The Heiress Black Chapter 2

It was chaos. The platform had been covered in pranks, all time-delayed, ready to begin five minutes prior to the train's arrival. Fred and George brought out the best of their pranks, the ones not yet for sale and various tricks the duo had learned over the years were all ready for their part of Operation: Escape of the Golden Girl-Chaos time.

Some of the pranks had never been out of the Room of Requirement since they were created, the Twins deciding they were not friendly enough for the average customer. Those pranks, edging on the side of cruel, were inspired primarily from the Marauder's Journal: Prongs' Pages, and Fred had chosen to release the worst of them on the "guards" picking up Jade that day.

At precisely four fifty-two, the pranks began to go off. George had released a hoard of the Decoy Detonators while Fred lobbed a Portable Swamp into the crowded Platform. A dozen meters down from the Swamp, the Snowstorm in a Bottle exploded, burying people in a mound of snow. As the train pulled in and the students began exiting the train, the pranks carefully laid by Padma and Luna were released.

As the students disembarked, Fred couldn't help but laugh at the sight of the usually composed Purebloods. From neon hair and crazy hair styles, to colorful skin and charmed clothes into various costumes, the students certainly looked unusual. He was extremely glad there were enchanted cameras floating around to show his family and friends later.

George, joined by his older brother Charlie at the gateway to the Mundane side, had the anti-dotes for the pranks. As he spotted Jade slipping away from the crowd, he flicked a few fireworks in the air, the signal they had established to end the cacophony.

While the reactions from the crowd at the station varied from amusement to frustration, onlookers were shocked at how the students seemed resigned to the pranks, not angry or upset. Since the Great Escape of The Twins, pranks had reigned rampant in the corridors; most students no longer even registered that they were pranked anymore. To be honest, the students of Gryffindor were even anticipating the next prank to be performed.

To the side of the Platform stood the surprisingly stoic Neville Longbottom. After that night at the Department of Mysteries, he had stopped hiding in the shadows, choosing to become the distraction to assist in his godsister's escape from Hell. He had received a letter from the bank that morning requesting his presence regarding his family's estate. Neville knew it was time, he had completed his OWL exams and it was his duty to all the Longbottom's that came before him to claim the Lordship as his father had been declared incompetent by the Wizengamot.

It was a Tradition that where a Potter was, a Longbottom was by their side.

Despite not being a true Potter, and knowing how Jade hated James Potter, Neville chose to stand by her regardless of the status of the Potter Family. He knew Jade had arranged the destruction of the Potter Family Legacy since she had discovered her identity as a Black and Neville was resolved to be at the side of his chosen sister.

The diaries of Alice Longbottom and Lily Evans-Potter proved they had suspected something regarding Jade, but were unable to do anything officially. The only way to protect 'Rosie' from any contracts was to ritually bond her with Neville as siblings; the bond would prevent anyone from creating any form of contract without the permission of the Longbottoms if the worst happened to Lily. Frank and Alice truly loved the young girl, and were preparing to claim parental rights when Lily was disposed of by James.

As both Lily and James had died when the cottage had been attacked, and Rosie disappeared before their bodies were even cold, Frank immediately went to the Ministry to claim custody while they tracked her down. Hours after the paperwork was signed, he was attacked by the Inner Circle of the Phoenix Party. As both he and Alice were unable to speak for themselves due to multiple curses, the true culprits got away as the blame was placed on the Dark Lord's Elite. Stuck in the Janus-Thickney Ward at Saint Mungo's Hospital, they could not prevent Dumbledore from claiming custody of his "Girl-Who-Lived" and hiding her away.

It took three years before the couple was able to leave the wing, doing so in complete secrecy by renting golems enchanted by the best from the Nation to fool the Light Side. Classified as a Family Secret, Alice was actually aware and active, living on a Family Estate outside Britain with Frank, who, while not at the level of his Auror days, was running the Family behind the scenes.

No one knew how the claim of their incompetence had spread, it did not come from any healers or Family members, but the Longbottoms used the claim to their advantage. While the Potter House was inactive as the only one with a valid claim was under fifteen, Frank was unable to break with the house, and opted to not publicly spilt from Dumbledore's party in an attempt to locate the girl they had sworn to protect.

Neville watched as his chosen sister portkeyed away, praying to the gods for her safety before he left the platform himself. It was now his turn to bring down Dumbledore.
