You have reached the voice mail box of Benjamin Warren, she listened to his voice "sorry I'm not able to come to the phone right now hit me back later or leave a voice mail." Miranda rolled her eyes leaving a voice message.

"Benjamin Warren it's your wife calling to see where you are. You should have been here by now, I cleared my schedule for 2 hours for our lunch date- " Miranda paused looking at her phone. Richard was calling her and her pager was going off with multiple people paging her 9-1-1.

She ended the call and threw her white coat on walking towards the door as she made her way to the door it flew open and Schmitt was standing there out of breath. "Chief your husband's here."

"Good tell him that I'm being page 9-1-1 and he has to wait now, oh and also tell him I'm not happy that he stood me up." She pouted but smiled because she knew he would make it up to her.

"No Chief , Your husband is here as in a patient. He had an accident." Schmitt said slowly so she could process.

Miranda felt like the wind was knocked out of her. She took in a deep breath: eyes watering. She flew out of her office rushing to the elevators slamming her hand on the buttons until it opened with Schmitt right behind her.

Miranda raced down to the pit barging through every door until she laid eyes on him.

"We need to get him up for a CT scan and a MRI." Shepherd said and Miranda watched as they were rolling him.

"What the hell? What the hell happened?" Miranda asked looking at her husband.

"He was brought in on a rig. He took a fall off the ladder. He was wearing his helmet so we have to see how much damage there is." Hunt told her.

"Was he conscious at all?" Miranda asked wiping her tears.

"19 crew said he was in and out on the route here, but when he got here he was completely unconscious." Hunt informed her sadly.

"I will be down there to view the scans. I need to find 19." Miranda said raging.

"Miller better yet Pruitt Herrera." Miranda yelled into the waiting room.

"Dr. Bailey." Herrera said looking standing looking scared.

"What the hell happened?" She asked trying not to break down.

"We were doing an assimilation and apparently the ladder had a malfunction and it started to retract."

"Oh God." Miranda said softly covering her mouth.

"He's going to be okay, it wasn't that long of a fall." Miller said grabbing her arms.

"Get your hands off me Dean Miller. Not that long of a fall. I hate all of you." She muttered leaving.

"Warren is a lucky man, there is not one broken bone and his stats are good." Hunt told her showing the charts.

"Did you all do an abdominal ultrasound to make sure there is no internal bleeding." She questioned.

"Yes and there is nothing."

"Shepherd what about his head." Miranda inquired.

"The helmet must have shield him of any blunt trauma, because his scans checks out. We will run it again to see if anything manifests in a few hours. If not then we will run it again tomorrow at noon." Amelia told her.

"Where is he?" Miranda asked.

"He is being moved to room 3045 and he is still unconscious Bailey. " Shepherd finished.

Miranda walked to her husband's room and saw him laying in the bed. She checked the stats of his monitor and exhaled seeing he was okay.

Miranda stayed with Ben for hours on end for a week. She wanted him to wake up. More than anything. She missed him like crazy.

The next week it was still the same and there was no medical reason to explain why he wasn't waking up. He was just taking his time.

Miranda walked back passed Ben's door during her lunch break. She saw him when she first got up in the morning.

"Are you my doctor. I have been trying to get someone in here all day." Ben said sitting up in the bed.

"If you are trying to lighten the mood because I'm upset with you for falling off that ladder it's not going to work. I am very angry with you ,but I'm so happy that you are alive. Miranda said standing at the foot of his hospital bed before walking to his side.

"Who are you?" Ben questioned confused as to why she was chastising him.

"Ben you are not a funny man." Miranda huffed.

Ben stared at Miranda confused and she stared back. Miranda reached out to touch his hand and Ben pulled away quickly at her touch.

Miranda eyes watered and she gasped. "Honey?...You're not joking?" You don't know who I am?" Miranda asked shakily.

"No I don't. Am I supposed to?" Ben inquired.

"I-I I can't." Miranda breathed clutching her chest. I'm going to have another heart attack she thought to herself.

"Are you okay miss?" Ben asked. She looked as if she was going to fall over.

Miranda walked fast to the hallway "Somebody page Dr. Amelia shepherd 911." Miranda shouted.

After 10 minutes Amelia came running down the hall while Miranda was pacing outside of Ben's door.

