Five months. Five months in japan. Five months living with the number one pro hero. Five months since they left behind their family. Five months since they started working, and five months of All Might training that kid.
"So kid, are you sure you don't want to go home?"
"Yeah..." Paxton wanted to say this is home.
"Well then you need a legal guardian here in Japan."
"M-maybe you could be my legal guardian?"
He thought for a minute, "That might work..." Woah, that worked? "...But you'll need a letter of consent from your parents."
They mumbled "It sounds like you've thought this through".
Well, Paxton had also thought this through, dreams were coming true. They had seen the light! Back in america, people were trying to teach them how to run without them knowing how to crawl, they could finally take the time they needed to learn. But at the same time...once they got into U.A-If they got into U.A- they'd have to start running again. The world doesn't wait for you, but people can.
"I could give you their phone numbers so y'all can talk about it and stuff..." They suggested, this was their one chance.
"Okay." With that response they started scribbling down numbers. Although they weren't sure their "parents" would agree. He took the small piece of paper and dialed the first number, their father. That call took about an hour, then it was time for the mother, which was about 30-45 minutes. Someway, somehow, All Might had gotten them on board, wow. Just wow.
"They'll both be sending letters of consent." He confirmed, putting his phone back on the table. On the phone he said stuff like "they're going to be in U.A" and "they're happy". Before both of them had talked about Paxtons life back in America, so he had some knowledge of what their parents wanted to hear, they were successful and happy. They had a job, acceptance, and a roof over their head. Personally they were surprised their parents got up at 1:00-2:00 am to answer the phone, they had forgotten about the time difference between the two places. They say America's a free country but in Japan I finally feel free they thought to themself.
All Might saying "I have to go train young Midoriya now," snapped them back to reality.
"Okay, don't break him!" They joked. All Might responded with a small laugh, then went out the door.
When he left Paxton went to their room and put on some music. The first song that played was 'Lose Yourself'. On their bio dads side Eminem was practically god. Their sister had a crush on him, Eminems music helped their dad through his divorce, blah blah blah more examples. They knew all the lyrics. It reminded them that your dreams don't come true if you don't chase after them, and that's what they did; they ran away to pursue their dreams. They had to break promises when they went to japan... Most of them were to their baby cousins, 'I'll protect you' 'I'll always be there for you' 'I want to be more than a cousin, because friends can seem more like family than family can'.
Two weeks later
Both of the letters came in around the same time, which was nice. The next few things that went with guardianship passed in another week-or-so. Life was finally turning around, kid of the number one pro hero: All Might, They thought, wow, just wow.
"Have anything else you want, kid?" All Might asked with genuine curiosity.
"Could I change my name?" Paxton wondered, looking like a little kid on christmas.
"Sure, that's all?"
"Yup!"
Four months later because this is the only way I can think of to connect my thoughts and shit :D
Paxton Yagi. That was now their name, and Paxton Yagi was ready for whatever they had to do for the recommendations thingy. They were wearing their 'Put Your Hands Up Radio' shirt, a necklace with amethyst on it, and the dorky tracksuit thing that everyone else was wearing. They had killed the written test and the interview, but weren't sure how the practical exam would go. Everyone else seemed so strong and agile, and most likely had great quirks. All Paxton could do was imitate peoples voices, and even that had its limits... But one thing made them excited, Present Mic was there! It was hard to stop themself from fangirling... Fanboying? Fanenbying? God, was gender annoying. But it was Present Mic! The greatest loud blonde to ever exist! Paxton was 99.9% sure he was bisexual, the gaydar does not lie. They took their amethyst in hand and took a few deep breaths and when it was time, they ran like the motherf'n wind.
There were two guys in front that would be main competition. Paxton had heard their voices a few minutes before the race started, but only one of their voices worked with their quirk, so they yelled the first thing that came to mind; "hey daddy issues!" both of the guys looked back for a second but then continued on with great speed, and, a lot of ice... To be honest, they didn't know how they knew the red and white haired kid had daddy issues, it was kind of an educated guess. Paxton was just behind a cute, black haired girl, when the two boys up front passed the finish line.
They knew they wouldn't get first place in the race, they just hoped everything else could carry them to the hero course...
