It was a beautiful summer day. The sun was shining on Green Hill, like almost every day. It was one of those weather to want to spend your day outside, have fun and enjoy this soft light, and that's actually what most mobians did. But a house remained occupied, a Mobian refused to go out. Not because he didn't like the sun and the outdoor, he loved it itself. No, if he didn't go out, it was because he was even more passionate about what he was doing in his house. Because this house is not only his home, but also his laboratory and his workshop. This Mobian in was Miles Prower, more often called Tails at his request. And Tails was a mechanical enthusiast, who loved to spend hours in his studio inventing things and repairing inventions that allowed him and other Freedom Fighters to protect the world from the evil Dr. Eggman. And today he was back in his workshop, doing the last repairs on the X Tornado, his plane, which had taken serious damage six months earlier, during the Metarex war. A war that cost them a lot, because its end signed the death warrant of one of their friends, and tails' only love, Cosmo. And that's why he took so long to fix it, because he just came out of a deep depression. But his friends had helped him out, telling him that he had to continue living, for her, in her memory. And he had followed this advice, and that is how, for 1 month, he had tried to relive normally, turning this dreadful page of his life by going back to work.

He was busy making the final adjustments to the engine under the plane, lying on a wheeled cart. We could hear the sound of bangs on metal parts, electrical wire connections or tight bolts. But all of a sudden, the noise stopped, immediately followed by a cry of joy.

The Wheeled cart came out of the underside of the plane's carcass, revealing Tails covered in grease and oil lying on the wagon. Once freed from this cramped space, he sat down, and wiped the sweat on his forehead.

"Oof! I'm finally done! He said, visibly exhausted.

"Great! We'll be able to try it now! I was tired of waiting! »

Tails turned to see the person who say these words: it was Sonic the hedgehog, mobius's hero and Tails' best friend. They were like brothers, so much so that Sonic had decided to move in with Tails during his depression, so that he could be available to help him at any time. He was sitting on the left wing of the X Tornado, patiently waiting for Tails, swinging his legs in the air. Tails chuckled at this vision: Sonic had always been a very active person, who refused to stand by and do nothing. It had already been very nice to stay there nicely until Tails finished repairing the X-Tornado. He looked at Sonic, smiling and wiping his forehead again, still sweating.

"Wait two seconds, I must ...?"

"What?" interrupted Sonic with a little impatience in his voice, "You're done, right?"

"Yes," added Tails, unsuringly cut off, "But if you'd let me finish, I'd have told you I needed to take a shower! I don't want to fly in that state. »

Sonic looked at Tails from top to bottom, and noticed that he was right. He smiled, embarrassed at having spoken too quickly.

"Oops! Sorry, Tails, you're right!" shrugging his shoulders with an embarrassed smile.

"It doesn't matter," tails said, having trouble holding back from laughing, "I've got five minutes. You can settle into the X-Tornado until I get back. »

"It works captain!" laughed Sonic as he stood on the wing of the plane.

Tails burst out laughing, like Sonic, and then walked to his bathroom. Sonic watched him walk away, tears in his eyes so he had laughed. He was happy to see his little brother laugh like that. He was glad to see that he had regained some joy in his life. Even though he knew that deep down the little fox was still deeply affected by Cosmo's death, and that he would never recover from it, he had done everything so that he could turn the page and resume a normal life, and he felt more and more that he was reaching the goal. This thought made him smile, and it was smiling when he went to the cockpit of the plane to settle there. He opened the cockpit and sat in the rear seat, which had not been occupied for nearly six months. A strange feeling crossed Sonic at that moment, and a wave of remembrance rose to him: how many times he had been seated in this place, either during their journey to Earth or during the Metarex war. Rehashing these memories of the past, he put his hand on either side of his bench and clung to each of his edges. But at the right edge, he felt a small metal object. He initially thought it was a piece of the plane, but when he moved his hand, the object seemed to sink and roll a little, like a coin stuck between the place of a sofa. He freed his left hand, and used it to catch the object with both hands, trying to extract it from the small space in which he was stuck with his fingers. He eventually managed to catch the object by pinching it between his index fingers, and extracting it from the slot. And the sight of the object in question caused Sonic to move back to the left edge of the aircraft and caused him to drop the object, which fell on the right side of the seat. It was a small, colorful and well polished metal flower. And Sonic knew where this object came from. Because of the surprise, he did not realize that he was speaking aloud:

"Oh no, he shouldn't see that!"

