The Heiress Black—Chapter 3

Platform 9 3/4 was a chaotic scene, the best of Fred and George's Wizard Wheezes set off in seemingly random intervals. From their portable swamp, to the snowstorm in a bottle, there was no way for Jade's so-called guards to collect her. Smirking as a prank exploded on Mad-Eye, she triggered her portkey, and smoothly landed in the Milan Gringotts branch.

As a high-priority customer, she was immediately greeted by Gornip, the Black Family account manager, and was escorted to the office where the family wealth had been cultivated for centuries.

"Heiress Black," Gornip greeted her, "I have confirmation of the meeting with your father in the morning. His current alias is Mammon, of the VARIA, and is also known as Viper, World's Greatest Information Broker, Mist of the Arcobaleno."

Gornip selected the first of many folders currently piled on his desk. "According to our research, your father snapped after you were kidnapped and used a family heirloom with the intent to travel back in time just far enough to track you down. Instead, it overshot, and he went back decades instead of weeks."

Opening the file, he removed a document. "It seems when he initially landed he received assistance from the current Lord Black to set up a basic account. We have records of him consulting various seers, oracles and prophets, but all they could tell him was he could not meddle when time caught up."

Jade smiled at the news, her deepest fear was of her father abandoning her. Knowing it was Fate preventing him from interacting with her helped a lot. "For your services Gornip, I authorize payment from the Potter vaults. As payment for the aid of others in the Nation, I return any artifacts, weapons and jewels created by craftspeople of the Nation, with rental fees and interest of ten percent." Watching as the ledger updated automatically, she smiled. "It's done. The Potter family is ruined. They tried to destroy the Blacks, but no one does vengeance like a Black and the Nation. Was anything uncovered on Sirius Black's involvement?"

The whispers of the files as Gornip shuffled through the pages was the only sound in the quiet office, telling Jade her uncle had indeed known at one point. "As he was protected by Treaty and still a Black, we were unable to question him due without the permission of Lord Black. His will is currently being processed, he left several documents and three journals in his bequest to you. With your permission, the Nation will investigate the contents personally.

"Several letters were recovered whilst the property was being reclaimed by the bank, all dated around your first birthday, all unsent and seemed to be drafts. It appears Mister Black did have suspicions regarding your parentage." Gornip drew an emerald green folder from the stack, "the list of possible charges, Heiress Black," passing the file to her. "It is your decision to press charges."

Handing her a ruby folder, he continued, "we have prepared seventy-eight charges against Mr. Dumbledore in addition to the crimes perpetrated against you. Unfortunately, he has been in power for decades, and there are still dozens of accounts to be audited.

"The Director would like to know if you want to file charges personally, or wait until the Bank completes its investigation."

Jade pondered, was it selfish of her to want to hide behind the mountain of charges being brought by the bank? The folder she held listed dozens of accounts signed over by orphans as the headmaster had claimed guardianship. There were seven counts of theft from various Wixen previously ignored, links to missing people, and the damning testimonial of two Dark Lords.

"In respect to the vast amount of work performed by the Nation, I respectfully ask for the charges for his crimes against me to be filed when the rest are prepared. I am not the only one who has suffered at his hand. I do not have the right to lessen the impact of his crimes by beginning now."

Gornip nodded, having expected her answer as he had worked with the heiress for years. Taking another folder, thankfully not as bulky as the others, he had her sign for the charges to be delayed. "With this completed, our business is done. The ritual chamber is ready for the removal of the glamours and the tracking charms. Bring your father in to claim the title and property when you get the chance."

Standing, Jade gave a fierce grin. "May your gold always grow," Jade closed the meeting using the traditional phrase. Escorted to the ritual chamber, she donned the white robe and took a few calming breaths. The blood-bound glamour would be removed tonight, the female version of James Potter would be erased from the world. It was the final step to her freedom.

After the purge was completed, Jade donned an elegant blue robe and left the bank. Checking into the suite held at the local hotel, she pulled out the mirror to begin making her calls. If she did not check in soon, Jade knew that even more chaos would begin in Britain. Going through the list, calling various friends and assuring them of her safety, she relaxed and her magic danced in the room. Tomorrow was her meeting with her father.

"VOI! Midget! Where are you going?" Squalo bellowed as he saw Mammon leave VARIA Headquarters. "Shitty Prince follow him!"

"Why" drawled Xanxus, lounging on his throne. "Is the Miser ignoring you?"

"That midget got a letter from a shitty owl last week!" Shouted Squalo, irritated at the Sky, "He even answered a question without charging me yesterday! VOI! Something is wrong Boss!"

"Hmm. I'll follow." Xanxus left headquarters before Squalo could see the pile of unfinished paperwork.

He was mixed into the crowd when he felt the cloud flames pull on him. His instincts directed him, so he tracked the flames, sending a small tendril of his own to play with the Cloud. He stood in silence, watching a teenage girl with long black hair and striking silver eyes join the Mist.

"Hello," he heard from his perch. "I understand you are Mammon of the VARIA, Viper of the Arcobaleno. According to the goblin nation, you are also my father."

"Impossible. My daughter was killed," Xanxus heard the mist fire back at the girl, and saw her pulling out a few folders.

"We are Blacks. Impossible situations are Normal to our Family. I learned of my identity as the Lost Heiress Black years ago; it has taken me almost a decade to be able to escape Wizarding Britain. The Nation has proof of you establishing your identity when you wound up in the past, and you know they do not lie." As Jade spoke, she withdrew a file from Gringotts, revealing her identity test, as well as a second sheet of prepared parchment for the test. Placing three drops of blood on the second page, Mammon ordered her to identify herself while it processed. By using the Lord's Voice, there was no way Jade could lie to him; the power of the Magicks would prevent any forgery.

"Identify yourself."

"As you wish my Lord Father," she said, giving a deferential nod. "I am Jade Dorea Black, daughter of Regulus Arcturus Black and Carina Leanna Black née Yaxley, heiress of the house of Black, Lady of the Most Ancient and Deadly House of Peverell."

"You are my daughter," the Mist said, drawing down his hood, unveiling eyes identical to the girl. "I thought you were dead."

Xanxus had enough. No one was taking his Mist from him... besides, how could this girl be Mammon's daughter? She was fifteen at the most. Mammon had been cursed for decades. Storming over, he barked at the girl. "How the fuck are you his kid when he was cursed into a baby body?"

"The Bovino received aid from the Blacks to create the Ten-Year Bazooka. Time Travel is nothing to the Black Family, we have done it for centuries. Boss, this is my daughter Jade. Jade, this is Xanxus, Sky and Boss of the VARIA."

"Sky? Like the Flames I found mentioned in the Family Journals?" Jade asked, caught on the first title given.

"Yes, the flames of the Sky, you have cloud flames. It is what caught my attention as I followed Mammon here. And seriously? How did you not notice me? You are the only one I have never been able to trail without being caught."

Regulus snorted, "Of course I spotted you. It did take me longer than usual; I just didn't care when I had to see if the message I got was actually true."

"So, I know it is a topic change, but what exactly are the flames? I know I conjure fire at the Witching Hour, and can do it whenever I am unable to escape from Dumbledore's plans and might die. But I cannot find much about them... it was difficult enough to sneak into the library and take the family journals while being stalked by Dumbledore's minions." Jade looked frustrated, she needed answers, yet knew there was no way to get them without revealing her past.

"It's a long explanation Jade," sighed Regulus. "An explanation better had in private as well. Why don't you tell us about yourself? I want to get to know you."

"We have time before the meeting with the Decimo," added Xanxus, "it would be nice to know a bit about you before going to the meeting."
