Disclaimer: I wish I could say I owned Harry Potter, but the truth is I don't.
Pandora came out of the lab one afternoon feeling quite discouraged. Her Nargle Detection Charm wasn't yielding the results she was hoping for, and she was no closer to perfecting it than she had been several days ago.
"Hello? Pandora?" a voice called from the fireplace. Pandora turned around to see Molly Weasley's head resting in the fireplace.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Here's my concern: My daughter Ginny is apparently having a bit of trouble getting along with her brothers; Bill and Charlie are at Hogwarts and Ginny's remaining brothers have done nothing but tease her and leave her out of their games. I thought it might be nice if she had another girl to play with, and since your daughter is about her age, I thought we could arrange a play date at your house."
"A play date? That sounds like a good idea," said Pandora. "Luna hasn't interacted much with other girls either. This will be a great experience for her."
"So when would be a good time for you?" Molly asked.
"How about tomorrow morning?"
"Tomorrow morning it is, then."
Pandora found Xenophilius a few minutes later looking over some potential Quibbler articles his writers had sent him. "Xeno," she asked, "what do you think of Luna having a play date with Ginny Weasley tomorrow?"
Xeno frowned. "She has Cedric to play with, doesn't she?"
"Yes, but I think it's high time she had another girl to play with, don't you?"
"I suppose."
"Well, I just talked with Molly Weasley and we agreed the girls would have their first play date here tomorrow."
"All right then," Xeno said before turning back to the articles.
Pandora then went up to Luna's room, where the toddler was spinning in small circles and humming to herself while Newt was quietly nibbling on his catnip mouse. "Hi, Mummy," she said while continuing to spin.
"Hi, Luna," Pandora replied; Luna lost her balance and toppled over on her back, then sat up to look at her mother. "Listen, how would you like a play date with another girl your age? Say, Ginny Weasley?"
"Really?" Luna asked happily.
"Yes. She'll be coming here tomorrow. I know you two will have so much fun together."
"Okay!" The little girl went back to spinning as her mother exited the room.
Molly arrived right on schedule the following morning, holding Ginny's hand.
"Good morning, Molly," said Pandora before leaning down to Ginny's level. "Good morning, Ginny. I'm glad you could make it. Luna!" she called. "Ginny's here!"
Luna raced to the front door. "Hello!" she said brightly.
"Hi," Ginny replied.
"Have a good time, dear," Molly said; as she left, Luna immediately grabbed Ginny's hand and led her to her room, where she gestured toward her cat. "This is Newt," she introduced. Recognizing Ginny as the girl who had roughly grabbed him not long ago, Newt scurried under the bed, mewing fearfully.
"Don't be scared, kitty," Luna said softly. "Ginny's a friend." The redhead reached out a hand and petted Newt, who slowly began to calm down.
"Want to play tea party?" asked Luna, getting out her tea set.
"Yeah!" said Ginny enthusiastically. Within minutes the two girls were seated around a little table along with Luna's stuffed animals.
"Would you like some tea, Twinkles?" asked Luna, pretending to pour tea into the stuffed unicorn's cup.
"This eagle wants some tea too," Ginny said, pointing to Sunny.
Once everyone's "tea" had been poured, Luna asked, "One lump of sugar or two, Ginny?"
"Two, pwease."
Pandora came into the room a few minutes later. "How would you girls like some biscuits and milk?"
"Biscuits! Yeah!" cheered Ginny as they followed Pandora into the kitchen.
"Whatcha dwawing, Wuna?" Ginny asked.
"It's a Blibbering Humdinger," Luna replied.
"What's a Bibble - a Bubber - that thing?" asked Ginny, who apparently had difficulty pronouncing the name of the creature.
"A Blibbering Humdinger," Luna repeated. "They're like unicorns "cept they make everything around them shiny."
"Ooooh," said Ginny in awe. She then pointed to her own picture. "I dwawed me fwying a bwoom."
The two girls had just finished drawing and were about to play with Luna's animal figurines when Pandora called them into the kitchen; Molly had just come to take Ginny home. "Mummy, can't I stay a wittle wonger?" begged Ginny.
"No, Ginny, we need to get back home," Molly told her. "It's almost suppertime."
"Pwease!"
"Hmmm...I don't see why she can't stay a few minutes longer," said Pandora.
"Oh, all right then," said Molly. "But only a few minutes longer, understand, Ginny?" The little girl nodded, and she and Luna happily ran upstairs to play.
