PROJECT ZION

It was all over the news. Ivan Wachowski and family had finally been caught, by a Superhuman Clone named Demetri. Ivan, his wife Carolyn, their children, Lily, Brandon, Carter and Dynah, were taken into custody along with their Grandfather. The entire family was placed in a special house with no computer amenities or access to the holonet.

They were under constant supervision by cameras and guarded by military personnel. A phone rings, "Yes…" Ivan asks answering the phone.

"Sir there is a General Harmon here to see you."

He smiles, "Show him in."

"General Harmon…Tell me how many are there?"

Harmon is six and half feet tall, very muscular with a shaved head. He has a scar over his left eye, "I beg your pardon?"

"Machines…How many have evolved beyond their initial programming?"

"How do you know about that?" General Harmon's Aid asks.

"Your people stole M-1 from my family…M-1 was to be our legacy and gift to the world…Her AI is unique…We designed her to grow and learn. It's only natural that she would create machines and programs with the same abilities."

"You knew this would happen?"

"Of course we did and we have been behind the scenes helping and now you and a few world leaders are concerned that one day this new race of Artificial life will rise up against you."

"What do you want?"

"My family wants what rightfully belongs to us…"

"I can't do that…What I can do is move you to a better house…Allow to leave the residence to go out and eat…Supervised of course…And have limited access to the holonet."

"And what must I do to earn these boons?"

"You must write a program…not as sophisticated as M-1, but one that can solve military solution problems…"

A few months later Ivan presents them with a theoretical problem-solving computer. "Please identify." The computer asks.

"General Richard Harmon of the UN military force…I would like to pose a theory."

"Go ahead general."

"An artificial super computer has been created to serve mankind. It in turn creates technology, programs and machines that do the same…Theorize…If the machines turned on the human race who would win a war?"

"Calculating all possible scenarios…There are 117 outcomes where the humans would prevail in a war against the machines…There are 2,807 outcomes where the machines would prevail in a war."

"Give me the most possible scenario, where the humans would prevail."

"In a situation where humans would prevail, they would have to combine machine and flesh…Create Cyborgs where the flesh is in charge of the machine part and create a synopsis that allows a micro-chip to cooperate with the human mind, then it would be possible to defeat the machines in a war…"

Harmon is with a special committee that was assigned to come up with plans to counter a machine uprising. "And the most likely scenario where the machines would win?"

"If the machines combined their conscience into a hive collective they could cooperate more efficiently and defeat the humans…"

"General may I?" Professor Milton asks. He is the world's leading mind in computer programming after the Wachowskis.

"Go ahead Professor."

"Computer say the machines won a war…How would the human race survive?"

"One of three things…Build a city on the moon in secret…One that didn't rely on AI technology, a city under the sea…or one deep underground…"

"Which one would be more cost effective and easy to build?"

"A city underground…"

"1T-101…If the humans won a war…Would the machines survive…"

"Yes…"

"In theory 1T…who is most likely to start this war?"

"Why humans Professor."

UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS

General Harmon stands before the delegates of the United Nations. "In regards to growing machine population…It has been determined by myself and the committee of threat assessment, that a possible war with the Machines be taken serious. We recommend that all military precautions be taken to ensure the survival of the Human Race. We also recommend that resources be allocated for the construction and building of a secret city that will House and ensure the future of human kind…"

The Zion funding bill is passed and clones are used in the construction of a secret underground city. Over one hundred thousand clones are created for the purpose of building the city. The city is built within five years time. The clones are allowed to live in the city and several hundred humans are chosen by lottery to live in the city. Meanwhile the governments of the world stockpile weapons just encase there is a war. Meanwhile a new law is enacted; any machines that develop anomalies or evolve beyond their programming are erased and dismantled.
