The Tailblade

Three days time passed rather quickly as Cyril continued his students training in secret. He dared not breath a word to the other students as he feared their parents might be watching. Having six students made the risk of the detection rather low, yet he wished that he could get more students to train. Cyril knew that he eventually would need to teach them about weapons, if they wished to stand a chance against the apes. At the same time he didn't want to push his students too much. Cyril looked down at his own blade, as he remembered the time he received his very first one.

It had happened many moons ago when Cyril was very young, however unlike the other whelps, he had very little gems to his name. Cyril was much older than most of the other children, the elders at the time were against training him for fear that he was too old. Cyril didn't feel comfortable to be around the other whelps and spent most of his time in the library. Books were much more of his fancy and no one would whisper of the many scars across his back. It was his safe zone and he felt at peace to be away from his rigid farther.

"Found anything interesting young Cyril?" The librarian asked.

"Oh madam Amarite I didn't see you there. I was just looking into the origins of the ice dragons." Cyril replied with a blush. Amarite always seemed to cause him to feel a bit small, as though he was hatchling. At sometimes he wished that she could have been his mother.

"Learning about your history I see, some of these old books are full of many lessons." Amarite the dragon chuckled. She always liked seeing young Cyril around some how it made things more bright. In a way she saw him almost like one of her own kids and he was quite bright. Amarite was the one to take him in after he collapsed and nursed him back to health. She always was willing to help others who were less fortunate. No one really wanted to do anything with Cyril as he was seen as an outsider.

"They are indeed, I feel quite bad for Aquina the water dragon who couldn't make it through the icy lands. It felt wrong for her life to just end like that." Cyril sobbed.

"There there Cyril, if it had not been for her misfortune the ice dragons themselves would never have been created." Amarite spoke.

"But its just not fair!" Cyril cried. "She… she… she was… so young."

Amarite hugged the poor dragon. "There there it will be okay. One day you will be just as powerful as she is."

"How? I am so much weaker than she was and I don't even have a lot of treasures to my name." Cyril replied as she looked up to her.

"Even so I can sense you have great power flowing within you. Come child I will escort you back to your den." Amarite replied.

Cyril felt surprised at this thought, but decided not to argue this point as Amarite led him back to his den.

Cyril broke from his dream and looked around his training room, somewhere in the corner he spotted a very old tail blade from long ago. He was unsure of what to make of it. From what he could tell it appeared to be a child's tail blade and though it was covered in dirt there was a small glimmer from the blade. How it had gotten here he didn't know. Maybe it was his destiny to find this odd blade. It would make a fine blade for one of his rabbit students, but it would need a lot of cleaning before it could be usable. Cyril decided to take it towards the lake to wash it.

When he reached the lake after walking for about 30 minutes or so he set about the task at hand. He was able to remove some of the dirt, but somehow as he tried to get more of it off, it slipped out of his paws. He tried to reach out for it, but missed it as steadily sank towards the bottom of the lake. Cyril dove in and began to look for it, searching high and low for it. Yet the blade was no where to be found. Cyril let out a few tears of pity at how careless he was at losing the blade, now he would never know what lay beneath all the dirt. Cyril decided to see what his his students were doing so he took to the air. Being in the air gave him a sense of freedom and helped dry his tears and as he traveled he noticed how small everyone looked.

Somewhere off to his left he saw two of his pupils and so he decided to come in for a landing. The two bunnies rush towards him as they were quite eager to see him.

"Hello master Cyril." The two rabbits chimed in.

"Hello Azalla and Feather how are you two doing?" Cyril asked.

"We had some nice carrots and cabbage to eat, though we are looking forward to our next lessons." Azalla and Feather replied.

"That's good cause I got some new lessons for you." Cyril replied.

"Really what is it?" Feather asked.

"Oh something special." Cyril replied.

"Oh I can't wait to see it." Azalla replied.

Cyril chuckled as he led the two bunnies into the training room and handed them a mop and a broom. The two children blinked a bit as they eyed the instruments.

"Erm Master Cyril what are we supposed to do with these?" Feather asked.

"Well they are for you to clean the training room." Cyril replied.

"I thought you were going to show us something interesting, not make us do chores." Azalla spoke up.

"I know this is not what you expected, but taking the time to relax and do chores will make you stronger for the battle ahead." Cyril replied.

"Mother makes us do them in the burrow and its not really all that interesting." Azalla chimed in.

"Doing chores is important even if it not as much fun. I had to do chores when I was younger." Cyril replied.

The two bunnies set down the equipment on the round and proceeded to head out the door. "For you it worked, but for us we are going to head back to our burrow to play."

"Oh come on you two, I could really use your help." Cyril replied.

The two bunnies just glanced at him before hopping off towards home. Cyril let out a sigh as he shook his head. "The youngsters are always off in a hurry."

As he started the cleaning on his own he wondered about Aquina. "I don't know if you can hear me Aquina, a lot has changed in my life. An ape attack is coming to Munitions Forge in two weeks and I fear that my small class is not enough to stop them. The villagers of this snow bank don't want anything to do with me. I fear I may have pushed them too far." Cyril spoke. "If your out there please send me your protection, even a small symbol to give me guidance in the coming days."

Cyril let out a sigh as he decided to get back to cleaning the floors. He knew there was very little chance that Aquina had heard him. Yet he still felt like she was out there somewhere.

Now Aquina was much closer than Cyril had thought. She had decided to take a bit of a vacation in the frozen waters of Munitions Forge. She had only arrived yesterday and was taking a tour of the various sea creatures that populated the area. She chuckled at the antics of the dolphins, tried to swim like the sea lions, and played a game of chase with the penguins. She really enjoyed playing with her new found friends. Aquina had always been a playful water dragon, even after her unfortunate mishap with the frozen water long ago. She fought the best she could do, but despite all the hardships she had to endure, and even her own death, someone had taken pity on her. Aquina thought it was all just a dream as if she was still asleep. Somehow in the midst of the water she found the strength to pull herself onto the icy landscape and fell asleep.

When she awoke, many forest animals had surrounded her and kept her warm through the night. Her body had changed though most of her water dragon features had remained the same. Her tail blade was an icy blue color that looked like a small sword and her winged ears had a frostiness to them. It had frightened her at first, but soon she learned what new powers she possessed. As Aquina broke out of her daydream, she noticed that all her water friends were gone. Out of the corner of her eye she saw something glint off in the distance and so she swam towards it. When she got close enough she began to examine it and noticed the amount of dirt and rust on it. It seemed the blade hadn't been used in quite a long time, the tail blade was quite small and upon further examination she knew there was only one person who had possessed such a blade.

"Cyril?" Aquina spoke.

(Author's notes: I was unable to add a lot of detail to this chapter as it felt pretty good. I figured it be fitting to have a character that Cyril looks up to and is kind of legend in the ice dragon community. I wanted to give a snippet of the way that the ice dragons came into being. So I decided to toy around with Aquina being this tragic character who died really young, yet sparked off the generation of ice dragons that would follow in her wake. The guardians never really had all that much of a backstory in the games and so I figured why not expand a bit about their feelings and childhood. Aquina is an important character will play a big roll in some of the later chapters.

I really hope that you enjoyed this story so far and the many twists and turns this story has taken. More chapters will soon follow though it does take time to write them up and figure out where to take them.)
