Since Ash declared that he will face the winner of this year's Alolan League II; word spread quickly and the top trainers, rivals, and friends head to the Alolan Islands for perhaps the biggest tournament ever. Plus we'll see how Ash's friends will do, prior to the tournament. Plus you'll will find out, what a certain lilac-haired maiden will do on her first days in Alola. This is the Third Pokémon story Arc after Ash Alolan Family Surprise and the original Kukui and Burnet: Without Ash.
As the sun rises in Alola, a lilac haired maiden gets up; as she would see the beautiful sunrise. She smiled as she would think to herself. "No wonder why Ash loves it here. It's so beautiful, words cannot describe it." As she was taken by the beauty of the morning, on Melemele Island; she would hear a familiar voice to get her out of that moment. "Annie, time for breakfast!" She blinked as she realized today was her first official day in Alola. "Coming dad!" She stretched out, as she would head to the bathroom to freshen up. About ten minutes later she would come down in a white shirt and a lilac floral ruffle hem skirt. Along with her attire was a special z-ring with a Psychium-Z crystal; and a purple fanny pack for her stuff. She would see her dad Casin, drinking a cup of coffee; while having a stack of papers. "Good morning dad, busy with work?" He smiled, as he was wearing a floral shirt and tan khaki shorts. He came up to hug his daughter. "Of course, just finalizing my work for Aether Paradise tomorrow." She smiled, but would hear another person pouting. "You mean our research love." Anabel glance over at Professor Ivy; wearing her lab coat. But also revealing her navy blue one piece swimsuit. "Good morning mom. (She blinked and forgot as she saw her dad chuckle.) Dad!" Ivy smiled as she would hug Anabel. "A bit early for that, though I might not be, if he doesn't play nice." Ivy smirked as she was always teasing him. Casin smiled as he would kiss on Ivy's cheek gently. "I am a nice fella Miss Ivy." Anabel couldn't believe these two; and maybe she could be right, by calling Ivy mom. "So what is on the agenda for me today?" She asked as she would sit down by the kitchen table. There was a spread of fruits and croissants. Along with some veggie fruit juice mixture.
Casin smiled as he would look at his baby. "Well Annie, your day is to just explore Alola. Understand what the island and what the Pokémon look like." She blinked as she was curious about the Pokémon. "I know that there are new Pokémon on this island. But what to expect when I look?" He smirked and poked her nose gently. "That's why you'll have to find out. (He chuckled lightly) Don't worry, that's the fun part of learning from your own surroundings. (He smirked as he had a grin on his face.) Besides, your boyfriend had to learn from the start; and so can you." Anabel blushed as Ivy giggled at this daddy, daughter moment. "Alright dad, but I'm going to give it my all out there! (He smiled as he hands his daughter a photo.) Who is he?" Casin smiled and answered. "If you get a chance to see that man; he's Hala. He's one of the four Kahunas and would give you more info on your z-ring." She nods, but had a question about her z-ring. "Do you know much about this ring?" He looks at it and nods. Other than its intense power and potential; lies tradition and promise. If anyone knows it would be him." He knew of the z-ring quite well; but wanted his baby to find out for herself. She nods as she was given a Pokédex and a few Pokéballs by Ivy. "Anabel I hope these will help. You'll find that the Pokédex will help you with the Pokémon that you'll see." Anabel smiled and accepted them. "Thanks Ivy. But I already have three Pokémon; what if I catch at least 4 or more?" Casin would chime in. Don't worry Annie, this happy little home doubles as a Pokémon lab. So your extra Pokémon would be transferred here. I have a few already. But been so busy that..." Ivy would nuzzle him gently. "Don't worry Anabel, we'll make sure that your Pokémon are kept safe." Anabel giggled, seeing her dad squirm. "Alright you two. I think you two have "work" to do; and I have to get going." She would head out the front door, while taking her lavender backpack. As Casin saw her leave, he couldn't help still see her as her little baby. "I'm off to school mom and dad! I'm going to play with Pokémon!" Ivy saw that look from him, and would hug him gently. "She's growing up fast. And one day, you'll be walking down the aisle with her. (She smiled but saw him chuckle.) Hey! What's so funny?" Casin smiled as he would kiss her cheek gently. "Oh nothing, mommy" Ivy fumed as she couldn't believe him. But had to admit, he might be right about their relationship.
