Chapter 5
Author's Note : To all my readers. Thank you. I loved every bit of this chapter. Review!
Brooke closed and locked the front door after he had entered the home. The two walked through the entryway together and looked to each other once they got to the living room.
"You're thinking about him too right.?" Lucas asked. Already knowing the answer. At the sight of 9 candles lit on th coffee table in the otherwise dark room.
"Yeah. From the minute i opened my eyes. I just couldn't stop myself from picturing him and allowing myself to envision what he would be like now." Brooke replied.
"I've been doing the same thing. It's impossible not. I'm just grateful that Nathan and Haley understand why the days leading up to today and the following few days after. We need space from their kids." Lucas stated.
Brooke wrapped arms around herself. "We love our god children. We celebrate holidays and their birthday as a huge group. But in the back of my mind i can't allow myself to enjoy those events the way you should." She proclaimed.
"The triplets and Marc were born days apart. Everyone was so happy and excited when they found out he was born. Telling them what happened. Was one of the most difficult moments of my life."
"Besides telling you. And the funeral." Lucas said.
Brooke sighed deeply. "What do you think he would of been like.?" She asked. Entering the living room. As she turned on the fireplace.
"I don't let myself go there. It's too hard. Knowing nothing will come from it. But the re occuring reminder that he isn't here." Lucas answered. He looked at the expression on her face.
And read it easily. She needed this. For him to be with her. In synch with positive thoughts about their son.
"If we're going to get into this. We need to prepare ourselves." Lucas said.
"I got chicken parmesan and red wine. Ready to devoured in the kitchen. We spend this day together every year." Brooke replied.
"Sit down try to relax. I'll get it." Lucas said.
Brooke didn't try to join him and just sat down. On the biggest living chair in her living room.
When Lucas got back. He set down the bottle of alcohol and the large tray with the plates of food on there.
"Love doesn't really need words. You told me that when i was having a breakdown at the airport after giving back Angie. I was in tears admitted that i never told her i loved her. You said she could feel it. Sense it. Did you mean that.?" Brooke asked.
Lucas was taken aback by the questioning but was curious with where it was leading.
"I spoke from my heart. Love can be expressed in alot of being upfront about doesn't. Actions matter just as much as words if not more." Lucas replied.
Brooke hesitated wanting to say more. But stopped herself.
"We should eat before the food get's cold." She said.
Lucas nodded his agreement. As he poured wine into both glasses.
Awhile Later
The chicken parmesan on their plates was eaten and the wine bottle. Was half empty.
"He would of been full of personality. Strength. And he would of had you're heart." Lucas stated.
"Our son would of been honest. Insightful. And have the unwavering love and loyalty to family and friends like you do." Brooke replied.
"Do you ever wish you could go back. Start over. Choose a different path.?" Lucas asked.
"No. I wouldn't take it back. I don't regret a second of the life we shared. I just wish we hadn't lost each other along the way." Brooke replied.
Lucas swallowed hard. "It's late. We had this emotional day. We've been drinking. I should go. Walk home. The cool night air will help clear my head.
Brooke got from where she was seated. Staring hard at him.
"I thought the whole point of this. Us spending this day and the days following together was to keep each going. Support the other through pain no one else understood. Which means. Instead of going home to an empty house you could just stay with me." Brooke declared.
"You're drunk. Let's get you to bed." Lucas stated.
"I'm not drunk. I'm alive with personality and sparkle!" Brooke corrected him.
Lucas wrapped his arms around her. Picking her up.
Brooke clung to him. Giggling and smiling playfully.
"You are so strong. You haven't had me in you're arms like this since our honeymoon." Brooke proclaimed.
...
Brooke clutched one of the few pillows on her bed.
As she laid her head down.
Lucas took off her shoes. Put pain relief medication and a glass of water on the nigh table by the bed.
He leaned over moving the stray hair from her eyes.
"What happened to us.? Why don't you love me anymore.?" Brooke asked. Her voice thick with emotion. Her words slurring as she looked to him.
"Alot happened. But that never changed for a second how much i love you. Then or now." Lucas said.
"I love you too." Brooke replied. As her eyes closed and she fell asleep.
Lucas spent the remainder of the night at the edge of the bed. Watching her sleep.
Knowing she wouldn't remember anything tomorrow.
