Renji Tenzin watched proudly as his daughter sat at the dinner table eating her breakfast while dressed in her new school uniform. The first day of high school had finally come and she was ecstatic, scarfing down her food as quickly as possible so she could get to school early.

"School's not going anywhere," He stated as Himari nearly swallowed her grilled fish whole. "Slow down, no need to choke."

"I'm just excited," The teenager explained as she slowed down and gently scooped her rice out of her bowl.

"I was too when I went to UA," Her father stated. "But you don't want to throw up on your first day. That would be embarrassing."

"I'm fwine dapth," She mumbled with the rice in her mouth.

"You need to swallow before you speak," Tenzin muttered. "No need to ignore table manners."

A loud gulp sounded in the room, "Sorry, dad. Just ready to go, I guess."

The blonde man smirked as his daughter quietly finished her food before she rose from her seat and collected the dishes from the table, placing them gently in the sink as she started to wash them. The father shook his head and brushed the white-haired girl away from the sink so she could get herself ready. He tidied up the remains of breakfast while she scrambled around the house to collect her belongings, laughing as Himari fumbled to the ground as she tried to pull on a pair of black tights under her skirt.

"I hate how short these stupid uniform skirts are," She grumbled as she adjusted her tights.

"Come on Himari," Tenzin stated as he dried off the dishes. "Take it slow or you'll be in a bigger mess and miss the early train."

"Don't rush me, dad!" She snapped as she got up from the floor and tossed her bag over her shoulder. She paused in front of their father and wrapped her arms tightly around him. "Love you."

"Love you too," Tenzin smiled as Himari ran to the front food, waving goodbye quickly before she slammed the door shut and started on her journey to tackle her first day at high school.

The white-haired girl stayed quiet on her way to the school, lost in her thoughts. Renji knew there would be two classes of the hero class, with twenty students in each class. She knew four students got in on recommendation, and they would be split up between the two classes. She was surprised only thirty-six kids got in from all the examinees she noticed from the test, but UA was well known for their small acceptance rate.

"Class 1-A, right?" She whispered to herself as she glanced through the hallways in the school building. She paused and walked towards the large door with the correct label on it. She eyed the giant door oddly before she pulled it open and was greeted by a few of her new classmates mingling around the room.

"Renji!" Himari stumbled as Ashido appeared out of nowhere and tackled her into an embrace. "I knew you would make it! You were amazing in the exam."

"Uhh...Thanks, Ashido."

"Come on!" The pink girl tugged her further into the room. "We can sit together!"

The bubbly girl led her over to a small group of other girls, Himari recognizing Uraraka and Jiro instantly while the other three were mysteries. One girl was completely invisible besides her clothing, one was rather tall with a volume defying ponytail, and the other girl was cute and frog? like.

"Everyone, this is Renji Himari!" Ashido happily introduced the shy girl. "She's the one that wrecked the zero pointer in our exam space."

The white-haired girl blushed and rubbed the back of her head, "I really didn't do much, just immobilized it."

"That's quite an impressive feat. I'm Yaoyorozu Momo," the tall girl introduced.

The floating clothes jumped around, "I'm Hagakure Toru. Your quirk must be off the charts girl!"

"Asui Tsuyu, but you can call me Tsu," The smaller frog girl chimed in.

Himari bit her lip as she stood surrounded by the girls, trying to get more comfortable as they continued to hound her with questions about her quirk, her hair care, clothing styles. She sighed and closed her eyes to settle her nerves, but shot them open when a loud voice rang out.

"I'm gonna fight someone if you stupid girls don't shut up!"

The group of girls all turned to see Bakugou standing by the doorway, glaring at them directly. They took a few steps back as the rude boy walked up to them and silently grasped

Renji's arm, dragging her away from the small crowd to two empty seats by the window.

She blinked in surprise as he pushed her into one of the seats before settling down behind her, tossing his feet onto the desk.

"Katsuki, that was rude," The purple-eyed girl muttered. "They were just being friendly."

"Ugh, they were annoying," He grumbled as he shifted in his chair.

Himari glanced over to the gaggle of girls and gave them an apologetic smile, relaxing slightly as Yaoyorozu waved her off and turned to tell the other girls to find their seats as well.

