Walking along the beach Kate could feel the soft sand against her bare feet. Looking ahead she could see Sovay and Aimee running off ahead.
"not too far" she called wanting them to stay where she could see them
Stopping at the water's edge she could feel the cool water lapping against her feet, feeling Mike stop next to her wrapping his arm around her. She could see he was carrying a baby in his arms
"hey" he smiled softly teasing her in to a kiss.
Looking up in to his eyes she Smiled softly, brushing her hand across the baby's hair it was dark and curly like his fathers and he had his dads steel blue eyes.
Turning to see where the girls had got to, but she couldn't see with the sun being so low in the sky it created a haze
Covering her eyes, she squinted to try and see, she could see Where the girls were hiding. As her eyes slowly adjusted to the light, she could see that the girls were being led off by Jim
"Girls!" she called trying to run towards them but she couldn't reach them, even running as fast as she could she seemed to be routed to the same spot, turning Mike was now stood on his own walking in the opposite direction up the beach squinting she turned back to look at where the girls were going. Sovay and Aimee were now just shadows in the distance. Trying to run after them again she was rooted to the same spot the waves crashing in swirling around her ankles adding to the difficulty of her catching up and trying to get to the girls. the water swirled around her feet pulling her back in to the sea
"no! she called out, reaching with her hand trying to pull herself from the force pulling her back and away from the girls She watched as Jim turned around, she could have sworn she saw a look of glee grow across his face leading the twins off the beach and out of sight...
"NO!" she cried her eyes shooting open, sitting bolt upright, breathing heavily she collapsed right in to Mikes arms, her fear turning to sobs.
"hey" Mike said softly running his fingers through her hair. Looking up he saw a nurse standing in the door way slightly. "bad dream" he said smiling up at the nurse
Standing in the door way just a little too long to show she was annoyed at having to leave her coffee and seat she turned on her heal walking back to the nurse's station.
Sighing softly Mike looked down at Kate. "you okay now" he said softly as her sobs subsided and her breathing slowed
Burying her face in to his shoulder she nodded slowly. "it was the Girls" she whispered pulling back looking up in to his eyes
"it was just a dream" he said brushing her hair from her face
"Jim wants to take the girls. In my dream i was on the beach and Jim had the twins and you were there but you walked away. When I turned Jim was taking the twins and I couldn't get to them even running as fast as I could and the waves were pulling me back in to the water and I called but you didn't come back and I couldn't stop Jim taking the girls" she whispered the tears falling
"oh Kate" Mike sighed resting his chin on her head, holding her close, as the tears fell. "I would never leave you" he said softly running his fingers down her hair wishing he could take her pain away.
"but Jim really wants to take the girls away, he is suing for full custody, I got the letter before I fell." she said
"we can fight this" Mike said kissing the top of her head.
"but..." she said softly
"i won't let him take them away. I Promise you" he whispered in to her hair, pressing his lips against her head
Slowly Kate managed to calm down and drifted back to sleep resting against Mike's shoulder. Carefully he slid his arm from under her so she was lay down properly. Sitting back in his chair he sighed it was just after 2am. Leaning back in his seat he hoped he could get a few hours of shut-eye. Being in the navy he had gotten used to functioning on a few hours' sleep.
Waking several hours later Kate woke to the sun creeping through the thin curtains along the window. stretching out she looked over to the seat next to the bed expecting to see Mike but the chair was empty.
Curling up she pulled the sheet right up pulled the blanket over her shoulder feeling alone even more so.
"morning" he smiled walking in the door half an hour later carrying a paper bag and 2 cups. "i thought you might like a decent cup of tea" he said placing them on the table
"thanks" she smiled pushing herself up, the nurse had removed the drip line earlier.
"one earl Gray tea" he said handing her the cup "and I also got you a bacon sandwich" he smiled
"thank you" she smiled weakly taking a sip of her drink, it was slightly cold but that could have been because if the trip up from the café to the ward.
At that moment both girls ran in to the room.
"Mummy" they both said climbing on to the bed,
"Girls remember what I said about Mummy" Nikki said as she walked in placing a bag on the foot of the bed. "how you doing kit-kat?" she asked
"so-so" Kate forced a smile. "thanks for bringing the clothes." she said
"i don't think you will be saying that when you see what's in there., the girls chose everything, and wouldn't let me look this morning. So I have no clue as to what they packed" Nikki grinned
"I am sure it will be fine" she said pulling both girls in to a hug. "I hope you two have been good for auntie Nikki" she said
"we have. She let us have Maccas' and ice cream last night" Aimee said with glee.
"why did you have to stay in the hospital?" Sovay asked
"well..." Kate paused
"Mummy hurt her head and the doctor wanted to make sure her brain didn't fall out through her nose " Mike grinned
Both girls giggled looking at Mike, Kate sighed rolling her eyes looking at Mike
"right come on Girls" Nikki smiled "we best get you off to school"
"aww" Aimee said.
"go on please" Kate smiled "i will be home later" she said
"okay" both girls said sadly
"have a good day at school" she kissed each of them "and learn something fun" she called as they walked out of the room.
Nikki walked after them turning "are you sure you are, okay?"
"yes" Kate forced a smile again. "i will be if I can get out of here and sleep in my own bed" she said.
Once Nikki and the girls had gone Kate looked over at the bag which was on the end of the bed. The girls had managed to pull out her old sea bag. Carefully pulling the zip open she prayed that the girls had at least been sensible in what they had chosen.
She was wrong. The only clothes the girls had put in was a pair of purple leggings, a bright red long sleeve t-shirt that had a devil printed on the front and a hot pink tutu. There was one of her old maternity t-shirts that was screwed up in the corner. It was white with a faded transfer showing a heavily pregnant woman with several kids and in a bold type face it said 'it started with a kiss and ended like this'
Staring at it for a while she remembered wearing it all the time when she was pregnant with the girls, it was usually when she was on her own as Jim said it was embarrassing and the picture was tacky. Folding it up she stuffed it back in the bag.
There were also some other really random bits in between the clothes like Aimee's princess crown, a bath duck dressed as a navy officer, a skipping rope, a water gun, a half-completed kid colouring book, a half-eaten chocolate bar and Sovay had put her favourite teddy in.
Unfortunately, they had neglected to include any clean underwear. And the only shoes they had packed were a pair of silver sparkly sandles with a 6 inch heal that she hadn't really warn since the 90's
"well looks like I will be leaving here as coco the clown" she said looking down at the outfit the girls had picked
"purple tights?" Mike questioned
"yeah, I brought them for Halloween because the girls insisted, I had to have a costume and go as a purple princess but the only dang outfit the store had was more see through than a window. Kate smiled placing all the things back in the bag resting her outfit on the top before putting the bag on the second chair next to her bed.
She smiled at least the girls had give her a Compleat outfit of sorts even if it was a colour clash, and she was only going from the hospital to the car to the house so it didn't really matter and she was touched at the girls for all the little extras they had added although if she did have to stay in again which she hoped she didn't but if she did then Sovay may be a tad upset and want too come back to claim her teddy.
so heyyy sorry its taken a while but i was really struggling with this as i really wanted it to sound right especially after the last chapter. anyway i really hope you like it and this time i really do have 2 more chapters to add as i decided to split this chapter in to two. anyway enjoy and let me know what you think x
