Secrets, Lies, and Everything Else Chapter 4: "A Talk With Chat"

Welp...

...hi.

So usually I'd put the review responses here...

...but there ain't no reviews.

So uh-

I have nothing to respond to.

I'm just gonna start lol XD

Enjoy! :3

Luka halted to a stop on his bike. By this time, it had stopped raining.

"What's on your mind?" He asked, taking his helmet off.

"What?" Luka's voice snapped Marinette back to reality. Luka and Marinette had decided to bike home together after Marinette had taken Adrien home.

"You're clearly distracted. You're thinking about something, aren't you?"

Marinette told him, "I'm always thinking about something. Everyone is."

"You know what I mean."

Marinette sighed, taking off her helmet and handing it to Luka.

"It's not about you."

"I know it's not about me. You would have told me if it was about me. I'm guessing it's about Adrien?."

Marinette nodded.

"Marinette, you should tell him how you feel."

"No! I'm not ready yet-"

Luka crossed his arms, "When will you be ready?! 200 years from now?!"

"...good point. Still. I'd tell him if he felt the same about him, but it's just so frustrating, Luka! I'm sick and tired of pretending that I'm 'just his friend.'"

"you'll never know how he'll react if you don't tell him."

"Yeah, which is exactly the reason why I won't tell him. How do I know it's not a bad reaction?"

"You don't. But, you can't say that you didn't try that way."

"I am trying, Luka! But every time I see him, something inside of me just...stops working!"

Luka raised an eyebrow.

"What I mean is, my words get all mixed up and I start to stammer like crazy and I- I mess everything up."

"Of course don't mess up everyth-"

"Yes, I do! You know that I do. You're just trying to say that to me to make me feel better. Well, stop, okay, because it's not making me feel better at all!" She got off the bike and ran to the bakery, which was right in front of them. She shut the front door, running upstairs.

"Marinette! Weren't you a bit rude to Luka? It wasn't even his fault."

"I know, I shouldn't have done that. See Tikki? This is just proof that I'm no good."

"Don't talk like that Marinette, you're amazing."

"If you mean amazing at being a klutz, then yep." Marinette had walked into her room, and then went to her balcony. She stared outside blankly, sadly tracing an outline on the railing with her finger.

"Hi."

Marinette's gaze shifted to where Chat Noir was perched on the railing.

"Chat? How did you get here?!"

Chat jumped down from the railing, "Climbing like us purrrfect kitties like to do."

"Why are you here?!"

"Welp, I saw my purrincess feline sad so I wanted to come and see how everything was going."

"How many cat puns do you know?" Marinette's tone had a hint of annoyance in it, however, you could tell she was just teasing.

"You interested?" Chat flashed an ever so charming grin.

"Yes-" Marinette's eyes widened as Chat struck a pose. She deadpanned, "I meant interested in the puns, not you."

Chat deflated.

Marinette rolled her eyes skyward, "Silly kitty."

"You're hiss-terical."

Marinette laughed. Only Chat could cheer her up after...

Marinette's face fell.

"What's wrong?" Chat seemed to have caught onto this.

"I've just been having a bad day. I'm glad you're here though."

Chat studied her. No stuttering, and she definitely didn't look nervous. Whatever she seemed to have against Adrien, she certainly didn't have against Chat. He wanted to ask her about Adrien, but it would seem kinda odd to bring it up randomly. Maybe he would later.

"You can tell me what's wrong. I won't tell anyone."

"No, it's just...how do you always do that to Ladybug?"

"Do what?"

"Say that you love her. Aren't you scared that she'll reject you?"

"She's already rejected me several times. But who knows, maybe one day she'll understand." Chat shrugged, resting his arms on the railing.

Marinette went silent. Could she bear the thought of Adrien rejecting her?

"Why? Have someone on your mind?"

Marinette reddened, "What, of course not!"

"Oooooo! Marinette has a cruuush!"

Marinette tucked a strand of hair back shyly, "Hey! I don't tease you about Ladybug."

"Fair enough."

"So, who's the lucky guy?"

"It's...it doesn't matter who he is anyways. He has a girlfriend already."

"Oh. That sucks." Chat said bluntly.

"Yeah." Marinette agreed awkwardly.

"I wonder if Ladybug has a boyfriend in real life. You know, when she's not a superhero."

Marinette didn't respond to that. She obviously wasn't going to tell him about Luka.

Chat continued, "I wonder what she's like when she's not a superhero. I know we aren't supposed to know each other's identities, but I still think about it all the time."

Chat felt something warm press against him, then noticed that Marinette had hugged him.

"Thanks for cheering me up, Kitty."

Surprised, Chat hugged back.

"Don't mention it."

Chat's ring started beeping.

"I should probably get going."

"Bye!"

"Bye, purrincess." Chat waved, leaping onto the trellis and climbing down.

"So that's how he gets up here." Tikki appeared beside her.

Marinette stared after him, "Hey, has it ever occurred to you how much Adrien and Chat look alike. The green eyes, the blond hair..."

Tikki's eyes widened.

"Of course, they're totally different from each other."

Tikki let out a sigh of relief.

A moment of silence passed before Marrinette spoke, "Do you think Luka's mad with me?"

"No, I'm sure he understands. Come on, let's do your homework..."

;.;.;.;.;.;. ❤️ ADRIEN ❤️ .;.;.;.;.;.;

(Slight time skip to when Adrien arrives at the mansion)

"Ugh, I was so close to figuring out why she doesn't like me!" Adrien shut the door behind him.

"By 'so close', I'm guessing you mean not at all. You didn't even mention Adrien once." The black-furred kwami hovered above his head.

"I was planning to being it up...it just...didn't seem like the right time." Adrien sighed.

"BEEP BEEP BEEP! AKUMA ALERT AKUMA ALERT!" His phone screeched.

"We'll discuss Marinette later. But right now, Paris needs us. Plagg, claws-"

"I wasn't done eating yet-"

"Plagg claws ou-!"

"Just one more minute-"

"PLAGG, CLAWS OUT!" Adrien finally transformed, drowning out Plagg's protests. He looked outside, spotting a huge sentimonster in the shape of a golem. Climbing out the window, he spotted Ladybug fighting the golem.

"Better get to work..."

I decided to squeeze in a small MariChat chapter here to help with the Adrienette development. ^u^
