Alright, here's the next chapter! Enjoy!

Chapter 2: The Day With The Ice Cream 'Date'
Travis's POV
Ugh. I hate English class. My teacher is lecturing us on the best way to write a thesis statement, so I doodle on my paper and think, obviously. I still can't believe Katie-kat paid for my injuries, like all of it. She must have been saving some of that for college or somethin. I mean, she did hit me so she should pay for it, but she used her money, not her dad's. She has really grown to be a great person in the few years that I've watched from a distance. Wait, nonononono, that makes me sound like a stalker. I have NOT been stalking Katie. Just watching from a distance, not stalker-ishly. I don't care if that's not a word either. I may or may not have had a tiny crush on Katie when we were younger and played at the park, she was just such a cool ten year old girl, who played with mud cakes! That's amazing! It was everything a ten year old would want in a girl. After my mom sent us to an all boys school, I wasn't the same with girls. Yeah, weird cause I can flirt and act all arrogant sometimes. By freshman year, she was be-eautiful. Katie was, I meant. I mean she is beautiful. I was such a shy guy, surprisingly, I know I know. Alright, enough with my rambling. But still, I couldn't help but watch from a distance. I can't believe she didn't notice me though! Okay, I'm done now.
I'm able to go back to school after the weekend, since it was Friday when she hit me. At least I'm sure it was Friday, I guess the concussion is still playing with my head. I told her I'd take her out for ice cream next Friday, the day after, what was it? Well, I guess I'll have to talk to Katie to ask her what was important on Friday. I know she said there was something stressing her out when the doctor was talking to her or something. Oh well. I kinda wish I asked her to go out today, which is Monday, cause then I could see her sooner, but it's too late for that I guess. I can ask her later in math. My brother was not happy after I told him what happened on Friday. He's like my parent sometimes, even though he's younger. My mom was too lazy to notice that I was injured or whatever. I try not to think about her too much. Connor was surprised when I mentioned that it was Katie, who was still here after all those years, who hit me. I stare off into space, remembering for a moment how cute she looked when she blushed as she looked at my injured ribs…
"Mr. Stoll, would you be able to tell the class why the thesis statement of an essay is an important part of an essay?" I look up quickly and scowl slightly. I hate it when teachers do that. Pick on the kid who wasn't paying attention. I see she got to the end of the slideshow while I was totally not daydreaming about Katie.
"Uhhhh." I rack my brain to see what I remember from earlier this week. I hate English so I don't really pay attention. "Isn't it because it literally introduces your argument?" My teacher looks at me pointedly, and I shrug.
"Yes, Mr. Stoll. That is correct, but please pay attention. That was a basic answer. The full answer would be…" blah blah blah. I don't care. I really don't, I don't plan on going into an English major after high school, so why does it matter? I know the different types of essays and how to write them, and that's what I need. Just the basics and I'm set. Alright where was I? Oh yeah, Katie's cute blush…
I shoot up from my desk as soon as the bell rings and stuff my notebook and pencil in my backpack, which is hard to do with a hand in a cast, before I bolt out of the room. I head to the lunchroom to meet up with my friends. I find our table and slap Matt on the back.
"Dude you gotta stop that! You know it scares the crap outta me Travis!" Matt says, very obviously annoyed. "Where's your brother?"
"Wow Matt, I thought I was your best friend." I say as I sit down next to him. He's a year younger, and of course I'm joking. He is Connor's best friend. Somehow we all got lunch together, which was a win for all of us. Us meaning Connor, Matt, Freddie, James, Ethan, Logan, Adrian, and me. It's a pretty big group of us but we all came to high school from the all boys middle school. Since we sorta knew each other, all of them except James are younger than me by a year, the same age as Connor, we all sat with each other and then we kinda became "besties," as the girls call it. And now we are the loudest group in the lunchroom. I see my brother coming over here and move over so he can sit next to Matt. Soon all the other guys are there and asking about how I broke my arm.
