Chapter 2: Demons!
Danny felt that he was falling. And that he was burning... his body was on fire. He felt the heat. He felt the pain... again. He... saw them again... he heared thier screams again... His mother, his father... now he saw them how they looked like when he saw them for the last time... so many years ago... 22 years... 22 years of guilt... 22 years of pain... His life... His life and it's ups and downs. His dreams that shattered years ago... The plans he and Sam had but that they were never able to reach... Nothing... he was a 38 years old jobless engineer who was not able to feed his four kids and not even able to make his wife smile...
Danny opened his eyes to see onto a dirty yellow-grey ceiling. And he heared a beeping device. Carefully he tried to turn his head to the left side. If it was his and Sam's bedroom, there would be his wardrobe. But instead he saw a big wooden cupboard, open and empty. One of the doors had a mirror and he saw Sam in it, which meaned that she sat at the other side on a chair. His whole body felt like he gained tons. What happened? Was it a nightmare? Why he had it anywhere? Gosh did it happen again? Where is Sam? Does she know what happened?
"Sam..." Danny wailed quietly. He could hear a chair scratching over the floor.
"GOSH... DANNY!" she jelled when she lift up. She sound relieved but also sad.
Danny turned his head to the right and saw Sam jumping up from the chair she was sitting in and comming closer. Her face was pale, her eyes red and full of tears. She weared the same clouthes as when she left the house to go to work before Danny had his... what-ever with his parents. Where that really his parents? Never ever! Absolutely impossible. That was a nightmare!
"Oh, Danny..." Sam cried. Danny could hear the worry in her face. "Danny, how are you?"
"Where am I?" Danny asked with a dry throat. He was thirsty, hungry and felt tired. "What happened?"
Before Sam was able to answer both heared a door opening. A petite African-American woman, wearing a doctor's coat and a stethoscope around her neck entered the room with a friendly, self confident smile. She was happy about Danny waking up again, too.
"Mr. and Mrs. Fenton, I am Doctor Rodgers! Good to see that you already woke up. I have good news for you. Looks like it was just a harmless faintness. And instead of your low blood-pressure, your vitals are all okay. It was not a circulatory collapse..."
"Doctor..." Danny wanted to say something but Sam took his hand and pleaded to him to be quiet. He had to relax.
"Danny, relax! Everything will be fine." she said before turning to the woman. "Doctor... My husband is suffering from hypotension for months now. This is already his third syncope this month..."
"I have your husband's health-history here with me." the doctor said looking threw her files. "There were many tests made. All negative..."
Danny stopped listening to the conversation of the two woman. Or to that beeping, he finally recognized as a heart-monitor. He thought more about his parents and thier sudden appearance in his living-room. But they also looked a little bit different... more modern. But what about the boy who looked like a younger himself? And the younger Sam? And Tucker? Should he tell Sam about? No! No, Sam will freak out. Jazz, maybe? No! She would freak out, too. And than she would make a hours long speech about his psychic condition. Danny turned back to Sam who still talked with the doctor.
"...thank you!" Sam finished and the other woman left. "Danny..."
"Sam... How long I was gone?"
"I don't know... Ellen just randomly found you..." Sam explained and start to tell what happened.
Mentioned Ellen, a neigbour, was walking across the street and passed the house when she heared weird noise and a scream threw thier open living-room window. Danny's health condition was part of the town's gossip and so she went to the house. After there was no respond to her knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell she went to the open window and saw Danny laying on the ground in the living-room. She called 911 immediately and they brought Danny to Hospital which was luckily just three blocks away...
"I am... just glad that they did not get me to Rockford again, this time." Danny said. "That would had been a longer ride."
"They want to keep you overnight!" Sam continued.
"No... please..."
"Danny... please!" Sam said, a tear running down her face. Danny was surprised. Sam was a tough lady. Some described her as so cold that she is not able to cry. So she was really worried and afraid. "Do what the doctor says! I... came here directly from work. I go home to get you some fresh clouthes. I'll be back soon..."
