Chapter 2: Kido Consequences
One Month Later
It had been a whole week since Rai had fell sick from an unknown cause with an unknown illness. He hadn't been to school for the week but had visited his local doctor, who just so happened to be Kurosaki Isshin. Unfortunately for Rai, Isshin had no idea what he was suffering from and had to turn him away without any answers.
Rai had no idea what cursed luck he had that he would come down with an illness that not even a doctor could diagnose, obviously Pisces wasn't being very compassionate with Rai lately. Well at the end of the day Rai decided that if not even doctor's knew what was wrong with him there wasn't very much chance of him getting better any time soon, so he might as well just get on with life even though that was pretty tough with the way he felt at the moment.
Rai also decided that a week's absence from Karakura High was enough, and he might as well work past his sickness and get his ass in gear, so today Rai was returning. He couldn't understand why he was actually going to school with the way he felt, any other person who was as sick as he was wouldn't even think of getting up to go anywhere before they felt better, Rai however just couldn't do that. He found staying at home on his own too boring without anything to do.
Rai was just leaving his house, he shut the door and searched his pockets for the key but as he found it it slipped out of his hands and proceeded to fall down the steps leading to the pavement by his apartment. Rai sighed "Seems today is yet another one of my unlucky days eh? Great..." and he made his way down the steps, picked up the key, and made his way back up the steps successfully locking the door and headed down the steps, again.
Walking down the street in his sickly and slow manner Rai noticed some of the other Karakura High students rushing along due to the time, some in pairs and others in groups, but nobody was alone, except for him.
Rai hadn't made any friends in his seven months at Karakura, he'd made acquaintances but sure anybody could make acquaintances. Either way this didn't bother him so much, Rai hadn't had any friends in England for sixteen years so seven months here was nothing.
Making it to the front gates of Karakura High Rai let out a sigh and caught his breath for a moment before continuing towards his classroom, whatever sickness he was suffering from had made him feel physically weak, so much to the point that simple walking took the breath out of him. Luckily Isshin had at least written him a note saying that he should not do any sports activities, and in the event he wanted to, to refrain from participating as it posed a serious risk to his health.
Rai was walking through corridors that would usually be crammed full of people going to and from classes, but seeing as he was late they were pretty much lifeless, well almost. Rai was a few classrooms away from his own but man was he tired, he felt like he had just ran a marathon to get to where he was now. Rai yawned while walking, closing his eyes as he went, he heard some talking and some laughter but didn't pay much attention to it until he bumped into something, or rather someone, and fell to the floor weak as he was. "Yep, really not my lucky day today"
"Why don' you watch where the hell your going huh?! Stupid punk, look at you on the floor, pathetic!" The guy who Rai guessed he had bumped into said, the others he had been walking with laughed at his comments.
"Yea.. Sorry about that..." Rai struggled getting up off the floor, but took a good look at the guy he had bumped into, as well as the other two people he was with. The guy had his hands in his pockets, a silver chain around his neck, his hair in a dreadlocks style that made him look like a tribesman and his uniform was a mess. The guy was pretty big, in the sense he was overweight.
The other two people he was accompanied by were no better. One had fairly dark skin with a blonde afro that was covered by a beanie hat, obviously this one didn't have any clothing sense, he too was wearing a silver chain as well as a silver bracelet around his wrist, he was tall but skinny. The third and final groupie was rather small, smaller than the other two. He had a few gold teeth and was wearing a ridiculous looking pair of shades that he probably thought were cool, his uniform was also unkempt and he looked like a slob. Rai could tell from a mile away that these guys were bullies or some of the sort, and Rai didn't particularly like bullies, nor did he back down from them.
"I mean, really I should of been looking where I was going, right?" Rai questioned the fat guy.
"Yeah you should of you little punk, if you don' wanna get hurt, ya get me?!"
"Yeah I know, but with how huge you are no matter how much I look where I'm going I'm still gonna walk into you in this small corridor. And of course I don't want to get hurt, if you had of fell down with me I'd surely have been crushed, you know?" Rai asked sarcastically
The tall and skinny teen pipped up after he heard Rai's words "Huhhh?! You know who your talking to kid?! You better apologise quick!"