As Anabel starts on her day, she would just look around and saw the island. She thought to herself just exploring the island. "Mom and dad told me the island is to soak in. They were right about that. Yet I have to remember why I'm here. I want that rematch with by Ashy. And no one is going to stop me on that." Her train of thought stops, when she gasped and saw a very tall Pokémon. "Exeggutor!" She gasped at the long pine tree Pokémon. She pulled out her Pokédex and scans it. The Pokédex would respond: Exeggutor, the coconut Pokémon. A grass and dragon type. People in Alola glee with pride, that this is Exeggutor's true form; thanks to the regions pristine environment. As it grew taller and taller, it outgrew its reliance on psychic powers, while within it awakened the power of the sleeping dragon. (Pokewiki) She nods and realized what dad meant about the slight differences. "Hello Exeggutor! How are you?" The Alolan Exeggutor smiled, but his tail looked at her with a huff. She looked at the tail and smiled. "You must be the dragon part of Exeggutor. I guess I shouldn't come close right?" The tail looked over at her, before kissing her cheek gently. She giggled as Exeggutor would soon head on out. "Exeggutor!" She waved to Exeggutor before heading to the shops.
Once she was at the market; she gasped at all of the shops and fresh fruits and vegetables. As she admired the shops, she noticed a dancing Pokémon by the berry shop. "It looks like a cheerleader, cheering on the visitors." She smiled as she pulled out her Pokédex. Oricorio, Pom-Pom Style. The Dancing Pokémon. An Electric and Flying type. It creates electricity by rubbing its pom-poms together. Then it dances as it approaches its opponent before attacking. (Pokewiki) She smiled as she moved in closer and the Pokémon started to dance for her. She smiled as she started to join in. Everyone started to notice the young trainer and the Oricorio dancing; and were intrigued by the show. As both Anabel and Oricorio finished their dancing; they were greeted by cheers as they didn't expect a crowd to be watching. "Thank you very much." Anabel smiled and waved to the crowd. Oricorio waved as well as she waved her wings out of joy. "Well I never expect the day to be quite entertaining." An elderly lady, wearing a pink shirt, a red coral necklace, and an magenta skirt; smiled as she walks up to the young lady. "Never knew you were a dancer." She giggled, seeing the young lass blush a bit. "I didn't either. Just was at awe with your Pokémon and." Anabel replied as the elderly lady smiled. "Tell me, are you here for the Alolan league?" Anabel nods and replies. "I am. Though I am as they say a Magikarp out of water." The elderly lady smiled as she knew that reference. "Well I say you are fitting right at home. (Through all of the conversation, she forgot to introduce herself.) By the way, I'm Anela, the shopkeeper here." Anabel smiled and introduced herself. "Nice to meet you. My name is Anabel." Anela smiled as she heard the name from before. "Ah, Anabel. Now I remember, your dad was bragging about the kids and (She giggles and smiles) oh your father would tell stories." Anabel thought to herself. "Oh great, I hope he doesn't mention about me and you know who." Anela smiled and offers her a tiny basket of mixed berries. "I'm sure they will be a great help to you on your journey." Anabel smiled and was about to grab the money from her fanny pack; to pay for the basket. But saw Anela shake her head no. "I can't just take the basket without paying." Anela nods and gives her the basket. "Think of it as payment for entertaining the crowd earlier." Anabel nods and accepts. "Thank you very much.
But I'm wondering (She would show her a picture.) Do you know where Hala is?" Angela giggled as she pointed in that direction. Anabel turned around and saw a stocky old man; who has white hair tied in a ponytail; as well as white eyebrows and moustache. He is wearing a blue shirt under his yellow jacket with a flower pattern, a shirt tied in a knot over a red and white fan. He also wears white shorts and white/blue flip-flops. In addition, Hala has squinty eyes. She was surprised to see him out in the open like this. "Hello Hala, I meant Alola to you." She was almost star struggled to see one of the Kahunas. In addition, he was quite the friendly type. He looked at her and saw that z-ring and nods. "So Tapu Koko gave you that z-ring as well?" Anabel shook her head no. "It wasn't Tapu Koko; but the Pokémon that gave me this ring; wanted me to be stronger before capturing it." He nods as he thought it was Tapu Koko. However he had no clue who gave her the z-ring. "Well I don't know the Pokémon that you're referring to. But I can teach you on how your z-ring works." She was intrigued and soon would follow him back to his home.