"C'mon Travis, why aren't you telling us how it happened? We wanna know how you got into some macho fight with your brother and he beat you!" asks Logan.
"Shut up." I wave them off. "I don't wanna repeat when the other guys get here, just be patient." I look around the lunchroom trying to spot Katie. She never mentioned having the same lunch period, but still I couldn't help but wish. I didn't see her, but I did see her sister, Miranda. She likes to come over here with her friends and say hi sometimes. I turn back to my table to see James and Freddie sit down at the table, the last two I was waiting for.
"Alright, now are you gonna tell us what happened?" whines Ethan. I roll my eyes.
"It's nothing big, it's just-"
"How he met the love of his life!" shouts Connor. I glare at him as the other guys laugh.
"Really dude? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard!" laughs Freddie.
"No, I got hit by a car, which was driven by a girl." This got their attention and they decide to bombard me with questions.
"Really?" asks Adrian.
"Did it hurt?" asks Logan?
"Did you go flying?" Asks James.
"Was she hot?" asks Freddie. We all roll our eyes. Freddie is the girl crazy guy of the group.
"She must be if he keeps talking and daydreaming about her." Connor says. I motion for him to stop sharing by slicing my good hand across my neck. "Katie Gardner, will you be my girlfriend? Oh Katie, you're soooo cuuuute!" He says in a fake high pitched voice. The guys laugh a bit.
"Oh wait, Miranda's older sister Katie?" asks James. "She's cool, but she hit you with her car?
"Just let me tell you the story." I'm the type of guy who goes into all the details, so I shared pretty much everything, except for how Katie was feeling upset and stuff. That's not my stuff to share, so I don't share it.
"Wow, that's crazy Travis! But hey, you gotta date on Friday, so that makes up for it I guess."
"Yeah. I felt really bad, but she was really nice about it, except when I started annoying her. But one thing I noticed a lot of that night was that she blushes a lot more than I remember." I get a bunch of questioning stares, so I elaborate.
"Well, she kept blushing at things I would say, and then she blushed really hard when I had to take off my shirt. I got this really awesome bruise though, by the way." I lift my shirt up so they can see the bruise.
"Dude, how'd you even get a bruise there? You broke your arm!" says Matt.
"Well yeah, but she was driving a truck and it hit my arm into my chest so I got a really bad bruise."
"Wow. That's crazy. But guess what! I got a date with Leah over the weekend, and it went really well." said James. He has been asking this girl out for years, and by years I mean since freshman year.
"That's awesome James! Did you get any action yet?" Freddie says mischievously. I'm pretty sure we all do a mental forehead slap.
"Fred, you know there's more to girls than just 'action', right?" Adrian says. The rest of us all nod, and I stuff the last bit of sandwich into my mouth.
"Well, I can't help it that you guys don't wanna satisfy your needs and I do." He then folds his arms and turns away from us.
"Satisfy what needs?" Miranda and her friends Jane and Leah come over. James's smile brightens up as he sees Leah.
"Nothing, nothing. Just stupid Freddie over here, talking about something none of us yet understand." We all shoot glares over at him. Leah goes over and sits on his lap and gives him a hug and a kiss.
"AAAWWWWW!" All of us guys say. James and Leah blush and smile.
"Look at the happy couple! Where're ya getting married? Honeymoon? Gonna satisfy those needs?" says Freddie. We all roll our eyes again.
"Stop it guys." James says, blushing. Then he gives Leah a kiss on the cheek. I look away at Connor and see him and Miranda talking and blushing too. Oh geez, give me a break. I hear about Miranda so much, why don't they just ask each other out? Everyone knows they like each other.
I stand up and walk to the cafeteria to get some fruit loops from the snack shack. I don't know why but fruit loops are my favorite breakfast cereal. Probably because my dad got them for me when I was younger. I pay for the cereal and head back to my table, but then I see a familiar head of brown hair. I walk over and sit at the table next to her. She doesn't notice me, because she's looking out at a bunch of notes and notebooks and flashcards and textbooks and all kinds of school stuff.