"Hey Bailey. What's wrong?" Amelia asked.

"Ben doesn't remember me. He doesn't remember me which means he's has forgotten the last 8 almost 9 years of our and his life." Miranda said frantically.

"Okay let me check it out."

"Hi I'm you Doctor Amelia Shepherd. Can your tell me your name, age, and birthday date." She said walking into the room

"I am Benjamin Warren, 33 and July 7th."

Miranda quickly did the math and she was correct. He doesn't remember the last 9 years because he is not 33. He is 41 years old.

"Very good thank you. "

"Hey Dr. Shepherd, how soon do you think I can get out if here." Ben asked sitting up some.

"We are going to run a few test and I will let you know then." Amelia smiled lightly.

Amelia walked into the hallway with Miranda following her.

"Okay Bailey we are going to get him an MRI and go from there."

Amelia eventually came back and showed Miranda the scans. "He has cerebral edema." Shepherd said.

"Okay and what are you going to do to reduce the swelling?" Miranda asked

"I can't it has to relieve itself. If I try to go in, It could damage him more."

"So how long do you think it will last in your professional opinion?" Miranda asked.

"It could last a week, a month, a year or forever Chief. This type of injuries 45% of the population experience it longer than a month. So it's a waiting game."

"So your telling me, my husband could potentially never remember me?"

"Yes, but let's not think that way. He has no other reason to say in the hospital. So he will be discharged." Amelia informed her.

"Okay Dr. Warren you have cerebral edema. Swelling in the brain. It is causing you to have memory loss. You are not a danger to yourself. So you will be discharged and left into the care of your wife the Chief Miranda Bailey." Amelia said pointing.

"I married her." Ben questioned looking over at Miranda.

"Yes." Amelia told him.

"Mmm." Ben said in disbelief the woman was absolutely beautiful.

"I need you to come back for an appointment once a week. Just figure out a day that will be good for you?" Amelia said smiling.

"I will let you know. I'm an anesthesiologist, so my schedule is pretty set. Wait lets do Tuesday's. I can come before I go golfing." Ben smiled.

"Tuesday's are perfect. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded come back immediately. " Amelia said before walking out of the room.

"Okay Ben, I am going to go finish my paperwork. It should not take me more than 30 minutes, by that time you should be discharged. I will meet you back here and then we can go home." Miranda said making a plan.

"I'm sorry I can't go home with a stranger. I don't do that." Ben stated.

"What?! Ben what are you talking about?" Miranda asked getting upset.

"I'm sorry lady. I don't know you." Ben stated seriously.

"Stop calling me lady my name is Miranda Benjamin Warren."

"I'm sorry Miranda, but I don't know you and I also wouldn't want to intrude." He spoke softly.

"You wouldn't be intruding seeing as though you pay bills there." Miranda explained. She hated this. She just wanted her husband back. Ben still had a unsettled look on his face so Miranda spoke again.

"You don't have to stay in the room with me or sleep in the bed. You can stay in the guest room or I guess a hotel. " Miranda said trying to give him options.

Ben looked at her for a moment weighing the options. "I have a girlfriend Vanessa. I will just call her." Ben stated thinking.

" What girlfriend? You never told me about any girlfriend. " Miranda huffed getting upset.

ยท "The year is 2018. Not 2010 Benjamin." Miranda finishing rolling her eyes.

"Okay well let me call Curt." Ben stated.

"Baby, I mean Ben. " Miranda paused trying to find the right words. "I'm sorry I have to tell you this and especially like this , but Curt is now Rosalind and she is now your sister." Miranda said softly trying to read his facial expression.

Ben burst into a fit of laughter. "That was funny you almost got me." Ben said chuckling some more.

Ben stopped laughing and took in Miranda's face he didn't know her for long, but something about the way she held his gaze was familiar and he suddenly he knew she was serious.

Ben's jaw clinched before speaking. "When and for how long? How long has he, I mean she known that she wanted or is a she. I'm sorry I can't find the right words." He said.

"You two have had the conversation, but she said that she knew since she was 5. We found out 3 years ago, the day we spread your dad's ashes."

"Wait my father's dead?" Ben questioned alarmed.

"Oh my God, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to tell you like this." Miranda said quickly. She wasn't even thinking.

