Chapter Ten:
The vans turned into a walled compound and came to a full stop. What come next has my nerves rattled as I gave a worrisome look to Brenda and Thomas.
"Get out." A muffled voice came from one of the masked men. Thomas, Brenda, and I slowly climbed out, not to agitate our captors. Soon other van came stop, as fighting noises came from the back of the van. Jorge came bursting out of the back with him were on of the masked men. Jorge began wailing on one of the masked men without pausing.
"Where the hell is she?"Jorge said still punching the masked man he were holding on to.
Able to sneak a glance I notice the rather overly occupied parking lot which led to even more space extending inwards, connecting it all to this massive complex. It took a moment of realization to notice my hood came undone. But before any got drastic everyone made moves towards, Jorge.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Brenda yelled running to Jorge. I followed behind her.
"Jorge stop." I pleaded when Brenda yelling failed to got through to him. Everyone inside came running towards us trying to stop the scuffle.
"Relax, relax." The armed masked men said all pinning us aside weapons raised.
"Okay, okay, okay." Thomas said trying to defuse the situation.
"I'm right here, I'm right here." Brenda shouted frantically getting him to snap out of his fit of rage.
"Everybody relax. We're all on the same side here." The masked man, spoke. Circling around before stopping.
I quickly darted my eyes narrowing them to take a better look at the man who I felt, I somehow knew. "The hells that meant to mean huh?" I questioned defiantly.
"What do you mean same side? Who the hell are you?" Thomas asked walking up to the man.
The masked man gave one large look over at the pair of us before taking off the mask of his. And when I caught a glimpse, I felt my chest compressed and all of the air in my lungs escaped.
There in the flesh before all of us was Gally. My eye's twitch something awful and a sadistic anger began to erupt in my stomach. Gally… The one guy who caused me so much grief in the Glade. Why was he here and not buried six feet under in some unmarked grave? It doesn't make sense.
"Hey, Greenie." Gally said looking at Thomas.
"Gally?" Thomas asked shocked.
Frypan, Newt, and I exchanged heavy glances. Thomas quickly lunged and punched Gally across the face. I couldn't blame Thomas, after what Gally did, Gally deserved it. He just happen to beat me to it. But Newt ran up to Thomas, before I could. The guards came rushing towards them to break up the fight as Thomas straddle Gally to the ground.
"Stop it, whoa. Stop it." Newt held Thomas' fist back, "Stop."
"He killed Chuck." Thomas said venomous and crazed like, happy that he could dispatch more pain on Gally. Thomas still, hell we all were still traumatized, by Chuck's death.
"Yeah I know. I remember. I was there too, all right" Newt added, "But I also remember that he was stung and half out of his mind."
"Damn it." I grumble wishing to see blood spew from his face.
"Just calm down. All right?" Newt said to Thomas.
Thomas stood up and walked to us, as Gally got up
"Kind of had that coming." Gally said straightening his jaw, "Anybody else? Fry? Newt? Freak?"
That word, one I haven't heard in ages. That threw me forward as I bashed my elbow in Gally face knocking him back down. I quickly pinned him back down scooping up a large cinder block. I held it tightly about to bash Gally's brains out.
"My name is Ross!" I declared loudly swinging down the block but stopped right before the impact. "But I'm a different person, so count yourself lucky!" I said tossing the block aside. I quickly got up and grabbed Gally by his collar and lifted him up as well, taking a step away from everyone.
I stop listing in on the conversation as I wander away. Not permitted to leave I threw my frustration in a balled fist and slammed into a beam which held up the lot. Why had I hesitated to hurt him? Why didn't I follow through with the attack? But he was a mere victim too. Back inside the first facility, that woman Sanctum forced him to attack. Just like Deacon drove Louis into madness. Who was next to fall under their control. Still all the horrible memories of the Glade, there were still good one's. If things had played out just a bit different, would Alby and the others be alive?
Walking back over to the group, Brenda held my hand as I stood in place trembling in shook. These experiences have fostered and made me mature. I'm grateful for everyone who's apart of my life. I'm relived I knew right from wrong again. Even if I won't hesitate to harm anyone who wishes ill for my friends. They are my family and my strength.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Gally asked us.
"Minho." Newt said softly. "WICKED has him here, we're looking for a way in."
"I can help with that, follow me." Gally said to us turning around.
"We're not going anywhere with you." Thomas said steadfastly.
"Suit yourself." Gally said, "But I can get you through those walls." There was silence when Gally finishing speaking, just anticipated heavy breathing and more silence.