"Hi Katie-kat." I say. Her eyes widen and she jumps a little.
"Geez Travis, please don't make a habit of that." she says. I look around and see that there are like no people over here.
"Why are you sitting alone? We have some extra seats at my table if you wanna come and sit with us, you know it's not good to be alone sometimes." I'm rambling again, aren't I.
"I'm sitting alone because I always sit alone, and besides. I'm studying for Midterms on Friday." Ohh that's what was important before our ice cream date.
"You always sit alone? Why? Are you sure you don't wanna sit with us?" I ask.
"Travis, are you ADD or something?" She cocks an eyebrow as she looks up at me from her books.
"Yes, yes I am." I say indignantly. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, you keep asking me questions, you're like that kid from Home Alone who looked through Kevin's family's stuff before they left for France. 'Does this van have automatic transmission?' 'Does it have four wheel drive?'" she says, trying to imitate the Chicago accent. I laugh.
"You're funny, you know that?" I see a slight pink dust her cheeks, before she looks up at me with her emerald eyes.
"Yeah, and you're annoying."
"And you're also mean." I say with a playful scowl.
"Ugh, Travis just go away. I'll see you in Calc." she says and turns back to her notes. I stand up to leave and ruffle her hair. She sticks her arm out behind her to hit me but she misses, so it looks funny.
"Bye Katie-kat. Good talk." I start to walk away and I hear her mumble, 'yeah whatever.' I walk back to my table in the lunchroom. The cafeteria has some tables and stuff, but the lunchroom is the old gym so there's a lot more people in here.
"Hey where'd you go?" James asks. The girls are gone by now.
"I went to get my weekly Monday fruit loops, then I said hi to Katie-kat." James raises his eyebrows but says nothing else. The rest of lunch went smoothly until James pulled me over in the hall after.
"Alright, why haven't I heard about this Katie girl before? Its kinda obvious that you like her." he states plainly. I am shocked, my mouth is even hanging open.
"Excuse me? Uh, what makes you say that?" I say back.
"The way you talk about her, even though you just brushed it off plainly. I saw the way you looked when you came back after talking to her, there was a light there that wasn't there before. In your face, I mean." I swallow and slightly nod my head. "So, how long has it been, since you knew her? Like her?"
"Well, it's kind of a long story…"
"Okay, so I'll hear about it after school, when you come to my house then. Alright, I gotta go to class. See ya later." Then James calmly walks away. He's a really good friend, to sit there and listen to all the stuff I have to say, which is a lot. It's one of the things I love about James. We kinda have a bromance going on right now, but not really. It's pretty great. I start walking to shop class, which is like my favorite class ever. Elective, make things out of wood, I get to create my own masterpieces. I think today we're working on sanding our projects, which is a chair. I have been working extra hard so I can get the pieces done soon, then I still have time to do some carvings on it, which was optional. After shop is gym, which isn't so bad, but then I'm sweaty when I see Katie in math after that. So that stinks. Literally.
An hour and a half later, math rolls around and I try as best as I can to get rid of the sweat. Like I just got done with floor hockey, I'm a mess now! Floor hockey is my favorite sport to play in the gym, and I love it because all the kids on my makeshift team are really good too. Our best player, this spitfire of a girl named Clarisse, is a hard player, so I try to play up to her level. Yes, up. She is even better than I am! Anyways, I got really sweaty trying to play harder than usual, so that was a mistake. And it was even harder to play with a cast on my right arm. I started asking around the locker room to see if anyone has any body spray, but the only thing that they have is the freshmen's axe body spray, and it's disgusting. But I use it anyway. This is off to a bad start Travis, and you know it. I run through the halls to get to class early so I can talk to Katie. When I get there I take the seat next to her, which is usually a different person's seat.
"Hey Katie." I say as nonchalantly as I can, even though my heart is still pounding from running through the halls. She looks up, a little surprised that I sat next to her. I see the kid who usually sits where I am giving me a funny look, but I don't pay attention.