Followed by the small stupid shade wearing teen "Yea damn right you better apologise! If you don't boss here is gonna hurt you bad! Real bad!"
"I don't reall-" "Shit.. Not now!"Rai began coughing badly, holding a hand to his mouth while he held onto the wall to support himself.
The small teen laughed before saying "Look at him! We scared him so bad he's dying! Oh god this is too funny!" The bullies all laughed their selves to hysterics over Rai's coughing fit.
Rai's coughing calmed down before stopping and he cleared his throat to bring the bullies back to reality "As I was saying. I don't really see a reason to apologise, this "boss" of yours was a dick to me when he knocked me down just now. Explain to me how anybody who does that deserves an apology after being called as wide as a corridor?"
No laughter could be heard now, it had been replaced by dead silence. The bullies exchanged looks before the tall and skinny one spoke "You should of just apologised kid, insulting the boss once we could of let you off for, but twice is unforgivable. Too bad for you Ijimekko-san here is going to beat your face in!"
The fat front man whose surname was Ijimekko cracked his knuckles while taking a step forward, grabbing Rai by his collar and lifting him up "Any last words?" He asked before snickering.
Rai made no attempt or struggle to get free, he was simply held in mid-air quite limply "What are you asking that for? Not chickening out are you?" Rai taunted the bully before receiving a punch to his face, knocking him to the floor for the second time. "Shit, that actually kinda hurt. Well serves me right picking a fight when I'm in this sorry state. Well no point throwing in the towel, I'm not out cold yet"Rai snickered before asking "Is that all you got fatshit? My front door hits me harder" He then pushed himself off the floor for the second time.
"Tch!" Ijimekko advanced towards Rai "That was just me stretching kid, your in for a world of pain if you think that last hit hurt"
"Hurt? Didn't you hear me? My front door hits h-" Rai was stopped mid sentence by a second punch to his face, followed by a fist to his ribs and another hook to his face. Rai hit the floor like a sack of bricks this time round "Man, as if I didn't have a big enough headache! I wish I could hit this guy back sooo bad right now"he thought as he struggled to make it off the floor this time, wobbling on his legs as he stood. A cut had opened up on his lip and his left eye was bruising so he looked a bit rough at this moment.
Ijimekko let out a hefty grunt "Well that was boring, you're on your last legs already eh kid? Oh well guess this next one is lights out for you" and Ijimekko brought his right fist back ready to hit Rai.
"Yeah, guess this next one really is lights out. Well this went well eh smartcrack? Nice going, first ten minutes in the building and you get knocked out"Rai taunted himself as he watched Ijimekko throw his punch, to Rai's surprise it was stopped dead in the palm of a hand.
A Few Moments Earlier
"God how did I end up so late? One minute its eight-thirty and then the next its eight-fifty five!" Tatsuki scolded herself on her bad punctuality. "Got to come up with an excuse before I make it to class I suppose. They will already be part way through the lesson, man I am such an idiot!" It was then that Tatsuki heard laughter coming from her classes corridor, she was nearly on her classes floor so she would find out what it was in just a moment.
"Look at him! We scared him so bad he's dying! Oh god this is too funny!" Were the first words that Tatsuki heard, they were followed shortly after by another round of laughter, louder than before. "Oh great, guess someone is getting bullied again"She thought to herself as she made it to the top of the stairs and saw the bullies, she could also see the back of a boy she guessed. The first thing about the boy she noticed was his bright scarlet hair, she then noticed he seemed to be choking, on what she didn't know. "Bright scarlet hair? Don't I know someone who has bright scarlet hair?"She thought before noticing the boy had stopped coughing, he stood there in front of the bullies in a confident manner.
"As I was saying. I don't really see a reason to apologise, this "boss" of yours was pretty much a dick to me when he knocked me down just now. Explain to me how anybody who does that deserves an apology after being called as wide as a corridor?" Tatsuki had to giggle at the "wide as a corridor" part of the boys speech, still she respected the guy a little. It was obvious that the advantage was in the bullies' groups favour, and yet the boy stood there confident not backing down in the slightest. As the situation progressed Tatsuki winced when the boy took the first punch to his face, but felt like cheering when he got up off the floor. Still she'd done enough watching after the next three punches the boy was struck with and decided to step in.
