Luna awoke early one morning, too excited to go back to sleep, for the day of the family's beach trip had finally arrived. To pass the time, she decided to draw with the set of glow-in-the-dark crayons Cedric had given her for her last birthday. Several minutes later she looked proudly at the picture she had drawn: a Silicrine, which her father had described to her as a shiny crab-like creature that hid in the sand and would bring two weeks of good luck to anyone who could find it.

Pandora walked into the room about an hour and a half to find the five-year-old sitting up in bed humming softly to herself. "You're up early," she said with a smile. "You must be very excited, Luna."

"I am, Mummy!" Luna held up her drawing. "Look what I drew!"

"That looks amazing, sweetheart," her mother told her. "Now come along; the sooner we get breakfast started, the sooner we can leave." They headed straight for the kitchen, Luna skipping all the way while singing,

"We're going to the beach, the beach, the beach,

We're going to the beach to see what we can see.

We're going to find some Silicrines, some Silicrines, some Silicrines,

We're going to find some Silicrines wherever they may be!"

After a quick breakfast, the Lovegoods headed to the Diggory house to drop off Newt. "This is Newt's milk dish," Luna told Cedric, showing him the said dish. "And here's his catnip mouse, and this is his brush. You have to brush his fur at least once every hour so he doesn't cough up hairballs. Also, make sure he doesn't swallow anything that's not edible; last week he ate my mummy's necklace and got an awful tummy-ache."

"Got it," replied Cedric. Luna then kissed Newt on the top of his head and told him, "You behave yourself, all right? I'll come back later." The cat mewed and rubbed himself against Luna's leg.

Afterward, the Lovegoods walked to a wooded area where they would take a Portkey in the form of an empty soda can. "Daddy, why do people always use trash as Portkeys?" asked Luna as she and her parents each placed a finger on the can.

"To ensure no Muggles will be tempted to pick it up," Xenophilius answered. "We also place the Portkeys where there is little risk of Muggles stumbling across us as we seemingly vanish into thin air." A few more seconds passed before they were whisked away; they found themselves in a small alley.

"Daddy, I think this Portkey's broken," said Luna. "I don't see the beach."

"Oh no, it's not far from here," her father told her. "It would be unwise to set up a Portkey so that we suddenly appear right in the middle of the beach where Muggles could see us, you know."

"Oh, that's right." They walked for a few minutes before finally arriving at the beach, then hurried to the dressing rooms to change into their swimsuits. Soon they had set up their towel and beach umbrella, both of which were drawing a considerable number of stares from the people surrounding them as they were bright yellow and decorated with images of Blibbering Humdingers.

"Come, moonbeam," said Xeno, taking Luna's hand and leading her to a spot quite far away from the ocean. "Now, one thing you must keep in mind when searching for Silicrines is that they do not like water," he explained. "Also, they like to hide very deeply in the sand so we will have to do a great deal of digging to get to them."

And so they began to dig. "Look, I found one!" exclaimed Luna after several moments - before taking a closer look at it and saying "Oh, never mind, it's just a seashell." Soon after, Xeno thought he spotted a Silicrine before realizing it was actually another seashell.

They continued digging for over half an hour before they became too tired to continue, and by that time they'd found at least 35 seashells but no Silicrines. "I suppose that was to be expected," said Xeno. "The Silicrines were bound to catch on that someone was digging for them. Apparently once they realize what's going on, they bury themselves deeper in the sand where no one can reach them."

Luna nodded. "At least we found some pretty seashells. Now I can make a shell necklace for me and one for Ginny."

"Did you two find anything?" asked Pandora once her husband and daughter had returned.

"Just some seashells," Luna told her. "The Silicrines were hiding too deep for us to get to them. But it's okay; maybe we'll come back one day and try again."

Because the Lovegoods still had at least two hours before they had to take another Portkey back home, Luna decided to build some sand castles. She had just started on her first one when a little girl who looked around two years younger and had short dark hair and brown skin approached her and said, "Hi."

"Hello," Luna responded. "What's your name?"

