Molly pulls her dark blue coat more tightly around and tries to blow some warmth into her hands as she paces up and down the platform of the train station. A whistle sounds behind her and she spins back around to see the train pulling into view a ways down the track. Her eyes light up and she bounces on the toes of her feet in excitement. The train comes to a stop and passengers begin to disembark. She cranes her neck over the growing crowd trying to spot a glimpse of familiar strawberry blonde hair and finally after watching half the passengers exit she sees her best mate for the first time in over a year.
Katie Anderson steps off the train gripping the strap of her Bergen tightly in her hand as she sweeps her gaze over the platform in search of her mate.
"Katie over here!" Molly calls out and waves her arm over her head to draw her attention. Katie's head snaps in her direction at the sound of voice and a bright smile blossoms over her face as her blue eyes meet Molly's green eyes. Katie quickly pushes her way through the crowd to her spot.
"Molly Dawes, you are a sight for sore eyes. I've missed you girlie!" Katie exclaims as she shifts her Bergen to the side and pulls the smaller girl into a hug.
Molly returns her hug with just as much enthusiasm. A year is just too long to go without seeing your best mate. "I missed you too! How was the train ride?" Molly asks as they step back from the hug and begin walking through packed crowds.
"Ugh, awful." Katie groaned. "I was trying to go over my interview notes and make sure I had all my paper work filled out properly, but the annoying sleaze ball seated next to me made that nearly impossible. He kept trying to feel me up. After I told him several times to keep his hands to himself and respect my personal space, he pushed things too far by trying the whole yawn, stretch, and place his arm around me routine. I had finally had enough so I 'accidently' jerked an elbow toward his nose hard enough to cause a crack and a gush of blood. After that he made quite an effort to keep to himself."
"Good for you, girl!" Molly exclaims as she raises her hand for a high five. "He deserved a busted nose after pulling a move like that." Molly says as they settle in a cab and drive away from the station. "So what time is your interview?"
"1400 hours." Katie replies. "I know this interview will be a piece of cake compared to all the things we went through in training and on tour, but I'm still nervous. I really want to make a good impression and get this job."
"Don't worry, mate, you've got this. You're a fantastic nurse and you're going to get the job." Molly assures her mate and gives her hand a comforting squeeze.
"Oh, I wish Katie was here already. I'm so excited to introduce her to you all." Molly exclaims sitting at their usual table in the back of the pub with Matthew, Luke, and Kara.
"We can clearly see that, Dawsey. You look like the energizer bunny over there buzzing around with all that excitement. You're gonna fall out of the chair if you keep craning your neck like that." Luke warns as he watches her crazy antics from across the table.
Sure enough Molly leans a little too far to the left and almost slides out of her seat. Matthew reaches out and pulls her upright, then keeps a steadying arm around her. "Careful there Dawes, it would put a damper on the evening if you injure yourself trying to spot her." Molly sticks her tongue out at him for the reprimand, but then she leans over to kiss him sweetly in thanks for steadying her.
Luke takes some peanuts from the bowl on the table and throws them at the couple to break up the sickeningly sweet scene. "Ugh, break it up, lovebirds." Kara scoots her chair away from Luke as Matthew turns away from Molly to glare at his best mate and throws the peanuts back at him making one bounce off his forehead.
"There's no need to resort to throwing things, Lukey! We know you're just jealous!" Molly teases as she goes back to watching the door.
"Don't worry, Molly. We have a good view of the door. You won't miss Katie's entrance." Kara assures her.
"You're right. It's just been so long since we've really been able to hang out and I miss her. I've been having best mate withdrawals." She says with a laugh. "Hopefully she'll get the nursing position she applied for at Royal Surrey County Hospital. Then we'll finally both have steady jobs and we'll no longer have to schedule our time together around our various deployments." Molly says.
"Katie, we're over here!" Molly calls out suddenly as she sees her best mate enter the crowded pub.
The strawberry blonde beauty makes her way to them in an emerald green sweater, black jeans, and stylish black boots. Luke eyes widen as he takes her in and he quickly straightens up in his chair and puts on his most charming smile. "Hey I'm sorry for keeping you all waiting." Kara says with an apologetic smile.
"It's no problem. Now tell us did you get the job?"
"Well... you are looking at the newest nurse at Royal Surrey County Hospital!" Katie exclaims happily. Molly jumps up from her seat and pulls her into a hug as the others offer their congratulations.
"That's fantastic! I knew you would get it!" Molly says as she takes her seat back at Matthew's side and Katie settles into the chair on her other side.
Finally remembering the rest of her friends Molly begins the introductions. "Katie Anderson this is Kara Wilson and Luke Norris. And I assume you remember our old section commander and now my boyfriend Matthew Geddings." Molly introduces.
"Yes, I remember. Hello Sergeant Geddings. It's great to see you again and I must say it's about time that you made a move on our dear Molly. I mean I could see the spark between you two all the way back in basic training."
Matthew smiles brightly. "It's wonderful to see you again Katie and please feel free to call me Matt all my friends do! I'm glad you approve of Molly and I's relationship. It has been a long time coming."
"It's so lovely to meet you, Kara." Katie says as she shakes Kara's hand. "Molly said you helped her feel you've been a great friend to her the last few weeks. Thanks for showing her the ropes. You really made her transition to an instructor so much easier. " Kara blushes at the praise and just gives Molly a bright smile of appreciation.
"I'm hurt, Dawesy! You didn't tell her about what a great friend I've been?" Luke interjects with a playful pout.
"Don't worry." Kara says with a twinkle in her eye. "She made sure to tell me all about the kind, handsome, and chivalrous section commander that she works with."
Luke's eyes light up at the description. "Thanks for talking me up so well, Dawsey!"
"She also said you're bit of a goofball." Katie adds with a laugh.
Luke shrugs sightly in agreement. "Well she's right there too. I am always good for a laugh."
"I'm very happy to meet you too." Kara breaks in. "Molly's shared so very entertaining stories about your friendship. It's great to finally meet the best mate she's talked so much about."
"Uh oh, hopefully it wasn't anything too bad."
"Nothing bad, just badass! I want to hear you version of the story about you breaking that stalker guy's arm in a nightclub bathroom." Matthew says leaning forward on the table in anticipation.
"Well..." Katie starts.