"I think that's enough don't you... Ijimekko-san was it?" Tatsuki questioned.
Ijimekko ripped his fist out of Tatsuki's palm before asking "Bitch, do you know who I am? Why don't you walk away while you can before you end up like that punk there" He was tapped on the shoulder by the small shade wearing boy.
"Erm.. Boss.. Let's get outta here, that's Arisawa, Tatsuki Arisawa of the Karate Club! She's ranked second strongest in Japan for our age group boss!"
Ijimekko looked between his subordinate to Tatsuki, back to his subordinate and back to Tatsuki before putting his hands in his pockets again and slouching off in the opposite direction from Tatsuki "Keh! Your lucky I'm feeling generous at the moment Arisawa, punching that punk in let me blow some steam off so I'll let your interference slide for now" he announced, his face and body disagreeing with his voice as he sweat like crazy making a quick escape with his two underlings.
Tatsuki smirked, happy with the way she handled that situation before turning round to the boy who had stood up to them. Now she was closer she realised that the boy looked really sick. He was breathing heavy, slouching, had bags under his eyes and was pale. "Hey uhh... Are you ok? You look really sick.. not to mention you took quite the hit there"
Rai caught his breath before answering "Thanks Arisawa-san but, no matter how bad I look now or in the future all you need to know is I'll be fine. By the way we're late for class so we might want to stop dawdling in the corridor and get a move on"
Tatsuki was caught off guard "Crap the time! and wait.. you know me? How? Aren't you new here?"
Rai mentally facepalmed. "I know you because I've been in the same class as you for seven months, guess you didn't notice. No big deal don't worry about it"
Tatsuki felt bad and started rubbing the back of her head "Geez... Sorry about that I really should pay more attention" she stuck her hand out to shake "Let's start over. I'm Tatsuki Arisawa, nice to meet you"
Rai took her hand and shook it, rather weakly "Raiyarga Tenkaichi, nice to meet you too, and you can just call me Rai"
Tatsuki couldn't help but notice the weakness in his shake, but decided to let it pass "Nicknames already huh? Is that what your friends call you or something?" she smiled
"No. I don't have any friends. I just tell anybody I meet to call me that for the sake of it, my name is rather long and Rai is just convenient. By the way, we should probably quit the chat and get to class" he suggested.
"Crap class! Thanks for reminding me and sorry again! We should talk again sometime!" and with that Tatsuki rushed towards the classroom leaving Rai to pick up his bag and make his own way over there. As he looked at Tatsuki in the distance he felt a sharp pain in his head before hearing a voice scream a patchy sentence "Run... Going! Or... Something... Do here?!"Rai paused for a moment, holding his head "I'm hearing voices in my head now? What am I? Going crazy? Still, something is off. That voice sounded alarmingly like Arisawa-san..."
Rai decided it would be best not to think too much about it for the time being. He was sick enough without having to question his sanity, and on that note he continued towards his classroom and upon arrival, entered. "Sorry I'm late, also so-" Rai began but was cut off abruptly "And what exactly is your excuse for a whole week's absence and then turning up late, Mister?" Miss Ochi questioned. Rai sighed before answering "If you had of let me finish, I was about to explain that. I've fallen sick, I still am sick actually, with what I don't know and how I ended up sick I have no idea. I stopped by to see Kurosaki Isshin the local doctor but he had no answers for me, I'm sure Kurosaki-san remembers my visit."
Miss Ochi looked sceptical. "Kurosaki-kun? Is Tenkaichi-kun telling the truth? If he isn't don't feel obliged to lie for him just because he mentioned you and your father" Yup, Miss Ochi wasn't the sort to just blindly believe a student.
"Yea, He's telling the truth." Ichigo grunted, his head resting on his chin boredly and barely removing his sight from the window, but nonetheless saving Rai from Miss Ochi's wrath.
"Also..." Rai piped up "I'm late because I overslept, and just down the hall confronted a group of ass- uh- bullies, If you couldn't tell by the state of my face, Arisawa-san saw it all and stepped in, she also told me how bad I look so if it isn't too much trouble can I head to the infirmary to get some painkillers and clean myself up?"
