Blinders Off

Chapter 3

Author's Note : To all my readers thank you for enjoying and coming along on this new Brucas journey. Review!

"We should stop by the cafe. I know you haven't eaten anything since you woke up and from the bags under you're eyes you haven't slept either. I'm not trying to critize. I'm pointing out how i've been acting the last few days leading up to this one." Lucas stated

"I'm not putting up a fight. Breakfast or lunch sounds good." Brooke replied.

Lucas nodded his head turned from her. As the two got into their seperate cars and drove towards the same place.

Once they got through the doors.

Karen engulfed them both in hugs that lasted longer then normal.

"Sit wherever you like. It's on the house whatever the two of you order." Karen announced.

The two swallowed hard nodding their heads as they made their way to the back of the resturant. Choosing a booth in the back. Not wanting to draw attention to themselves.

Brooke ordered the first thing she saw. Lucas ordered the appetizer.

The two stared out at the water. Then at each other. Not saying knowing what the other was thinking without having to say a word.

When the food eventually came they ate and put their focus and energy on discussing anything else but what they wanted to talk about.

Brooke and Lucas both ordered a cupcake with a lit candle on top.

When it arrived they closed their eyes and quietly made wishes on their son's birthday. Knowing it was for themselves and that it oddly gave comfort in a way they couldn't describe.

...

Brooke turned around and stared at herself in the wedding dress store mirror. Putting her hands on her belly.

6 months into her pregnancy now. Her and Lucas wanted to get married and settled into their new home before the baby was born.

"Victoria and Ted will lose their minds when they find out that i got married. It's enough of a scarlett letter that i'm pregnant and in love with a boy they hate."

"Then again i might as well keep my reputation of being a disappointment going. They've grown used to it." Brooke proclaimed.

Haley. Peyton. And Rachel laughed as they walked over to where she was standing.

"You almost make me want to get married." Rachel said.

"You are the most beautiful bride. I knew you would be." Peyton said.

"To my soon to be sister in law." Haley stated. Lifting her glass. As she handed off the rest of glasses containing sparkling cider.

...

Awhile Later

Brooke finished off the rest of her wine. And felt her heart sink at the memory. Staring down at her empty ring finger. Tears filling her eyes as she left the kitchen and went up the stairs.

...

The Scott Home

Lucas stared around at the empty room. He never stepped foot in anyway. It brought on too many many feelings he was trying to avoid.

"They consider this house home. The boys have made such improvements. Their birth mom can see for herself that this is where they belong."

"I had the adoption papers drawn up. The four of us will become a family." Brooke proclaimed.

The ringing of his cellphone brought Lucas back to reality. It was their social worker. Informing them if the boys bio mom signed over her parental rights which would give them the freedom to adopt the elementary school boys.

When the call eventually ended. Lucas thanked her for everything she had done and looked to Brooke.

"She isn't signing the papers she refuses to let them go." Lucas revealed.

Brooke fell into his arms clinging to him. Her sobs filling the room.

This was a breaking point between them. The marriage was unable to survive.
