Hey guys! I tried to get this out as fast as possible with finals. I decided that I am going to put 'Ivy' on hiatus for a while. I'm having some serious writers block on it, so I'll focus on this one for a while, hopefully until it's done. Anyway, enjoy!
Disclaimer: Even though I wish I owned the series, I sadly do not. My main characters belong to Uncle Rick.
Chapter 3: The Day They Make a Memory
Line Break
Katie's POV
Well, that was interesting. It wasn't bad though, it was actually pretty fun. Especially when Travis and that waitress Emily were, well, yeah they were flirting. Even if Travis said it wasn't. The rest of the time was good, it was nice to get to know him again after like six years, almost seven. If I'm being honest, I don't think he's changed that much since then. He still reminds me of the little kid who threw mud pies at me and ran around the park, even though he's changed a ton physically. I mean, he's slightly more mature than throwing mud pies around, I think. Maybe we'll have to hang out again so I can prove that to be true. Ooohh Katie, you really did have a good time! Next thing you know is that you two will be dating and then- Woah, hold your horses. I don't think so. This is Travis Stoll! Plus, what if something happens like the last time you dated a boy. Do you really want that to happen again? No, but Travis seems like a nice guy! That's what you thought about Brandon too! Don't get ahead of yourself Katie. Right. Now if they're done, I think I'll continue walking home. Thank goodness midterms are done. I can relax this weekend. I drop off my backpack in my room and change into my pjs, which in reality is just a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt from volleyball last year. I never made any friends on the team and I wasn't very good so I didn't try out this summer. But I still have the t-shirts. I have so many t-shirts, and I really need to go through them. I pop in Miranda's room and sit down on her bed.
"Hey, how was your date with Travis?" she asks from her desk. She's the artist in the family, so she's drawing something right now. I groan and lay back on her bed.
"It wasn't a date, it was him repaying me for me paying for his arm that I broke."
"Riiight. I'm surprised dad wasn't as mad as I thought he'd be. He was pretty chill about it." Yeah, he really was. It could have been because I took responsibility and stuff, but he seems like he has had a bunch of things on his mind lately.
"I think that's because, well, I don't really know. But the thing with Travis was good, I guess. I mean, it was fun, but it was weird since I haven't really talked with him since we were ten. Heck, I didn't even recognize him when we hit him! Like, we even have Calculus together! And lunch!"
"Well, you're a loner at lunch anyway so you probably didn't even realize. I go and talk to him and his friends everyday at lunch. And Connor."
"Oh please stop right there, I don't need to hear anything else about Connor. You talk about him all. The. Time."
"Well I'm sorry I have a crush on him okay? Now if you're gonna do nothing but sit there, please leave so I can draw in peace."
"Byeee." I call as I leave the room. I grab my book, phone, and headphones from my room and then head to the kitchens for a cookie. I really like to bake so I make a lot of cookies. After grabbing a few, I head down to the basement to my blanket fort to read for a while and listen to music. Yes, this is what I do in my free time. I read, and I eat.
About half an hour later, I get a text from a random number:
Hey Katie-kat. It's Travis. I got your number from Connor who got it from Miranda, just to let you know. Thanks for going out for ice cream with me, it was really fun! Maybe we could hang out again sometime, or somethin. Do you wanna play some gamepigeon? :D
Oh dear. I don't know about this. But I might just have to play some game pigeon, no one ever wants to play with me.
Sure Travis, I'll play game pigeon with you. Give me a bit and I'll get back to you about hanging out sometime.
I put my phone down and go back to reading. It's a really good book series, about Greek Mythology and stuff, and a demigod named Peter Johnson or something like that. I think it's like for fifth graders, but it's so good and I can't seem to put the books down! So yeah, I'm reading that. Travis texts back almost immediately and we play for a while. Mostly pool and darts, which I am really good at. An hour later I have to make dinner, so I say I have to go. He texts back really dramatically.
NOOOOO KATIE! DONT LEAVE ME BEHIND WITH CONNOR! I CANT STAND BEING ALONE!
Travis, stop being dramatic, I have to make dinner.
Ohhhh, can I have some?
Make your own dinner Travis, I have to go.
Okay Katie, I see what you mean. I'll just go now. :(
I don't respond back, because he's just being exasperating now.

"Hey Katie-kat, what's up?" Travis asks on Monday, sliding into the seat across from me at my lunch table.
"The ceiling, Travis."
"Katie-kat, really, we're friends now, right? Why so cold?" He starts eating his sandwich and I poke at my salad.
"Sure, we're friends. This is just how I am. Cold, in your words." He looks up at me, and I fight to hold a blush down. For some reason I get really uncomfortable when people look at me, when I know they're watching. Sure Katie, tell yourself that. I mean it's totally not like a hot guy is staring at you, right? Oh, I wouldn't call him hot, just a little cute, so no, it's not because a "hot"" guy is staring at me. I guess it's just because it's a guy in general.