Ichigo listened closely while pretending to be focused on the clouds as Tatsuki faced Miss Ochi's questioning.
Miss Ochi turned to Tatsuki "Arisawa-san? Is Tenkaichi-kun also telling the truth about confronting some bullies? If he isn't don't feel obliged to lie for him just because he mentioned you" repeating similar lines to before.
The class giggled at her.
"Uhhh, Yes Ma'am. He's telling the truth, they roughed him up pretty bad, I'm surprised they didn't knock him out cold, he's already weak without being punched in the face so many times.." she said sounding slightly concerned.
Rai simply 'tsked' at her comment "Anyhow, there were three bullies but I only caught the name of one of them... Ijimekko I believe was his name"
"Very well I will look into it. Considering you have told me nothing but the truth and have given evidence to back up your claims, plus your sickness and the way you look I will allow this to pass this time around Tenkaichi-kun." The class collectively giggled at her judge like manner, she was rather well known for being ruthless. "You may go to the Infirmary, feel free to take as long as you need you've already missed the majority of this lesson." Miss Ochi then motioned towards the door.
Ichigo took his attention away from Tatsuki and Miss Ochi and glared at Rai as he spoke. "What's with this guy? He's so weak yet he could withstand hits and come out with only scrapes and bruises? Is that why Hat 'n' clogs wants us to keep an eye on him? Is he an enemy or what? … Something about him isn't right.." Ichigo thought to himself, looking Rai up and down as if x-raying him for faults.
Rai drooped as he let out a relief filled sigh "Thank you very much Miss Ochi, I'll be heading to the Infirmary then" and he slowly left the room.
Rai sat down on the infirmary bed and swallowed the painkillers given to him before lying down. A lot had happened to him in the recent week, falling sick and all. Now on his first day back at school he finds himself fighting with thugs, been rescued by a girl and hearing voices in his head. All in all it was starting to get pretty weird and Rai was struggling to make heads or tails of it.
"Maybe it has something to do with Arisawa?"He questioned himself. "I mean, it was HER voice I heard inside my head... right? Bah whatever, maybe I really am going crazy..."
Rai decided to take a short rest before the next scheduled lesson so he could feel a little refreshed. He decided to set an alarm on his phone for twenty minutes time so he could just lie down and regain his energy.
But, with Rai's bad luck of course something else went wrong. Sometime while he was sleeping his phone battery had died, causing him to be even more late. Three and a half hours late to be exact.
He woke up with a stretch, feeling somewhat better but still not fantastic. He glanced up at the clock on the wall and saw, with a lurch of his stomach, that it was 1:30. He had missed most of the days lessons.
"Oh shit... Now I'm in trouble..." he bolted up off the infirmary bed and ran out the door and off towards the class he was supposed to be in, English, which unfortunately for him was taught by Miss Ochi. He scrambled to a halt at the door to his classroom, knowing he was going to get shouted at for not returning, though she did say he could take as long as he needed. She would never believe that he had overslept again but this time because of his useless phone.
He slid the door open and braced himself for Miss Ochi's rage. "Sorry Miss Ochi. I overslept again because my phone died, I had set an alarm but... well yeah... Sorry again" Rai bowed expecting to be chewed out, but there was no shouting to be heard. Rai sheepishly looked up and saw Miss Ochi with a smile on her face.
"Don't worry about it, I already knew you weren't coming to class for a while." Rai looked at her obviously confused "When you didn't come back after lunch I sent Arisawa and Inoue to check up on you. When they returned they explained that you were out cold and both suggested I leave you until you awoke" Rai was visibly shocked, and looked over to Tatsuki and Orihime. Tatsuki looked at him with a grin and Orihime smiled warmly at him.
"Well, now we have that out the way, may we continue the lesson? Please take your seat Tenkaichi-kun" Miss Ochi asked politely. Rai sat down in his seat and let the lesson continue. He was thankful to both Tatsuki and Orihime for what they had done for him during lunch, but something was still niggling at him. Rai couldn't figure out why he had heard Tatsuki's voice inside his head.
He looked up and observed Tatsuki closely, who was struggling to say the word apple in English. From what Rai could gather Arisawa was just a normal high-schooler. There was nothing particularly special about her except for her talent for Karate. This didn't give him any clues as to why her voice was resounding inside his mind at times, and why it brought with it massive migraines.
