Chapter 3

Well here's the update, I apologize for the delay, but literally my PC died, with everything inside. This chapter was already written in a different way, and I did not get to publish it before losing it.

I try to remember the essence of what I wanted to convey, and this is what was left.

I hope you enjoy.

Subject to part, I am working hard on the subject of pronouns.

I like your comments.

And I thank each of them.

And this chapter is especially for Denise (dpdp) who volunteered to be my beta.

The next morning, General O'Neill called a briefing to find out what Fraiser had discovered from the studies on the young woman.

The first to arrive was Daniel Jackson, who was deep in thought, followed by Janet.

They both took their places and waited in silence.

The next to appear was the General, who kept his face serious, when he took his place at the head of the table, looked at the other occupants, then said.

J: Where is Carter?

JA: I don't know sir, I didn't see her this morning.

D: She must be in her room.

Jack, who was about to say something at the time, was surprised by a voice coming from the door.

S: Sorry sir ... I had a difficult night. (he said taking a seat in his usual place)

J: Well let's get started, doc. What did you find?

JA: The young woman is in perfect health, the EMR was negative, but nevertheless there is something that caught my attention in her blood test ... she has the Naquadha marker, and the gene of the ancients, both are part of your genetics.

J: How can that be possible?

JA: The truth ... I don't know sir, I don't explain it either.

D: I think I may have the answer to that.

J: What are you talking about Daniel?

All eyes turned to the archaeologist.

D: The Naquadha marker is inherited from your mother and the old gene from your father.

J: And you know it because ...

D: Grace had a note among her things.

J: And you tell me now?

D: It's personal, Jack. Also, it is a note that I sent myself.

J: And what does it say?

D: That ... you ... are ... your parents.

At that moment all eyes were on the archaeologist.

Without saying a word, Sam got up from the table and hurried out. They all looked at her, but no one said anything to her. O'Neill sighed deeply and then spoke again.

J: Daniel ... that's impossible, I would know if I had a daughter. Also ... Carter?

JA: Actually, that would explain the genetic component of your blood, sir.

J: Doc. It's impossible.

D: Jack… Grace will be born in three years.

J: Daniel… it's against the regulations.

D: Yes ... but ...

J: No, Daniel, we are done. Fired.

D: Jack !

J: No! Daniel! (he said from behind entering his office and closing the door)

Janet and Daniel looked at each other and sighed visibly, they both knew how stubborn their friends could be about their feelings, neither would admit to having them.

D: Janet? Should Grace stay in the isolation room?

JA: Actually, no, why?

D: Go find her, see you in my office.

And with that they left.

An hour later Grace walked out of the archaeologist's office with a crooked smile and headed for the lab where she knew she would surely find Sam.

The lieutenant colonel was immersed as usual in one of her experiments, when she heard three soft knocks on the door.

He looked up to find an athletic young woman with long brown hair tied in a ponytail, staring at her with huge dark blue orbs.

S: Hello ...

G: Sorry to interrupt you.

S: No ... not at all ... it happens.

G: Are you sure? ... I know very well that you do not like to be interrupted when you are submerged with some artifact from another planet.

Sam was slow to respond, amazed at how he knew her so much without actually knowing her.

S: It's true ... but it's not really important.

G: Are you hiding then?

S: No ... why do you say so?

G: I also know that when you are angry with dad you take refuge in your laboratory.

S: I'm not mad at your father ! (he said hastily and without thinking) with… the… General.

G: Ok… if you say so. (he said sarcastically, something he had undoubtedly inherited from his father). What are you doing anyway?

S: Nothing, actually, I observe some readings of an ancient artifact.

G: Tell me (she said resting her chin on her hands and leaning in front of Sam)

S: I don't think you understand, don't be offended.

G: Look… (she said, standing with her hands resting on the surface of the table). My IQ is higher than the average human, as I understand it, I inherited it from my mother, that is, from you. You could say that I learned from the best.

S: I… I'm not your mother Grace… I'm sorry.

G: Ho ... you are, you just don't have me yet, I'll be born in three years. (She said very confidently)

Sam: It's against the rules Grace, besides ... I'm marrying Pete in a couple of weeks, and the General ... well, that ... is none of my business.

Grace walked around the table and stood next to her, resting her chin on one hand and looking at her closely, directly to the eyes

G: First let me tell you that where I come from there was no Pete, he has a solution.

S: But ... (tries to protest)

G: Ha ha ha ! (making a sign that he hadn't finished speaking yet). Second ... you have loved my father for years, you told me the story. And third, how do you explain my existence? Also, you have the tests in front of you, and according to me, it's something that you value, being able to test things.

S: But Grace, Pete… (unable to finish speaking).

G: I know you always do the right thing in the end, that's something I learned from you mom.

That word surprised Sam. But she still didn't know what to answer.

G: You are an exceptional person, you do not give up what you love because you think it is correct, I learned from both, never give up what you feel because of the problems you can go through ...

And with that he turned around and headed for the door, but before he left he turned to see her once more and say

G: I love you mom ...

