Meanwhile at Hogwarts:
Dumbledore called Severus and Minerva into his office.
"Albus what's going on. The students will be arriving in a few days and we have things to finish." (M)
"I called you both here because we will be getting a transfer student from the states and I need one of you to accompany me to Diagon Alley this afternoon to meet her and her family. They have many questions and I would like an extra person there." (D)
"Who would be transferring in that needs two staff to welcome them." (S)
"It's the daughter of an old acquaintance of mine. Snape you have actually met a few of her family before, that's why I was hoping you could go. But if not Minerva would be of great assistance." (D)
"Albus, like Minerva, said we are very busy getting ready for the new school year. If I am to take time to greet this girl and her family, I need to know why it is so important." (S)
"Her name is Hope. She is from a fairly important family that has currently located itself in New Orleans. That is where she was born and spent her childhood. She did attend the Salvatore school for 7 years. And yes Minerva we have her records. She will be going into her fifth year. The school load shouldn't be a problem. Culture change may be an issue, but I've been told she adjusts well. Some her family will be staying at a family home in northern Scotland and she will have access to her head of houses floo so she can go there when needed." (D)
"Albus there is something you're not telling us. Why is this girl so important? Why would she need to go to her home so much that she gets floo access?" (M)
"I need you both to keep an open mind here. When this girl arrives she will be going by a different name. Not only for her safety but the safety of the students. So her true identity is to be kept at the highest level. Am I clear?" with a nod from both he continues. "Hope's full name is Hope Andrea Mikaelson."
After a few seconds realization dawns on Minerva and then Severus shortly after. They both look up at Albus with many questions visible on their faces.
"Okay. we will do this one question at a time starting with Minerva." (D)
"Who exactly is this girl in relation to the Mikaelson family?" (M)
"This may sound crazy but she is Niklaus Mikaelson's daughter." (D)
"Impossible vampires can not have children." (M)
"That is still true. Due to their mother having an affair, Niklaus was born a werewolf, so he and a woman by the name of Haley Marshall had a daughter roughly 15 years ago." (D)
"So is this girl a vampire as well?" (S)
"She is, and I believe I'm saying this right, a Tribrid. Witch, werewolf and vampire. Though werewolves and vampires are slightly different in the states. In Hope's case to trigger the werewolf curse she needed to kill someone and to activate the vampire gene she would need to die." (D)
"So based on your wording just now, she has killed someone." (M)
"Yes it was an accident that occurred just before her father died." (D)
"Hold a minute Niklaus is dead. He was an original vampire. I thought they couldn't die." (S)
"That is mostly true but to protect his daughter he found a way. Severus, you should also know that his brother Elijah died with him. I know that you knew the man." (D)
"We have met a few times and conversed a little over the years. I'm not that surprised that he left with brother. He was a fiercely loyal man to that family. So this girl Hope what is she like?" (S)
"I have yet to meet the girl. I know she has gone through a lot recently. Along with her father and uncle dying her mother passed away just before that. And Niklaus told me she had some trouble with dark magic when she was very young. She is apparently very powerful but has some control issues when her emotions become too much. Her Uncle Kol and his wife Davina will be staying at their family home while she is attending school. Because she has already triggered the werewolf curse she needs to run on occasion. That is why she needs access to someone's floo. I would have her use mine but it's slightly odd for her to come to me." (D)
"Won't it be obvious if she disappears every full moon. The students would figure it out fairly quickly." (M)
"Hope's transformation is different than what we are used to because of this she can change at will and becomes a full wolf. Albeit a slightly big one. Is there anything else you are concerned about?" (D)
"So just to sum things up. Hope Mikaelson (Marshall) will be transferring into year five. She is the daughter of an original vampire who also happens to be a werewolf and another werewolf. Both her parents and an uncle have recently died. She has some control issues. And if I remember correctly due to a difference in magic styles she has presumably never used a wand before. Am I missing anything?" (M)
"Oh ya her Uncle Kol, who used to be a vampire, died and was resurrected by their mother and is now a witch. His wife is from a very old and powerful line of New Orleans witches as well. She is very apt at wandless magic. Due to triggering the werewolf curse she has slightly enhanced strength, speed and reflexes. Finally, because she is hiding her identity, if it were to be revealed we may have to take some action. Many people will want to use her in this war. I promised Niklaus that I would do my best to keep her safe, and I plan on keeping it. Can I count on your support?" (D)
"Albus I will do what I can for this girl, but one may bitten off more than you can chew." (M)
"I will go with you tomorrow and help where I can. Will it just be the three of them?" (S)
"No her other aunts and her brother are going as well. The whole family arrived at their estate this morning and will be helping her shop then everyone not staying will return to New Orleans." (D)
"Okay then if that's all then I will see you both in the morning." Severus leaves Minerva still watching Albus.