At this point Rai was so deep in thought that he didn't even realise Miss Ochi had called out his name to begin reading, which came as a frightful shock when she slammed her hand on his desk and called for him in a raised voice so close that Rai began to feel her breath. "Tenkaichi-kun!" Miss Ochi beckoned as she hit her palm downwards on his desk. Rai jolted and stared wide-eyed at her "Ah.. Uh... Yes Miss Ochi?"
"I said... Can you read the next sentence for us. In English of course." She requested pointing to the sentence in question on her own textbook.
"Erm.. Sure thing.." He answered as he stood up glancing at the teachers textbook to double-check the sentence he was supposed to be reading. Having being raised in the United Kingdom since his birth, Rai had no trouble reading the sentence without error. He found it a small way to show-off to the class. This didn't go according to plan however, just before he began reading a loud screech resounded through Rai's head, the quick stabbing pain that slammed the right side of it caused him to stumble, his hands slamming hard onto the desk to support himself.
The class and teacher all noticed the unusual behaviour and given his illness earlier they all looked worried and some nervous. "Tenkaichi-kun? Are you ok? Do you think you can read?" Miss Ochi asked tenderly as if talking to a wounded child. Rai gripped the side of his head, his legs were shaking and his brow was now damp with sweat. He nodded his head towards Miss Ochi as an indicator that he was ok to continue. "Joe placed the fresh..." "Run.. R-R-Run. RUN" The shout inside his mind and the pain that followed caused Rai to nearly black out, swaying on his legs before collapsing to his knee's.
"Get.. Get Get... Going... Get Going... Going Going... Get Going! G-G-Geoing" The mixed up cries of a voice much too familiar to Rai laid siege to his mind, pain flowing around his head like a bubble. He felt as though he was floating, unable to focus on anything around him. "Make.. Make it stop.." Rai struggled to get his words out, clutching his head with both hands now as if trying to stop a grenade from exploding.
"Tenkaichi-kun? Tenkaichi-kun? Come on, back to the infirmary with you, I'll take you" Miss Ochi volunteered taking steps towards him.
"No Miss Ochi, It's fine I'll take him again" Rai's eyes widened at this voice, it was the same voice plaguing his mind. He shakily looked up to see Tatsuki gaining ground with every step. "Stop.." He said with a crippled whisper "Don't come any closer" It was too quiet for Tatsuki to pick up on.
Rai swung himself to his feet, stumbling backwards as he did falling upon the wall behind him for support, eye's laced with venom he glared at Tatsuki before screaming. "I SAID STOP!" the majority of the class jumped out their seats and backed away from the commotion, six did the opposite, five of them staying stood by their chairs while the sixth stood in front of Tatsuki defensively.
Ichigo Kurosaki stood there with a face hardened for battle. "I.. Said... Don't come any closer. What are you doing.. to me..." "OR IS THERE SOMETHING YOU CAN DO HERE?!" Rai fell forward, the final cry of a locked memory knocking him unconscious from the pain, smashing his head off the desk in front of him before crumbling on the floor.
Tatsuki noticed the steady flow of blood coming from Rai's brow, obviously the injury from hitting his head off the desk just now. She took a step forward but Ichigo grabbed her arm, her head span round to see him giving her a firm glare which said "It's not safe." Ignoring this she wrenched her arm out of his grip before saying sternly "He's injured Ichigo." after which she knelt down next to Rai, lifting his body over her shoulder and carrying him out the door announcing "He's injured Miss so I'm going to run him to the infirmary!"
Rai awoke, opening and closing his eyes slowly in an attempt to focus his blurry vision. "I've being sleeping?" He tried moving but his body felt like lead, weighed down by a heavy force. "I was just in class though... Wasn't I?" Then it hit him. He remembered what happened inside the classroom, how he had freaked out, the way the class looked at him in fear, the shock on Tatsuki's face and... The look a father would give when defending his children... The face Ichigo wore, strong, defiant... Battle ready.