So Sam was left alone, thinking about the conversation with the young woman, without a doubt she knew her intimately, and from what she saw she had so many things about herself at that age, but without a doubt very intelligent, and many others. things about ... his father ... the way of making him think and meditate on things, and the way of reaching his heart, was without a doubt ... Jack O'Neill.

At that very moment in the General's office, there was a soft knock on the door, Jack O'Neill was trying to review some reports when he told the person to enter.

KJ: Hi Jack.

J: Kerry? (He said he raised his head and was noticeably surprised.) What are you doing here?

KJ: I came to bring some documents for the General who orders the base to sign them, just paperwork.

J: Good. This makes me happy. (Said with a sideways smile)

KJ: I also thought that maybe we could have lunch together. (approaching her side and wrapping her arms around her neck)

At that moment someone knocked on the door. Kerry stayed by his side, but removing her arms from his shoulders.

J: Go ahead!

A young woman with brown hair and fascinating blue eyes poked her head out the door.

G: Hello ! (she said with a big smile and very animated). Ho! ... you're busy, sorry I'll be back later.

J: No… Come on Grace.

The young woman entered and closed the door behind her.

J: This is Agent Johnson from the CIA. (addressing the young woman). Agent Jonhson, Lieutenant Grace ... (said not knowing how to finish)

G:… Grace O'Neill, nice to meet you (he said with a notable smile and holding out his hand)

Kerry took the hand of the young woman somewhat taken aback by the name of the girl and Jack covered his face with his hands for a moment, a gesture that did not go unnoticed by Grace.

KJ: So… O'Neill, Lieutenant? Are you related to the General?

G: Ho ... yes, I am his daughter indeed. (said with a proud smile)

KJ: Your ... daughter? (looking at the General at his side). Jack, would you mind explaining to me?

O'Neill opened his mouth, but no sound came out, so it was Grace who responded in a funny but sarcastic way.

G: No, don't worry, he didn't know that I existed.

KJ: But you carry his last name

G: Yes, I know, it's that I'm actually from the future.

KJ: Ho ... I see ... how old are you?

G: 24.

KJ: And now how old are you?

G: I have not been born yet, it will be in three years.

KJ: Ok ... and your mother is ...

G: Colonel Samantha Carter. (she said proudly with a big smile like her mother's)

KJ: Ho! ... God ... (to O'Neill, who hadn't said a word until now). Jack ... you know it's against the rules, right?

J: Hey! (he said wanting to sound funny) it's the SGC, strange things happen here.

KJ: Do you have a clandestine relationship with the lieutenant colonel? (with obvious anger in the voice)

The young woman rushed to answer Jack.

G: Ho! No ... not yet, but he loves Mom so much, I can say that.

Jack looked at Grace narrowing his eyes as if to say "What?" Then she gave a noticeable sigh and said.

J: You mean your timeline (she said to Kerry, but looking at Grace with mock anger) Right Grace?

G: Yeah sure ... dad. (he said with an amused smile)

KJ: Anyway, I need you to sign the papers Jack, I have to go.

J: I thought we'd have lunch?

KJ: No… I remembered that I have to go back to the office.

Jack signed the papers and handed them to Kerry, who took them with some violence.

KJ: General, Lieutenant ... until another time.

And then she stormed out of the office and slammed the door behind her in a loud and gaudy way.

Then the young woman said in a funny way

G: I think your girlfriend doesn't like me.

J: Jo, for crying out loud! Grace ... Were all the details of your life necessary?

G: I'm sorry ... (she said putting her puppy look that she knew made her father melt for her, it would definitely work with this Jack too)

J: Listen… I know it must be difficult for you to be here and know that we can't do anything to fix it.

G: Look ... if there's one thing you and mom taught me, it's that I never give up, and that there is always a solution to problems if you look at it with the right perspective.

J: I think it sounds more like something Carter would say.

G: My mother, Sam is my mother and you ... you are my father, you two taught me never to give up.

J: You are a very brave girl.

G: I haven't heard you say that in a long time.

J: Do I say it often?

G: Not as much as I would like. (under her look a little sad)

J: Grace ... if you know me, well you, you know ...

G: Yes, I know ... I know you are not good with words, but we don't need them when we communicate with each other, and neither with Mom.

J: Regarding Carter, there is nothing he can do, it is against the rules, we would face a court martial.

G: I don't know the details, but I know that neither of us gave up.

The girl got up from her seat.

G: I'll leave you… I have to see the doctor.

J: Is everything okay with your health?

G: Yes, in general, except that I will cease to exist in six days, the rest is fine, it's just some tests that I wanted to do.

When the girl reached the door, she opened it and before leaving she stopped and looked at Jack again.

G: I love you dad.

O'Neill stared at the closed door for a long time, this was difficult, how could he allow this young woman who was his daughter, with whom he undoubtedly shared a special connection, to disappear without doing anything about it?

Meanwhile, Grace arrived at Daniel's office, who was waiting for her.

She closed the door behind her, looked at the man with a big knowing smile and said.

G: The first phase is underway.