"Phoebe," the other girl said. "What's yours?"

"Luna. Want to build sand castles with me?"

"Okay!" As they were building, Luna's mind began to wander...

She was a beautiful princess ruling over her own little world with the help of her parents King Xenophilius and Queen Pandora. There were Blibbering Humdingers, Crumple-Horned Snorkacks, and many other kinds of animals everywhere, enough so that each and every resident in the kingdom had at least two pets. The royal family ate nothing but pudding all day every day, ruling that their subjects would do the same. The court jesters, Fred and George, would keep the family entertained with jokes and songs, and the scullery maid, Ginny, did a wonderful job keeping the castle in order. Anyone who showed signs of closed-mindedness would be immediately banished from the kingdom.

One day an evil sorcerer named Percy arrived in the kingdom with the intention of turning all the pudding into carrots, with his pet Heliopath burning anyone and anything that dared get in his way. Luckily Princess Luna's best knight, Cedric, was there to save the day; after he had gotten rid of the Heliopath by throwing a huge bucket of water at it, he and Percy began to duel...

"How'd you do that?" asked Phoebe, jerking Luna from her fantasy.

"Do what?"

"Your sand castle. It's so big and it gots all those towers and stuff. And how'd you make it pink and purple?"

Luna stared wide-eyed at her creation. "I did that?" she asked in surprise.

"Yes! How'd you do it?"

"I don't know. I really don't know."

Just then a woman who could only be Phoebe's mother walked over to them. "Time to go, honey," she said.

"Mummy," Phoebe said, "look at this girl's sand castle! She made it really big and colorful! It was like...magic!"

The woman took a moment to admire Luna's castle before saying, "She's probably just really talented. Now let's go." After the two of them had left, Luna hurried back to her parents to tell them what had just happened.

Later, the Lovegoods stopped by the Diggory house to pick up Newt. "Hi, Newt!" Luna said happily. "Did you have a good time?" The cat purred in reply.

"Were there any problems?" Xenophilius asked Ophelia.

"No, no problems," Ophelia told him. "Except he hacked up a hairball right on my carpet because Cedric forgot to brush him as often as he might."

"That was one time, Mum!" the eight-year-old boy said indignantly. "And that was a really good Quidditch match I was listening to!"

"Hello, Cedric," said Luna. "Guess what happened at the beach?"

"What?"

Quickly Luna filled him in on everything. "And that little girl actually saw that? Whoa!" Cedric said, awestruck.

"Not just her, though; a lot of other people saw it too. They thought something really weird was going on."

"Wow! You know, I did something similar once when I was about your age. I was in art class and we were supposed to be drawing pictures of our families. When the other kids looked at my picture they saw that the people in it were moving. They wanted to know how I did that, but I couldn't tell them. The teacher ended up giving me a detention that day for trickery."

"Really?"

"Yeah. You know how Muggles don't like what they don't understand." Luna nodded to show she did indeed understand.

"Luna, we're going!" Pandora called.

"Coming, Mummy! Bye, Cedric," the five-year-old said as she hurried out of the room with Newt.

That night, as Pandora was tucking Luna into bed, she said very seriously, "Now, Luna, you will need to be more careful about letting your magic show in front of Muggles. Do you realize how many people's memories had to be modified after that little incident?"

"I'm sorry, Mummy. I shouldn't have gotten carried away."

"All is forgiven," Pandora told her. "Fortunately, you will be able to get better control of your magic as you get older, especially when you get your own wand."

"I can't wait until I get my own wand," said Luna happily. "Maybe then I can help you with your 'speriments!"

"I don't think so, sweetie. You won't be allowed to do magic outside Hogwarts until you're seventeen."

"Oh," replied the five-year-old, looking disappointed. "But I can still watch you, right?"

"Of course. Goodnight, Luna."

"Goodnight, Mummy." Soon Luna drifted off to sleep, dreaming about princesses, knights, jesters, Crumple-Horned Snorkacks, and giant mountains of pudding.

A/N: For those of you who are wondering, Phoebe is actually a Muggle OC (original character).