Rai sat up groggily looking downwards towards the infirmary bed as if deep in thought and began talking to himself "Are Ichigo and Tatsuki that close? Or... Is it something else? Does he see me as a threat? Or was he just protecting his friend? Enough of that how does Tatsuki feel? Jesus I bet she is freaked out, probably doesn't like me any more.. If she even did, shame too, I thought we could have been friends" He paused before continuing "I bet the whole class sees me as a weirdo now... Man I have reeeally screwed up"
"Ahem" Tatsuki cleared her throat to make her presence aware to Rai, who turned slowly with an "Oh shit" look etched onto his face. She stared at him, he stared at her and the tension was becoming unbearable for Rai until Tatsuki burst out laughing holding her stomach as she howled. Rai just sat there dead-panned, watching Tatsuki kick and flail in a fit of laughter unable to contain herself.
Rai looked on as Tatsuki calmed down, her fit of giggles coming to an end with a self-commentary of "Ohhhh" and "My ribs! My ribs!" after she had settled down Rai decided to break the silence by asking "So.. What was so funny?" looking at her with one eyebrow raised. Tatsuki bit her lip to stop herself from laughing again, the memory of whatever made her laugh so hard returning "Your face" she said "Your face was comical when you turned round, pure fear that was, pure fear" giggling a little as she finished.
"Oh" Rai replied "Well I wasn't really expecting you of all people to be sitting there. How long have you been here?"
"I've been sat here the whole time, I brought you to the infirmary so after the nurse took a look at your head and patched you up I stayed until you awoke." Tatsuki spoke as if talking to her little brother.
Rai looked confused "You sat there waiting the whole time? Why?"
"You were injured you idiot, I had to make sure you were ok." She paused for a moment before speaking again "Also... It seemed like I caused... Whatever happened to you"
"Caused it?" Rai asked "What do you mean caused it?" He questioned
Tatsuki looked seriously at him before answering "You don't remember? Just before collapsing you told me not to come any closer and asked me what I was doing to you. What's all that about?"
Rai was unsure whether to tell her what was going on, but decided he should as she might be able to help him "I don't know why. And I don't know how. But you are in my head, I hear your voice and sometimes I see your face, It's fuzzy and distorted as if I am hallucinating or in a dream. When it happens I get serious migraines and the pain renders me pretty much paralyzed. That's the best way I can explain it. Earlier I broke down because I had a particularly bad.. episode."
Tatsuki's face was motionless, as if freeze framed until a rosy blush crept it's way to the surface of her cheeks "Ah.. Um.. Well.. I don't know how to respond" She fidgeted looking uneasy.
Rai immediately picked up on this and quickly flailed his arms trying to explain "AH! No No.. I don't... I mean.. That wasn't a confession!" panicking before engaging in a coughing fit.
Tatsuki grabbed the glass of water on his bedside table and handed it to him, which he drank hastily clearing his throat. With a blissful "Ahhh" his coughing fit came to an end. She took the glass back off him, which he thanked her for and as she placed it on the table she turned to Rai and thought she should ease the tension with a joke. "What do you mean not a confession? Didn't you fall for my beauty at first sight?" She joked raising her head and hand in a posh ladylike manner.
Rai stared at her blankly before flatly asking "You're capable of beauty?" in which Tatsuki smacked him over the top of the head. "Ow Ow Ow.. I'm sick you know!"
"Not so sick that you can make fun of me and not get smacked for it" She quickly replied bobbing her tongue out to him. "But seriously, you've fallen for me haven't you? Ten-kai-chi-kun~" Finishing in a teasing way topping it off with a wink to boot.
This made Rai chuckle, in which he responded "Sadly for you no. But don't get me wrong you are perfectly good looking and very attractive." there was an awkward pause "I mean, from a neutral standpoint..." He looked away blushing.
"Ahaha. You really think that?" Tatsuki laughed as she asked him. Rai responded by turning to face her and looking her directly in the eyes with the most serious expression she had ever seen. "Yes. I do think that. You are a perfectly good looking young lady and any man that has you will be lucky. Any man that doesn't notice your good looks is dumb as a log." He was quick to notice the confession-like tone and the blush that had come on full force making Tatsuki's face look like a strawberry.
