Prologue: Bella

He left.

Just like that. It was nothing for him.

"We're leaving. People are starting to get suspicious. Carlisle is pushing for 35 and barely looks 25. We can't keep up this charade." Makes sense that's ridiculous. Charade?

"Um, ok. This is short notice, but I think I can come up with something to tell Charlie." I was really going to go.

"You're not coming, Bella. I don't want you to come with us." Ouch.

"You...don't...want me?"Charade.

"No, Bella. I'm tired of pretending to be human with you. Pretending this love is not one sided. Don't worry though. The human brain is like a sieve, you will heal, and forget over time." Did he just call me stupid?

"What about now?" A hole rips itself through my chest.

"Promise me something?" Why?

"What?" ...

"Don't do anything stupid. For Charlies sake." Idiot, never tell a teenager to not do anything stupid. We are kings and queens of that shit.

He kissed her forehead and vanished in the wind like a note in the breeze.

The memory crashes down on Bella. She doesn't remember ever being that dependent. Although the things he said were enough to bring anyone down. She had always done things on her own, even bringing herself back up.

Her mother was flighty at best. Because of that Bella was cooking, budgeting Renae's checks, grocery shopping, doing laundry, dishes, and getting herself off to school by 8 years old. When she came to live with her father she took over household chores, and cooking to keep her sanity. Don't get her wrong she loved her parents, but she had to be a parent to herself while growing up, because Renae wanted to keep her youth, and Charlie couldn't fight the love of his life.

Soon after meeting the Cullens, Esme and Carlisle became the parents her inner child dreamed of and she relished in it while she had it. Someone was taking care of her. She came to love them as her own, and the purity of it was enough to placate even Jasper.

Jasper. The one sibling she couldn't get to know because of Edward. She was always curious about him, never scared. He was the big brother who protected her from afar. They held a mutual respect and she understood why he was the way he was. It wasn't his fault. It was nature. That is why she was never upset with him about that stupid birthday party.

Parties. Alice. Her best friend. She would miss the small girl, but does not mind the space. The clothes and makeup and hair products were too much. Most of the stuff she used actually dried out her hair and her face and Bella hated it. That aside, she was Bella's best friend and she couldn't help but let her. She will miss the times with her. She wishes she could've said goodbye. It would've made things easier.

Oh god, this would've been worlds better if she could say goodbye to her big brother bear. Emmett. She would miss him so much. Her brother. Bear protector. Confident. His departure tore as much of the hole as Edward did.

Rosalie. She was a sister to Bella. Always would be. Even now, Bella is looking towards Rosalie's stone emotionless stare when in the face of difficulty. Rosalie is her current role model. Bella wants to be as strong as Rosalie. She wants to be able to look a beast in the eye and snort with confidence. She wants to be strong. Like Rosalie.

Alas, that is the battle Rosalie left in her. She is literally fighting with her nature. She is growing from pain and is constantly confused on how to think about things. On one hand she wants to be angry, why does she have to be dealt this hand. Why is everyone turning their back on her?! She did nothing! It isn't fair. On the other hand she understands everyone's situations.

Victoria's mate was killed. Revenge is the obvious next step. A coven is seven would get her killed. One human is easy. Jacob's friends and family were being slaughtered. The obvious next step is to get rid of the problem. Edward. She doesn't understand his situation quite well. It gives her a headache to think about it so she just doesn't.

She'll get her answers though. Even if its the last thing she does.