"Hi Travis." she says after a few moments. A puzzled look comes over her cute face. Her nose is all scrunched up and one brown eyebrow is arched over her green eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I am in this math class, so-"
"No, I mean like here, as in next to me. I thought you said you sat at the back. And you took Maria's spot." Ahhhh, it was Maria's seat.
"Well, I don't think there are assigned seats in this class, and I didn't think Maria would mind so much, so I sat here. Next to you." I say. She looks at me for a few seconds, then turns to look at the teacher as she writes on the board. "How was your weekend?" I ask, trying to keep up the conversation.
"It was fine. How's your arm?" she asks, looking concerned. My heart soars, she's so kind, even if her full attention isn't on me. I hold up my arm with the cast.
"It's still in the cast, but it's doing pretty good. It's just really hard to shower with it." She turns to look at me again, except with a smirk on her face.
"That must be why you smell like freshmen body spray, you weren't able to take a shower." My eyes widen and her smirk turns into more of a smile.
"I did take a shower, I just said it was hard to. And I got sweaty at gym class so I did end up using some, to my passionate displeasure." She smirks again, and starts to say something, but our teacher starts explaining what we're going to do today, so she doesn't say it. I pull out my notebook that I actually take notes and listen to the teacher. I've always been a math/science type of guy, so I really pay attention because I like them. The rest of the class goes smoothly, just that I haven't talked to Katie anymore. It was a quiet study period after the notes, so we couldn't talk. Katie heads out the door almost immediately and I catch up to talk with her.
"Hey Katie, what'd you think of that new concept?" I ask. She looks at me surprised.
"I think that's the first time you called me Katie, Travis. Not Katie-kat or kit-kat or something. I liked the new lesson, but it was kind of confusing, just a little."
"Oh, if you want I can help you study sometime?" That came off as a question. It's totally not because I'm nervous though. Pshh, I never get nervous.
"That's okay Travis, thanks though. I have a busy day today." She says. She almost looks a little sad, but that couldn't have been about not hanging out with me, right?
"Okay, well, I'll see you later then."
"Yeah, bye." She says and then she walks off to her car.
"Well at least I got to talk to her." I say to no one in particular.
The rest of the week went pretty smooth. I went over to James house after school on Monday and told him everything. And I mean everything. All the pranks I've ever done, lies I've told, well that I remember. All of it. And then he told me to shut up and get to the Katie part about halfway through my ramblings. I mean, I was just talking to you, seriously, sheesh dude! Well, he thought that it was a little weird that I still had a crush on her, but he told me to go for it. He also gave me some sage advice. Like that word? I found out it means, it means, uhhhh, okay I forgot what it means. But the advice he gave me was this: just start out as friends. And I think I am going to do just that. I don't want to freak her out with how much I've watched her the past few years. In a totally not stalkerish way. Duh.
At school, I didn't do anything stupid around Katie, though I did invite her to sit with me and my friends, every day. And everyday she said no. And it definitely didn't hurt my feelings. Cause I'm a manly man, of course. In math class we talk some, but not too much. Cause I actually pay attention in there. Sometimes. Since yesterday, I have been trying to come up with a prank equation, and you know, trajectory stuff calls for math, so I worked on that in class. Surprisingly, it's really complex. Even I'm having trouble with it, but I'll figure it out soon. I think it's gonna be for Connor since he keeps bringing up Katie at lunch and totally NOT making me blush. Pshhh, Travis Stoll does not blush when cute girls are mentioned. Nope. Okay, maybe I do. Why did I talk about myself in third person? Why is Travis stoll so weird? There I go again. I have some problems. Obviously.