Once they arrived at his home, Anabel looked around and saw tradition in his happy home. Hala would offer her a seat, as she would do so; while taking one of the berries and having a nice little snack. He would bring some juice over and place it on the table. As he would sit across from her; he smiled seeing the maiden. "I never thought I would meet the champion's girlfriend here in Alola." He chuckled as Anabel blushed at that comment. She would compose herself and reply. "Does everyone know? I don't want to compete thinking that I have an advantage with him as my boyfriend." He nods as she was quite modest about keeping that relationship hidden. "Only a few people so far. But I doubt that would be a concern. (She breathed a sigh of relief) Considering how many people will enter the Alolan League, I think your reputation alone will have the trainers going after you." She smiled as she realized she forgot her status as an frontier brain. Plus she wanted to be on equal footing with the others. "So how did you know about me and Ash?" He chuckled as he would pull out a photo from his wallet. "Well a certain Alolan mom couldn't wait to brag about her son. (Anabel thought to herself: "And I thought my parents were braggers. Ash's moms would beat them in a heartbeat.") I've never seen Burnet so happy that I couldn't help but to hug her." She nods as she would agree. "I was there when it happened. I couldn't help but shed tears when she made that declaration." He nods as he was curious as well. "About Ash, what made you decide to pursue him? (He chuckled) I do apologize if I'm prying. Burnet only showed me the pictures of the two of you." She couldn't believe this would happen. But had to bite the bullet before everyone knows about her relationship. "It all stated at the Battle Frontier. I can't say why, but when I met him; I think the terms love at first sight would be the correct way of putting it. (She laughed at herself as she was supposed to be training and not think about Ash. But here she is talking about her lover.) All I could say in the short terms is that I'm glad things work out."
He nods as he would get up and grabs something from behind the photos on another desk. "Well Anabel, ready to know what you're wielding?" She nods "Absolutely!" He would head back out and would soon take a deep breath. "What you're holding is a key of tradition and lore. Trainers who wield z-rings hold the responsibility to keeping Pokémon and the the islands safe. It's not a tool to be taken lightly. It's power alone can overwhelm and could cause destruction if not utilized properly. (Anabel nods as she could feel his energy all over.) Now Anabel, time to show you its power! (He tosses his pokeball in the air.) Hariyama I choose You!" She would see his Hariyama and knew the Pokémon well. Considering that her friend Greta has one too. "So Hala, what happens now?" Hala looked at her and smiled as he would answer her. "Just watch and stand back. (She nods as she would step back. He would take another deep breath as his z-ring glowed with an Fightinium-Z crystal.) My precious Melemele Island and the guardian deity Tapu Koko, share your will with the island kahuna! (Both make their fighting poses and both start to glow. Anabel was at awe by this power.) Now, let us combine all our strength. Use All Out Pummeling!" Anabel saw Hariyama launch giant fists towards the water as she saw the power of that z-move in full display.
Once finished, Hala and Hariyama took a deep breath; and turned to her. She looked at them wide eyed. "I never knew how much power comes from one ring. The movements, the precision of the technique, it's just awe-inspiring to say the least." Hala smiled as he would come up to her. "What you just say is just a fraction of its power. But you must remember that z-moves are not to take lightly. You must be prepared to handle the responsibilities of it." She nods as she can't wait to get started. "Tell me, do you know what my z-crystal can do?" He looks over at the crystal and would chuckle. "Well Anabel, you have an Psychium-Z crystal. This would allow a psychic type Pokémon to use Shattered Psyche." Anabel nods as she looks at the crystal. "Can you teach me this move?" He chuckled as that was clearly out of his expertise. "I can teach you the form. But using the move, you'll have to learn on your own." She nods, but had one more question. "How can one truly use a z-move? Are there requirements to use the z-move?" He smiled as that was the question she needed to ask. "Before you can use your z-crystal and z-move; you must first pass an island trial." She nods and asked "Where can I participate in an island trial?" He would look at her and replies. "It can be anywhere at anytime Anabel. No island trial is ever the same. And you have to remember in Alola, you are never alone. That is your first clue in taking on the island trial." She knew there would be steps for the z-ring; and that was one of them. She took a deep breath and smiled. "Well if my boyfriend can handle the trials of Alola; so can I!" Hala chuckled as he couldn't believe her moxie. "I guess his enthusiasm has rubbed off onto you. (He smiled, but would take a few steps back) But I hope you're ready for it all!" She nods, as she would see him perform the pose for the psychic z-move. It wasn't going to be hard to be in sync with her Pokémon. But this was still a new place. And apparently someone, or something is watching from the water.
