June

Hailey woke with a soft moan and rolled onto her back.

The hotel bed was the softest thing she had ever slept on in her life. She loved the bright white sheets and comforter that matched the curtains currently blowing in the wind from the open window.

She smiled as the breeze brushed against her face. The sun shining in felt warm on her skin. It was the most relaxed she had felt in weeks.

She didn't want to leave Greece, so she needed to soak in these last 24 hours. Their honeymoon had just been to Florida, but they really had only had a couple weeks to plan it; their one-year needed to be bigger and better and it was.

They explored Athens, they went kayaking, they laid out on the beach, they did a wine tasting…it was everything Hailey ever wanted to do with Jay.

Jay walked out of their bathroom and smiled, "Good morning, sleepy head."

Hailey laughed and put her hand out, "You left me alone."

Jay chuckled as he grabbed her hand and crawled on top of her, "I needed to go to the bathroom, is that allowed?"

"I guess," Hailey kissed him and wrapped her arms around his neck, "I missed you though."

"Missed me?" Jay pushed the blankets off of her, "It had barely been two minutes."

Hailey shrugged and hooked her leg over his pulling him down closer to her. Her fingers ghosted down his spine tracing along each bone as his nose lightly bumped hers. She smiled against his lips and whispered, "I love you."

"I love you too," Jay chuckled and pulled away, "What should we do on our last day?"

Hailey lightly touched the slight sunburn on his nose, "How's this feel? Think you can go back out in the sun?"

Jay rolled his eyes, "Yes, I can go back out in the sun. I'm not a vampire."

"Don't want it to blister," Hailey laughed softly, "Because I wouldn't mind going back to the beach."

"We'll go to the beach," Jay kissed her, "After we spend more time here." His hand trailed up her bare side with his fingers lightly dancing along her skin.

Hailey arched her back and moaned, "I like that idea."

Jay smiled and kissed his way down her throat.

Hailey leaned back on her towel and tipped her head up to the sun, "I never want to go home."

Jay laughed and rolled onto his stomach, "Then let's stay here forever. Let's move to Greece."

Hailey smiled and looked at him, "You'd drop your life in Chicago?"

"To make you happy, I'd do anything," Jay said.

Hailey lowered herself down and reached over to lightly trace a line of freckles on Jay's arm, "I'm pretty lucky."

"Why do you say that?" Jay asked softly.

"Because I have you," Hailey breathed, "Look at us. We've been married a year. Really, we've only been together for two years, that's kind of crazy."

Jay chuckled, "Yeah, I guess it is a little crazy."

Hailey turned to her side, "You treat me like some princess-"

"Goddess," Jay winked.

Hailey laughed shaking her head, "Dork."

"When in Athens," Jay smirked.

Hailey laughed harder and rolled back to soak in the sun, "The point is, you're so good to me. You'd give me anything in the world, but you still let me be a person. You're not controlling or suffocating. You've given me a life I love." She faced him again, "So thank you."

"Hey," Jay lightly brushed her damp hair from her face, "I'm giving you this life because you gave me a life. I've said it before and I'll say it again – you saved me. We're in this together."

Hailey smiled and leaned across the towel to kiss him before whispering, "I love you."

Jay bit his lip slightly then whispered back, "You've been saying that a lot this week."

Hailey gasped and laughed sitting up, "Jay Halstead! Rude."

He laughed with her, "Just stating a fact, Hailey Halstead."

"Say it back," she lightly shoved him.

"Fine, fine," Jay chuckled, "I love you too."

"Doesn't count now," Hailey sat up on her knees.

"Oh really?" Jay grabbed her around the middle and pulled her on top of him.

Hailey tried rolling away as Jay tickled her there on the beach. They were both lost in the moment and never wanting it to end. They weren't just two cops from Chicago living out their honeymoon dream, they were two people in love and it was amazing.

"I'm coming, I'm coming, don't move."

Hailey laughed and waited for Jay to run around the car to open her door. Once he did, she smiled and turned her legs out, "What a gentleman."

"Oh, it gets better," Jay smiled and slipped his arms around her.

Hailey laughed harder, "You don't have to carry me. We've already done that whole thing last year."

"But it's a new house," Jay carried her to their front door, "And it's been a year. My wife doesn't need to have her feet touch the ground."

Hailey's smile widened, "You really are treating me like a goddess."

"Told you," Jay winked then kissed her with his hand on the doorknob. "Welcome home, Mrs. Halstead."

Hailey wrapped her arms around his neck, "I've been home."

Jay chuckled against her lips, "Cheesy, I love it."

Hailey kissed his cheek, "I knew you would."

"Okay, ready?" Jay asked before suddenly dropping Hailey over the back of the couch. He held up a finger, "I'll go get the suitcases first this time before getting on top of you."

Hailey's laughter filled the living room as Jay ran out of the house. He returned a minute later and threw their suitcases toward the stairs then slammed the door close.

Jay jumped over the couch and landed on top of Hailey. He laughed as she gasped, "Sorry, sorry."

"Just shut up," Hailey pulled him down to kiss him. She was lost in it for a moment before whispering, "A year. It's been a year."

"I know," Jay brushed her hair back from her face, "Best year of my life."

Hailey smiled and lightly touched his face, "You did get sunburned."

Jay chuckled, "Because you're such a light."

Hailey burst into laughter. She felt her heart warm as his laugh joined hers.

Jay's faded first and he began lightly kissing across her cheeks. His nose nudged her ear then he whispered, "Can we just hide forever?"

"Hmm?" Hailey giggled and gently pulled his head to look him in the eyes.

"I don't want to go to work tomorrow," Jay said, "Let's hide out here. It's not fair."

Hailey smirked, "Jay…"

"Come on," he squeezed her waist, "Take another day off with me."

