Chapter 4: Saving Major Briggs
Sonya walked through Goro's lair, carefully watching her step. "Jax. Are you there?" She asked into the darkness. She located Major Jackson Briggs in a cell in the bowels of the lair. "Jax, are you alright?" Sonya asked running to the cell. "Run, girl. Run." Jax told her. "You're not going anywhere." Shang Tsung's voice said behind her. Sonya turned around to spot Shang Tsung, Baraka, and the Shokan Sheeva standing there. "Let us go. We're not part of your stupid tournament." She told him. "On the contrary. You are very much a contestant." Shang Tsung replied. "You will face Sub-Zero of the Lin Kuei klan of assassins." Shang Tsung told her. An icy figure appeared before her, the ice shattered and before her stood Bi-Han. Bi-Han's code name was Sub-Zero, his lineage was in the Lin Kuei for generations. His bloodline were cryomancers from Outworld. With the exception for his younger brother Kuai Liang, who was called Tundra, Bi-Han and his ancestors in the klan were always called Sub-Zero.
Bi-Han immediately threw an ice ball at Sonya, she ducked it and stood up. She was confused at exactly what was thrown at her, Bi-Han summoned a sword that looked to be made of ice and swung at Sonya, she dodged the sword and kicked it. The sword shattered and she grabbed Bi-Han by his neck using her legs. She swung him around and he fell to the ground, immediately rolling over and standing. Sonya did a flying crane kick that connected perfectly, Bi-Han retaliated by throwing a roundhouse. Sonya fell to the ground from the force of the kick, she stood to her feet and lunged at Bi-Han. She threw three kicks and a hook, all blocked by the ninja. Bi-Han punched Sonya in the stomach, before elbowing the top of her head. Sonya fell to the ground, Bi-Han readied his foot to stomp of Sonya's head. Sonya moved out of the way and kicked Bi-Han with a roundhouse kick. She used her wrist com, which had a built in laser to stun Bi-Han. Sonya started delivering a series of kicks and punches, finishing him with a roundhouse kick. "Okay, I'm done." She told Sub-Zero.
She approached Shang Tsung, Liu Kang appeared in a flurry of lightning and fire. "No, he is not for you to challenge." He told her. "You want some too? Fine by me." Sonya told Liu Kang. The fire god halted her with one hand out. Sonya stopped what she was doing and looked at him. Liu Kang used his powers to melt the bard that caged Jax, Shang Tsung looked at the fire god. "What are you doing Liu Kang?" He asked the fire god. "Buying them time. They are not to fall." Liu Kang replied. Sonya took Jax and left, Shang Tsung tried to stop her when Liu Kang used his powers to restrain him. "They are not your prisoners." Liu Kang told Shang Tsung. "No matter. They will not get far." Shang Tsung replied with a laugh.
Sonya and Jax walked out into the open, the sky was bright and clear. "Move it, soldier. That's an order." Sonya said as she helped carry the heavy man. "So you're giving the orders now?" He asked her in response. Jax was hurt, he had been tortured by Shang Tsung and Goro while is was in captivity. Sonya sat Jax down and talked into her wrist com. "I have Jax, now where's that damn evac?" Sonya asked into the wrist com. "We're close, we should be here in a few minutes." A voice replied. "After we get you out of here, I'm staying behind. Kano is on the island." Sonya told Jax. "Your obsession with him is going to get you killed." Jax replied with a groan. "I trusted him." Sonya remarked. "We all did." Jax replied. Sonya remembered the nights in bed that she and Kano shared, the sweet talk, and the kisses. Then she remembered the ambush. "But I was the one he used." Sonya said with regret.
Jade and Kitana appeared from the darkness. "By orders of Shang Tsung, no one leaves this island." Jade said authoritively. "I do not have time for this." Sonya said with a groan. She struck Jade with a kick to the stomach, following a leg sweep. Jade fell to the ground and stood back up, she pulled out her staff and struck at Sonya. Sonya grabbed the staff and used it to poke Jade in the chest, she then threw it with Jade into a wall. Kitana came from behind and sweeped Sonya's leg, Sonya fell to the ground from the sweep. Kitana stood over Sonya with her fan blades, Sonya kicked one out of Kitana's hand before kicking Kitana in the face. Jade and Kitana rushed Sonya, who fought them off singlehandedly.
As the women were fighting the helicopter appeared, only to be shot down. The helicopter catching fire and falling out of the sky stopped the fight, she looked over at Shang Tsung who had a fireball in his hand. "You aren't going anywhere. You have a challenger." Shang Tsung told Sonya. Kano stepped forward, Jade and Kitana joined Shang Tsung. "Pretty boy ain't gonna save you this time." Kano remarked with a laugh. Kano punched Sonya in the face, before grabbing her by her hair. "If I remember right, you liked it rough. Let's see how you like this." Kano said with a laugh before punching Sonya in the stomach. Sonya retaliated with a headbutt, she stunned Kano before kicking him in the stomach. Sonya stood to her feet, she punched Kano in the face in fury. Kano grabbed her fist as she attempted a second punch, he kicked her twice in the stomach before spinning her around into a chokehold. Sonya used her feet to kick Kano in the face and broke free of his hold, she grabbed him into an armbar, kicking him twice in the best before grabbing his head with her legs and spinning him to the ground. She elbowed him twice in the face then stood up, she stomped on his face knocking him out. Sonya sighed. "You're coming with me." She told him.
As she walked towards him, Shang Tsung shot a fireball created a barrier between her and Kano. "Kano is not your prisoner." He told her. "At least help Jax, he needs a medic." She replied. Shang Tsung laughed in response, he Kitana, Jade, and Kano walked off. Johnny, Liu Kang and Li Jing had found Sonya. "There you are." Johnny said approaching Sonya. Liu Kang approached Jax. "Leave him alone!" Sonya shouted. "It's okay. He's cool." Johnny told her. Liu Kang used his powers to start healing Jax. "What the fuck" Sonya asked before Johnny grabbed her arm gently. "Seriously. He's cool." Johnny aassured her. Liu Kang finished healing Jax, the well build black man looked at his healed body. "That's amazing." He said impressed. "Told you. Turns out, he's a god." Johnny said to the group. "Thank you Liu Kang." Sonya told him. "Your gratitude is unnecessary. You all play a part in a much grander plan. The tournament will go on, and we will win. But that doesn't end it. You must all be prepared for the aftermath. Every one of you play a role in Earth's survival." Liu Kang told them. "What must we do Lord Liu Kang?" Li Jing asked him. "You must remember your training, and use it in the tournament. I will instruct you further afterwards." Liu Kang replied. The warriors walked off, preparing for the next round.