"Take your feet off of that desk right now!"

Himari and Bakugou turned their heads to see the same studious boy that called out Midoriya glaring at the blonde, "Huh?"

"It's the first day and you're already disrespecting this academy by scuffing school property, you cretin!" The boy snapped.

Bakugou snorted, "You're kidding me, right? Your old school put a stick up your ass or were you born with it?"

"Katsuki!" Himari hissed as she turned to face her hotheaded friend, catching a glimpse of another blonde boy and a redhead laughing in the corner of the classroom. "Stop being such a jerk!"

"MAKE ME!"

"Uh-" The boy in front of them watched their reactions with confusion. "Let's start over. I'm Iida Tenya from the Somei Private Academy."

"Somei, huh?" Bakugou repeated. "So you must think you're better than me? I'm gonna have fun tearing you a new one."

Iida gasped, "You would threaten me? Your own classmate? Are you sure you're in the right place?"

A loud slap rang out in the room and Iida took a step back from the fast-moving girl in front of the ash-blonde, "I am sorry for his attitude. My name's Renji Himari and he's Bakugou Katsuki."

Iida gave the girl a warm smile at her manners but paused when he noticed the same green-haired boy from his exam standing by the doorway, "Huh? It's him," The two friends followed his gaze and locked on Izuku standing awkwardly alone.

The rest of the class turned their heads as well and zeroed in on Midoriya, "Uh...hi."

"Good morning!" Iida greeted cheerfully as he walked up to the nervous teenager. "My name is Iida Tenya fro-"

"Yeah, I know," Midoriya assured. "I'm Midoriya Izuku. It's super nice to meet you."

"Midoriya, You realized that there was something more in the practical exams, didn't you?" The boy flushed at Iida's observation. "You must be very perceptive and I completely misjudged you, I admit. As a student, you're far superior to me."

"Hey! I recognize that messed-up hair!" Uraraka chimed from her seat as she got up to speak with the plain looking teenager. "Falling boy! Your attack was so cool! And that punch was amazing."

Izuku stammered when he locked eyes with the girl he saved, "Oh, hey...hi. Oh my gosh...So, uh, I should probably be thanking you for going in and talking to him."

Katsuki glared daggers at the green-haired boy, but snapped out of it when he heard small giggles from in front of him, "Looks like Izuchan has a little crush on Uraraka."

"Still don't know how he cheated his way in," The red-eyed teen hissed.

"I don't think he cheated Kacchan," Himari whispered as she eyed Midoriya closer. It had been a while since she had been in the same space as him and she could finally focus enough on him to notice a slight shift in his overall demeanor. "Something's just different about his aura."

"You're just being soft on him cause you're friends," He guessed as he looked out the window.

"If you're here to make friends then you can pack up your stuff now," Himari turned her focus from her friend behind her to a yellow form lying on the ground behind Iida, Uraraka, and Izuku. The three jumped back and she narrowed her eyes at the man who she met during her exam. "Welcome to UA's hero course."

The trio in front of him tensed as he rose to his feet and unzipped his sleeping bag, revealing the black jumpsuit and the large scarf sitting on his neck, "It took eight seconds before you all shut up. That's not gonna work. Time is precious. Rational students would understand that," He walked by the students to stand by the teacher's table. "Hello, I'm Aizawa Shota. Your teacher."

The class gasped in shock at his announcement. Himari glanced at the pro-hero who she met during the exam, narrowing her eyes as she tried to recall why his name sounded familiar.

"Our teacher?"

Aizawa absently nodded as he pulled a UA gym uniform out of his sleeping bag, "Right, put these on and head outside," The class eyed him oddly but followed his instruction, grabbing the uniforms as they made their way to the locker rooms to change. When the whole class was changed and waiting outside by the baseball pitches Aizawa spoke again, "We're conducting a quirk assessment test today."

"What? A quirk assessment test?"

"But orientation!" Uraraka exclaimed. "We're gonna miss it!"

