Update on August the 21. Lots of mistakes and missing words.
Layla didn't come home that night and didn't answer her phone. Sora looked for Layla everywhere. The Hamilton's mansion, Cathy's, at the Kaleido's, at her office and she called several times but no answers. She really started to get worried and bad thoughts were crossing her mind while opening the door of their flat.
The next morning Sora was in Manami's room with Anna and Mia seeking for counsel.
"Don't let her win. If you surrender you'll be like other submissive women!" Manami couldn't believe Sora was already giving up. She won't let her friend be the weak one in the relationship. "If she can't bear two sexless weeks then she can't be trusted!" The black short-haired girl put her fist loudly on her desk where she was sitting.
"Shut your damn mouth!" Anna seemed above anger. She was sitting on the bed with Mia who had to use all of her strength to prevent her from hitting Manami. "Your last advice wasn't useful and only cause tension!"
Sora looked at her two friends from a multi colored pear pouf placed between the desk and the bed. She didn't know what to think anymore. At first she believed it was a good idea too. And Mia wasn't against it too.
"Well I'm not here to say I told so but...Who am I kidding. I told you so!" Anna couldn't help but remember her friends she was the wise one for once.
Yet Manami still didn't see what was wrong with her idea. "Sora needs power in their relationship or Layla will govern her! It's always like that when one of the two has more money."
"Layla is not like that." Sora protested.
"Really? Then why did you slept alone last night?" Manami asked not waiting for any answer. "Maybe she seeked sex from someone el-"
Manami hadn't time to finish her sentence as Sora get up from chair to slap her. "Sorry but don't ever insult Layla in front of me!" She strangely didn't seem angry but more tired and sighed loudly.
"Ouch!" Manami complained but didn't hit back.
"Swallow your pride and just admit you gave a bad counsel!" Anna said still being hold by Mia in the bed. She wished she was the one to slap her but Sora was more legitimate.
"Girls!"
"It could have worked." Manami replied. "Layla is the pride one. Sora shouldn't -"
"GIRLS!"
"What!" Both girls said turning to Mia with an annoyed face.
Mia just sighed showing the empty pear pouf. "Sora left."
Manami and Anna stared at each other like two hyenas ready to fight for an animal corpse before admitting it wasn't worth it. "Should we go look for her?" Anna suggested.
"No. I think she needs to figure it herself or asks someone else." Mia stated while getting up walking towards the door. Soon followed by Anna.
When they left Manami just shrugged.
Sora was leaving the dorms when Ken saw her. "Sora! The gymnasium is in the other way."
The Japanese girl stopped her course and looked behind her. "I'm sorry Ken but I can't train this morning and maybe today too."
"Is something wrong with your arms? Are you ill?" Asked Ken with a worried tone while approaching her.
"No." She simply said at first. She thought about seeking advice from him but decided otherwise. Ken may had accepted her relationship with Layla and he certainly wasn't as jealous as when he thought she was dating Léon. Nonetheless she understood how cruel it would be to tell him about their couple troubles. She couldn't let him believe he had a slight chance. "I have an emergency. A family one. I'll be back monday. I'll train alone until then." She hoped her lie wasn't too visible on her face.
She was about to go when she felt a hand on her own. Ken was firmly grabbing her hand. An old image surfaced in her mind and she tried to get away from his hold. "Let me go!" But he didn't.
"Tell me the truth first." He said calmly. "I'm not your enemy Sora. I'm your friend and friends don't lie at each other." He then released her hand. "I'm sorry for using force."
Sora touched her hand and reflected on Ken's words. "It's- It's about Layla. I'm not sure I can talk about it. At least not to you."
Ken stared at her intensely and crossed his arms. He wasn't sure either if he had to be honest. "Did she hurt you? I mean physically."
"No!" Sora was upset Ken could think Layla was able of such thing.
"Did she cheated on you?"
"N-no." She hesitated. Not knowing where Layla was didn't put her mind at peace. She trusted her of course. She trusted her but sometimes she wondered…
Ken sighed of relief. "Then I'm sure you two will get through it". He preferred to talk about something else before getting his hopes high. "I just came back from Sarah's room. Let's walk together if you don't mind." He suggested while opening her the way like a gentleman.
"Thanks." Sora answered on the way outside the dorms. "Did you need something from Sarah?"
"Well, Yuri was the one I was looking for. And lately he seemed to pass a lot time here." Ken said while they walk along the beach. "Nevermind. What's important is that I wanted a room to live in the dorms."
"So you're really leaving your parents' house?" Sora asked a little sad. She still thought it was her fault.
Ken simply smiled. "Well you heard Rosetta and May. I'll stay a virgin all my life if I don't. Quite shameful for a guy of my age." He still remembered Jay's laugh when he admitted the truth.
"I don't think so. Being with the one you love is the most important." Sora said a little pensive.