"See what?"

Sonic jumped when he heard this voice, and turned to see through the still open cockpit Tails, who was back in the workshop and who was now near the X-Tornado, looking at Sonic interrogatively. Sonic, noticing this, tried to regain a neutral face, hiding the object as best he could behind his back. But, as he had been caught red-handed, he had trouble being convincing and he was silly, making it clear that he was lying.

"I'm not hiding anything from you, what makes you think that?"

"Stop lying to me Sonic! Even Knuckles would see you lying! What are you hiding from me?" Tails asked, amused to see Sonic like that.

But Sonic was in a panic. Tails wasn't supposed to see that flower, otherwise he'd relapse, and he was so close to the goal. He couldn't lose everything now and he didn't want to see his unhappy little brother like he used to. So he continued to lie, but he was now sweating.

"No, I assure you! There is no problem! We can go! »

"Stop it!" Tails says, both worried and angry now, "what should I not see?"

Sonic felt unmasked. He had heard it when he thought he was speaking in his head. Now he couldn't dodge, he had to face it. He took a determined look and, while continuing to hide the object, spoke again.

"I wouldn't show you Tails! I don't have to do it! It would hurt you too much. »

This time, Tails was really angry and determinate. He jumped into the air and began to fly. He took Sonic by surprise by passing him and taking the object from his hands, accelerated by the initial impulse. He landed at his starting point and glanced coldly at Sonic, the point still closed on the object. He then turned to his fist and opened it, under the panicked eyes of his friend. His expression then changed completely when he saw that it was the flower he had given to Cosmo. His gaze went from anger to deep sadness, and he began to cry as he looked at the flower, which he now held with both hands. Sonic was now looking at Tails with his eyes full of sadness, feeling as if he was back a month ago. He didn't know what to say to comfort him. He tried to speak, however, only to be cut off immediately by the fox.

"I need to be alone Sonic" he said, weeping.

"But, Tails ..." Sonic replied, worried.

"I'm telling you I need to be alone!" he repeated rather authoritatively.

Sonic was shocked by the tone used by his friend, and wanted to answer, but Tails was already heading up the stairs, apparently to his room. Usually, Sonic would probably have let him evacuate and stayed in the workshop for a few hours, waiting for him to comfort him, but then he had to act. And he has a plan. But he couldn't act alone. He decided to go to Amy, who would certainly be able to help him to realize his plan. He rushed out of the workshop. Before going out, he glanced one last look up the stairs, hearing Tails cry from afar.

"Don't worry Buddy," he thought, "I'll be back soon."

Sonic went away at the speed of sound. Meanwhile, Tails sat on his bed, crying, staring at the little metal flower he was holding in his hands. She meant so much to Cosmo when she was still alive. He still remembers the time he had offered her.

It was a normal day on the Blue Typhoon. Since the Metarex had not been a problem for several days, Tails had decided with Chris to make some repairs and improvements to the Blue Typhoon's engine. He had just gone to get crates of spare parts and tools to the engine room. It was a large pile of crates, which prevented him from flying to go faster and completely blocked his view. He could see nothing, but he could still hear footsteps approaching; sounds of rapid footsteps, as if the person was running; the sound of heels also coming from his right. Tails, intrigued, looked at what was in front of him, only to see that he was at an intersection. On the other hand, he did not have time to see the person who was running, and they were crashed down before he could see anything. Tails dropped all his boxes in shock and fell. He rubbed his head a little after the shock and looked at who he had hit. It was Cosmo, who was also seated, a little shocked. She finally opened her eyes, and she looked distraught as she looked at Tails on the floor and the boxes she was carrying. She got up and began to pick them up at full speed, apologizing to Tails.

"Sorry Tail!" she said, visibly sorry, but also in a hurry, "I'm so clumsy."

"You don't have to be sorry," he replied, laying the last box Cosmo had dropped on his crate pile, "All is good."

Tails wanted to follow up by offering Cosmo to help him, but Cosmo cut him off, visibly in a hurry.

"Thank you Tails, I have to go now."