"If you really want to make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies," The teacher dryly explained. "Here at UA, we're not tethered to traditions. That means I get to run my class however I see fit." The students around the grounds grumbled while she kept her gaze on their homeroom teacher. "You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives. But you never got to use your quirks in physical exams before. The country's still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day, the Ministry of Education will learn."

"Bakugou," The blonde boy next to Himari tensed slightly. "You managed to get the most points on the entrance exam. What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in junior high?"

"Sixty-seven meters, I think," He replied.

Aizawa nodded, "Right, try doing it with your quirk," He shrugged and walked up to the teacher, snatching the ball out of his hands. "Anything goes, just stay in the circle. Go on, you're wasting our time."

"Alright man, you asked for it," Katsuki muttered as he stretched his arms.

He wound up his arm, waiting for his palm to spark before he followed through and blasted the ball into the air. The students watched in shock as a large gust of wind rammed into them from his explosion. Himari was highly impressed as the ball fell back to the earth, crashing into the ground near the farthest fence.

"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities," Aizawa muttered as he looked at his phone, flashing a measurement of 705.2 meters towards the class. "It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro-hero."

"Whoa, 705 meters," The blonde with the lightning bolt in his hair muttered. "Are you kidding me?"

"I wanna go!" Ashido cried. "That looks like fun."

"This is what I'm talking about, using our quirks as much as we want."

"So this looks fun, huh?" The teacher wondered.

"It looks informational," He turned his head to see Tenzin's daughter crossing her arms. "If you don't know our full quirk usage how would you be able to teach us to the best of your ability? Furthermore, how would we know how to act around each other? Some of us could have far more debilitating quirks compared to the rest so it is wise for you to know who to keep a closer eye on."

"Sounds like you're speaking from experience," He watched closely as she bit her cheek and tucked herself slightly closer to Bakugou, who had now returned to standing by her side. "You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all gonna be games and playtime?" The student who spoke before Renji shook his head as Aizawa glared at him. "Idiots. Today you'll compete in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none, and will be expelled immediately."

The class collectively gasped at his claim, but Himari sighed as she leaned slightly against Katsuki, letting her head rest on his shoulder. The boy scoffed but refrained from shoving her off of him in front of the teacher, "Like I said, I get to decide how this class runs. Understand? If that's a problem, you can head home right now."

The white-haired girl straightened up slightly as Uraraka stepped up to the front of the crowd, "You can't send one of us home! I mean, we just got here! Even if it wasn't the first day, that isn't fair."

Aizawa huffed, "Oh and you think natural disasters are? Or power-hungry villains? Hm? Or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is full of unfairness," He rolled his shoulders. "It's a hero's job to try to combat that unfairness. If you want to be a pro, you're gonna have to push yourself to the brink. For the next three years, UA will throw one terrible hardship after another at you. So go beyond. Plus Ultra-style. Show me it's no mistake that you're here."

He waved the class over to a small track, "We're wasting time with all this talking. Let the games begin."

Himari watched closely as he explained the parameters of the first test: a 50-meter dash. A robot would measure the amount of time it took you to complete the test and you could use your quirk in any way to improve your time. She watched closely as the first runners, Asui and Iida, took their places. They started and both made great times, Iida coming first with 3.04 seconds due to his engine calves.

"Well, he's definitely in his element, but speed won't help him in every test," Aizawa mumbled as he glanced at the boy stretching at the end of the track.

Himari watched a few others in the class go before she was told to line up next to a boy with half white-half red hair. She gave him a weak smile as she tried to calm her own nerves. She turned her gaze back to the track and lifted her hands as she got into a running position. The buzzer rang and she took off running, forcing her body into water to propel herself forward with the manipulating part of her quirk. She skidded to the end right after the dual-haired boy, who slid across the line with a trail of ice he made over the track. She reformed and beamed at the surprised looks on the other students' faces.

"4.02 seconds."

She smirked at her time but sighed as the sudden change in her body gave her a slight headache. She watched as Katsuki and Izuku went next and smiled as her blonde friend passed the finish line first with his explosive quirk, "My power has more uses than anyone else's in this school."

"I think you might be a tad off on that declaration," Himari muttered as her headache faded away the longer she was solid.

"Yeah, yeah, you move water," He rolled his eyes. "Big deal."

