February

Hailey stepped out of the bathroom with a towel around her to see Jay laying on their bed tossing his wedding ring up in the air over and over. She smiled and walked over to sit on the edge of the mattress, "We don't work tomorrow."

Jay looked up at her and smiled, "We don't. What should we do on this Sunday off?"

Hailey shrugged and played with the edge of her towel, "I kind of just want to stay in bed and be close with you."

Jay sat up, "I like that. I'm down."

Hailey stood from the bed and walked over to the dresser, "I think it's going to rain tomorrow too, so a lazy day in bed with you sounds perfect."

"Rain or snow?" Jay asked.

"It'll probably be that horrible icy rain honestly," Hailey sighed, "All the more reason to stay inside and do absolutely nothing." She dropped the towel and slipped on one of Jay's t-shirts and a pair of underwear.

"Nothing?" Jay swung his legs off the bed, "I don't know if I'd say 'absolutely nothing' was exactly what I'd want to do all day."

Hailey laughed softly as she walked over to him then put her hands on his shoulders, "What'd you have in mind?"

Jay shrugged and pulled her onto his knee, "Maybe…" he lightly kissed her neck, "This?"

Hailey smiled and brushed her hand over his hair, "But all day? Gosh, Jay, that could get painful."

He laughed and fell back onto the mattress with her on his chest, "I'll be gentle."

Hailey rolled over to face him and kissed him quickly, "I'm not completely against that. A slow day in bed sounds really perfect."

"Exactly," Jay tangled his hand in the back of her hair, "No rushing anything."

Hailey smirked slightly, "So…maybe you can continue what you were doing?"

Jay chuckled, "I can do that." His lips trailed down Hailey's jaw until he found her collarbone.

"I guess…doing this all day tomorrow wouldn't be a bad thing," Hailey breathed.

Jay laughed and flipped them over, "Told you."

Hailey smiled and tugged at his shirt until his lips were once again against hers, "Thank you." She became lost in the feeling and fluttered her eyes closed…she could do a whole day of this.

With the icy rain pelting the windows, Jay tossed a pile of blankets on top of Hailey on the bed, "This might be every blanket we own."

Hailey laughed and pushed them off of her, "It's actually more than I thought."

"Maybe you should stop buying them," Jay crawled over her to his side of the mattress and laid down.

"I do not have a blanket addiction," Hailey wrapped her arms around Jay and set her head on his shoulder.

"Never said you did," Jay chuckled. He looked down at her and pulled her hood over her eyes, "You look cute when you wear my clothes."

Hailey smiled, "Good because they are way comfier than what I own."

Jay kissed her head and grabbed the remote, "What should we watch today?"

"I have no idea," Hailey breathed, "What if I fall asleep?"

"Then you fall asleep," Jay shrugged as he flicked through the channels.

"You won't mind?" Hailey asked.

"Not at all," Jay landed on an old movie before pulling some of the blankets over them.

Hailey didn't even bother looking at the TV, though, and instead entertained herself by tracing the letters that spelt out Chicago on Jay's sweatshirt. She hummed softly and switched from drawing them individually to writing them in cursive.

"Where'd you get this?" she softly asked.

Jay tuned into her and replied, "What?"

"Where'd you get this sweatshirt?" Hailey repeated, "I don't think I was there when you got it."

"You weren't," Jay chuckled, "My mom bought it for me when I came back from my tour."

Hailey looked up at him, "That's nice."

"Yeah," Jay shrugged, "She didn't need to do it, but she was worried about me."

"Worried why?" Hailey asked.

"I was pretty beat up," Jay brushed his fingers through her hair, "I didn't want to be medically discharged, obviously, but it happened and I was sort of a mess."

Hailey lightly touched the side of his face, "I can't imagine that feeling."

Jay shrugged again, "It's over, right? I've moved on."

Hailey smiled slightly and pressed her hand to his chest.

"I'm okay," Jay kissed her forehead.

"I know," Hailey slipped her hand around him and hugged him tightly.