She then began to run again, under the surprised gaze of Tails, who did not understand her distant behaviour and sudden haste. He saw her running down the hall and disappearing behind a door, always wondering what she had. When she disappeared, he leaned over these crates to pick them up, but he saw a small case. He picked it up, intrigued it, and opened it. It contained a small blue metal flower. Tails was stunned

"She's beautiful!" he thought. "It must be Cosmo who brought it down"

He rested his eyes on the flower again, looking at her with tenderness

"She's as beautiful as she is. But I would never dare to tell him how I feel"

His gaze had darkened a little at these last words. But suddenly he lit up again.

"I have an idea! This flower looks a little old and damaged: I'm going to re-polish it, refurbish it, beautify it and re-offer it to her. She'll probably be happy for that."

He eventually gets out of his daydreams and finish picking up the crates quickly to bring them to Chris and take care of the flower to bring her back to Cosmo.

He ends up meeting her in the common room, throwing a small party. He helped her the rest of the afternoon, but the memories passed faster. His mind then stopped on a memory directly related to the flower.

Everyone was partying. Tails was happy to see that despite the difficult situation, everyone managed to have fun: The Chaotix and Knuckles were chatting, as well as Amy, Sonic and Cream. But where was Cosmo? Tails looked at her and finally found her, at the stars looking by the window of the room. Tails had been looking all evening for a way to see her alone, to talk to her and offer her flower again. He approached, his heart crossed by jitters and anxiety. He stopped a few yards away to catch his breath and calm down.

"Calm down" he says to himself "it's going to be fine"

He finally got closer and placed himself to the left of Cosmo.

"Hi Cosmo"

Cosmo jumped a little by surprise, and then turned around and saw that Tails was to his left.

"Hi Tails"

She then turned to the stars

"Your little party is a success," he began, "Everyone's have fun because of you."

"Thank you," she says, blushing a little, "I'm glad everyone's have fun. You've helped me so much and it's so hard to face the Metrex that I thought it was the least I could do. »

Tails looked at Cosmo, and brought one of his tails forward to pull something out of it. Cosmo looked at his closed fist, intrigued. Tails held out his arm, smiling, and opened it. Cosmo's eyes then lit up when he saw the little flower that dazzled. Tails was glad he was able to please her.

"Here," he said, "You dropped it earlier and I took the opportunity to polish it a little bit to give it to you. Do you like it? »

"It's beautiful!" she said, taking it, "Thank you Tails!"

She closed her hand on it and began to observe the stars again. But Tails couldn't turn his face away from her and it was all red now. She was so beautiful.

"Cosmo is really special," he thought, "she's so beautiful! If only I had the courage to tell her how I feel! »

And confusing thought and word, he began to speak without realizing it, carried by the magic of the moment

"You're so beautiful Cosmo!"

He immediately realized what he had just said, and turned his gaze to the stars, blushing madly.

"Yes, you're right, the stars are beautiful. I could spend hours looking at them! »

Obviously, she didn't hear it well. He always blushed, but he also sneered as he answered her.

"Yes, it's true that they are beautiful!"

Tails was crying as he remembered that day, curled up in his tails. He had been so frightened that he could not confess his feelings to her. And a few days later she died. Who knows what would happen if he had spoken that day? Maybe things would be different. Maybe she would still be there. He then turned to his bedside table, where stood a small pot containing a small flower barely hatched. It was the flower given by the seed of Cosmo; the last thing left of her. For a long time, he was persuaded that she would return in this way, reborn from this flower. But he had to face the obvious: these happy days are over now, and would never come back, because she was dead. He may try to turn the page, but the past always catches up with him and reminds him that nothing will ever be the way it was. He may be able to return to his life before his encounter with Cosmo, but he would never again experience the happiness he experienced with her. In addition, it was him who killed him, and it makes him even more inconsolable. For months, he was told that he did what he had to do, but he knew, he was convinced that he could have found another way. He has always been called a genius, but when this genius would have really been useful to him, it flew away and got carried away by his emotions. Memories of the day of her death began to flow as he looked at the plant. These, he tried to push them away from his whole being, but he was still flocking.

"No, not that!" he cried, "I don't want to relive this day! Never again! »

He managed to drive these images out of his mind, knowing, however, that they would probably come back to haunt him that night, as he does every time, he thinks too much about her. But for the moment he was able to control himself, stop crying and catch his breath.