Ken prefered to not go there. "Unfortunately there is no room for me. I'll have to look in the private market."
"I can help you if you want." Sora proposed.
"No you don't have-"
"You said we were friends, didn't you?"
"Yes but-"
"And friends help each other right?"
He looked at her with a defeated face. "Ok. You win."
Sora smiled a little brighter and he thought it was worth it. "Let's start tomorrow!"
"I'd like to but I work until sunday."
"Oh! Of course. Monday then?" Since she didn't have any performance until next show, she only train on weekdays, and forgot Ken and the others were still working on the weekend.
"Monday." He said. He hoped his smile wasn't too wide.
Sora was now in front Kate's appartment. The policeman was her last hope. She knew friday was his day-off to match with Kate schedule at the hospital. She didn't wait too long before the door opened.
"Hi Sora! It's nice to see you outside the hospital. Come in." Kate opened the door widely so Sora could enter.
The appartment was less clean than in her memories Sora thought. Boxes were everywhere. "Hi! I hope I'm not bothering you." She asked while sitting in the sofa.
"Of course not. Do you want some tea or coffee?" The auburn doctor inquired while looking for cups in the classical american kitchen. Fully opened towards the living room.
"No thanks, I can't stay long. Is M. Policeman here?" She didn't want to be rude but she need to know where Layla was immediately.
Kate smiled for herself before sitting in the armchair in front Sora. She put her tea cup on the coffee table between them. "How about you call him Jerry from now?"
Sora smiled back. "I guess it's too weird for you. Then Jerry it'll be."
"Good. He's in his apartment. I'm moving there until our house is build. He's moving the boxes. I didn't stay here since a few months anyway. He should be here soon." Kate explained.
"You're moving out?" Sora couldn't believe her chance. It was perfect for Ken.
"Like I said. Why does that make you so happy?" Inquired a bewildered Kate.
"Well first I'm happy for both of you. Then Ken wanted to moved out so if no one made an offer-"
"The golden boy finally leaving his cocoon? Of course he can take my flat. I'll get him in touch with my owner."
"Thanks. I'll tell him to call you." One mission accomplished Sora thought. Maybe lady luck was finally on her side for today.
Unfortunately it was momentary. As soon as Jerry arrived he informed her that he couldn't use police tools for a personal search.
"But- I'm worried!" Sora tried to justify.
"I know Sora but she's an adult and she didn't disappear. At least not for 48 hours." Jerry really was sorry for Sora but there was nothing he could do. "I can help search her in the town if you want."
Sora couldn't hide her disappointed face. "Thanks but I already look everywhere a person could sea- Ah! that's it!" Sora fisted the palm of her hand a little too enthusiastically. "Ouch!"
"Are you ok?" Asked Kate and Jerry worried.
"Yes. Yes. Don't worry I know how to find her. Sorry for bothering you."
"You're not a both-" Kate didn't finish her phrase as Sora was already out.
"Ah! Ah! She's always energetic." Jerry said putting his arm on Kate's shoulders.
"Yes." Kate hoped Layla and Sora's troubles weren't too big.
"Fool! Fool! Show yourself now!" Sora demanded in Rosetta's room.
The redhead girl was startled by Sora abrupt entrance in her room. She didn't even make a move seeing her in that state. She didn't know if she could call it anger or something worse.
"I'm here. Why the fuss! You finally remembered my existence!" Complained the spirit stage floating on his back and eating some snacks. It seemed he was looking some show on the T.V. with Rosetta.
Sora wanted to blame him for teaching unnecessary things to Rosetta. But Layla was more important. "Find Layla!" She simply ordered.
"Excuse me I'm not a GPS. If-"
"Find her and I'll give you naughty pictures." Sora said in despair.
"Roger! I'm already out!" Fool left Rosetta's room at light speed and couldn't be seen in the sky.
"Layla disappeared?" Rosetta forgot her surprised and didn't seem impressed anymore by Sora's strange state.
Sora turned to her slowly thinking of her words. She didn't want to aggravate her situation with Layla. She already talked with too much people. "No. I'm just looking for her." She just said before leaving.
"But-" Rosetta was intrigued and didn't like to be left out. She decided to follow Sora at a reasonable distance.
Soon Fool came back while Sora was walking on the pavement near the beach. He said something and Sora asked Vince for a ride. The black man was leaning on his bike with Jy Sung admiring the girls on the beach.
Rosetta sighed. Did boys have nothing more to do during their lunch break? She wondered.
Sora and Vince were already at long distance when she approached the korean boy.
"Hi." She simply said.
"Hey! Isn't it my girl?" Exclaimed a joyful Jy Sung.
Rosetta ignored his last words and got to the point. "Where did they go?"
"Huh? Ah! You talk about Sora and Vince? Hamilton Corp office if I heard well. Why?" He asked still smiling.
