A/N: I would like to thank SWWoman once again for her beta skills and for her guidance through this process. This piece is a labor of love and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. We decided to rate this story an M for some lite smut but don't get your hopes up it's not that much. But if your patient...hmmm who knows what might happen next?

Breaking Point

Joss nearly jumped out of her skin when John came bursting through the law office break room door. Then her eyes grew wide and she gasped when she saw his face. He was scratched and bloody with his clothes torn in places.

"John, what happened to you? Why are you bloody? Why...?" she exclaimed.

"Joss, I don't have time to explain right now. But we have to leave. We have to get away from here; NOW!" He was breathing heavy as if he had run all the way there. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes trying to compose himself. He wasn't concerned about himself he was more concerned about her. He opened his eyes and saw the worry and confusion on her face. He had to make her understand.

"Listen. I've been made. My cover's been blown. Somehow they figured out who I was and who I work for." He took another deep breath and looked in her eyes, "I think someone told them; someone from the agency. Someone who knows about us."

"But who...?" she began then stopped her eyes going wide. "No" she breathed in a hoarse whisper." She wouldn't." He nodded his head in confirmation.

"Yes. Kara"

Grabbing her by the hand, John dragged Joss behind him out of the break room. He didn't know where they were going to go. He didn't know where they would be safe. He just knew one thing...he couldn't lose Joss….

Three weeks later….

Joss threw herself on the king size bed in frustration. The room wasn't that bad. In fact it was rather nice for two people on the run for their lives. After John had burst into her office break room and practically dragged her out, they stopped by her place to grab a few things. He told her to pack only what was necessary they would buy whatever else they needed later. She had packed lite and then called her mother to make arrangements for Taylor.

That had been an uncomfortable conversation. She had had to convince her mother that her sudden departure was work related and that she couldn't give her details because it was highly sensitive information and she wasn't sure how long it would take. Her mother was not a stupid woman. She accepted Joss's explanation but she wasn't buying it one bit. Something was going on with her baby girl but she trusted Joss to handle it, so she agreed to take care of Taylor while Joss was away and Joss promised to call as soon as she could.

That had been three weeks ago. She had called her mother as promised to let her know she was settled and OK. She had called twice more since. She didn't want to call too often in case they tried to track her through her phone.

John really hadn't told her much more than he had in the break room. He did explain why Kara may have blown his cover though. Joss frowned slightly making a crinkle between her eyebrows as she remembered him telling her rather sheepishly that he and Kara had been lovers at one time. It wasn't that she had a problem with John having other women before her, she didn't know him then, what was it to her? It was just that Kara was so vile. He explained it and she understood, two people thrown together, depending on each other for their lives, these things happened. At least that's how he viewed it. Apparently Kara felt differently. She outed him out of jealousy and spite.

Joss was pulled from her thoughts as she heard someone at the door. Sitting up she slowly reached for the gun on the nightstand keeping her eyes on the door. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw it was John.

A smile lit up his beautiful face as he set the groceries on the table just inside the door.

"Please don't shoot," he said in his soft sexy voice that always sent chills down her spine.

He walked towards her where she sat on the edge of the bed. She had to tilt her head back to look up at him.

"And what do I get if I don't shoot you?" She asked teasingly as she replaced the gun on the nightstand.

He bent down and kissed the soft spot behind her ear and whispered "Well, really good girls get a kiss."

"Oh really " Joss sighed softly.

Then John kissed her sweetly, tenderly. It took her breath away. But as his lips moved on hers the kiss became more passionate. He slowly pushed her onto the bed as she crawled backwards to the center and he laid on top of her. Once he finally pulled away with a small smile on his lips, she found herself lost in his enchantingly bluish-gray eyes. They really should come with a warning label, she thought with a delighted sigh. With his hands cupping her face his lips took hers again and with a sweep of his tongue he was granted entrance into the sweet depths of her mouth. She moaned softly as she ran her fingers through his soft salt and pepper hair pulling his head towards her to deepen the kiss.

John was always lost when he kissed Joss. The moment his lips touched hers all thought left him and he was consumed with her. He felt her fingers in his hair and electricity shot through his body. He moved his hands from her face to roam over the luscious terrain of her delectable body. His tongue dueled with hers as they each fought for control of the kiss. When she gasped as he moved his large hand to cup one of her full breasts, rubbing his thumb over the already hard nipple he could feel through her blouse, he took control. They were quickly losing themselves in each other. With every kiss and every caress they sank deeper into the ocean of desire that would soon overtake them.

Regretfully the real world intruded as John remembered why he had gone out in the first place. Pulling out of the kiss he placed his forehead against hers, both of them breathing heavily with the strength of their desire.

"We need to talk before this goes any further," he said when he had gained some control over himself, although one part of his body refused to be controlled.

"Did you find anything?" she asked quietly trying to gather her thoughts, which was difficult when she could still feel the evidence of his desire pressing against her.

"Not much but…" he began but trailed off with a sigh as he sat up and ran his hand through his soft short hair.

"'Not much but' what?" she asked worried at the vague reply and nervous gestures. She sat up crossed legged in the middle of the bed suddenly alert, waiting for him to explain.

He turned and looked into her troubled face with the ever present crinkle between her eyebrows when she was worried. He sighed heavily again.

"They're digging into your background," he began looking directly into her deep, dark brown eyes, "it's only a matter of time before they find out about Taylor, if they haven't already, and your mother." Rising he stood to his feet slowly. "These people don't play, Joss" he said quietly, but forcefully, "they will use anything and anyone to get what they want and what they want right now is me….and you're with me so by extension anyone connected to you is in danger." John watched as the panic began to rise in her beautiful eyes and it made him angry. Angry at himself and the situation he had put her in just by being in her life. Well, that's one thing he could rectify….and now.

With a voice rough with emotion he said, "I want you to pack your things and leave as soon as possible. Take Taylor and your mother and go somewhere for a while; just a couple of weeks. I'll make sure they know you're not with me anymore. Then you can come back home and go on with your life without having to worry." He felt the backs of eyes prick with tears but he refused to allow them to form. He continued to stare at Joss but her expression was unreadable although the panic that was in her eyes was replaced with disbelief.

Joss couldn't believe what she was hearing. Did he honestly think she was going to leave him to fight this fight alone? Especially when it was her meddling that caused Kara to blow his cover to begin with. He may think it was because of jealousy - and part of it was - but there was more to the story. Kara's retaliation against John was aimed to hurt Joss because Kara knew how much she cared for, aww who was she kidding, how much she loved John. And Joss was holding a secret from John and she had no idea how to tell him without fear of losing him. That would have to wait for another day though. Right now she had to convince him that she needed to stay with him not run away.

Climbing from the bed Joss stood in front of John barely reaching his chest. She had to bend her head back to look up at him. Taking a deep breath she looked him directly in the eye and said,

"Bull shit." John looked at her in complete surprise and opened his mouth to speak but Joss interrupted him,

"No. Listen, John, and listen good. When you burst into my office breakroom and dragged me out saying WE needed to go into hiding I didn't question your decision one bit. I have followed your directions for the past three weeks without complaint or argument. But if you think I'm going to just leave you here to fight these people on your own…. you're crazy." Placing her hands on his chest and running them up over his shoulders, she fingered the hair at the nape of his neck. "We're in this together, baby. No ifs, ands, or buts." Then she pulled his head down and took his mouth in a searing kiss that had him forgetting why she should leave at all.
