FosterForLife: HA XD

Enjoy, everyone!

Adrien looked out of the car window, staring at the sky.

"So...tomorrow's the first day of work for the yearbook committee." Kagami began. Adrien stiffened. He knew exactly what Kagami was going to ask.

"I can't." Adrien blurted out suddenly, keeping his eyes fixated on a small stain on the glass.

'"Why not?" Kagami crossed her arms from the seat beside him.

"I...I'm working with someone else. We can be a group of three if you want."

"I thought you said it would just be us. Together. Working on the same project."

Adrien didn't dare shift his gaze from the stain. He didn't want to make eye contact with Kagami.

She's disappointed in me. Adrien thought guiltily. But then again, who wouldn't be?

"Is it a girl?"

"What?"

"You heard me." Kagami snapped.

"Yes..." Adrien said slowly. Before Kagami had the chance to reply, he quickly added, "She's just a friend, if that's where you're going with this."

"Just a friend? Must be some important friend if you'd ditch me to be with her."

"She's just a good friend, okay?! And I'm not 'being with' anyone. You make it sound like Marinette and I are a couple. We're not. We're anything but a couple."

Marinette hates me anyways. And now, Kagami probably hates me too.

Well, at least he'd make amends with one person.

The rest of the drive to school was silent.

Adrien hopped off, closing the car door behind him. He gave a quick nod to his bodyguard, heading off towards the school with Kagami trailing behind him.

"Hey Adrien!" Nino waved at him.

"Hey." Adrien brightened, waving back, glad to see him.

"Oh, about what Alya said-"

"No, it's fine, I'll make it up to Marinette. Somehow."

Nino smiled nervously, "Greaaaaat..."

"Welp. Bye." Adrien said, entering the building just as the bell rang.

"Wow, you should keep track of all your girlfriends before you accidentally lose one." Plagg joked from above his shoulder, "How many do you have again? Oh that's right, like 3 million of them. Only 3 million."

Adrien didn't even respond to that, throwing his backpack in his locker and rushing to class.

"I'm going to be late!"

"Good for you." Plagg muttered sarcastically.

He burst through the door.

Ms. Bustier was taking attendance, "Adrien Agreste?"

"I'm...here..." Adrien panted, hands on his knees. He sat down in his seat next to Nino, who had (somehow) arrived before him.

"Adrien, we have a new seating chart. Your new seat is next to Marinette." Nino told him.

Lila, who had, unsurprisingly, been eavesdropping on them, gasped, "OH NO MY TINNITUS IS BACK AAAAAH MARINETTE CAN WE SWITCH SPOTS PLEASE?!"

"Lila, you can sit in the other front row next to Rose." Ms. Bustier instructed, pointing her pen to a spot to the right of the classroom.

Lila grumbled something but sat down next to Rose. Adrien got up, avoiding all the people looking at him and whispering now, thanks to Lila, and sat down next to Marinette.

"Hi." Adrien said.

Marinette looked up at him shyly, "H-hi." She stuttered. How was she supposed to get any work done like this? She would be too busy obsessing over Adrien to get anything done...

Adrien mumbled, "You know, you don't have to pretend like you like me. I know that you hate me."

"What?! Me?! Lo- I mean like- you?! Ha, no way, hehehe." Marinette gave a lopsided grin. Adrien looked down at his feet as realization dawned on Marinette.

"I didn't mean it like that! Look, whatever Alya and Nino told you-"

"I know I messed something up. But I'll fix it. You're my friend Marinette, and I wouldn't want to let you down."

"Yeah. I'm...just your friend." Marinette echoed numbly.

(After school)

Adrien waited outside the school building.

"Ugh, I wonder what happened. Nathalie usually isn't so late at picking me up."

"Maybe she decided she had better things to do." Plagg said.

"No. Maybe she's doing some work for my dad or something. I guess I'll just walk home. Oh well, at least the weather's sorta nice, despite the fog." As soon as he said that, it started pouring outside. He must have been the luckiest person alive.

"..." Plagg looked at his owner, wide-eyed.

"Never mind."

"Adrien! What are you doing out here?" Marinette walked over to him.

"Oh I...I was just gonna walk home..."

Marinette raised an eyebrow, "In weather this? I mean- in this weather?"

Adrien shrugged.

"You...I...we could walk home if you wanted to." Marinette suggested. She added, "I have a large umbrella that'll fit us both."

Adrien felt a pang of guilt after what she said.

Marinette's trying hard to be friends again...even though she hates me...I should try harder...

"Okay." Adrien agreed quietly. Marinette opened the umbrella with her right hand, holding it over their heads. "Let's go."

"Marinette...I'm sorry for whatever I did."

Marinette laughed, "It's not your fault, Adrien. Plus, I guess we're just meant to be...friends."

The blonde-haired boy followed her, confused.

Marinette held Adrien's hand with the hand that wasn't holding the umbrella.

Adrien blinked, surprised.

"So we don't get lost." Marinette explained quickly.

"O-oh." Adrien blushed. Thankfully, Marinette was too busy focusing ahead, so she didn't see him.

(Time skip)

"We're here." Marinette announced, staring at the gates of the Agreste mansion.

"Will you be able to go home yourself?"

"Yeah, plus I can just call Luka to pick me up."

"Right...well...bye." Adrien said.

(In Adrien's room)

"What was that about?" Plagg asked, sitting on Adrien's desk.

"Nothing, I was just surprised when she held my hand." Adrien responded, doodling inside his notebook, "She's trying to be nice to me, even though she really hates me, which means-"

Plagg cut him off, deadpanning, "-which means that you need to be the best Adrien Agreste you can be so that Marinette will like you again. You've said it a 50 times."

"I didn't say it 50 times! You're exaggerating."

"You actually said it 54 times, not 50. I've been counting."

"Why am I not surprised?" Adrien shook his head disapprovingly. His eyes landed on his ring, he stared at it, a lightbulb going off in his mind.

"What are you thinking of now?! This sappy junk is getting on my nerves. I need camembert!" Plagg howled.

"Of course! Marinette might not like Adrien, buuut she likes Chat Noir! I can use Chat Noir to figure out what Adrien did wrong!" Adrien was making this much more complicated than it needed to be.

Plagg face-pawed, "Oh boy."