"Thomas, for once listen to me. We both can't stand Gally, but this isn't time to hold a grudge. If it's a way to Minho, we have to take it. You know that, don't you?" I said slipping out of Brenda grip and tightly pull on his jacket sleeve. "Look at me Tom and tell me I ain't right. Cause if we don't take this chance, who knows how'll we'll get to him." I said strongly locking eyes with my best friend.
For a moment he looked at me, then to Gally and then back to me. "Fine!" Thomas agreed, admitting the fact I was right. For once since this trip he listened to what I had to say. I felt a relief swell up in my chest as we followed closely behind Gally.
"After the maze, I got picked up by a group headed to the city. They realized I was immune, patched me up, and they brought me here to Lawrence." Gally explained, "This group has been at war with WICKED ever since they took control of the city. But WICKED can't hide behind those walls forever." He said leading us forward. "Day's going to come, and their going to pay for what they done.
"Once we find Minho, it's fair game for them." I replied as I stood with Newt, making our way onward. We entered a massive area where the group made their homes and base of operations. It wasn't like these people aren't ready for war. Some many people gathering together, I knew they are serious. It's a relief to know the Right Arm isn't the only one's fighting WICKED.
Gally soon stop to turn to us, "Listen, he doesn't get a lot of visitors. So, let me do the talking. All right? And try not to stare."
Pilling into a room at the end stood a man tending to his overgrown greenery and shrubs. A IV was attached to his arm and followed him wherever he went. It was mildly lavish but had a weird scent to it. Turning to face us was a man, face all discombobulated. He looks sickly and seems to be on his last legs. He had the appearance of a Crank, but didn't revert to inhuman grunts. He spoke rather proficient.
"Gally, glad to see you made it back." The man said. "Jasper told me what happen."
"It was a slaughter." Gally responded, "There's nothing we can do against those guns."
"No. But they can only poke the Hornets nest for so long, before they get stung." He said poetical. "Who are these people? Why are they here?" Lawrence asked.
"We need to get into WICKED." Thomas said stepping forward, "Gally said that you can get us through the walls."
"Gally should know better than to make promises that he can't keep." Lawrence answered, "Besides, that wall is only half your problem. Getting inside WICKED is impossible."
I let out a deep sigh, "Perhaps, but where there a will there a way."
"There might be way now." Gally stated, "It doesn't work without Thomas."
"Is that so?" Lawrence asked.
Lawrence walked closer to us, "Do you know what I am, Thomas? I am a businessman. Which means that I don't take unnecessary risks. Why should I trust you?"
"Because I can help you." Thomas answered. "You see if you can get me through those wall's, I can get you what you need.
"What is it, that you think I need?" Lawrence replied.
"Time. Every last drop." Thomas answered stoically.
"Is that something, I need? He questions.
"WICKED has something we both want!" Thomas stated.
I'll tell you what. Two can go for now." Lawrence stated, "The rest stay down here with me. Just insurance that you find your way back. We have a deal?"
Lawrence reached out his hand. Thomas shook it.
"Gally show him the way." Lawrence said turning away.
"Not so fast!" I called out. " Lawrence you might trust Gally, but I still don't a hundred percent. I'm going as well. Insurance policy of my own." I demanded.
"And why would I allow that?" Lawrence turn to me stepping toward my face. He reeked of blood and begonias. "This is my home and my rules, be grateful your friend has a level head."
"Your point?" I asked sarcastically. "Once inside, what if the plan doesn't work. I'm their plan B. My name holds weight believe it or not!" I stared at the Crank and neither any second wavering.
"Weight you say? Who the hell do you think you are kid!" Lawrence probes me with his imposing question.
"I'm Ross Paige, and I'm son of; Chancellor Ava Paige. You know, the bitch who runs WICKED!" I stated with authority and everyone who didn't know which wasn't many, faces drop.
"Now this is a revelation!" Cheered Lawrence in a very concerning devious way. "I would had tidy up a bit if I knew we was entertaining royalty." Lawrence said with a grisly smirk.
"Please. You think you could hold me hostage. Think again. You'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." I spouted an old idiom.
"That is true, but let me warn you. Cross me and it will be the last thing you'll ever do." He said threatening me with intent.
"Wouldn't dream of it," I said extending my hand out. He didn't shake mines in return but simply returns to his gardening. Up the flight of stairs we went following Gally with me in back.
Wherever Gally was leading us to I will make sure I keep my wits about me and my guard always up. Gally has to work at buying my trust so for now I remain skeptical.