"Calm Down Tails!" he thought, "That's not what's going to bring her back. What she would have wanted is for me to continue to live, as Sonic told me two months ago, and that's all that matters now. »

When he was completely calmed down, he suddenly remembered Sonic, whom he had fired from the workshop.

"Oh no, Sonic! I hope he's still here! »

Tails ran mad towards the workshop, hoping that his older brother was still here. Sonic was the most precious thing in the world, in the same place as Cosmo, he didn't want to lose him because of one of his crisis. He came down the stairs, and saw that his lab was empty.

"Oh no! Sonic! He cried, without reply. "Sonic!"

But again, nothing. Tails was now alone in his workshop, and all because of him. Sonic has always been very patient with Tails, but in recent months he had used that patience a lot. And it looks like this time, it broke. Tails was distraught: He had lost Cosmo, and now he was in danger of losing Sonic. He nearly collapsed to the ground to cry, but he held back. He shook off his tears, and looked towards the door, with a determined look:

"No, I wouldn't falter!" he thought, "It is because of my weakness that Cosmo died and I almost lost my brother even today. I wouldn't falter again! »

He then walked surely towards the door, ready to do everything in his power to find Sonic and apologise.

But when he was about to pass through the door, he heard a big explosion upstairs, and all the lights went out. The explosion also caused a widespread tremor, causing it to lose its balance and fall to the ground. He got up, a little sounded by the sudden fall. When he had covered his spirits, he remembered that the only rooms upstairs were the bathroom and ...

« ... My room! Cosmo! »

He rushed up the stairs and begged Chaos, which was nothing to happen to her. He entered his room and saw that the back wall was completely blown up, having scattered pieces of walls in the room, but also books and various objects attached to it, on the floor. The bed was broken in two pieces, the bottom part of it was burning. He looked for the nightstand, which was strangely still in good condition. But the pot was gone. He searched for hit, distraught, throughout the room without success. He ended up looking through the opening, thinking he was going to see if it was falling out, through the destroyed wall, but he saw a silver hedgehog floating in the sky, surrounded by a cyan blue aura. He wore white gloves decorated with cyan line, like his aura, and one of those gloved hands wore Cosmo's pot. Amazement and fury mixed in Tails' mind: who was this mysterious being who dared to attack Cosmo. Full of hatred in his eyes, he rushed into a cry towards the being, but he disappeared with the pot without warning, probably having teleported elsewhere.

"That's not possible!" thought Tails, "Another Chaos Controller! And why he kidnapped Cosmo ?! »

Tails collapsed, his eyes as empty, horrified by what had just happened. Cosmo was gone, kidnapped by a mysterious being. A mysterious hedgehog.

Sonic had just arrived at Amy's house. Thanks to his super speed, you couldn't really say he was "going to Amy's", it's almost as if he had teleported there. He was now standing in the little flower-lined driveway that led to the door of her house. Next to the door was a sign with the words "Amy Rose and Sonic's house" written with painting. Sonic smiled a little when he saw this. Indeed, since they confess their respective feelings, they both lived in this quiet, lakeside house, as Amy had always dreamed of. In any case, this was true until the Metarex war, where they first had to leave the planet, before Sonic moved to Tails. They had agreed to live together again when Tails was better, and he thought it would be soon, as he had resumed dealing with the Tornado, a sign of good morale for Tails. But what happened today was a game-changer, and he had to do something about it. And only Amy could help him. Indeed, as Sonic is the closest thing to a big brother to Tails, Amy is the closest thing to a big sister. She has always taken care of him, whether on a mission, always sitting Tails aboard the Tornado, or in life concocting a good little dish to comfort him or always helping him when she could. She was even sometimes very maternal towards him. If he needed anyone to get through this once and for all, it was amy and Sonic he needed. And maybe another person. He approached the door, breathed a great blow, and rang the doorbell.

"I'm coming!" said a playful voice from inside.

He heard a person approach the door and open it. It was Amy, who greeted Sonic with a broad smile before jumping into his arms.

"Oh, Sonic!" She cried out in a high-pitched voice, "I'm glad to see you!"

Sonic was not surprised by her reaction, and even gave her his embrace. But when he did that, she tightened even harder and he began to suffocate.

"Amy!" he says, "I can't breathe."

Amy took a little time to react, but eventually let go and passed her hand in her thorns, embarrassed

"Oops!" she said, "excuse me. Well, what did you come here for? Are you finally here to tell me you're coming home?"