Renji did well on the grip test, being able to simply increase the pressure around the item with a water hand. Giving her the third-highest score behind Shoji, the six-armed boy, and Kirishima, who hardened his whole arm to grip the device. She passed the standing long jump well enough, knowing her quirk would do little to help there. Most of the tests went by easily enough for her, thankful for her grueling training with Katsuki and her body reserve practice with her father. But she knew by the end of the day she would either overuse herself like in the practical or have to soak some extra water instead of using her own. She watched closely as Uraraka stepped up for the ball throw and took the gravity off of the ball, sending it floating away into space.

The girl bounced in excitement when the measurement came up as infinity and the rest of the class was astonished.

"Infinity, that's insane!"

"How is that even possible?"

She furrowed her brows as Izuku stepped up to the circle, shifting her feet as she stood next to Katsuki, "If Midoriya doesn't shape up soon, he's the one going home."

She nodded her head at Iida's words, "He needs to stop overthinking and just go for it."

"Huh?" Bakugou eyed the runner oddly. "Of course he's going home. He's a quirkless loser."

"He has a quirk," Iida defended. "Did you not hear about what he did in the entrance exam?"

Ashido nodded her head in agreement, "Yeah apparently he went ballistic on his group's zero pointer. So Himari here's not the only one in our class that wigged out."

"You needed help, Ashido," She argued. "And besides both of us overused our abilities fighting those giants."

The group watched Midoriya closely as he wound up his arm, but Himari swung her head around to face their teacher when she felt the hairs on her neck stand on edge. She tensed at his floating hair and glowing red eyes, feeling no tremors of water at all through her body as she watched him glare at her childhood friend.

"What gives? I was trying to use it just now," Izuku muttered as he looked down at his hand.

"I erased your quirk," Aizawa stated simply. The rest of the class turned to where Renji was looking and saw their teacher's eyes glowing as his hair and scarf floated around him. "The judges for this exam were not rational enough. Someone like you should never be allowed to enroll at this school."

"Wait, you did what to my…Those goggles. I know you!" Izuku cried. "You can look at someone and cancel out their powers. The erasure hero: Eraserhead!"

"Eraser? Who's that?"

"Uh, I don't know."

Himari shifted her feet as she watched Aizawa glare at her friend, "He's a vigilante type hero. He works at night to capture villains in the cloak of shadows."

"You're not ready," The teacher insisted as he stared down Midoriya. "You don't have control over your power. Were you planning to break your bones again? Counting on someone else to save your useless body?"

"No!" Izuku denied. "That's not what I was trying to do!"

He screamed as Aizawa's scarf wrapped around him and pulled him closer to the adult, "No matter what your intentions are, you would be nothing more than a liability in battle. You have the same reckless passion as another overzealous hero I know. One who saved 1,000 people and became a legend," Himari bit her lip as she pondered the pro-hero's words, trying to figure out what he meant by them. "But even with that drive, you're worthless if you can only throw a single punch before breaking down. Sorry, Midoriya. With your power, there's no way you can become a hero."

His scarf and hair stopped floating as he closed his eyes and released the teenager, the rest of the class watching in surprise, "I returned your impractical quirk. Take your final throw. Hurry and get it over with."

The class watched as Midoriya stood frozen with the softball in his hand, mulling over Aizawa's words, "Don't overthink it, Izuchan!" He turned his head to see his white-haired friend waving at him, "Get out of your head and go for it! Use your energy wisely."

He smiled at her as he watched Bakugou tug her arm and hiss in her ear, the two starting their usual banter. He pulled his arm back as he thought about what he and All Might spoke of earlier, about not breaking the egg in the microwave. He focused his power directly on a single finger and let it break as the ball exploded into the air, flying further than he expected. He watched expectantly as Aizawa revealed his 705.3 meters of distance, a tenth more than Bakugou's earlier.

"Mr. Aizawa," He looked up at the boy. "You see? I'm still standing."

"He threw it over 700 meters!"

"Nice! He's finally showing off his power."

Himari carefully eyed Bakugou's surprised face as the rest of the class cheered at his quirk. She leapt into action as Katsuki sprinted towards their other friend with murder in his eyes.

