddenly filled the room and a gust of wind blew around them, making the three men whirl around just in time to see the TARDIS materialize in front of the door where the Cybermen were clambering to get in. The door opened and Olivia leaned out to grin at them as they grinned back at her.

"We don't have all day!" she grinned, waving them toward her. "Get in!"

The three ran toward her and she stepped out of the way to let them rush in, shutting the door behind them just before the TARDIS lurched on take off.

"Whoa! Hang on, chaps!" the Doctor called as they all grabbed a hold of the console to stay on their feet, and Olivia ran around it to help him fly. The TARDIS trembled, accompanied by a loud booming sound from outside, then thrashed, making them all stumble around the console as the Doctor stared at the scanner. "That'll be your mother ship blowing up, then!"

Olivia looked up at him with a frown before making her way toward him to see what he was looking at on the scanner. The image of a Cyberman on the screen made her gasp before the Doctor spoke again.

"And you don't wanna know what I can do to your ship! Take your soldiers and leave the Earth alone! It! Is! Protected!"

The screen went dark, making her look to him in worry as he only flipped a few switches on the console before an image of the surrounding area came on the screen, nine little dots heading away from them, and the Earth.

"We did it!" Olivia grinned, throwing her arms around his neck as he laughed in triumph, hugging her close with one arm.

"Hang on!" he called, slamming a lever down and the TARDIS shuddered to a halt before he threw his other arm around her and lifted her up to twirl her around. She giggled as he did. He set her down and Will approached as they pulled away, lifting her Sonic in one hand, a smirk over his lips.

"This was very helpful," he told her when she turned to face him, taking her Sonic from him with a smile. "Much obliged, lass."

"Thanks," Olivia grinned, giggling when he gave her a wink and the Doctor rolled his eyes at his star-struck wife.

"Alright," he called, tugging on her hand as he rounded the console opposite Will's position and made for the door. "We've landed close by to the camp. I think Marian and Tuck are waiting for us."

They all filed out of the TARDIS and into a clearing where Marian and Friar Tuck waited. Marian ran toward Robin to throw her arms around him and plant a kiss to his lips as Tuck handed water to John and Will who dropped to the ground on his back with a heavy sigh.

"Good lord in heaven, I am exhausted!" he announced, making John chuckle as he sat next to him, Robin and Marian approaching the Doctor and Olivia as they leaned back on the TARDIS doorframe.

"Did you ever find out why they were here?" Robin asked as the Doctor slung his arm over Olivia's neck while she tucked her Sonic Screwdriver away.

"According to the computer on the Dalek ship, it was on its way elsewhere when it malfunctioned," the Doctor explained. "Same with the Cybership. Unlucky coincidence."

Olivia frowned slightly, hearing something in his tone that said he was holding something back, but said nothing. The Doctor held a hand out to Robin who grasped it firmly, shaking his hand.

"Thanks for the help," the Doctor nodded.

"It is us who should be thanking you, Doctor," Marian corrected, shaking his hand as well and Olivia went in to hug the two of them. "Had you not arrived, nothing would have changed, and no doubt, things would have gotten much, much worse."

"Well, that's me…here to help," the Doctor shrugged with a small smirk before looking to Olivia as she stepped next to him again, adding, "We should get going now, though. Ready to head home, darling?"

"Going?!" Will called, scrambling to his feet, John following, though standing slower than Will had. "Can't you stay a while longer? We'll certainly have a celebration for this victory, won't we Robin?"

"They would certainly be the guests of honor," Marian added as Will agreed with several nods and an excited hop.

"No doubt the good Doctor has more pressing matters to tend to," Robin guessed, but seemed to smirk when he noticed Olivia's eye light up as she looked to the Doctor.

He frowned at Robin before looking to Olivia who continued to stare at him, hopefully, making him look back to Loxley, and drawl, "Uh…'scuse us…for a moment."

He took Olivia's hand and pulled her back inside the TARDIS, shutting it and leaning back on the door as Olivia ran in place in front of him in excitement, her hands clasped in front of her, under her chin and grinning, "Oh, Doctor, please can we stay?!"