Rai facepalmed before apologizing "Sorry... I made this awkward again"
Tatsuki fidgeted again this time looking away from him and twisting a small piece of her hair around her index finger "No... It's fine... I don't mind its just I'm not used to having guys say that to me"
"Seriously?" He questioned.
"Seriously what?" She asked in return.
"No guy has ever said you are good looking?" Rai looked bewildered.
"No... Never. Is that a surprise?" Tatsuki looked equally bewildered.
He took a moment to look at Tatsuki's face in serious detail. Her skin was pale with a tinge of pink, reminding Rai of the remains you get after vanilla and strawberry ice-cream melt and mix, her cheeks were full and rounded which lead down to a small pointed chin. That along with her tomboyish attitude made Rai think of a rebellious hamster. After that He went upwards and focused on her eyes, they were a warm chocolatey-brown colour that radiated friendliness and determination. He allowed for a smirk to rise on his face as he answered her. "It is, I mean you are really good looking, I don't understand why nobody has told you this. You have any idea why?"
"Jeez! Did he have to stare at my face for a whole minute before he answered?!" Tatsuki mentally scolded, padding her hands to her warm cheeks coming to the obvious conclusion that she was blushing. She sighed before answering "I have one idea as to why nobody told me"
"Okay... You gonna tell me what it is detective Arisawa?" Rai teased her trying to ease the mood
Tatsuki simply rolled her eyes and answered "Fear for their lives I guess"
"Fear for their..." Rai raised an eyebrow looking at her skeptically "Are you being serious right now or are you joking with me?"
She looked at him blankly "Women never joke about these sorts of things just so you know"
"She's not lying! We don't lie!~" Was the cheery shout that came from the lurking Nurse
Rai almost felt ganged on but found it comical rather than uncomfortable "Okay okay, but that doesn't explain why they would fear for their lives... I mean, I didn't fear you at all when I told you that"
"Well..." Tatsuki fidgeted a little before answering "Me being the second strongest female Karate practitioner in Japan..."
"Wait... You're the second strongest?" Rai chipped in
"I am... Didn't you know?"
"Nope. Didn't even have the smallest clue of that" He answered
"I think..." She continued "It not only makes them scared of rejection, but a beating for confessing too. Not that I would, unless they were crude about how they asked me"
Rai laughed flatly "That's ridiculous. All I'm going to say is if that IS the case, they need to man up a bit. Which means before they do, they don't deserve you. Anyway..." He swivelled his legs to the side of the bed and was getting ready to stand up "We should be heading back now I'm awake"
"Back to?" She asked
"The class of course." He answered
"Nope." Tatsuki held her hand up to stop Rai from asking why before explaining, "The teacher visited while you were out and told me to help you get home once you woke up, but we need to make a detour before we go to wherever it is you're living"
"A detour? To where?"
"To the Kurosaki Clinic. Nurse told me that the wound on your head needs stitching which they aren't licensed to do here. Don't worry, Isshin Kurosaki is crazy as a bat but he can stitch just fine" Tatsuki finished by sticking a thumb up to Rai.
Rai looked upwards as if to look at the wound and dabbed a hand to the bloody bandage before cringing "Shit, that hurts." he then stood up, wobbling a little on his legs before steadying himself and heading towards the door, Tatsuki followed suit.
"Alright kid, this is gonna' hurt a little bit-" Isshin Kurosaki said as he dipped a cotton swab in some water substance with a pair of tweezers and bought it to the open wound on Rai's forehead. As expected he jumped half a mile and yelped in pain. "I did warn you" he said rolling his eyes and wondering off to dispose of the blooded swab.
"I know but I wasn't expecting it to sting that bad..."
"Its an open wound, did you expect it to glow bright pink and form a magical ban-aid over itself? How did you manage that anyway?" Isshin questioned.
"I head-butted a desk at school..."
"Ohhh yeaah, I used to do that aaall the time, kinda like this" and without warning Isshin dropped the nut on his stainless steel work surface. Rai jumped to his feet with a shout.
"What the hell are you insane!?"
Tatsuki didn't stand up in shock like he did, but she did shoot him a side ways look that said: 'That's exactly what he is' with a tiny stifled chuckle. She had known Ichigo and his family for a long time so she probably would know what Isshin was really like. Rai quite plainly thought he had lost his mind.
