Perfect- Ed Sheeran

Harvey didn't know when this became a thing for them. He swears he never danced before Mike came into his life. That isn't a romantic statement, it's just a fact.

Harvey finds himself pulled onto the dance floor by Mike about a month after their vacation at a charity event the firm is hosting. Harvey knows the song is played for the couples of the room. The moment he heard the opening notes of 'perfect' he honestly scoffed internally and made fun of the fact that the DJ would play such a cliche song but Mike was exactly the type of person it was played for and there was no getting out of this dance. As much as he liked to put on a persona, especially at work, he had no ability to make fun of the situation unfolding. Mike had his arms wrapped around his neck with his head resting on top of them. His lips were right next to his ear singing it quietly as the speakers reverberated each word. Mike has sang this song a few times around the house. In the shower, while cooking, while folding laundry. It never quite gave him butterflies like it does as Mike pulls him closer and sings the song a little louder into his ear as they sway back and forth without a care in the world at that fundraiser.

Harvey made his way back to the bar multiple times during the event, happy to supply his better half with another drink as he sweated out the one he was currently taking the final sips of on the dance floor. It still surprised him how much Mike loved to dance in front of everyone at the firm. He had no inhibitions and when Mike and Rachel got a hold of each other there was no escape from the center of the room for the pair. They edged each other into more ludicrous dances as the night went on as less people remained to observe their childish behavior. Still, it wasn't that late yet. It was only his fourth trip to the bar to refill their drinks when Harvey felt the hand on his back as he leaned his weight on the bar waiting for the bartender to finish mixing Mike's drink. He smiled to his better half beside him. "I can't believe Rachel actually let you off of the dance floor." He said it with a smirk knowing just how much Mike was actually to blame for the fact that the two of them didn't stop once they got started. "Sorry I got a bit distracted by some hottie at the bar." He said it with a nonchalant smirk and Harvey wanted to laugh but the air was out of his lungs and he was a little awestruck at his boyfriend's words. Mike took full advantage of the moment and leaned in close like before and whispered in his ear, "I found a love for me. Darling just dive right in, follow my lead. I found a man, beautiful and sweet. I never knew you were the someone waiting for me." Before Harvey even had a chance to recover Mike grabbed his glass as the bartender set it down and winked as he pushed away from the bar-top and Harvey, and swayed back to Rachel.

Harvey has since switched to water for himself, making his last rounds of the night and chatting with one particular client he was an old acquaintance of. Mike pushed his way into the space a minute ago, just taking in the conversation. His friend turned to talk to his wife and in the lull Mike leaned up into his ear "I will not give you up this time. Darling just kiss me slow. Your heart is all I own and in your eyes you're holding mine." He walked away before his buddy was even finished with his conversation. He couldn't help the cold chill that ran over his body after the quick kiss placed under his ear. He watched his partner push away and sway across the room past Donna, saying something quick to make her throw her head back and laugh as he meandered toward the dance floor once again.

Finally the goodbyes were worn out and they sat back in silence as the cab took them home for the night. His attention wasn't on anything in particular. He kept his eyes on the buildings as they passed, his hand locked in Mike's, just enjoying the wind-down after a long night. He felt Mike shift and expected him to rest his head against his shoulder but instead he heard the quiet words whispered into his ear. "When you said you looked a mess I whispered underneath my breath and you heard it, darling you look perfect tonight." He chuckled and placed a kiss on Mike's forehead as he laid his head against his shoulder and got comfortable for the dozen remaining minutes of the drive home.

When they made it into their place Harvey knew Mike would dart straight for their room, eager to undress and hop in the shower but he stopped him with a gentle tug on his arm. Mike faced back into him in the entrance way with the silent question on his face. He just pulled out his phone and pressed play, putting his plan into motion. He could feel Mike laugh against him as the familiar song played from the speaker in his back pocket but he held the younger man closer and continued to dance through the beginning verse.

"Well I found a man, stronger than anyone I know. He shares my dreams I hope that someday I share his home." His grinning from ear to ear singing in Mike's ear. He was so blessed that this year had brought them under the same roof and he knew he wanted it forever. Mike was his one true love and he wasn't letting that slip from his hands. He kept dancing as the song played on but internally he was beginning to feel the nerves as the songs final notes played through the speakers. He gently untangled himself from Mike and looked into his eyes as he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the ring he's had ready for months now. "Michael, I love everything about you and I can't imagine this life without you. I'm so lucky to have you. Will you please do me the honor of becoming my husband?" Mike had tears in his eyes as he barely got out a yes and pulled Harvey up to his feet with his hands framing his face and a deep kiss to his lips. Everything was perfect.

Even After a few rounds of celebration and showers, Mike and Harvey still had too much adrenaline in their veins to properly drift off to sleep but Harvey could not care less as he heard his man softly humming the song that had been stuck in his head all night. He pulled Mike closer and just enjoyed everything this life had given him so far and he looked out at the city lights from his favorite spot slotted up beside his partner under the covers.