"Liv, what about our Valentine's Day?" he wondered, taking her hands in his to fiddle with her fingers, absentmindedly with a small pout. "I had a place set up for a romantic getaway of sorts."

"We can head there after," she promised, stepping closer to him as their gazes remained locked, her hands still in his. "Theta, you have a time machine, remember?"

"Yes, dear, I recall," he retorted through a smirk before pouting, "I just…hoped we could get some time alone together. It being Valentine's and all. And I'm not too keen on the way Will Scarlet looks at you."

"Oh, is that what this is really about?" she laughed, softly. "You're jealous?"

"Possibly," he muttered, looking at their joined hands pressed to his chest.

"Not fun, is it?" she smirked, looking to their hands as well. "Seeing the one you love get flirted with constantly."

"Yes, yes, point made," he grumbled, making her giggle before he turned his gaze to hers, making her frown in wonder but she smiled when he lifted their hands to kiss her fingers, murmuring, "Are you alright, Liv?"

"I think so," she nodded. "I don't feel as uneasy as I did after the Asylum."

"Well, no wonder, when you beat the thing to death," he chuckled, making her scoff and nod in agreement.

"Yeah," she hummed then frowned in thought. "I don't know what made me do it. I think…I was so sick of being afraid of them and I was so angry that I was so afraid of them…I just didn't fight my rage anymore."

"However it came about, well done, darling," he smiled, making her grin up at him. "But I'm still watching for nightmares with you."

She rolled her eyes before pushing herself onto her tiptoes to press her lips to his in a quick tender kiss, then pulled back to slip her hands from his grasp and ruffle his hair. He laughed as she did before her arms rested on his shoulders, her fingers still threading through his dark curls.

"What aren't you telling Robin about the reason the Daleks and Cybermen showed up?" she murmured, making his smile fall with a sigh as he slipped his arms around her waist to pull her closer.

"I'm not completely sure this was a coincidence," he replied, making her frown up at him. "I'd wanted to run some calculations I collected from the Dalek ship, but you want to have a party with Robin and his Merry Men."

"I am not turning down Robin Hood," she retorted, making him sigh in defeat and bow his head before lifting it back up as she giggled. "But I'll understand if you stay in here while I have a dance around the fire…with Will."

"Oh, you'll be dancing with me, Mrs. Sigma," he shot back as he lifted a hand to stroke her cheek, affectionately. "No one else dances with my girl."

"Of course, Mr. Sigma," she smirked with a wink.

"Alright," he groaned, falsely, rolling his eyes before taking her hand again to lead her out the door as she grinned. The group waiting for them looked up expectantly before the Doctor shrugged, "Suppose we'll stay. We are the guests of honor, after all."

Olivia squeaked before throwing her arms around his neck to hug him close and Will grinned excitedly as Marian stepped toward Olivia when she released the Doctor.

"Brilliant!" Robin grinned before waving them to follow them, Marian hugging Olivia quickly before hurrying to follow Robin when he turned to lead them back to camp. Olivia grabbed the Doctor's hand to pull him along with her, making him laugh as he quickly caught up with her pace. She grinned up at him, making him smile back down at her.

"Happy, wife?" he hoped, genuinely.

"Very happy, husband," she grinned, leaning her head on his arm as they followed the group back to camp. She chewed on her lower lip in thought before chancing to ask, "So, what are these calculations you wanted to look over?"

"Oh, nothing for you to worry about, my love," he smiled, leaning over to press a kiss to her head, but she narrowed her eyes at him, making him frown in wonder before blurting, "What?"

"You have that smile," she replied, still eyeing him suspiciously, even as his frown deepened in confusion.

"What smile?"

"That smile you put on when you don't want me to know something that's gonna worry me."

The Doctor sighed, glancing to the group ahead of them as they still walked through the forest before leaning close to her ear to whisper, "I promise, darling, I'll tell you when we get back to the TARDIS. Just enjoy yourself tonight, yes?"

She rolled her eyes but nodded, unable to help her smile when he pressed several quick kisses to her cheek. She leaned into him as his arm slid around her waist when they entered the camp, putting everything out of her mind to do as he suggested, and she hoped he would have fun as well.
