I healed my team at the PokeCenter and I walked over to Alice, who was sitting at a table. "Hey." I said, walking by her shoulder while she was eating. She just nodded her head, indicating that she heard me. "I have a question." She looked up at me. "Would you like to do a battle with me? I ran into a couple of trainers that challenged me to a 2v2 battle, and I wondered if you would be my battle partner." She just nodded and turned back to her food. "Thanks." I said, walking away. A few hours later, Alicia and I were facing a boy with a straw hat on and a bug net in his hand. To his right was a girl with an open orange jacket with a white shirt underneath. She had black shorts going down to her knees.

"Go, Caterpie!" called the Bug Catcher as the same time that the Ace Trainer called "Go, Sandshrew!" I stood in thought for a second and looked over to Alicia. We nodded at the same time.

"Go, Mankey!" we both called at the same time. "Use Leer!"

"Caterpie, use String Shot!" called the Bug Catcher as both Mankey's lunged at the Caterpie and Sandshrew. It shot a long line of string out of its mouth, but both of the Mankeys jumped out of the way before they could get wrapped up.

"Sandshrew, use Defense Curl!" called the Ace Trainer. Her Sandshrew curled up, increasing its defense. The Mankeys ran up and glared at the Caterpie and Sandshrew, lowering their defenses by two stages.

"Now, use Karate Chop on the Sandshrew!" called Alicia.

"Mankey, use Scratch on the Caterpie!" I called, and both Mankeys lunged forward. Alicia's performed a karate chop on the foe's Sandshrew, and my Mankey rushed forward and scratched the Bug Catcher's Caterpie.

"Now, use Defense Curl!" called the Ace Trainer, and the Bug Catcher yelled "Use String Shot!" The sandshrew curled up again, returning its defense to normal and the Caterpie shot out a bunch of String, which wrapped around my Mankey, lowering its speed. However, both of the Mankeys still struck their targets. The Caterpie got knocked out, but the Sandshrew hung on with a little bit of health left. "Go, Weedle!" yelled the Bug Catcher. "Use String Shot!" he called as the Ace Trainer shouted, "Use Scratch!" The Sandshrew lunged forward as the Weedle brought its head back. My Mankey, which was the one that the Weedle was aiming at, jumped to the side as Alicia's, which the Sandshrew was aiming for. They timed it just right, so the Sandshrew got wrapped up by the string and it slammed into the ground, knocking it out. "Go, Nidoran!' called the Ace Trainer, and a Nidoran F came out of the pokeball.

"Mankey, use Karate Chop!" Alicia and I called at the same time, and our Mankeys lunged forward and chopped the enemy Pokémon, knocking them out. "Yes!" I yelled, giving Alicia a high five. I turned to our opponents. "You guys did good job, thanks for the battle." They just nodded. Alicia and I walked into the PokeCenter and healed our Mankeys. "Thanks for being my battle partner." I said as we left the PokeCenter and started walking towards Route 2.

"It was no problem. It was really fun." she told me. We strolled around Route 2 until a Caterpie and a Weedle jumped out of the grass. "Dibs!" we both called. I turned to her. "How about this," I asked her," you get the Weedle, and I get the Caterpie?" She nodded enthusiastically. "Go, Evee!" I called and initiated our battle. "Eevee, use Tackle!" Evee lunged forward and slammed into the Caterpie. "Now, use Tackle one more time!" Evee slammed into the Caterpie again, and because of the level difference, my Eevee was able to knock it into low health.

"Go, pokeball!" I yelled, throwing a pokeball at the weakened Caterpie.

"I got it!" I called, just as Alicia yelled "Go, pokeball!"

"Alright!" she yelled, holding up her pokeball. We both ran back to the PokeCenter to heal our newly caught Pokémon and ran back. After training for a little bit, we decided to head into Viridian Forest. We ran into a patch of grass and a Pikachu appeared.

"Dibs!" I called again. Alicia groaned. "Go, Nidoran!" Nidoran popped out of his pokeball and looked around. He looked at the Pikachu and grinned. "Nidoran, use Focus Energy!" I called, and Nidoran closed his eyes and started focusing. Alicia sidled up next to me.

"I never noticed this, but why is your Nidoran blue?" she asked me. "I thought it was male."

"It is male, it's just a shiny Nidoran." I told her. She nodded and sidled away. "Dodge it!" I yelled as the Pikachu fired off a Thundershock. Nidoran opened his eyes and jumped to the side. "Now, use Peck" I yelled, and Nidoran ran up to the Pikachu. He used Peck on the Pikachu, jabbing it with his horn. The Pikachu stumbled back and glared at Nidoran. It fired off another Thundershock, and it hit Nidoran directly, and he dropped to his knees. "Now, use Peck again!" I called, and Nidoran slammed his horn into Pikachu once again, landing a critical hit and lowering it into red health. "Go, pokeball" I yelled, throwing out a pokeball. It hit the Pikachu square in the face.

"Alright!" I yelled, holding up the pokeball. "I now have a Pikachu!" Alicia huffed. We walked on for a little while, fighting some Bog Catchers here and there, leveling up my team. After the third or fourth Bug Catcher, Caterpie started to glow. "Yes, it's evolving!" I cheered. The light faded, and a Metapod was sitting in front of me. I walked on with my team, but Metapod stayed put. "Right, no legs." I said to myself and jogged back. I picked up the Metapod and continued walking on. A couple more Bug Catchers later, and Metapod started glowing again. "It's evolving already?" I asked with a confused look on my face. Metapod stopped glowing, and a Butterfree was flying in front of me. "Alright!" I cheered. Alicia and I did some training with our Pokémon for a little while before leaving the forest. I shielded my eyes as we exited, getting back onto Route 2.

We walked on and entered Pewter City. I looked around, and was slightly surprised about the size, especially after just having been through Pallet Town and Viridian City. Alicia and walked to the PokeCenter to heal our team. While we were waiting, she turned to me. "I challenge you to a battle." she told me defiantly. I put my hands behind my head and shrugged.

"Sure." I told her. Nurse Joy handed us our Pokémon back. We both walked out back to the battlefield. We walked to our sides of the battlefield.

"Go, Mankey!" she shouted as her Mankey popped out of its pokeball. She smirked at me. "Your turn to choose."