Meanwhile at Professor Oak's laboratory, Ash was just finished showing the professor his Gigantamax form. In this case a Giant Gengar which looked quite differently from its original form. Samuel smiled as he looked up and saw a Pokémon of incredible heights. "I'm surprised that a Pokémon can change and become a new form. Let alone have this form outside of Galar." Ash nods as his Gengar returned to his "normal" size. "Yea, my buddy Pikachu can become a giant as well." Pikachu nods while on Ash's shoulder. While Samuel seemed to be impressed, Gary looked to be preoccupied; which wasn't like Gary. Ash looked at Gary as he knew something was off about him. "You okay Gary? You seem to be lost in thought." Gary couldn't believe that Ash caught on quickly; and had to come up with an lie fast. "Oh just thinking on what to do back at the lab." Ash nods as he and Pikachu would chase after Gengar. Samuel would come up to his grandson; and knew what he was thinking about. "You know you can do both; right Gary?" Gary looked shocked at that statement. "I thought you would be proud of me transitioning into a researcher." Samuel nods "Of course I am Gary. But I don't want you to just toss out your dreams as well. (He chuckled as he was getting ready for one of his poems.)

Gary face palmed as he realized what grandpa meant. In addition, he forgot there was another professor that has done twice as much and then some. "I guess you saw right through me, huh gramps?" Samuel chuckled and pats Gary's back. "Oh just a certain researcher noticed how amped you were; when you saw Ash at the elite 8 tournament." Gary blinked as he tried to figure out who told his grandpa. "Who did? And why?" Gramps chuckled and answers. "Your girlfriend Danika" Gary blushed as he was surprised by that answer. "Gramps, she's not my girlfriend! And besides why would she call you about me?" Gramps chuckled as he couldn't help himself. "Well she wanted to know how great of a trainer you are. And wants to know when will you be competing again." Gary couldn't believe she would ask about him. And wants to see him out there on the battlefield. "I don't know when the Alolan league will take place. And who will be competing?" Gramps nods and points to Ash. "Just ask the current champ; I'm sure he'll be glad to see you out there as well." Gary nods, but shook his head no. "After telling him last year I was happy as a researcher? I doubt he believe me then." Gramps pats his back and smirks. "Second guessing yourself? Now this isn't the grandson I know." It was a gentle jab but made a good point. Gary fumed as he shrugs that off. "Alright gramps! You got me, gotta find him first though."
A couple of minutes later, Gary found Ash with his Pokémon by the lake. He rushed over before getting splashed by Corphish. "Ack!" Ash had to chuckle as he didn't expect to see Gary. "Sorry Gary, Corphish was having fun with Gengar." Gary looked at Ash and smiled. But had to swallow his pride and had to ask him. "Say Ash, I do have to ask you something." Ash looked at Gary and was concerned. "Sure Gary, what's up?" Before Gary could ask, Samuel would appear, riding a Tauros. "Whoa there!" Gary turned around and couldn't believe his grandpa. "Gramps, what's the emergency?" Samuel smiled and pointed to Ash. "Phone call from Alola Ash." Ash blinked as he couldn't believe that he would get a call from Alola; And thought something was wrong. Ash would receive the video phone and smiled as he saw Professor Kukui. "Hi dad!" Samuel was shocked that Ash would say Dad without cringing. Kukui would smile and answer. "Hi son, How are you doing?" Ash replies "Just fine. Was showing Professor Oak and Gary my Gigantamax form of Gengar." Kukui nods as he would scratch his head. "I'm wondering if you head to Alola quickly? Seems the media wants to do some interviews with you; and I need some help in preparing for the Alolan league." Ash smiled as he was looking for someone else. "Is mom and Lei there?" Kukui smiled as he knew Burnet would be all over the phone. And Lei would want to see his big brother. "Sorry, but both are at Aether Paradise. (He chuckled) But don't worry, they will be happy to see you home soon." Ash smiled as he knew he couldn't stay here long. "Alright Dad, I'll be in Alola tomorrow." Kukui smiled "Travel safe son."