"Are you sure this is a good idea. With the tournament coming can we really risk the Mikaelson family. They have a tendency of bringing trouble wherever they go." (M)
"This needs a new start and a place where she can discover who she is outside of her family's world. She has had a hard life and there are many who would take advantage of that. She has a very strong support in her family, but nothing outside of that. She needs her own people. I think she can find that here. And she could help these kids see things a little differently. There's nothing wrong with that. Yes she may bring a little trouble, but the good she could bring cant be ignored." (D)
Minerva looks at him clearly wanting to say more but he gives her a look that says this conversation is over. She has much more to say but decides to wait and see what happens first. She will help this girl all she can in the meantime.
The Following Day
The Mikaelson family are awake, fed and exploring London fairly early the next morning. They decided to get in some pre-shopping before meeting with the headmaster. He sent them a letter by owl, a new experience for Hope but apparently normal behavior here, with time and place to meet him and they were on their way there now. Walking up to a tavern called the Leaky Cauldron the family is a little suspicious but decide to go inside anyway. Once they are all in Freya sees a man similar to the description she has for the Headmaster and walks over.
"Headmaster?" (F)
"That is correct young lady. It is a pleasure to meet you. Freya correct?" (D)
"Yes, let me introduce you to the family. The lovely woman just behind me is my wife Keelin, next to her is brother Kol and his wife Davina Claire. On my other side Is my sister Rebekah and her husband Marcel. And this of course is Hope." (F)
"It is a pleasure to meet you all. Why don't we have a seat? I have a table over there. One of our professors has joined us today. He was actually an acquaintance of your brother Elijah." (D) walking over they see a man dressed in all black with a blank expression on his face. "Severus this is the family I was telling you about yesterday. This is Hope… you will be going Hope Marshall correct?" (D)
With a small nod from the girl he turns back to the family as a whole. "This is Professor Severus Snape. He is the potions teacher at Hogwarts and Head of Slytherin house." (D)
"It is a pleasure to meet you all. Headmaster has informed me of the reason for this transfer and I am sorry for your loss. Elijah and I had met a few times over the years. He was a very intelligent man. Highly perceptive as well, not many people could keep a secret from him, many did try though," (S)
Hope's interest visibly spiked at the mention of his uncle. It is rare to hear people talk about her family with anything other than hate, disdain and disgust. This man seemed to think highly of her Elijah. Maybe she could ask him for some stories in the future. She focused back onto the conversation with Dumbledore talking about the houses.