Anyway, today we have midterms for all my classes, and they were pretty easy. Except English. I have told you that I hate English class with my entire being, right? Well I do, so I probably failed cause it felt so easy. But I probably failed, so I don't know how that could have been easy, except that it was easy to fail? I'm confusing myself. Well now it's my honors calculus final and it's hard. And I even studied! Which is ludicrous in my world. How did I come upon that word, ludicrous? I honestly don't know. Cause I don't pay attention to vocabulary in English either. Or do I? Well, if this test is hard for me and I understand it, this must be super hard for Katie. I'm not insinuating that she's not smart or anything, she just said she was struggling a bit with some things. So it could be really hard for her. I look over at her to see her scribbling away on the paper, crossing some things out and rewriting. I'm not trying to cheat, just watching. I've taken advantage of getting to class early so I can sit next to her, cause, well, you know. I grin, her concentration face is on and it's adorable. I get back to my test. I finish up soon, but I don't wanna be the first person to walk up cause it's only half the class period so far. I go back over each answer to make sure, or at least be sure enough, that I got the right answers. I look at the clock. 2:34. I still have some time to kill, so I just take the paper up. I sit back down and pull a notebook out of my backpack and some pencils. Out of the corner of my eye I see Katie look over at me, a little surprised that I'm done so fast. Or maybe to see what I'm doing. I start drawing the designs I am going to have on my chair, but I stop as I see a few pieces of hair escape Katie's pony tail and hide her face a bit. I keep glancing over so I can get the outline done before she gets up. I start on the details and then she gets up. I was almost done! I hold back a slight groan and rub my face. I can't finnish since she moved. It's a pretty good drawing if I do say so myself. She comes to sit back down so I quickly flip back to the page with the chair designs so she doesn't see my drawing. She sits back down without a glance my way and pulls out a book. I turn back to the drawing and think of something to add. Her green eyes remind me of the tomato plant stems, so I draw some vines. And some flowers and leaves. By the time class is done, I'm almost finished with the sketch. I don't shade it, because I think I'm going to color it in at home. I got into art a few years back when I had a really awesome teacher. I never took another class, but I like to do it on my own, especially when it contains a pattern for shop class. I'm good with visuals like that. But people, that's what I enjoy the most. Especially when it's a beautiful girl named Katie Gardner who I haven't drawn yet. I put the drawing away so that Katie doesn't notice it, then I tap her shoulder. She turns around and I think quickly of what to say.
"Hey Katie, ready for ice cream?" Really Travis? That's the best you can come up with?
"Uhhh yeah. Just let me go get my jacket from my locker." She starts walking away, then realizes that I didn't follow. "You can come with me too, doofus."
"Hurtful!" I say as I walk up to her.
"So, where are we going?" she asks, ignoring my comment.
"Right now we're going to your locker." I point out. I look down to see her reaction, hoping I was able to pull a smile out. Or at least a smirk. She rolls her eyes, but I can tell that the corner's of her mouth are turned up a little. I smirk to myself.
"I know what you meant Katie-kat, I was just playing with you. But we're going to my favorite ice cream shop, it's in the next town over." She turns to look at me.
"Travis, you do know that we live in Lindsborg, Kansas right? The next town over, if I think you mean Salina, which is where there would be a bunch of shops and stuff, is 30 minutes from here! I don't wanna make you waste all that gas on me and then buy me ice cream!"
"Nah, I'm not driving." Haha! Point Travis! The look on her face is hilarious!
"You are Katie. I can't drive with my broken arm, even though I could, I shouldn't. You can drive my car though."
"Oh." She's quiet for a while, and then we get to her locker. She pulls some stuff out of it, and then shoves her backpack in.
"I guess that'll be alright. But Connor won't have a ride home? I'm sure he drove you this morning."
"Yeah, he did, but he's going over to his friend Matt's house."
"Ohhh, okay. I already told 'Randa she can drive the truck back. I'm thankful her birthday is early in the year. I mean she could take the bus, but then I'd have to leave the truck here, and then I'd have to drop you off and come back and get my car, and-"
"Katie-kat, you're rambling." I say in a sort of singsong voice. She gives me a little glare.
"Like you've never rambled before, in front of me." Point Katie. Score: tied.
"True, true. But seriously, if you don't want to drive, I can."
"Why can't we just go to Pastries by Rachel? It's right here in town and we could walk."
"Cause I promised I would take you to ice cream!"