"Sam..." Danny, took his wife's hand. "Sorry, that I scared you!"
Sam nooded and gave him a kiss on his forehead. "It's okay. Just get well soon!"
Sam left. And Danny start to think about the event's again.
Sam Fenton, never expected her life to be like now. She was a tough and self-confident woman. But she was also not happy with her current situation. She was well aware that thier current situation was difficult. The kids were well aware of that, too. Gosh, the kids... She has to call Jazz but she was afraid to tell the kids that thier father faded away, again. And the costs... She walked home because she had no money to pay a taxi. Luckily they live in a suburb with few traffic and with a hospital close to thier home. A home, she was afraid to loose. Especially after the bank refused to give a deferment of payment for the mortage...
Sam grew up in a wealthy family. And now she had to fear to loose house and husband at once... It was evening by now. The sky turned orange. She saw children playing in the streets. It was a quiet and peaceful town. A nice place to live. Jazz thought about moving here, too. But her husband was a native 'Chicagoian' how he liked to tell it. And he had a job there, too. Jazz as a psychologist was able to work everywhere. A lot of things happened in the past years since they all left Amity Park. Thier hometown...
Sam woke up from her daydreams when something soft, but fast hit her right shoulder from behind. The shocked Sam almost fell down while she shrieked and saw a mini-basketball rolling over the ground right in front of her.
"SORRY, MRS. FENTON!" a young boy jelled. Sam turned around to see the group of playing kids looking on her. She knew many of them. They were in the same age as thier kids. One of them accidentely kicked the ball in her direction and hit her.
Sam just smilled and kicked the ball back to the kids. "No problem! Have fun, kids!"
Sam thought about thier kids again. And she was worried... The kids were worried, too. They knew what's going on. With these minds and a lot of more, she arrived home. The door was unlocked of course. Thier neigbour Ellen closed the window, what Sam was really grateful for. But now she mentioned that it was awfully sticky in the house. So far everything was normal. Of course she found the huge chaos in the living-room the paramedics left there. On the phone her neigbour told her that she closed the window and switched of the TV. Than she saw it...
She almost did not mention it. Because she wanted to go back to the hospital as soon as possible. But she saw that something was missing. On the wall behind the TV. Two pictures normally hanging on the wall were missing. Sam went to the wall to look. Maybe they just fell down. But than she mentioned that the wall was dirty. A little drop of a green liquid... She did not recognize what it was. A bright green 'slime' was comming out of the cap between the two wallpaper strips.
"What is that?" Sam murmured and went closer. She did not want to touch it. It could be anything. So she went to the kitchen to get a paper-towel and used it to remove the green-slime from the wall and to investigate it. "Hmm... That's not mold!... Smells... like nothing..."
Sam was not able to identify the green-slime. She looked for the two missing pictures again but she did not find them. Did Danny took them off? She should ask him later. When he feels better. For now there were other things to do. The silence inside the house was creepy. It remembered her that she was alone...
A few minutes later, Sam left the house again with a bag of fresh clouthes for Danny walked back to the hospital where she spend the next hour until she was thrown out because the visiting-times where over. And after a lonely night and a lonely morning in the empty house Sam went back to the clinic, this time by car to pick Danny up.
Later fell into a deep dreamless sleep shortly after Sam was left. And when he woke up he felt as bad as always for the last couple of months. But he was happy to leave the hospital again. Hoping to not to see it again soon. But he had to agree that he had not sleept so good for a long time. After finishing everything Danny and Sam walked to thier car. It bothered him. Danny really wanted to tell Sam what he saw. But more and more he start to believe that it was really just imagination.
"Did you tell Jazz?" Danny asked when both entered thier old grey Toyota Estima on the parking-lot.
"Yeah. She is really worried. I promised her to call her today again." Sam said while she took the keys into the lock and tried to turn on the motor.