"Hope you might want to focus on this one. So Hogwarts is separated into four different houses. Each student at the beginning of their first year, or in your case the year they transfer, goes through a sorting ceremony. Your housemates are who you will go to classes with, dorm with and usually eat meals with. It comes to feel like a second family to a lot of kids. The four houses are Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw." (D)
"How do you decide what house you're in?" (H)
"During the sorting ceremony are placed into one of the houses. You see each house puts higher value on different aspects of a person's personality. Some people can fit into more than one house but most people are placed into the leading aspect of their personality even if they could fit in all four." (D)
"So then what are the differences between houses?" (K)
"Gryffindor favors the brave at heart those who are bold and courageous; they are a lion. Slytherin are home to the cunning and ambitious, they tend to value leadership and resourcefulness; they are the snakes. Then Hufflepuff welcomes the loyal and patience, those who strive to be hard-working and just: the badgers. Finally Ravenclaw houses the intelligent, those who have a drive to learn: eagles. But like I said earlier just because you are in one house doesn't mean don't have other attributes. Snakes can be wise, Badgers can be leaders, eagles and be brave and lions can be loyal." (D)
"All of the houses are very proud. But they are not totally isolated. All meals are eaten in the great hall and during breakfast and lunch many students co mingle. You will also have your classes with students from other classes. Dumbledore told me he took care of your books but didn't see any electives on that list. Do you know what we offer?" (S)
"I looked at the list Freya showed me and I think I know what I want. I'm just curious about a few things. I know plenty about 'muggles' so I don't need that, and Divination doesn't seem that challenging. Runes would be good but I think it would be a lot like the magic I already use so not much new. Arithmancy seems like it could be useful. But do you have any language classes?" (H)
"We do generally offer a few languages for 6th and 7th year to help students on their career paths. Runes does do basic lessons for older languages as well as some rune translation. So if learning a language is what you are interested in then taking ruin's this year and then see what's available next year." (D)
"Okay then I guess my electives will be Runes and Arithmancy. I understand that my classmates have already been taking these classes for a while so will I be joining into my year or will I be behind?" (H)
"Having looked at your records from Salvatore you should be at the same level for most of your classes. Transfiguration might be a little tricky and herbology is slightly different. But other than that you should be all good. The only real issue I see will be using a wand." (S)
"She will be getting one today and I will be informing her teachers that she will need some adjustment with me and not to point it out." (D)
"That's very nice of you. I know hope will catch on rather quickly. Dumbledore I am a little curious as to the Magical Britain's views on wandless magic as a whole. Davina, Kol and I all practice wandless, will we stand out too much. Do we need wands?" (F)
"As a whole it's less of a commonality here then in some parts of the world. We are aware that some magic is just done wandless, but I would advise you to try to minimize how much you do it in public. I doubt you will need wands, Britain gets many visitors from all over and not having a wand is fine. Other countries even have different foci." (D)
"Okay good. That's all for me, though I know Marcel had a few things. Marcel?" (F)
"On a more serious note, as I am sure you are both aware this family has a tendency to attract enemies and with them lots of trouble. Now I know you guys are dealing with a lot right now but I am slightly worried about my nieces safety here. She has been through a lot and with most of us going back to New Orleans when she starts school we can't protect her like we could back home, what can you guys do to protect her?" (M)
"I understand your concern, but I assure you that her safety is very important to us. When her father reached out to me I made a promise that I would do all I could to protect her. Klaus has saved my life more than I care to admit and I owe him more than I can repay. Protecting his daughter is my duty at this point." (D)
Everyone was slightly taken aback by his words. Klaus was never a friendly person and rarely went out of his way to do something good. Clearly something had happened between this man and their brother/father. Hope was shocked for the second time that morning at the fervor that this man referred to her father with. It seems like going to this school could help her remember her family and know them better. Marcel was pleased with the importance the headmaster put on his sister and looking at the other man it seemed she had two built in guards at the school already. Just wait until she starts building her crew. That school won't know what hit it.
They all get up and follow Dumbledore outside and around the back of the building. They were watching him look at this wall when he takes his wand out and begins taping some of the bricks. Then all of a sudden the bricks start moving and a sort of doorway is opened. They all follow him through with Severus ending the little group to close the access. The little alley slowly starts to open up and they begin to hear people moving about and talking then they see what looks like an open mall with shops lining either side of the street and a grand looking building all the way at the end. Dumbledore stops and turns to the group,
"I think this is where I will leave you all. I would love to show you around but I think having me as a private escort may draw too much attention. Severus will show you where everything is and help you finish getting everything. Hope and family it was a pleasure to meet you all. Hope i will see you in a few days. Severus." with a nod and a slight bow he was off.