The call ends as Pikachu would be on Ash's head. "Pika Pika" Ash nods and replies "That's right, were heading to Alola Tomorrow. (Then he realized something) Oh my, I have to call mom to tell her the good news. Sorry Professor I have to..." Samuel chuckled as he would make the call. "Don't worry, I'm sure she was probably wondering when will you head out." Ash as he would see his mom Delia on the other line. "Hi mom, I have good news, I'm heading to Alola tomorrow to help prepare for the Alolan League." Delia smiled as she couldn't help but giggle. "I had a feeling, because Burnet called a minute ago." Ash was in shock "She did? I just spoke to Kukui and..." Delia giggled and replied "Well, apparently she was wondering when her baby was heading back to Alola? My son is going to be on Alolan TV!" Ash was a bit embarrassed but smiled. "I'll head on home to get ready." Delia smiled and replied. "Don't worry, I'll make sure to pack plenty of you know what (underwear)." Ash chuckled as he knew what she meant. "Love you mom, bye bye!" Gary couldn't believe what he was hearing: Ash was going to be on TV, and has parents? Before he can take it all in; Ash would call back his Pokémon; and call out one. "Dragonite, I choose you!" His Dragonite would come out and would hug Ash. Ash hugged back as he would look at his dragon. "Want to head home to see mom? (Dragonite smiled as Ash would get on his back) Pikachu, hold on now!" Pikachu nods as Dragonite would fly on out of the laboratory as Samuel and Gary would see Ash off. Gary would look on and clench his fist. "Gramps?" Samuel smiled, seeing his grandson with that fire once again. "I have your stuff ready. I'm assuming you'll be taking Ash to the airport?" Gary nods as he wanted to give Ash a big surprise.
It was around 5pm In the afternoon, Delia was going to preparing her son's luggage for his trip to Alola tomorrow. She felt comfortable knowing that her son was in good hands. Although she never thought that her baby would be this popular. Not only winning a league championship; but gaining a new family and girlfriend to boot. Also will be on TV as well. Although it will be less hectic without her son; she knew he had to leave to promote the Alola League. Plus he'll likely be training for his exhibition match to come. But when she came to his room; she saw him already packed up.
"Ash, you packed already?" He smiled as he hugged his mom. "I sure did. I couldn't wait knowing the tournament was right around the corner. Plus I have to help my dad set up for this year's league." She smiled as she noticed her son didn't wince or shy away; when anyone mentions the word dad. "You said dad, didn't you Ash?" He blinked and realized what he said and nods. "I guess you're right mom. Though, I just wonder why he (referring to his real father) would still leave us like that?" She nods as she would hug him gently. "I know why, but even if I told you; you want to hear from the Pontya's mouth, right? (He nods as that was the one thing that bothered him the most of all. But after experiencing from Anabel's family; he's learning to move forward.) Well Ash, I will say that I thank you most of all." He blinked as he smiled. "Of course mom. (He noticed his mom shedding tears; and naturally was concerned.) But why are you crying?" She wiped her face and had to tell him the truth. The truth about the letter; and what she nearly did in the bathroom on that day. It was only fair, since she told Burnet and Kukui prior to being guardians to her son.
When Ash heard what his mom said; he couldn't believe that he was in the right place at the right time. He took a deep breath, composed his emotions, and soon hugs her. "I'm glad I have you mom. I'll be careful out there." She nods, but pinches his cheeks gently. "I know son, but remember to change your "you know what". And no chasing your girlfriend around." She smirked, seeing his face turn red. "Mom! I'm not going to see Anabel like that. Besides, I'm sure she's training for the league as well." She giggled as she teased him one more time. "Just promise not to propose to her right away. Even though you'll be a part of her brother's wedding." He couldn't help but shy away, envisioning of Anabel in a wedding dress. Delia would head downstairs, giggling as she would head to the kitchen to make some dinner.