Jay chuckled and rubbed his hand over her back, "She wanted to cheer me up and she was already pretty sick, so I'm pretty sure this is from the grocery store because it was one of the last places she actually went before we kept her inside away from germs."

Hailey swirled her hand along his side, "That's really nice."

Jay nodded and wiped a hand over his face.

"Hey," Hailey whispered and kissed his chin.

"I know," Jay cleared his throat, "I'm good."

"It's okay if you're not," Hailey said.

Jay leaned his head down to look at her and smiled, "I know." He brushed his thumb under her eye, "Thanks for being here."

"Always," Hailey smiled. She pushed herself up and pressed her lips to his.

Jay groaned against her and slipped his hands under her hoodie pressing his thumbs into her lower back.

"I love you," Hailey whispered against him.

"More than anything," Jay countered with a soft smile.

Hailey laughed and gently straddled his thighs, "Are you saying I love you more than anything or you love me more than anything? Both are true."

Jay chuckled and squeezed her waist, "Then both, but I was saying that I love you more than anything."

Hailey squealed softly as Jay gently pushed her waist so she fell forward onto him. She kissed him and breathed, "Careful, Halstead, don't want to hurt you."

"You could never hurt me," Jay smirked.

Hailey raised an eyebrow then pinched his side.

"Ow!" Jay laughed, "Hailey Anne!"

She waited a beat then joined in with his laughter, "I'm not even sorry about it."

"You suck," Jay kissed her.

"Want me to?" Hailey winked.

Jay laughed harder and tickled her sides, "Knock it off…but also yes."

Hailey sat up again to pull her sweatshirt off, "Well, if you insist."

Jay's mouth gaped slightly, "Are you serious?"

"Why not?" Hailey lightly bounced on his middle then slid down, "What do you think?" She swirled her fingers along his thighs, "I don't have to…"

Jay tilted his head back with a groan, "Hailey Anne."

"Mhmm," Hailey lightly kissed across his sweatpants, "That's my name."

Jay laughed, "You're being a tease."

"Am not," Hailey smirked and rested his head on his thigh. She blinked her eyes up at him and tried to relax her face despite everything inside her wanting to laugh.

"Please," Jay set his hand on her head, "I will repay you in that gentle way you asked for."

Hailey kissed his thigh again, "Hmm, I like that idea."

"So?" Jay asked and lightly scratched the top of her head.

Hailey laughed and played with the waistband of his pants, "You really are begging today and it's barely 10am."

Jay chuckled, "Well, you do that to me."

Hailey hummed and started slipping his pants down, "And I'm the only one?"

Jay lightly pushed his hips up and nodded, "The only one forever. I promise."

Hailey smiled and slid up to quickly press a kiss to the bottom of his stomach then trailed her lips down.

Jay groaned and closed his eyes, "You're the best."

Hailey let out a soft laugh as she finished tugging his pants off, "You can say that again." Her hands rubbed over his legs one last time before finally giving him what he wanted.

Hailey sat up against the headboard with Jay's head in her lap. She brushed her hands through his hair as she caught her breath.

Jay sleepily smiled and tilted his head up to kiss the bit of skin still showing from where he'd bunched her shirt up as he had his way with her minutes before.

Hailey closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the wall, "You really love me, don't you?"

"More than anything," Jay kissed her stomach again.

"Enough to get me some food?" Hailey asked.

Jay laughed and slowly sat up, "You're hungry?"

"Starving," Hailey laughed.

Jay sighed, "All right, all right, what's the wife want?"

Hailey raised an eyebrow, "That's unnecessarily sassy."

"Says the woman bossing me around for food," Jay chuckled and fell into the pillows next to her. "Okay, let's see," he grabbed his phone, "What're we thinking? On my 'Hailey Approved Takeout Food' list, I've got pizza, Chinese, burgers-"

"You have a list of food I like?" Hailey looked over his shoulder to see that he did have his notes app open to a list with that very title.

"Yeah, started it years ago," Jay showed her, "Even linked the menus to it and wrote down your orders."

