Cold. That was all he'd ever known for more than a century. Cold and deep, dark blackness. Occasionally, he saw a purple swirl here and there. They were very few, and very far spaced.
Emotions? Only one. Hate. Hate and anger. Both directed to the one who had trapped him here.
He could still see his captor's face. The unique eyes and quills. A muted color, yet bright in other places. That smirk. The smirk who had told him his name.
He vowed to get revenge on that person.
But how?
At that very moment he thought that, he felt a strong surge in his chest. If he had one. He was a shapeless husk at the moment.
His other was calling.
If he had a mouth, he would have grinned with poor angry joy. Finally. He could sense it. In a matter of seconds, minutes, days, or weeks, he would be free.
Out of curiosity, he concentrated. He wanted to see the one who would set him free in a stupid manner. The person who would not know who he was dealing with.
An angry monster.
A face floated up before him. He was silent for a moment, and then he burst out laughing, his voice cracking from over a century's disuse.
"Him?" he choked out. "He is the one who will set me free?"
He cackled again. "He must have thought I'm not a threat...at least, not anymore. How foolish!"
The call grew louder, and more desperate. His other also wanted to be free.
If he could have stood up, he would have. "Do not worry, my brother!" he called out to nothing, not knowing if his other could hear him. "We will soon be free...both of us. And we will punish the ones responsible for our imprisonment!"
The call stopped. He was heard.
He now truly grinned. "Soon, brother...very soon indeed...the whole world will know our names. And when they hear them, they will cower in fear."
He turned to the face of the hedgehog again, laughing madly. The face, once looking alive, turned pale and gray in death.
To be continued...
