It's been a few months since Clarke had left camp Jaha and found Madi. Clarke had given Madi her name after a week of being with the baby and felt bad not knowing what to call her. Madi was about 4 months old now and was always laughing. She really likes berries and so Clarke was currently picking some out for her.
Clarke had made a baby strap to make it easier to carry Madi while she went on walks. Obviously having a child and taking care of one was making it harder to hunt and keep them both fed, so Clarke had made a new friend, Niylah.
Niylah owns a trading post about a few miles from their "home". One day, Clarke had been struggling to get food for herself with Madi always scaring away the animals by laughing or crying. She came across the trading post and decided to go in. It didn't take long for Niylah and Clarke to become friends….maybe a little more than that.
Clarke would often leave Madi with Niylah so she could go hunt and bring back the meat to trade for things she or Madi needed.
The blonde was on her way to see Niylah this wonderful afternoon as she was running low on supplies for Madi. She was already out growing the clothes that Clarke had got her about 2 weeks ago.
Clarke walks into the post. "Hey. How's it going?" Niylah comes out from behind the counter to greet them. "Oh! Hi. I was not expecting you or the little one to stop by today." Niylah reaches over to pull Madi out of the strap. "Yeah. Well this little miss is getting too big for her clothes." Clarke sits down on the chair by the door and sets down the strap and the bag she carried for Madi. "Already? Hmm. Well it's a good thing I started collecting more for her after you guys left the last time. I'll go grab it and you guys can be on your way."
Clarke took Madi from Niylah, "you know I can't just let you give me the stuff right?" "Clarke it's fine. I don't mind. It's for the baby." Clarke sighs and stands up to walk over to Niylah and places her hand on Niylah's cheek. "We have been through this. We are all trying to survive. I'm not going to let you give me something for free. If you can watch little miss, then I can go hunt to pay you for the items."
Niylah gave Clarke a smirk and said, "there's other ways you can pay me you know." She leans in to give Clarke a kiss on the cheek. She blushes and pulls away, "Niylah...we agreed not to continue doing this. It's wrong for me to give you sex for items. Plus, I kind of just wanted alone time for a little bit. Please just watch her and I'll be back as soon as I can."
Niylah stepped away from Clarke with a sad look. "Fine. Go. I'll watch Madi. I don't ever mind watching her. She's just too cute. Just don't take too long. My father said he would be back maybe tonight, but knowing him, he probably won't come back until tomorrow. We can never be too sure though." Clarke smiles at Niylah and goes to kiss Madi on the forehead, "I'll be back in a bit ok Madi. Be good for Niylah." She turns to Niylah, "I really appreciate everything you've done for us. I'm not sure how we would have survived without you." She gives her a kiss on the cheek and heads over to the bag to grab her gear. "I won't be long. I promise."Niylah smiles and waves goodbye to Clarke and she sits down behind the counter with Madi, "it's just you and me kid. Knowing your mom, it'll be a few hours before she actually comes back."
—
It had been almost 2 hour and Clarke had gotten nothing. She's seen a few rabbits and birds, but that wouldn't be enough. She wanted to get enough to pay Niylah and also to have some for herself.
Clarke was about to call it quits when she came across a deer. She had learned to walk quietly so as to not startle the prey. She crouched down behind a tree and waited for the moment to attack.
Just as she was getting up to attack, a panther attacked her from behind. She screams out in pain, scaring away the deer and kicks the panther off.
She rolls away and gets back. The blonde stares at the panther. Blue eyes meet green, both knowing that only one can survive.
—
Niylah hears noise outside. It sounds like someone in pain and struggling. She picks Madi up and takes her in the room to place her in the crib. Once she knows Madi is safe, she grabs her sword and walks slowly to the door.
She quietly and slowly opens the door and makes her way out, checking her surroundings. She hears something to her right so she gets down and moves closer.
Just as she's about to attack, Clarke comes out of the clearing with the panther. "Relax it's just me. Come help me get this thing in."