About an hour later, there was a knock on the door; Ash would answer the door and it would be Gary. He and Pikachu were surprised to see him wearing; his old school long-sleeved purple shirt, dark blue pants, brown boots, and with his green and yellow Ying-Yang necklace. "Gary?" Gary smiled as he would look at a stunned Ash. "Ready to go Ashy boy?" Ash could only tell from his attire that he was also putting declaring his intensions on entering the league. "Yes I am Gary. Though I didn't expect you to be your old self." He chuckled as Gary saw Delia and waved to her. Though Gary had to pull a few punches in. "Well last time you faced me was a fluke. I won't make the same mistakes when I face you again." Ash smiled as he knew Gary was playing. But knew he was not going to hold back either. He would hug his mom one last time as she would hug back. "Call me when you get there. And tell them I said hello." Ash smiled and nods. "I will mom." He would grab his suitcases and head on out with Gary.
Once in the jeep, the two would head out on the road towards the airport. During the drive, Ash had to ask the obvious. "So Gary, what made you decide to go to Alola?" Gary nods as he had told Ash last year he was happy being a professor. "Well Ash, to be honest, I'm glad to be a researcher. Researching Pokémon and the world that we live in. But to be honest, I was jealous. Seeing you surpass me not only in our last battle. But to see you now as a league champion. And not to mention seeing you in Galar; making your way in the final four. I said to myself I can't let Ashy boy get the better of me." Ash chuckled as he had a feeling that Gary missed the rush of Pokémon battling. "You know the field will be stacked this year." Gary smiled as he was full of confidence. "No worries Ash. Besides you know I'll give it my all. Plus I want the exhibition match to be an all Pallet Town showdown!" Ash nods but had to ask. "Are the cheerleaders coming as well?" Gary couldn't believe that out of him. "Not this time. My focus is to win the league. Take no chances on getting distracted." Ash thought to himself, while hearing Gary. "Man, and I thought Paul was all in on winning. This league is getting crazier by the minute."
As the sun starts to set in Alola; Anabel is walking home, enjoying the weather. As she had a good first day of not only learning about the Pokémon of Alola; but of its traditional ways as well. As she is about to head to her home; she turned around and spots an unique Pokémon. "Well well, looks like you were the one following me home." She noticed a very colorful fish Pokémon, a Bruxish. This Pokémon is covered in colorful scales and fins. The front of its body is light blue with large, dark purple lips and a mouth full of sharp teeth. The upper half of its body is mostly light purple, while the lower half is mostly yellow. The purple portion of its body is dotted with light blue spots. The yellow underside extends up around its eyes, which are light purple with light blue pupils. Its eyelids are dark purple with long, light blue eyelashes. Its fins are all dark purple, light blue, or a combination of the two colors: the pectoral fins are mostly dark purple with a short line blue line along the bottom, the dorsal fin is light blue, the ventral fin is dark purple, and the tail fin is dark purple with a light blue, heart-shaped marking in the middle. Anabel pulled out her Pokédex as she thought to herself. "This Pokémon looks promising." The Pokédex would give her the answer. Bruxish, the Gnash Teeth Pokémon. A Water and Psychic type. When the appendage on its head radiates psychic power, it gives off the sound of grinding teeth. (Bulbapedia) Anabel was impressed as she couldn't believe a psychic Pokémon would be interested in her. She moved in closer as she would look into in her eyes. "You want to get to know me?" Bruxish nods as she would kiss her cheek; causing Anabel to giggle. "Alright, looks like you win." She pulled out her pokeball and gently taps Bruxish with it. The Pokémon would be in the ball and in a matter of seconds; there would be a clicking sound, and she would pick up the pokeball. "I caught my first Alolan Pokémon! (She smiled and tossed the pokeball in the air.) Bruxish, my new friend, come on out!" Bruxish came out and went in the water. Soon she would splash Anabel. "Hey!" She giggled as she would splash Bruxish back. But their fun would be interrupted by a familiar voice. "Annie, come on in, dinner is ready!" Anabel heard her father and would look at her Bruxish. "Alright my friend, we'll play later." Bruxish nods as Anabel returns her to her pokeball, before rushing to her father. Casin saw her daughter soaking wet and chuckled. "First Pokémon sweetie?" Anabel knew her father wasn't psychic. But can't believe how good he would figure things out. "I sure did dad. But how did you know?" He chuckled as he poked her nose gently.