"Hey! Deku, you bastard! Tell me how you did that or you're dead!" The boy was suddenly jerked back when Aizawa's scarf wrapped around him and held him in place. Mari rushed after him, but hesitated when she noticed the teacher intervening. "Why the hell is your damn scarf so strong?"

"Because it's a capture weapon made out of carbon fiber and a special metal alloy," The black-haired adult lazily explained. "Stand down."

"There's no way in hell! I have-"

The class watched in shock as the small white-haired girl slapped her hand coated in glowing water onto Bakugou's face and he collapsed into her arms, completely unconscious. Aizawa pulled his scarf back as the girl slipped to the ground with the blonde's head resting gently in her lap.

"I was wondering when you were actually going to put some effort into this exercise, Renji," She looked up at the pro-hero in surprise. "Holding back won't do any of us good."

"If I use my quirk at full power I can't always control it well," She weakly explained as she ran her hands lightly through Katsuki's hair. "Besides, this is just the healing aspect of my quirk, not useful for physical tests."

"Mari," Midoriya muttered. "How'd you do that so quickly. I've seen you make Kacchan tired before...but you knocked him clean out."

"Sleeping is a good way for your body to heal. So if I apply enough intent in my quirk I can make a person fall into a healing coma of sorts," Renji explained loud enough for the whole class to hear. "But people with a more powerful quirk and energy level take a higher level of concentration."

"That's so cool."

"Très unique!"

She blushed lightly at the praise from her fellow classmates, running her hand across Katsuki's face to restore his consciousness. His eyes fluttered open and he angrily shoved her back as he stumbled to his feet, turning his head so she would miss his light blush.

"You're both wasting time, let's keep going."

The teacher tiredly led them onto the next test, missing as Renji walked up and tightly grasped Izuku's hand. The boy flinched at the cool pressure on his finger but glanced down in surprise as the pain quickly disappeared. He pulled his hand back to see his hand completely unharmed.

"Why'd you heal it?"

"What you did was kinda stupid," She muttered as her hand resolidified. "But I always try to help my friends, even when they do stupid things."

The rest of the time passed quickly as the last three tests took place and Himari silently thanked Bakugou for his outburst, giving her that boost of confidence in her own skills. Soon the class crowded around to check the scoreboard for the results, "I've got your results. I've ranked you all from best to worst. You should probably have a good idea of your standing already."

Himari glanced up at the list and smiled at her placement, second place right behind Yaoyorozu while Katsuki sat in fourth. She looked over to the dual-haired boy and figured he was the 'Todoroki Shoto' in third place, wedging himself between her and Bakugou. She frowned however when she noticed Midoriya's name in last place.

"And I was lying, no one's going home," The class went dead silent as Aizawa smirked. "That was just a rational deception to make sure you gave it your all in the tests."

Most of the class freaked out at the news, but Yaoyorozu, Todoroki, and Renji all stayed calm, "I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out. I'm sorry, I guess I probably should have said something."

"Don't apologize, Yaoyorozu," The other girl insisted. "They have to learn things for themselves."

"That's it," Their teacher announced. "We're done for the day. Pick up a syllabus in the classroom before you leave. Read it over before tomorrow morning. Things will be tougher when your actual training begins. Make sure you're prepared."

Renji furrowed her brows as she and the rest of the class filtered back to the locker rooms, changing quickly so she could snag a syllabus. She smiled as she walked out of the building, but paused when she heard someone calling her name behind her.

"Oh, hi Ashido," She called to the pink girl running up towards her.

"Mr. Aizawa really likes to scare us, huh," She said as she caught up with the smaller girl. "I really believed his lie for a second."

"It's cause he wasn't lying," Himari replied as she noticed the sullen teacher standing off to the side of the building speaking quietly with All Might.

Ashido frowned, "Then why did he say he was?"

The white-haired girl shrugged her shoulders, "He saw something in Izuku, I guess...Changed his mind."

"Well if school's going to be like this all the time then I'm going to love it!" Ashido exclaimed as she jumped next to Himari.

"I think I'll enjoy it too," She gently admitted as they made their way to the train station.