"Yeah, but then you have to waste gas on me, and buy me food, and then we're not even a couple so you shouldn't be doing this for me, and-" I cut her off again.
"But you paid for my broken arm! So I will not be wasting gas on you, I will be repaying you back. So it's even. And yes, I know it's not a real date but my mother brought me up to be chivalrous and gentlemanlike."
"Pshh, you? Gentlemanlike? Yeah right."
"Again, hurtful!"
"Alright, you can take me out for ice cream. In Salina."
"Alright! I knew you'd let me." I smile at her, and I can tell she's trying to hide her own, but failing miserably. "Let me escort you to my car, milady." She rolls her eyes.
"Travis," she says as a warning.
"Okay, okay. I'll stop being gentlemanly." But that doesn't stop me from opening the driver's side door of my car for her.
The drive was pretty good, we didn't argue again, which was very good in my book. First date's aren't supposed to have arguments. Wait, this isn't a real date, just a friendly ice cream outing. We talk about extracurriculars for a while, then she talks about her job at the greenhouse and nursery, when she was still working there. The time passed pretty quickly, as she was a pretty good driver, and I started directing her to Freddy's. It's this cool retro ice cream and burger shop. I thought it would be fun. We get out and walk inside, and I instantly take her to my favorite booth.
"Oh, I've never been here before. It always seemed pretty cool though. 'Randa has been here with her friends and she said it was pretty cool." Okay, good. She hasn't been here before, this will be more fun for her then!
"Yeah, it's pretty cool. I usually go here with the guys, you know? It's like our place." Except only once in a while, cause we don't all have jobs and cars yet.
"Oh, I would have thought that you'd bring all your girlfriends here, if I assumed correctly. You know, seems like a first date type of place."
"Well, you assumed wrong. I've never been on a date with a girl before." My eyes widen after I say that. "Like, I mean, I just, I've never been on a date. Yet." Yikes, why am I so nervous!? Katie raises an eyebrow, a little smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"I can see that now Travis, but still, I'm a tad bit surprised."
"Again, hurtful! But yeah, all the ladies watch from the distance. Except for Emily." I see her coming over to the table and I wave as she comes over. Emily is 12 years older than me but we flirt as a joke, and we both know it. She works here at Freddy's, and the boys and I have all grown on her since we started coming here.
"Hey Travis, how's it going? Haven't seen you in a while. Wait, is this a date? Is Travis Stoll finally on a date?" Emily questions loudly. I chuckle a little, and I can feel my ears burning. Katie looks a little amused.
"No, sorry, this isn't a date. It's a… I'm not really sure what this is. Travis?" Katie asks. "A 'friends out for ice cream kinda thing,' right?" I smile and rub the back of my neck. She called me her friend! That's a start!
"Ahhh." says Emily, though her eyes show suspicion.
"What?" I ask accusingly. "It's not like you've never brought your "boyfriend" here before. Though I have seen you flirt with the customers before."
"That's cause I work here you doofus! And I don't flirt with customers who are 12 years younger than me Travis, even though they might flirt with me." She aims an accusing stare right back at me. This is not going that great, yet. Be optimistic Travis. I can feel my neck getting red nonetheless.
"Didn't you come over here for a reason, Emily?"
"Oh yea, but it doesn't seem like you want me anymore so, I'll just be going." She starts to walk away, but I stop her.
"Emily, you know I'm just playing with you, right? Can we have two of my favorite sundaes?"
"Oh alright Travis." She walks away as I turn to Katie. She has an amused smile on her face.
"I hope you don't mind me ordering for you, just that my favorite sundae is the best one in the world!"
"No, it's okay Travis. So you and Emily, huh?" She raises an eyebrow. She keeps doing that! And smirks.
"Yup, she loves me. We've been in love for four years now." I sigh dramatically and look off dreamily in the distance. She giggles a little bit, and oh my gosh it was so cute! I think I just keep getting redder.
"So, joking aside, you really never have been on a date before?" Hmm, I wonder why she's asking.
