Hazel's POV:

"Sammy, I need you to just go. It'll be easier for both of us this way. We both know how this is going to turn out, so it's better if you just forget me and live your life without me." I was holding back the tears as she said this, and I knew that Sammy knew it too.

After a long silence, Sammy spoke; "I understand why you want it to be this way, but understand this. I will never forget you. I will always be yours, and nothing will ever change that. I know you think that it's a long shot for you to come home, but there is always a chance. I believe in you. I believe that if you work hard, you can come home. You and I both know that people that come back from that place are different. When you come home you're going to be different. I know it. You will always be my Hazel"

"Oh, Sammy," I said, burying my face in his shoulder. "I promise, I will do what ever it takes to come home." Even as I said that, my heart broke. I was never going to see him again.

"Goodbye," I whispered, pulling away and walking out the door.

The train platform was empty other than a blond boy waiting by the train. He walked up to me and offered his hand to shake.

"Will. Will Solace," He said in a voice that didn't betray any emotion.

"Hazel Levesque," I replied. I wondered where our mentor was, because there wasn't anyone else on the platform. I looked around in the haze, wondering if the mentor was simply hidden.

"Where's whats-his-name, our mentor? Also, don't they usually film the tributes getting on the train?" I asked.

"Our mentor is already on the train. He told me to wait for you and that he'd see us at dinner. And, I have no idea why there aren't any reporters or anything. Maybe they're mixing it up this year," Will explained.

"Well, we'd better get on the train," I said.

"Right you are," Will said jumping onto the train. He helped me up and led me down a hallway. "My room is on the right, and yours is on the left," he instructed.

"I'll leave you alone for a little while." I'm grateful when he says this. I don't understand how he can be so cheery when we've just left the only home we've ever known.

"Thank you, Will"

"It's the least I could possibly do. We're in this together." He closes the door to his room then, leaving me with my thoughts.

All I want to do is sit on the floor and cry. Everything feels so hopeless. No one can get me out of this mess but me. I'm the only person that's left.

I've never really been one to sit around and wallow though, so I look around the bedroom. I see a dresser full of clothes and a door that leads to a bathroom. I look through the clothes and try to find something that might fit. I'm not as tall as a lot of the other girls in my district, so I figured nothing would really fit. I settle on a pair of cargo pants that appear to be meant as capris for a taller person, but fit well as pants for me. I then find a plain white T-Shirt and a purple plaid flannel to go over it. I feel more like myself now that I look more like myself.

Next, I wander into the bathroom. The shower is huge, and there are dozens of buttons. I turn and look in the mirror. I see gold eyes staring back at me from dark skin framed by caramel colored hair. I sighed and left my room to find some food and get used to this new phase of my life.

A/N: I realized as I was writing this that I won't get to use the connection between Sammy and Leo. My bad. I thought about moving Hazel a generation up, but then I would have to use some mad science to get her into these games. It'll be ok. Maybe they can be cousins or something. (Sammy and Leo) Thanks for reading, and don't forget to review! I always get super excited to write when people review. Thank you!