Sonic looked at her sadly, which worried Amy.

"What's wrong?"

"Well, that's the problem," he began, "I thought we had managed to get Tails out of his depression and he had mourned Cosmo, but this morning, while repairing the Tornado, I found the metal flower that Tails had given her."

Amy, frightened, hid her surprise and dismay by her hands hiding her mouth.

"I tried to hide it, but unfortunately he saw it as well, and he drove me away from his house, in tears."

Amy was watching him, both angry and sad.

"How could you do that Sonic!" she said, "He's your best friend and you tried to lie to him, he must be angry now."

Sonic looked at her, full of shame in his eyes, realizing what he had done

"I know," he replied simply, "and that's why we have to hurry even more to help him! He's not well, and we need to put an end to this! »

"But how?" asked Amy, perplexed.

"He needs someone to support him, but he's still young. He may be like brothers and sisters to ours, but he needs a more important presence. A presence like ... »

« ... Parents!" Amy, having understood what he was getting at, "You mean you're going ... »

"Yes, I will make him the proposal that Vanilla suggested to us, that is, that she adopt him. Friends are good, but nothing beats a loving mother to cheer up. For years, he was alone, not knowing the warmth of a home to help him in difficult times. Vanilla has always been affectionate and maternal with everyone. The first time she found out Tails was an orphan, she even offered to adopt him on the spot, remember? »

"Yes," Amy replied with a laugh, "he immediately refused, saying he was no longer a baby."

"But despite a great spirit, he is still a child, and a child at that age needs a parent, and Vanilla has always been very maternal towards him. He always refused, saying that having a brother was enough for him, and I had respected his choice until now. But with everything he's been through, a simple brother isn't enough for him anymore. He needs a mother, a real family. At first, it may not have the desired effect, but after a few months, his vision will change and he will see Vanilla and Cream as his family and no longer as friends. And then he'll get better, I'm sure."

Amy seemed to think for a moment, then nodded.

"Okay," she replied, "I'm going to help you convince him."

"Thank you."

Amy was about to head to Vanilla's house to see if she still agreed, when they heard an explosion in the distance. They looked in all directions, until they saw a plume of smoke above Tails' workshop. They looked at each other, distraught, before Amy jumped into Sonic's arms and Sonic began to run. They reached the workshop in a matter of seconds. They entered and searched for Tails, but could not find him. They then went upstairs and saw Tails' room in an incredible mess, the back wall shattered, and Tails collapsed to the ground, crying. Sonic rushed towards him and bent down to be at his level.

"Tails!" yelled Sonic, "Are you okay?! You're not hurt?! »

Tails turned and saw Sonic, but did not answer, still shocked by what had just happened.

"Tails! But what happened here?! »

He finally answers, his voice interspersed with tears:

"he ... He took Cosmo!" He cried out

"What?" shouted Sonic and Amy, "Who?"

"Another hedgehog that controlled the Chao abducted Cosmo."

Sonic and Amy looked at Tails, shocked by what they had just heard.

Meanwhile, somewhere on Southern Island, the silver hedgehog appeared in the middle of a large dark room. He took a step, trying to orient himself in the darkness, before stopping, visibly finding what he was looking for. He stopped in front of a great dark form

"Doctor," said the hedgehog at the form before him, "I have what you asked for!"

The light suddenly lit up, revealing that the shape in front of him was a kind of promontory, with a hole at the top. A voice rang out of nowhere, visibly out of the speakers.

"All right, I'm coming!" said the voice, grave and menacing.

The loudspeakers fell silent, and a noise rang out from the void in the centre of the promontory. It was like an elevator noise, which was approaching little by little. After a minute, a spherical object came out of the hole and stopped. The hedgehog could see that the sphere was open at the top, and was in fact a small vehicle with its cockpit. And in this cockpit was a Human of imposing stature, not by his muscles but by his general egg shape. His face sported a big smile showing his gigantic teeth, as well as an incredible mustache, which he smoothed with his right hand. At his side were two robots: a small big grey and a large yellow and thin. The man looked at the hedgehog and when he saw what he was holding, he laughed. A deep, serious and Machiavellian laugh.

"Oh oh oh! That's fine, Silver! It's perfect! Thanks to this, the end of Sonic and these friends is approaching! »