The car was not the newest. It had 178 thousand miles on the mileage and made this sick sounds when Sam tried to start the motor. After the fourth attempt the motor finally start to howl and they were able to leave. During the ride, both realized that they really needed to buy another car.
"When did we buy this one?" Danny asked to change the topic.
"We bought it new! It was just published." Sam remembered. "I was pregnant!"
"Yeah... It was the only car you did not complain about how tight it was." Danny said and Sam had to laugh. For the first time in days. But Danny really wanted to see her laugh again.
"Oh, yeah..." Sam smirked. "I was so weepy back than."
"What a funny time..." Danny said with a smile and laughed to not to hear the scratching from the motor, that would cost them 900 Dollar to repair. Way more than the car was worth...
They arrived home a minute later. There Sam led Danny to the rear terrace, where she forced him to set into the deck chair and harshly ordered him to relax. Danny tried to protest. But Sam did not allow it. She throw a novel about the Apollo 13 mission on his chest and ordered him to read it. Knowing how much he enjoyed stories about astronauts. Danny knew that Sam was worried. And he did not want to worry her more. But than later... some time after lunch... Sam thought Danny would be well enough now to answer her...
"Ehm... Danny. One question: You know the two pictures in the living-room? Over the TV?"
Danny suddenly got flashbacks from the event. Suddenly he decided to tell her about. But first he wanted to hear what she wanted to tell him. "What about them?"
"Did you removed them?" Sam asked. "I looked everywhere but they are gone. The photo of the kids from our trip to the lake. And the other one from my granny? They hang over the TV but they are gone!"
"I didn't remove them... Was it... gosh... what if it was not just imagination?"
"What? What, was not just imagination?" Sam asked. "You know how important the picture of granny is for me?! So what happened to them?"
"Is there anything else missing?" Danny asked before they heared the doorbell.
"I will look. Wait, here..." she said before she left to open the door.
Danny turned around to look threw the glass-doors into the living-room. The pictures were really gone. And for Sam, the picture of her granny was her sanctuary. He would never remove it. But who would steal it? The weird window...? Gosh... It vanished with the pictures...
"Danny... we have guests!" Sam yelled and woke him up again.
Danny turned around to see Sam approaching him with a familiar couple.
"Randy, Ellen... Hello!" Danny said happily to his friends. The Anderson's. Randy was a colleague from his workplace and his wife Ellen was a friend of Sam. Both lived down the street and it was Ellen who found him yesterday.
"We wanted to look how you are today! Better?" Ellen asked. "You're still so pale..."
"Aww... well... there are a lot of things going on. Missing pictures, voices from the walls..." Danny explained, confusing the couple. "How about some, coffee?"
For Danny, it was a lucky circumstance that they came. And Helen even brought a basket full with her famous self made muffins. For Danny one more reason to invite them for coffee.
That was an evening how Danny and Sam expected it for the time with the kids out of the house. Sitting together with friends and spend an relaxed time together. And so they sat with coffee and muffins on the Fenton's terrace and talked about work, the weather, local rumors and other stuff. Of course, Danny asked carefully what Ellen saw or heared when she found him...
"No! No, there was nothing else!" she told. "Why do you ask?"
"It's just that I... well... I don't know how to describe it... I think it was just a nightmare!" Danny said.
"What?" now Sam became curious again.
"Well... I saw... people in the wall." Danny said. "There was a bright green light... and I saw... My parents...!"
With a loud bang, Sam almost shattered her cup... "What? Oh, my gosh! That just proves one thing..."
Everyone looked on her while she took her cup to drink it empty with just one gulp. She smashed it back on the table and took a very deep breath.
"You had a near death experience!" she said with a tear running down her face.
"No! No, Sam... that was just..." Danny tried to calm her down but Sam lift up and left. She was too upset to stay seated. "Please, Sam..."
"Let her! You know how worried she is for you! We all are!" Ellen told.
