One day about two weeks after Luna's fourth birthday, Pandora was about to start baking her famous Dirigible Plum biscuits when her daughter joined her in the kitchen. "Mummy, may I help make biscuits too?" she asked.
"Of course you may, sweetheart," Pandora said, putting a little stool next to the counter so Luna could reach. She then got out all the ingredients they'd need. "I'll make the dough while you measure out the sugar. We're going to be making a lot of biscuits so we'll need 2 cups of sugar."
Luna obediently measured out the sugar (accidentally spilling some of it on the floor in the process) and handed the measuring cup to her mother.
"Thank you, Luna," she said as she mixed the sugar into the dough. "Now hand me that bowl of Dirigible Plums." After Pandora had mashed the radish-like plants into the mixture, she had Luna shape it into balls. The little girl went off to play with Newt while her mother put the biscuits into the oven.
When at last the biscuits were done, Pandora asked, "Would you like to come with me to deliver a batch of these to the Diggorys?" Luna nodded. As it was a rainy day, Pandora had cast an Impervius Charm on the box of biscuits to ensure it didn't get wet, and as the two of them made the journey to the Diggorys' house, Luna happily skipped ahead of her mother, giggling and catching raindrops in her mouth as well as stomping in every puddle she could find.
Once they had reached the house, Pandora knocked on the door, and they could hear Cedric's voice calling, "I've got it, Mum!" The door opened, and the seven-year-old boy grinned when he saw the two Lovegoods.
"Hello, Cedric," said Pandora. "We've come to bring your family some Dirigible Plum biscuits." They followed him into the house; Ophelia was waiting for them in the sitting room. "Thanks so much, Pandora," she said, taking the box. She took a biscuit, bit into it and said with a smile, "Delicious as usual, Pandora."
"I helped!" said Luna proudly.
"Hey, Mum, can Luna stay a while?" asked Cedric. "I want her to help me reenact this Quidditch match Dad and I listened to last weekend."
"I suppose, if that's okay with her mother." Pandora nodded, and the two children rushed to the playroom.
"Right; I'll be Pride of Portree and you be the Ballycastle Bats," the little boy told Luna.
"Can I commentate this time?" the four-year-old asked.
"All right," Cedric replied, and after he gave her a quick rundown of the players' names, the match began:
"Caldwell of the Bats has the Quaffle," Luna announced, "and he's going to score - oh no, Reeder saved it...are those Nargles flying around her head?"
"Luna, pay attention!" Cedric hissed. "You're supposed to be commentating the match, not talking about Nargles!"
"Sorry. Oh look, Warren just got hit by a Bludger from - "
"That Chaser's name is Whited, not Warren!"
"Whited got hit by a Bludger from Oliver of the Bats. I wonder if a Wrackspurt got him..."
"Focus, Luna!"
"And Norwood's seen the Snitch! But Delaney's flying the other way! I think a Wrackspurt's got him too! There must be lots of them! The other players should be careful or else - "
Cedric face palmed and shook his head. She'll never make a good commentator if she keeps getting distracted like that, he thought.
"Luna! Time to go," Pandora called a minute later, and the little girl waved goodbye to Cedric as she followed her mother out.
"Luna, come back here!" Pandora shouted as the four-year-old ran through the house squealing and laughing hysterically. "It's past your bedtime!" This had been going on for the last half hour or so, and the witch was exhausted.
"Come on, sweetie," she panted as Luna ran past her. "Let Mummy get you into bed."
"Don't want to," replied Luna, bouncing up and down on the sofa. "I'm wide awake."
"Ugh!" groaned Pandora. "Xeno, how many biscuits did you give her?!"
"Well, I gave her two," Xenophilius answered, "But she started begging for more and I didn't see any harm in - "
"Honestly!" his wife said furiously. "I'm in the lab for one hour! One hour! I give you one simple task: don't give Luna too many biscuits! ESPECIALLY right before bedtime! And what do you do? Give in to her just because she asked for more than her fair share! And now look what's happened!"
"Dora, I'm sorry! I don't know what I was thinking, really! But you've got some Sleeping Draught in your potions cupboard; why don't you give a bit of that to Luna?"
"Of course! Why didn't I think of it sooner?" Pandora then called, "Luna, come here, please! I have some potion here that'll help you get to sleep."
But the little girl ran off once again. "You have to catch me first!"
Pandora sighed. This was going to be a long night.
Finally, finally, Pandora had managed to give Luna her Sleeping Draught and get her into bed. Once she and Xeno were settled in their own bedroom, Pandora decided this would be a good time to have a serious talk with her husband.
"Listen, Xeno," she said sternly. "I love you to pieces, and I greatly admire your open-mindedness and your devotion to your beliefs. But one of these days your carelessness is going to get at least one of us killed if you don't get it under control."
"What about your experiments?" Xeno countered. "They're not exactly safe wither. One of them could even get you killed one day."
"That's beside the point!" snapped Pandora. "So far you've let our daughter wander off into the woods by herself and neglected to feed her cat, prompting him to run away looking for food! And need I remind you that if it hadn't been for the Weasleys they'd likely be hopelessly lost or dead by now! Not to mention you allowed Luna to consume enough sugar to make her hyper and keep her up past her bedtime! One would think you don't care about this family!"
"I do care!" Xeno protested, voice cracking. "I just get distracted easily, that's all! I don't want to lose Luna any more than you do." Tears welled in his eyes as he said this.
Pandora gave him a hug. "I know you do. Just promise me you'll be more careful about raising our daughter."
"I promise," her husband said, kissing her on the cheek before the two of them fell asleep in each other's arms.