"Ben just come home with me." Miranda said finally as tears were about to fall. Hell, she never would have imagined it would be this hard to get him to come home with her. All she ever had to do was give him a look and he just knew.

"Miranda l-" Ben started.

"We are married." Miranda told him firmly. Look at your left hand. Ben looked down at his left hand and saw the silver band on his finger.

"Take it off and look at the inside." Miranda said before twisting both of hers off her finger.

Ben did as told and read the engraving inside of his ring. Benjamin & Miranda 12-15-2012.

Miranda placed her rings in his hand and he held them up looking at the inside of her engagement ring Benjamin & Miranda 12-15-2012 and her wedding band read Today, Tomorrow & Always.

Ben looked back up at the woman as she wiped her tears. He knew it had to be hard for her. Here she was trying to convince her husband that they were married and for him to come home with her. Looking at her tears it kind of broke his heart almost.

"I'm sorry Miranda. I didn't mean to make you cry or to be difficult. I just honestly couldn't believe that you were my wife." Ben stated and he noticed her frown.

"Oh wait that's not what I meant. What I meant is that you are so beautiful, unbelievably beautiful at that and I don't know how we met or remember how, but it must be God because how did I get so lucky to marry you." Ben said rambling.

Miranda wanted to kiss him, but refrained. "That is so sweet Ben Warren. I often wonder the same thing." Miranda said softly sniffling.

"I will go home with you. Go finish your paperwork and I will be here waiting for you." Ben told her.

"Ok I won't be long and If I am, ask the nurses to page me." Miranda said before wiping her eyes and leaving out.

"Bailey, I need you to do my lap Chole at 4:00" Webber said walking up to her.

"No I can't." Miranda said rolling her eyes.

"What's wrong Miranda?" Richard asked touching her shoulders.

"You let my husband call his craziness a fellowship. He got hurt and now he has swelling in his brain. He does not remember me or our life together. I just spent the past 45 minutes trying to get him to believe that we were married and to come home with me." Miranda barked out poking Richard in his chest.

"Bailey I'm sorry. What did Shepherd say about it?" Richard said with sad eyes.

"She basically said it's a waiting game. It could last a week, a month, a year or forever. I'm praying that it's no more than a week because I will lose my sanity if my husband doesn't come back to me." Miranda said trying not to lose her composure. " I need to take a few days off from work." Miranda added looking up into Richard's eyes.

Richard pulled Miranda into a tight hug. "It's going to be okay Miranda."

"You don't know that." She argued.

"I have faith and you do too." Webber told her firmly.

"I do." Miranda said softly breaking the embrace.

Miranda did her paperwork and straighten up her office before grabbing her things. She walked back to Ben's room and looked around noticing it was empty and she groaned. Now she was going to have to track him down.

She walked to the nurses station and ask them did they know which way her husband went.

"Check the O.R board schedule. After he handed us the discharge papers he said he needed to check and see if he was on any scheduled procedures tomorrow."

Miranda rolled her eyes walking to find him. The nurses were indeed correct he was standing at the board.

"Ben." Miranda said from beside him.

"Oh hey sorry. I just needed to check my schedule, but I can't find my name anywhere." Ben said scratching his head.

"Come on walk with me." Miranda stated. Ben did as he was told and walked with Miranda until they were outside of the hospital. She sat down on the bench and he sat beside her.

"Ben you are no longer an anesthesiologist. After we got engaged. You left Seattle for L.A. to be come a surgeon. On your last year as a resident you did another career switch and became a firefighter."

"A surgeon, then a firefighter. I don't even like fire." Ben said seriously.

"The hospital caught on fire and there was a rapist on the loose, who also had one of your fellow resident friends as a hostage. You went in the building to find her." Miranda explained.

"Wow." Ben stated flatly. He was learning new information every 10 minutes.

"Yep." Miranda said sitting her hand on his upper thigh, but then quickly moving it. Seeing as though it was inappropriate.

"This sucks. The whole not remembering thing. " Ben said eventually.

"I know it does. I'm sorry honey." Miranda said looking him in the eyes before saying "Ben I mean Ben."

"It's okay call me what you are use to." Ben suggested.

"No, I'm okay I want to make you comfortable. I can learn to call you by your name." She stated playing with her hands.