"Nothing." Rosetta replied. She considered her options but going there will be too obvious. She prefered to give up for now. May will be furious if she missed her training.
"Thanks Vince." Sora said while putting off her casque.
"You're welcome. Do you want me to wait?"
"Thanks but you need to get back at work. I'll take a cab at worst. Bye." She passed the automatic glass doors and entered in the skyscraper.
Vince stared at her figure with a nostalgic face and put back his casque before leaving.
She feared to be turned back by the switchboard operator but she was strangely welcomed. "Of course Miss Naegino. You can take the elevator on your right to the last stage. Miss Hamilton is in an important meeting with the board but you can wait inside office at the end of the floor.
"Thanks." Sora said after bowing a little. Inside the elevator multiple thoughts crossed her. Layla is not supposed to be at Hamilton Corp on fridays. Maybe there was an emergency? She kind of hoped it was reason Layla didn't answer her phone. Even if Layla was still mad she could just apologize and they could forget about her stupid idea.
"50th floor. You arrive at your destination. Have a nice day."
Sora smiled hearing the robotic voice. It was the first time she came at Hamilton Corp. She could only imagine what kind of place it was. And if one could find the building impressive from the outside and the hall gigantic, the bureaux were massives too. She understood only the big management was in this floor as all the rooms were closed. There were no operators to welcome the public.
But an office on the left catch her attention. It seemed bigger than the rest with a big window on the top. Unfortunately she couldn't see inside. It was too high. She decided to continue to the office at the end of the floor but no one was there. Now that she thought about it, it felt empty. The big room catch her attention again. "I don't have another choice. I didn't came for nothing."
Sora evaluated the distance and the strength she needed to succeed in her sault. Fortunately there was some space between the window and the wall. She could put her hand there and have a support.
She stepped back and run towards the wall. She put her right foot against the wall to jumped even higher and caught the window frame with one hand and with the other to raise her head high enough to see the what happened in that room.
Everyone was there sitting in a big oval table. She recognized Archibald standing near the end wall. He was showing some graphics projected on the wall. Richard was on the other end of the table in front of the glass wall that showed the outside. Then she saw her. Layla was almost next him at this left. Two persons separated them.
Sora observed her longly. It wasn't even a day but she really missed her. Then their eyes crossed. For a long time Layla stared back without reacting. Then she stood up and whispered something in her father's ear before leaving the room.
When she closed the door Layla glanced upside to see her girlfriend suspended above the wall.
"Hi." Said an uneasy Sora. She wasn't sure if she could get down yet. But to her surprise Layla just grinned.
"I like the view." Layla expressed with a wider smile.
"What?!" Sora inquired. Then she understood. She followed Layla's stare under her skirt. "Oh!" She finally got down and faced her girlfriend. But she was still hesitant. "I-I'm sorry. I'm sorry fo-"
"Not now." Layla interrupted. "The meeting didn't end. I have to be there. Wait for me in my father's office."
Sora didn't have time to answer that Layla was already gone. But this time her heart was lighter as she entered in Richard's office.
It was quite simple. A desk in front the colossal window with the american flag on the right side and a plant on the left. Two sofas were facing each other in front the desk with table coffee between them.
She sat on the one that faced the left wall and noticed a painting. It's looked like a white house on the beach. It strangely felt familiar but she couldn't remember why. Then she shook her head. She didn't have time for that. She needed to think of a good way to arrange things with Layla. The blonde woman didn't seem angry and yet she still avoided her calls today.
She probably waited thirty minutes before someone opened the door. It was Archibald. "Hi sunshine of my heart!" He welcomed her with a big smile and hold her warmly before sitting next to her. "I heard the night was cold for both of you."
"Hum." Sora didn't know what to say.
But Archibald wasn't here to tease her for once. "Was it Manami?"
"What?" Sora looked at him taken aback.
The beard man seemed more serious than usual. "Manami and I slept together several times in an hotel room."
Sora's surprise grew as she registered the information. "Manami and you? I didn't know...How-"
"Well you know how it work." He said with a wink.
"That's not what I was asking!" She yelled a little outraged.
Archibald took a deep breathe. "I know." He put his back against the sofa and an elbow on one arm rest. Then he stared at Sora in the eyes. "You won't like what I'm gonna say but it's just the truth."
"Keep on." She encouraged him.
"I'm quite a handsome man and having sex is not hard at all. And I loved all the women. Age, shape, anything as long as it have a pu-"
"Do you really have to say the word?" Asked a more shocked Sora.
Archibald smiled in his beard. "I guess not. What I'm trying to say is she is just one among others. Plenty. But it seems she got attached and believed there was something more. So I had to stop everything and blocked her on my phone." He explained raising his arms. "What else could I do?"
"I dunno talk to her." Sora suggested sarcastically. She started to understand. Manami dark mood about love probably came from it. If she had knew before she would have restrain herself on listening to her advice.
