Chapter one...
(Set after Lorelai's Ultimatum)
The next morning...
Luke woke up in the unfamiliar surroundings...he turned over and saw her dark curls lying on the pillow sleeping peacefully next to him on the bed. It wasn't Lorelai, it was Anna. He rushed out of her house and straight into his truck, he needed to get home as soon as he could. The drive home to Stars Hallow was agony for him, he was replaying the last 12 hours over and over in his head. He needed to see Lorelai.
He pulled up at her house and nervously he let himself in, and he found her crying on the sofa. "Where were you last night?" Lorelai asked without looking at him, "I spent the night at the diner, i needed to think things through" he replied. Lorelai sat up and looked directly into Luke's eyes "Why are you lying, Luke? I went to the diner and you weren't there, so where exactly were you?" Lorelai's eyes were begging him for answers. "I, erm, I spent the night at Anna's," Luke answered, knowing his answer was going to cause his love a great deal of pain.
"You what? You spent the night at Anna's? Oh my god did you have sex?" Lorelai could feel her anger rising through her body, "I wanted to go to Anna's and find out exactly what she had said to you, I was trying to find out where this ultimatum that you forced on me had come from. We didn't have sex, but I did spend the night there. We started drinking and I was too drunk to drive home...please please believe me" he pleaded. "Where did you sleep?" she asked him, "ok I slept in Anna's bed but we were both fully dressed honestly Lorelai, you have to believe me. I never meant for any of this to happen. I went there to have it out with her, once and for all. We started talking, I was upset with myself for letting you walk away. Anna had some great perspective on where this ultimatum had come from , we started drinking and then we went to sleep. Nothing happened except she kissed me, I didn't kiss her back. I told her that I was in love with you and only you. Please Lorelai..." Lorelai couldn't believe what she was hearing, she wanted to marry this man in front of her more than anything but she was hurting.
"I can't believe you did this Luke, I poured my whole heart into you last night, i was broken, i am broken and you let me walk away, and then rather than come after me you go to your ex's house. How would you feel if I went to Christophers?" Lorelai instantly regretted mentioning Christophers name but she wanted to hurt Luke, just like he's hurting her. "So come on then, don't leave me in this suspense...what perspective did Perfect Anna shed on what happened?" Lorelai asked whilst crossing her arms over the chest. Luke was hesitant to answer but he did "Anna feels like maybe you're threatened by April...". " Do you know what Luke? Anna couldnt be further from the fucking truth. I gave you the ultimatum because I wanted to know whether you loved me enough to marry me just as the woman you fell in love with and not as the mother of your child" Lorelai spat the last few words at him. "You're pregnant? I mean we're having a baby? Oh Lorelai this is amazing, this is all I have ever wanted, and I want it all with you. When did you find out?" Luke asked whilst making his way over to the couch, he took hold of Lorelai's hand and she instantly pulled hers away. "I found out yesterday morning, I was going to tell you on the way to Maryland last night but maybe I should have waited 12 years to tell you, maybe then you would give me attention and let me call the shots on your life. Huh?" she said whilst standing up and walking towards her front door. "Lorelai please don't do this, please. We can be
a family. Me, you, Rory, April and our baby, I love you, please Lorelai" Luke begged. "You said you let your actions speak and your actions have been pretty clear over the past few months Luke. I'm out. You can come and pack up your things tomorrow, not that you have hardly anything here anymore. You can be involved in the baby's life as much or as little as you want but you're no longer in mine. I have an appointment with Dr Grey on Tuesday at 9:30am, I am not going to stop you from coming to the appointments but now you need to leave" with that Lorelai opened the front door and she watched Luke leave, he looked like a broken man, but in that moment she didn't care, he had broken her first.