"Let me see that," Hailey grabbed the phone from him and scrolled through the list. He had all of her favorite lunches and fast food orders typed out. Out of curiosity, she clicked the back button and immediately saw a list titled 'Hailey's Breakfast' and one called 'Dinner with Hailey' right underneath the 'Hailey's Drink Orders.' She weakly laughed and passed him back the phone, "You are unbelievable."

Jay shrugged, "Didn't want to ever make a mistake."

Hailey smiled and shook her head, "Wow."

"So what're you thinking?" Jay breezed past her amazement and flicked through his list, "Personally, I feel like Chinese, but I could also go for a meatball sub at that place near the district."

Hailey was still staring at him just completely blown away. Here was this man who she'd known for years, called her fiancé for thirteen days, married just a few months ago, and she could confidently say he was the most incredible person she had ever met in her entire life.

"Hails," Jay glanced up at her, "Chinese, subs, or something else?"

"Uh, Chinese," Hailey said, "That sounds really good right now. Comfort food for a day in bed."

Jay smiled and kissed her cheek, "All right, let's pray that we can get this delivered. It might take a while, so do you want to grab us a snack while I order?"

"Sure," Hailey kept her eyes on him as she got out of bed. She managed to tear her eyes from him and spotted her underwear on the ground slipping it on quickly then hurrying downstairs.

"Wow," she repeated to herself again as she leaned over the counter, "Okay. Okay. Food. We need a snack."

She looked through all the cupboards and really didn't find much that stood out to her. She wasn't surprised, they hadn't had time to go grocery shopping lately. This really was their first day off in ten days; they'd depleted their stash of snacks when coming home late from stakeouts and nights spent staring at the board in the bullpen trying to make the connections and evidence make sense because they'd just been so hungry.

Finally, she spotted a bag of dark chocolate she'd bought when the stores first started selling Valentine's candy at the beginning of the month. She smiled as she grabbed the bag then eyed the upper cabinet where they kept the alcohol. Whiskey would take comfort to a whole new level.

She grabbed the bottle and walked back up the stairs and into the room just as Jay was hanging up the phone.

He smiled at her, "Placed the order. The girl's thinking thirty to forty-five minutes. I don't think that's too bad."

"Not at all," Hailey sat on the bed and held up the chocolate and whiskey, "Look what I have to hold us over."

"Oh, perfect," Jay reached over to take the whiskey from her. He quickly unscrewed the top and tipped it back in his mouth.

Hailey laughed and shook her head, "You are something else." She unwrapped one of the chocolates and held it up, "You want this?"

"Sure," Jay put his hand out.

Hailey shook her head and scooted closer to him. She lightly pressed the chocolate to his mouth until he took it between his teeth with a wink. Hailey smiled then nudged his cheek with her nose.

"Jay?" she breathed.

He hummed and turned to look at her brushing his nose to hers as a smile formed on his own lips.

"You…" Hailey whispered, "You are the best thing that's ever happened to me and I love you so much and I don't know if I'll ever be able to repay you."

"Hey," Jay broke away from her to put the whiskey down on the side table before gathering Hailey up in his arms, "Don't talk like that. I am not the-"

"Jay," Hailey shook her head, "You taught me that I'm someone – that I am a person who's worth remembering her favorite food and holding in bed all day, that I am a person who's worthy of being loved like this. The universe placed me in Intelligence so that we could meet and I am grateful every day that it connected me to you."

Jay smiled then kissed her slowly. Hailey dropped the bag of chocolates on the bed to tangle her fingers in his hair as he pressed her down onto the mattress. For as fun and sexy as the morning had been, this instance was slow and loving and neither ever wanted it to end.

The doorbell rang for the third time and Jay ran downstairs while tugging on his pants with Hailey laughing at him from the bed. He tripped into the door smacking his head against it before he managed to get it open.

"Hi," he greeted the delivery driver.

The teenage boy stared at him shirtless and panting then held out a white plastic bag, "I have your food."

"Cool," Jay looked around, "Uh…let's see, money, money…" He grabbed his wallet off the table it always sat on next to the door and quickly pulled out thirty dollars, "I think this is enough."

"It's way too much," the boy said.

