Chapter Eleven:

When we arrived to a area of the compound, Gally pulled off a lid leading to the dark depths of the lower city underbelly. Quickly dropping a ladder we made our way over the hole.

"Be careful, Thomas." Jorge said as Gally was first to make the descent.

"Gally take care of these three." Fry said simply enough to convey his feelings."

"Yeah." He replied. Thomas was the second to climb down as I looked over to Newt who was fussing with his boots. Giving himself a once over. But I let him tend to himself, as Jorge pulled me aside, whispering in my ears.

"Be careful out there, and don't be reckless unless you must."

"You know me, cool as a cucumber." I laughed for a second. Then gave him as serious look of understanding before climbing down after Newt..

Once we made it down we ran into a swear like tunnels which lead us most of the way following Gally. It was smelly and damp and I hated every last bit of it.

Newt quickly let out a disgusted moan as we made our way head lights leading the way. "This is gross!" Newt whined aloud.

"Jesus…" Thomas sighed. "Yeah this is great." Thomas moaned sarcastically.

"Something just touch my leg." I complain but mostly still disgusted.

Eventually Gally flips a switch which triggers a row of light bulbs that lead us forward. Honestly looking at where we was, I think I prefer the dark. Yet on we go following the row of lights. Us all in tow of Gally. "Stay with me we got a ways to go." He calls out as we march forward.

It's been nearly and half an hour of walking and I've taken to walking behind Gally, whatever happens I'll respond to it quick enough. Our area of walking got thiner and thinner as the celling was meeting the floor which force us to hunch over and walk oddly. I felt the claustrophobia set in, never did good in a confined space for to long. Newt and Thomas each following behind the two of us as now there wasn't space left, up until Gally made a right and dug some bricks and wood out of the way.

"Alright this way." Gally said getting on all fours and made his way thorough a narrow crawl space which I promptly followed in second. Gally's flash light started illuminating the passage. He crawled to the edge of area where a circle large enough for a human to fit thorough. There was concrete wall and bright lights from the other side as wind came rushing by. A sigh of relief to feel this myriad breath. "Hold up!" Gally warns. As I'm beside him almost with the other right behind.

Then out of nowhere, the air blew pass faster as this once low vibration grew louder in intensity.. Then in there a train came zipping past.

"Really, a train?" I sighed looking onward.

"Okay, we have to be quick about this." Gally shouted over the train, "Stay on me, okay?" Gally informed. "Okay let's go."

Once the train had past Gally leap out on the track and so did I. The other's right behind. This was a massive subway track we happen to find ourselves on. Gally quickly covered up the hole and started walking fast.

"Right Tommy loves trains don't you mate?" Newt joked.

Gally began running, "Great cause we are going to see another one real soon."

Suddenly we began running behind Gally, he got us this far so I won't doubt he knows what he's talking about. My legs pushed and my heart pumped. Thomas and Newt running just as hard. There seem to be no end in sight. Newt was right behind me at this point. It was shocking to see Gally run so fast. It makes me wonder why he wasn't a Runner and not a Builder back in the Glade.

"Gally, what the hell are we doing?" Thomas asked yelling from the rear.

"Less talking more running!" He called out.

"Damn it Gally, how much longer." My voice cried out. But he didn't answer me.

Suddenly an piercing alarm goes off and lights are flashing through the tunnel. It's a bit disorienting, and something tells me another trains about to cross paths with us at any moment. I feel the bile from my churning stomach rise up my throat in fear of the train.

We all began pushing faster and faster down the track. It seems like we'll never stop running. And still the four of us push onward.

"Gally?" Thomas cried out.

"C'mon. Were almost there." He called back.

"Newt, we gotta move. C'mon keep going." Thomas said trying get Newt to go faster.

"You guy's got this, push!" I yelled. As I was further ahead and on Gally's tail. The train is nearly upon us as Gally turn to the right to a ladder which leads out of this tunnel. Gally, Myself and Thomas were about to make our way up. When we hear Newt collapse on the track. My heart is about to shatter because there not much that can be done for him.

"Newt!" Thomas cried out.

"Shit, Newt!"

"No stay back." Gally said pushing Thomas aside as he rushes to Newt's aid. I feel helpless to do a damn thing for him.

"Newt!" Thomas screamed moving from his cover as the trains is literally about to blitz pass us.

"Thomas no!" I yelled slamming him against the wall as the train goes right by us at such speeds. "I'm sorry but I can't save Minho on my own."

We both watched in horror as the train keeps going. I couldn't bare to look as the train had finally past. Just as I closed my eyes I hear grunting and labored breathes.

"We was never great Runners, were we Newt?" Gally said as both of us rushed over to the pair of them.

"Urg. Well I only got one good leg." He said jokingly as Gally helped him up.

"Yeah and I only got one good lung." Gally retorted.

"You okay?" Thomas ask Newt patting his shoulder.

"All I know you two are couple of crazy shanks." I said laughing as I gave Gally a pat on the back. And Newt a long hug. Then Newt had a another coughing fit as we made our way to the ladder and out this tunnel.

After five minutes of walking, Gally undid a door and suddenly we found ourselves above ground and inside the city. Once outside nearly everyone had white medical mask covering their faces as we try to find away to blend with the crowd. A voice came over I guess what is a city wide P.A. system with massages and the sort.

The four of us stick out like sore thumbs in this wave of people trying to get home. Everyone trying to catch mass transport before it stops for the night. Looking around I notice a electronic signs all over as more voices come over the system. The signs changes automatically to declare there was only fifteen minutes to mandatory curfew. And here I thought the people had it better inside the wall's. Just as the broadcast signs off after declaring the curfew as well. We all hear, WICKED IS GOOD.

Lines and more lines for the buses, with tiny checkpoints. Everything isn't what it appears to be here as it would appear from an outsider looking in. WICKED owns these people under the fear of the Flare and the promise to a Cure. It's all smoke and mirrors, but if they think this is keeping them safe so be it. It next to impossible to educate someone who's fear for their lives. It's sad. And to be completely honest there is a bit nostalgia filling in my chest. As if I've been here some time ago. It's a feeling of homesickness. But why?

"That's an infection check, all you gotta do is sneeze around here and you get kicked out. That's the price for paradise, I guess." Gally explained to us as we carry on. Up a few flights of stairs to an upper level the city is sprawled out with all it's hypocrisy and bright neon lights. Skyscrapers as tall as the eye could see.

The pangs of nostalgia keeps washing over me. Soo many billboards that litter the skyline, each with something WICKED related on them. Then far in the distance a overheard tram system which connects across the city. I guess this is the other side of the rails.

"This is a long way from the Glade." Newt chimes in.

"It's not all bad, even if WICKED owns the joint." I stood still in awe at how big this place is. All of us expect Gally was dumbfounded by such a city.

More announcements about the imminent curfew about to take place, when Gally finally speaks. "Yep we better get off the streets. I know it's hard but act like you seen it before" He say giving us caution as not to stand out even more.

"C'mon let's get moving, I believe Gally is the veteran when it comes to this place." Just like that off again.