Danny moaned. He knew that she was right. Ellen lift up, too to look after Sam who walked up and down in the kitchen. Leaving Danny with Randy alone.
"They still did not figure out what's wrong with you, don't they?" he asked.
"No!" Danny moaned again. "But you can't imagine how much I wish to go to work again. Sam does not admit it, but I see that she is on the verge. She is working so hard to get us all through. Our company did not write me off already?"
"No! You are free to come back as soon as you feel better!" Randy said and suddenly remembered something. He start to search something in his pockets. "Oh, before I forget it... Myers, from the production told me that there was a weird call for you!"
"A call for me?" Danny asked.
"Yeah, there is some guy in Wisconsin who asked for you?" Randy told and finally found a note in his pocket. "Myers told me, that it was a man who asked for you. But the caller was not sure if you are 'the' Danny Fenton he is looking for!"
"What do you mean with that?" Danny asked while he took the note from his colleague. "Wisconsin? I don't know anyone there!"
"I did not talk with the man! You have to ask Myers!" Randy told. "Myers asked me to give you his private-number. He can tell you more..."
Danny looked on the clock. Arnold Myers have to be at home now. He decided to call him...
"...yes, that was today in the morning!" Danny's colleague told him over the phone, while Danny stared on the living-room wall. The wall looked normal, but the pictures were really gone. And some stuff from the shelves seemed to miss, too.
"Did he tell you what he wanted?" Danny asked nervously. He could hear Sam walking up and down in thier bedroom over him. It was obviously that she will need some time to calm down.
"He just asked for Daniel Fenton from Amity Park, Illinois. And I told him, that the only Danny Fenton I know is from Arkansas. But as I know that you don't speak Southern American English I always thought that you might not be really from there. And I told this man..."
"Yeah, yeah... I explain you that later. I was born in Illinois! So what did this man want from me instead of talking to me?"
"It was so loud in the production-hall. I did not really understand him. But of course I refered him to the HR department because first of all I don't know your private number and I don't know when you will return to work..."
"Okay, thank you Myers. I understood!" Danny knew that Arnold Myers was able to talk like a waterfall. "Did he tell you his name?"
"It was so loud. There was so much noise when he told his name. Something with an M... Mas... Masters!"
"Masters?" Danny did not know anyone with that name.
"Yes, his name was Masters! Vadim... Volodja... Vladas... I don't remember. It sound Russian! But he was definetely not Russian. He spoke perfect Great Lakes dialect and he sound really really worried. He was kind of desperate. And he insisted on talking to you!"
"And what did you tell him?" Danny asked.
"Just that I am not sure if you are the Daniel Fenton he is looking for and connect him with the HR department. That's it."
"I don't know an Va-how-ever Masters in Wisconsin?" Danny told. Wisconsin was just an hour away by car. And he and Sam made some trips with the kids up there. But he can't remember that he ever met someone called Masters. "But, thanks! If he really want's to talk to me and has a reason he will find me... Thank you and have a nice evening, Myers! Good bye..."
"So, you are from Amity Park?" Myers asked astonished. "So that's where you get your s..."
"Good bye, Myers!" Danny said again. This time louder and hang off. He was not in mood to talk with the biggest chatterbox of the company about Amitiy Park. And especially not about what happened there...
Danny left to get out on the terrace again, not wanting to think about that this gossip aunt will now tell everyone that he is from Amity Park. Sam went down the stairs, too. She finally calmed down.
"Sorry, for that Danny!" she said. Her face was red. As well as her eyes. So everyone saw that she cried. And that was really, really rare.
"It's okay... Sam do you know a Russian in Wisconsin?"
Sam looked on him confused and shaked her head. Danny could also just shaking his head. Together both left the room to get to the back again. But suddenly Danny turned around again to look on the living-room wall, again. This room felt so weird again. So... strange... It felt like someone is watching him... for a brief moment, he thought that he sees a blue breath comming out of his mouth... he rushed out, back to thier guests and to the muffins with coffee...