"Nope, I haven't. It's not much of a surprise, I'm not the type to go out and just get a girlfriend. I guess if I wanted one I would want it to be something real. I told you about my parents the other day, right?" She nods. "Well, I guess I'm just a bit scared that I'm gonna get my heart broken. My mom hasn't been the same since my dad left, which is why she's been in this weird funk. For like five years. So yeah, I haven't dated anybody." Because I've liked you this whole time. I'm not gonna say that though. It's really easy to talk about this with her.
"Oh. I kind of understand that. I had a boyfriend in middle school, but he wasn't really nice." She looks a bit sad now, but doesn't seem like she wants to talk about it more.
"Oh, well I hope you broke it off with him then if he wasn't nice." She nods. Okay, she really doesn't want to talk about it. I see Emily walking back with our sundaes.
"Here are your orders, my lovelies. Enjoy! And, Katie? Don't let Travis talk you to death, I know he does that sometimes." She smiles a little bit, and nods.
"Yeah, I've picked it up by now." she says.
"Alright, I'll let you get back to your 'not date'." Emily says.
"So…" Katie pulls one of the sundaes over to her. "What's in it?"
"Try it and you'll see how good it is! It's a double chocolate sundae with peanut butter and Oreos and a scoop of coffee ice cream on top." She picks at it with her spoon for a few seconds before looking up at me.
"How do you know I don't like chocolate?" Uh oh, that caught me off guard.
"Uhh, I don't know if you like it or not, I just thought you might cause you know, girls, chocolate…" I don't elaborate. Sometimes I have to pick up… certain items for mom, and it's super awkward. Usually with those items I have to get chocolate to make her feel better.
"Not all girls like chocolate Travis." she says with a straight face.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't think of that. Here, I'll just eat yours so we don't waste it, if you want." I start to reach over for hers but she stabs her spoon between grasping fingers. I pull my hand back, scared of a spoon. A spoon.
"I didn't say I didn't like chocolate Travis. Just that some girls don't like it." I looked up to see a smile on her face. "Plus, I don't think you need two sundaes, that's a lot of ice cream. Plus I don't want you to throw up on the drive home." She digs the spoon in and takes a giant bite.
"Katie you're gonna get a brain freeze if you take big bites like that." She swallows and then cocks her head.
"Well, you haven't met the Gardner ice-cream contest queen yet." She smirks again and I raise my eyebrows in question. "We have an ice cream eating contest on thanksgiving each year with my dad and sister, and I have won five years in a row! You have to eat the ice-cream as fast as possible to win, and if you succumb to the freeze, you lose."
"That sounds super fun! Do you wanna race it now?" I gesture to my sundae.
"Nah, this is too good to eat fast. Plus, I don't want you to feel bad when I beat you." This girl. This is just getting better and better. The rest of the time goes well, and we leave soon. The drive home is nice too. Katie is a really good driver, actually. Even for the first time driving my car, she's doing pretty good. She drives me home, and gets out of the car too.
"Where're you going?" I ask.
"I'm walking home. I do live in this neighborhood if you remember."
"Oh yeah. Well, thanks for letting me take you to ice cream. I guess I'll see you at school?" I hope I'll get to see her at school.
"Yeah, probably. Thanks for taking me, I guess. I mean I had a fun time and all, but I still feel sorry for your arm."
"Ehh, it's feeling fine right now." I walk to my door. "I'll see you Monday."
"Bye Travis." She waves and I go inside. Man, I think my crush grew a few sizes! It's crazy what getting to know a person will do to your feelings! But it feels pretty great. I can't wait for Monday now.
Wow that was a long chapter! But I didn't wanna split it up cause I like it all together. So, what do you think? I would love some reviews about what you think about it, even if you don't really like it, I'd love to have some feedback! Also, I think Travis and Katie are a little OOC, but again, let me know what you think about it. I actually did some research on google maps for the towns. The restaurant is actually real too! So if you live near Salina, Kansas, go check it out! I should be posting the next chapter soon, I hope y'all have a good week!