"C'mon Katie, can't you see I'm trying to get to know you better? This is what friends do, you know."
"Well, I barely have any friends, I just keep to my books, so how should I know?" I'm really not in the mood to talk to anyone right now. "I haven't really had any friends since middle school, since the thing happened." A concerned look comes over his face. Oh how I loathe that look. It makes me feel weak.
"Ohhh. Why?" Ugh, why does he have to ask so many questions? Oh well, if I at least want this friendship a little bit, I should share some things about myself.
"Well, he told everyone I was a lying cheating female dog and all that crap. No one from middle school ever comes up to me anymore, only kids from the other middle schools who didn't hear about it." I pick at my salad a little more before actually taking a bite. I look up at him and he looks mad for some reason.
"Who is this guy and why did he do it? Does he still go to school here?"
"Why do you need to- oh never mind. Yeah, he does. He's a grade above us. I'll tell you why when I feel more comfortable, okay? Right now, well, I just don't want to."
"Can you tell me his name?"
"Travis, please stop asking questions about this. This whole situation was already taken care of years ago and I don't want anything brought up again. Can we play twenty questions again?" I need him to change the subject, so twenty questions is a good idea.
"Fine. I'll start. What's your favorite fruit?" I raise my eyebrows as I stuff my mouth with salad.
"I think it would have to be apples, because they go good with salads and then with peanut butter. What's you favorite fruit?"
"I'd have to say pomegranate, I found it at the store one day and it is really good!
"Oh yeah, I've had it before. It is good. Next question?" He thinks for a minute then perks up.
"You said you keep to your books, what's your favorite?"
"Ooh you hit a sweet spot. I don't have a favorite because I like a ton of them. Though if I had to choose, it would be Harry Potter or another good book series. Do you have a favorite book?"
"Yeah." That's a surprise. "I think it would be the, well, I have a favorite but it's kind of embarrassing."
"Oh? Well, you have to answer because it's twenty questions." I say with raised eyebrows and a smirk. He smirks back.
"Okay, here goes nothing." He leans across the table and gestures for me to do the same. He blushes a little bit before he swallows. "It's, umm, The Fault in Our Stars." My eyes widen. I did not take him as a John Green fan. That is a very big surprise.
"Katie, say something please?" All of a sudden, I burst out laughing. Full on laughing. Slapping the table laughing. I thought that was a girl's favorite, I had never met a guy who liked it, let alone enough to be their favorite book. His face gets really red, and I have to admit, it's really cute. Just like on Friday when he was flirting with the waitress. He rubs the back of his neck and gives me a nervous smile.
I smile while I say, "Never took you as a John Green fan. Thought you might be more into something like the Maze Runner Series, which is at least in a guys perspective!" I start laughing again and almost fall off my seat. He covers his face with his hands and moans.
"Katie, people are gonna start coming over here and asking what's wrong with you." I just keep laughing.
"Nope, this is hilarious! You like a sad romance book! I mean, I love it too, I'm a sucker for sad stuff, but still." I cross my arms over my stomach, which hurts from laughing so hard. He takes his hands off his face, which is still very red and very cute.
"I know, it's really embarrassing, but I just sat at the library one day and picked random books out of the shelf, reading the beginning to see if they were good and then taking the good ones home. I had no idea it was gonna make me cry!" He slaps a hand over his mouth. I start dying of laughter again and he looks mortified. "I wasn't supposed to say that!"
"Well, ya did! You cried!"
"Katie, please stop now! This is so embarrassing!"
"When was this?" I have to know when, that's the most important part.
"Uhh. well, it was about the middle of summer." He looks down sheepishly again. My mouth drops open.
"Have you watched the movie yet?" I skip over the recent reading thing, he's had enough embarrassment already. He shakes his head.
"I wasn't planning on it because the book was too sad." I nod. I can't help but smile cause he still has a cute blush on his face.
"I haven't either, wanna watch it together? We can watch it at my house." Woah, where did that come from? Well, I guess it's too late to take it back, this could be fun. He looks at me suspiciously.
"Are you sure? Do you just wanna see me cry?"
"No, I'm serious, like Miranda doesn't wanna watch it so I have no one to watch it with." He considers it for a few minutes while he finishes his sandwich.
"Sure. Maybe we could do Friday again?"
"Yeah. This is becoming a weekly thing, isn't it? Two Fridays ago, I hit you, and then last Friday we got ice cream, and now we're gonna watch a movie."
"Yeah, I guess it is." He smiles, the blush finally starting to go away. Darn. "Hey, we never finished twenty questions! It's your turn."
"Oh yeah, well, what's the most embarrassing mom- Oops, we better pack up." The bell rang and we got our stuff ready to go.
"We'll have to finish tomorrow then." He picks up his things and starts walking away.
"Bye Travis!" I call out. He doesn't turn around again. I leave the cafeteria in a much better mood than I came in.