"That's why I prefer whores. No need to talk." He concluded while attempting to get up but Sora stopped him with her hand on his arm.
"Can you please apologize and talk to her?" She could almost feel Manami's pain and wanted to help her friend.
Archibald looked at her with a sorry face. "Any show of kindness would give her hopes. She wants a lasting relationship. I don't. I may settle one day but not to that kind of girl. I just want a nice housewife who can welcome me with a nice meal. More like your mother. So you talk to your friend if you want but she's not my problem anymore." His last words weren't kind at all showed by his annoyed face. "I have to go before my new boss cut my head."
"What?"
"Layla will explain." He replied while leaving.
M. Hamilton followed a few minutes later. "Hi Sora! I won't bother you too long. I'm just taking some affairs on my old desk."
Sora couldn't hide her astonishment as she watched him taking things on the desk to put them on a cardboard. "Are you moving out?" She inquired while approaching him.
Richard Hamilton stopped what he was doing and stared at Sora with a sad face. "No. I just got fired from my chairman seat." He explained putting a photo of him and Layla in the box. He looked at the painting with melancholy and took the cardboard. "It's Rola island. I hope Layla will bring you there one day. There's a lot of memories there. Some became bittersweets but there are the only things I have from my wife. Some memories and my beautiful daughter." He then turned to Sora and glanced at her necklace a brief moment. "Please tell her I'm sorry. Really. Goodbye." He quickly headed to the door.
"Where are yo-" This time Sora was lost. What did happened?
In the Kaleido office, Kalos was reading the first cabaret script. It killed him to admit it but it was really good. "So Carmilla it is then? I thought we wanted something original?"
Cathy smiled at his question. "Plans changed while I observed Sora. The role just fits the woman she became."
Kalos seemed more intrigued as he disagreed. "She will make a better Belle." He objected.
"We shall see." Cathy said leaving his office.
Hi everyone! I hope you'll enjoy this new chapter.
Thanks for reading Another wing and for all your reviews. I replied to all guest reviews at the end of the last two chapters plus this one.
Replied to review :
SoraLaylaFan: Thanks for your review. I'll try to update sooner and more frequently. Thanks for your compliments on the characters. It's not easy to stay faithful to the anime and continue the story. So I appreciate the compliment. Again thanks.
Lali: Thanks for your review. Ken is still fighting his demons. He really is in love with Sora unlike Rosetta who is more infatuated. I try to not make the character one dimensional. I guess it's harder with Ken's mother but I hope to redeem her. And I think you talk about Richard. Well you'll have your answer in chapter 22.
Black Star: Thanks for your review. Layla will be the biggest source of trouble Layla unfortunately. M. Hamilton won't be in a good position for a while but he is strong.
kaleido lover: Thanks for your nice review. I appreciate the compliment. Don't worry I won't give up.
Rose: Thanks for your comment. Another wing is not a tragedy, don't worry. But the journey will be eventful, even for Layla's father. You'll get answer at chapter 22.
Ondine: Thanks for your review. Layla and Sora will have to overcome a lot of obstacles. But it will be interesting to see how. The parents will be parents aka annoying for some and supportive for others. They can't all be nice.
Maya 8: Thanks for reviewing Another wing. It's unfortunate for teh Robbins but someone has to represent some kind of homophobia. Yet it's not the worst...
I couldn't resist putting glasses on a sexy Layla Hamilton^^ It's time for Richard to let it go I'm afraid. It's hard to make a baby character interesting so I just make her cute:-)
As for Rosetta and Ken. There will always be people interested in Layla or Sora. Because they both are wonderful but as long as their couple is solid it won't be a threat to them.
Guest: Thanks for your review and your nice compliments. I can't sell this story but I'm glad you think it deserves a penny :-)
Like the other I fully hear your wishes to see Sora as the cabaret lead. I can understand why you like the twist of seeing her in a mature play. But yeah timing will need to be adjusted accordingly.
Of course it hard for people to not love Sora. Because of that Layla will always have competition but that's not a bad thing to see a jealous Layla^^
Maybe Sora's father is just a father worry for his daughter well-being. Don't be to harsh on him. He doesn't deserve it...yet. As for now they can't pay their own appartment but maybe there is a way...
Ken's mother is still grieving. It takes time to heal and accept that some things will never happen.
Layla's father is in big sh- but his reaction might be interesting.
As for our favourite couple. It's such a delight to be able to write about their everyday intercations and see their relationship evolves naturally. I'm happy the readers enjoy it too. If you think Sora is bold and crazy wait for Vegas to see at what extent. That will be crazy wild. And that how I'll love to write about her character. See you soon.
Guest: Thanks for nice review. I dunno if this is the ultimate Kaleido fanfic but I'm glad you like it. See you soon.