"Happy Valentine's Day," Jay pushed the money toward him and grabbed the bag.

"Wait, I need to get your change," the boy unzipped his fanny pack.

"Listen, kid, my wife is naked up in my bed right now, I don't have time for change," Jay put his hand on the door, "Have a nice day and thanks for driving out here." He closed the door, locked it, then hurried back up to his room where Hailey was pulling his t-shirt on.

"No, no," Jay groaned, "Come on, I thought we could just eat without clothes on."

"There is nothing sexy about eating Chinese food while naked," Hailey laughed and sat up against the headboard, "You're wearing pants anyways."

"Fine," Jay sighed and set the bag on the mattress.

"Oh, careful, don't spill it," Hailey grabbed his arm.

Jay raised an eyebrow, "Pretty sure we're going to be changing these sheets tonight anyways."

"It's still gross," Hailey shrugged. Her eyes suddenly widened and she pulled at his arm again, "What happened to your head?"

Jay raised an eyebrow then remembered what she was talking about. He lightly touched his forehead, "I kinda ran into the door downstairs."

"Forget that we had one?" Hailey asked and tugged at his arm until he was pulled down in front of her so she could get a better look at the red bump, "Jay, this is a decent bump."

"I'm fine," Jay waved his hand, "Just clumsy."

"I'll say," Hailey sighed and let him go, "Clumsiest person I know."

Jay chuckled and kissed her quickly before straightening up and carefully pulling all the food out.

Hailey smiled at him and accepted her food, "Thank you. It smells so good."

"I didn't make it," Jay smirked and sat next to her. He opened the container of his food, "Oh, yeah, this is so good."

"Pretty sure you were saying that to me this morning," Hailey nudged his shoulder, "Are you saying I could have gotten that response by feeding you noodles?"

Jay laughed, "I'm saying this food looks delicious, but I'm also saying it has nothing on you."

"Good," Hailey kissed him again. She poked one of her pieces of chicken with her fork, "Want some."

"Sure," Jay leaned over and bit the food off her fork, "Thank you. Some of mine?"

"Of course," Hailey laughed softly and took the beef from him, "Now that's delicious."

"That's what I said!" Jay smiled and continued eating.

Hailey sipped the whiskey from the bottle then turned on the TV, "Wanna watch a movie?"

Jay nodded, "Yeah, anything you want."

Hailey flipped through the channels until she landed on a movie she was sure they'd seen a hundred times. She settled back into the pillows as she ate and got lost in the comfort of the moment.

Hailey's head was resting on Jay's chest while he lazily played with her hair as their third movie of the day came to a close.

Jay reached over Hailey to find the remote tucked away in the blankets. Instead, he found a chocolate forgotten long ago. He chuckled and unwrapped it then touched it to Hailey's lips.

She smiled, but still ate it. Once she was finished chewing and Jay had turned off the TV, she whispered, "That was warm."

Jay chuckled and squeezed her against him, "Wonder why."

Hailey laughed softly and pressed her face into his chest as she yawned.

"Sleep," Jay ran his fingers through her hair, "I'm not going anywhere."

"I hope not," Hailey mumbled.

Jay kissed the top of her head, "I love you, Hailey Anne."

"Love you too, Jay," Hailey breathed.

Jay tried not to laugh too loud, but he still felt it rumble through his chest and move Hailey's head. She didn't seem to mind, though, and just tightened her hold on him.

Jay pulled at all the blankets until they were effectively covered and weighted down into the mattress. Hailey moaned in approval and slipped her warm hand under his t-shirt to lightly trace his chest. In return, Jay pushed the back of her shirt up and rubbed small circles on her lower back.

Hailey idly kissed his chest a few times then gave into her sleep.

Jay smirked when the first snore escaped her lips.

She may think he was the best thing that happened to her and he was trying to wrap his head around that title because he truly was trying to understand how he could have gotten as lucky as he had with her. She saved his life, so by all means was he going to dedicate all his days to memorizing her food orders and the places on her skin that made her shiver when he kissed them.

Hailey Anne Halstead deserved the world and Jay Halstead was going to give it to her.