Hailey held back a soft moan as Jay's fingers slipped under the waistband of her leggings.

"Just think about it," Jay kissed under her ear, "You, me, and one more day of honeymoon."

Hailey caught her breath, "All right. One more day."

Jay smiled and kissed her quickly, "Perfect, have any plans?"

Hailey's lips tipped up, "Just you."

The next afternoon, Hailey slowly walked down the stairs with the silky robe Vanessa had bought her the year before tied around her waist. She smiled at the trail of clothes she and Jay had left throughout the bottom floor and the long forgotten suitcases still sitting by the stairs.

She made her way to the kitchen to begin a pot of coffee. It was pushing 1pm, but she hadn't even left their bedroom in hours. Jay was the one who insisted on getting them breakfast and ordering all their food. She didn't mind one bit.

Hailey was pouring the hot drinks into two mugs when Jay came around the corner fresh out of the shower. She smiled since he only had a pair of boxers on and whistled softly.

"Look at you," she said.

Jay laughed and grabbed her around the waist, "And what exactly are you wearing under that robe?"

Hailey shrugged and sipped her coffee. She set the mug down then began untying the robe, "You tell me."

Just as Jay was lifting her on the counter for the second time within 24 hours, there was a sharp knock on the front door.

Hailey pulled away from Jay with a quick inhale, "Did you order more food?"

"No," Jay helped her off the counter before searching the floor for more clothes.

And that's when their world flipped upside down.

"Jay! You here?"

"Hailey! Call out!"

Hailey's eyes widened at Adam and Kim's voices. She dove for her robe and tried getting it on as fast as possible.

Jay stood frozen next to the kitchen table.

"Jay!" Kim yelled, her voice coming closer to the kitchen. She stopped where the carpet met the tile and stared with wide eyes at the near naked couple.

"Where in the-" Adam stopped talking when he came around the other way.

They were all stuck in their places – Hailey absolutely mortified, Jay in shock, Adam amused, and Kim appeared annoyed.

Adam was the first to move. He took a step further into the kitchen and bent down to pick up Jay's t-shirt from the day before, "Here, man, you might want this."

"What are you doing here?" Hailey whispered.

"You didn't come into work today," Kim said slowly, "We were worried."

"Hailey called in," Jay said.

Hailey's eyes widened, "I did not. You did!"

"Uh, no," Jay shook his head.

"Oh, this is good," Adam laughed, "You two played hooky to have sex."

"Kim!" Vanessa screamed into the house, "What is going on?"

"No, no, no," Hailey backed up into the sink.

Jay grabbed his shirt from Adam to pull it on. The second he did, Kevin and Vanessa entered the kitchen from the living room.

"Thank god," Vanessa ran over to Hailey and hugged her tightly, "I thought you were dead."

Hailey weakly laughed, "Physically alive. Mentally and emotionally dead."

Kevin smirked at Jay, "Look at you in your underwear. How cute."

"Who else is coming?" Jay asked, already hating the answer.

"What's happening?" Hank asked as he walked in the house, "Why haven't I gotten any calls?"

He walked around near Adam then stopped with his eyes trained on the sight in front of him. He pursed his lips and set his jaw. It took him a minute before he said, "If you don't live in this house, walk out. Now."

Hailey closed her eyes as everyone left in silence – well, near silence; she could still hear soft chuckles coming from Adam and Kevin.

"So," Hank cleared his throat, "You skip work-"

"Sarge, we thought we called off," Jay said quietly.

Hank glared at him, "But you didn't. And even if you did, this clearly isn't a sick day."

"No," Jay shook his head.

Hank looked between the two of them, "I expected more."

"I'm sorry," Hailey breathed.

"Get dressed and get to work, you have half an hour," Hank said.

"Copy," Jay nodded.

"You're working a day of overtime this weekend," Hank continued, "And definitely not together. Upton has Saturday; Halstead has Sunday." He shook his head in disbelief then walked out.

Hailey rubbed her face, "Oh my god."

"I'm so sorry," Jay looked at her.

Hailey laughed quietly, "It's not your fault. I wanted to stay home with you too."

"God," Jay breathed out and ran a hand through his hair, "Well…let's go."

Hailey started following him up the stairs then began laughing more until it was loud and she had to hold herself up on the railing.

Jay turned around, "What is so funny?"

Hailey laughed, "I always thought I'd lose my job because I crossed a line with you, not because I'd be caught sleeping with you in my own house."

Jay chuckled under his breath, "We didn't lose our jobs."

"Could have," Hailey smiled and patted his chest as she walked passed him still laughing, "Would have been worth it though."

Jay smiled after her and let out a laugh.

When he met Hailey, she never would have been caught dead jeopardizing her job for a man, but then they became friends and she crossed a couple lines as he did to keep him safe. Friendship turned into dating and their bond became stronger and it truly peaked over the last year as they were married.

They'd do anything for each other even if it was risking their job – sometimes that meant threatening suspects to find out where the other was and sometimes that meant skipping work to spend the day in bed.

Jay had no regrets and based on Hailey's laughter still coming from their bedroom, neither did she.

Jay smiled and went into their room. He had no doubts that he married the right woman.

She saved his life. He brought love into hers.

One year down, forever to go.

A/N: Hey! Thank you all so so much for reading this story. I loved coming up with different scenarios for each month of their marriage. Thank you to everyone on Twitter who helped me out at some points. This last bit is based on Chp15 from "We Can" where Kim and Vanessa say they were shocked Jay and Hailey didn't get fired for 'forgetting' they needed to return to work after their anniversary trip. Anyways, I hope you liked this one! Now I'm going to return to freaking out over 8x11 on Twitter :P Talk soon!