Ben nodded, but honestly he liked her terms of endearment. It made him feel good.

"Do you want to get something to eat." Miranda suggested.

"Yeah, are we eating fast food or cooking." Ben asked.

"Depending on the fast food."

"So pizza, burgers or something like that." He stated and Miranda shook her head no.

"You can't have any of those. You get heartburn." Miranda smiled and then laughed at Ben's facial expression.

"I'm old." He laughed.

"Mmm , just distinguish with a lil touch of grey." She laughed. "Come on we can order Mexican from the place by our house."

Ben nodded and stood on his feet before extending his hands to help her up.

After they pick up their food. They went home. Ben took in their house it was beautiful and he liked it. Miranda unlocked the door taking her coat off. Ben took his coat off and put it on the coat rack.

"This is the living room. The kitchen is right through that door. The kitchen also has the door to the garage. Right there is the dining room and I will show you the rest after we eat dinner.

Ben watched Miranda go into the kitchen and he admired her body as she walked away. The woman was truly blessed he thought. Looking at her in her jeans. He honestly couldn't wait to see her in a dress.

He walked from the front door and into the living room fully and his eyes landed on a picture of their wedding. It was beautiful and she looked beautiful as well. It must have been during their first dance. Ben picked up the frame and studied the picture. They were wrapped in each others arms and their foreheads were touching with eyes close and small smiles on their faces. Her arm was around his neck while he held her hand against his chest.

"Hey Ben I put the food on..." Miranda started but stopped watching him look at their wedding picture. She knew the frame from across the room.

"We look so happy and in love." Ben commented.

"We were and are." Miranda agreed.

"How long have we been married?" Ben Inquired.

"7 years." Miranda beamed smiling to herself. They had come a long way.

"We have a son?" Ben countered looking at the next picture of him, Miranda and a teenager.

"We do. His name is William after my dad and we call him Tuck after his dad. From my previous marriage."

"You were married twice?" Ben asked shocked.

"I was. Is that a problem?" Miranda asked judging his tone of voice.

"No it's not. Or it wasn't if I married you." He chuckled.

"We started dating in the middle of my divorce." Miranda stated.

"Mmm we move fast." Ben muttered and she laughed.

"I tried to tell you that, but you were so smitten with me." She added.

The two ate dinner and it was rather silent with a little conversation here and there. Miranda started throwing their trash away and Ben helped her.

She showed him all the rooms in the house. Tucks room the two guest rooms and hall bathroom. She open the door to their room so he could peer inside.

"Okay let me get you a towel, your soap, and shaving products." Miranda said standing at the threshold of the guest room. She came back with his things and set it on the bed.

"You can grab some of your clothes out of the closet in our room and the dresser drawers." She told him before walking to the living room to add notes to their calendar and to get her laptop.

Ben walked into their room and looked around getting a better look. It was nice and felt right. He walked into the closet and grabbed a few shirts sitting them on the edge of the bed before grabbing some pants. Ben looked around for the dresser drawer. He didn't know which ones was his. He walked over and open the top drawer and saw a lot of socks.

The next one he stopped for a moment clearly it wasn't his drawer, but damn the items that were in this one he liked. His eyes swept across the different lace patterns and colors. He looked at a bra and saw the size. She did have a healthy amount of breast and they looked full. His eyes traveled some more until it landed on a pair of red panties if they could even be called that. It was barley any material. He picked them up and examined them. He could picture them on what he was sure was an amazing body.

"Is that what you normally do? You go through strangers panty drawer." Miranda called from behind him. Standing at the door with her arms crossed.

"No I uh didn't mean to. I mean they are beautiful and I'm sure they would look wonderful on you... I didn't mean to say that... I uh mean... I didn't know which drawer was mine." Ben rambled not finding his words as his face grew hot as he dropped the panties in the drawer picking them back up quickly.

"Do you want me to fold them back." He questioned.

"I got it and give me those." Miranda said snatching them out of his hands.

"Your drawers are over here." Miranda said pulling them open grabbing his pajama pants and boxers tossing them at him.

"Thank you and goodnight Miranda." Ben said softly.

"Good night Benjamin Warren." Miranda said back before closing the door leaving it cracked some.