Niylah rushes over to Clarke and together they bring the panther inside. "That's a nice catch you got there." Once Clarke lays the panther down, she straightens up and winces in pain. "Yeah. Almost cost me my life. I was not planning to catch it." "Let me take care of that before they become infected. Come. I'll do it in the room. Madi is asleep, so you have to be quiet." She helps Clarke get up and they both go into the room, but not before Niylah grabs a few medical supplies and herbs.
"Ok. Sit on the bed. I'll get everything together." Clarke sighed as she sat on the bed and took off her shirt. After a few moments, Niylah came to clean up her wounds.
They stayed silent for awhile and Niylah only spoke when she was about to finish, "I've been thinking…." Clarke turned her head a little to look at her. "Yeah..?" "It doesn't seem right that you should be staying in a cave with Madi. It's very unsafe for a child to be out there. I wanted to propose to you to stay here. With me. I doubt my father would mind and when he's here you can always go on walks with Madi. He travels so much that he won't even notice."
Clarke was now able to fully turn around and look a Niylah right in her eyes. She took Niylah hands in hers and said, "Listen, I understand where you're coming from. I want nothing more than to give Madi the perfect life. I know it's not safe out there for her, but I also don't think it's safe in here for us either. People know who I am. I may not know what's going on in terms of political things right now, but I know that I'm still hated by so many people. I can't risk them coming here and harming you or Madi. I really appreciate the offer, but I think it's best that we only come visit when we need supplies."
Niylah nods her head in defeat and knows that Clarke is right. "I just wish I could help you out more. I-..." They were interrupted by someone entering the shop. "Stay here. I'll go check." Clarke nodded and threw her shirt back on. She stayed hidden when Niylah opened the door to her room to head out.
Niylah smiles at the new customer. She had never seen him before. "Hello. What can I do for you?" He hands her a piece of paper. She examines it and it has Clarke's face on it with a reward. She tries really hard to keep her emotions in check and looks back up at the warrior, who seemed to be from Azgeda. "Have you seen this woman?", he said in a very angry tone. "No. I'm not sure I know who this Wanheda is, but I can assure you I've never seen her come through here."
He studies her closely and then looks around the room for any clues. "Mind if I check the back. Nothing personal. Just have to make sure." He starts walking towards the door and she steps in front of him, "Actually, I do mind. My child is in there asleep and unless you want to help me put her back to sleep, I suggest you not go in there. She's a light sleeper."
He looks at her again. Studying her face for any lies. He doesn't seem sold by it, but decides to retreat anyway. "Fine. I know nothing about children, so it's best I go then. If you see her, keep her here. I will be returning in a week. Maybe we can do some kind of trade." Niylah went to give him the paper back. "Keep it. So you don't forget what she looks like." He smiled at her and left the post.
After she was sure he left, she went back into her room where Clarke was pacing. She had heard everything. Niylah shows her the paper, "I'm sorry I put you in this situation Niylah. I should go." Niylah stops her from going to grab Madi, "No. He could still be out there. I don't think he was convinced that I had no idea who you were. Just stay here tonight and in the morning you can leave ok. Let's just...go to bed ok. It's late and I want him to believe that there is nothing going on here in case he's still around." Clarke nodded and sighed as she laid down with Niylah.
"Thanks for everything you do. I don't think Madi and I would have made it this long without you." Clarke turns to kiss Niylah, which she happily accepts. Things start to get heated pretty quickly and Clarke pulls away, "Madi is here….I don't wanna wake her." "Then we will just have to be quiet." Clarke smirks at Niylah as she begins to undress her.

Later in the night and almost morning, Clarke knows that Niylah is fully asleep. She made sure to tire her out earlier. She gently gets up from the bed and heads over to pack her things for herself and Madi. She grabs the supplies as well before she puts her baby strap on and grabs Madi. Madi stirs a little, but soon smells Clarke and decides to just go back to sleep.
Clarke smiled at her and headed outside. She's almost out of the clearing when behind her she hears someone pull their sword. "Don't run and I will not harm you. And don't even think about making a move." Clarke stays still as she sees the man come to face her, "Wanheda. You're coming with me."