"See, we're matching!" he said happily like two boys comparing cuts on their knees, a magnificent purple lump swelling over the top of the cut.
Rai just stared with mouth open slightly speechless.
"Oh don't worry I'll sort it out when I've fixed you" and he continued cleaning up Rai's forehead as though nothing had happened. In truth Rai wasn't sure he trusted someone like Isshin to 'Fix him'. But he sat quiet wincing slightly every time the salty disinfectant solution met his skin.
Isshin gave him 5 stitches and the torture was finally over. They thanked him with a small bow and left.
Rai assured Tatsuki that he was alright now but she insisted on walking him to his door. "What if anything happened to you on your way back? You'd be hurt and the teacher would want my head on a plate. I'm taking responsibility for your safety right now."
He agreed. He couldn't argue with that. The Kurosaki Clinic was only a few blocks away from his apparently but the two of them strolled along chatting, Tatsuki telling some ridiculous stories of the things that Isshin has done in the past, like trying to trying to walk up the stairs on his hands and rolling back down to the crack his head open on the front door.
"And the one time Ichigo got so mad at his dad for acting like an idiot, Ichigo is the total opposite of him, really stubborn and serious, that he locked himself in his room for almost two days and Isshin actually borrowed a neighbours trampoline and catapulted himself through Ichigo's window!"
"Seriously?" Rai asked, just barely believing the words he was hearing.
"Seriously. Me and Orihime watched him do it. You wouldn't believe some of it, but one thing you cant deny is that he's not a boring dad, we had some real fun times with him growing up, Me and Ichigo" she smiled.
They stopped outside the steps to his apartment. "Thanks Arisawa-San. I really owe you one for this and I'm sorry about scaring you earlier"
"Forget about it, just get in and get some rest. You might wanna' stay off school a bit longer.. we don't want a repeat of today else people will think your insane"
"I'm not insane" he said indignantly.
"I know that but no-one else speaks to you, they'll make their own assumptions. Take care" and with a smile, she waved and wandered off back in the direction of school. Rai wasn't sure where she lived so he concluded that she must live in that direction, school would already be finished by now after all.
Isshin sat facing the clinic door's, tending to the wound he inflicted upon himself while deep in thought. His mind was fixed on the boy he had just treated, and his current condition. He knew what had caused it, or rather who had caused it, and that very man had just arrived.
"Isshin." Urahara greeted the man with a tone of respect, his counterpart however did not.
"Yo Kurosaki!" came the bubbly greeting from Yoruichi.
"Kisuke! Yoruichi! Welcome! Welcome! Come! Sit down!" The usual carefree Isshin coming back to the surface. Ushering the group through to the house side of the clinic they sat down in the front room. Isshin was about to offer drinks but Yoruichi was the first to break the silence "Right then, let's get down to business"
Isshin looked a little taken aback "You came here for business?" was the question he asked.
"Ah, well we can always get to business later-" replied Urahara only to be hastily cut off.
"No, this can't wait Kisuke. You of all people should know that, plus, Isshin was already thinking about it before we stepped through the door's I imagine" came the sharp, to-the-point reply of Yoruichi.
Isshin's facial expression became serious again. "So this visit is about the boy?"
Snapping his fan shut, Kisuke also wore a serious expression "Yes, I'm afraid it is. He visited a short while ago did he not?"
"He did. What of it?" Isshin's tone was calm, yet his words gave off an eagerness to get the matter at hand dealt with.
"Why did he visit? Was he injured? If so, how did he get the injury?" Yoruichi questioned this time
"He was injured yes, he had split his forehead open. It needed five stitches. He got the injury when he blacked out in his classroom, another episode caused by Kisuke's kido. Sadly, I have more bad news regarding his health." A thick frown was etched on Isshin's brow now. The tension inside the room was high, the three were stiff in the shoulders.
Isshin cleared his throat in attempt to relieve some of his tension before continuing "I'm sure you have both already come to this conclusion, but just in case I will clarify. His health, is going to get a lot worse. It is going to deteriorate quickly and unless something changes" Isshin paused to be sure he had no less than their full attention "The boy known as Raiyarga Tenkaichi is going to die."
