Later that night Ellie stood in front of Nick's door, knocking twice before hearing footsteps.
"Ellie? What are you doing here?" Nick asked
"Hey Nick, is now a good time to talk?" Ellie replied
"Ya, come on in, I was just watching soccer." "You want a beer?"
"Ya sure." Ellie said reaching her hand out, then she realized and stopped.
"Oh, uh actually no." She said, retracting her hand.
Nick looked confused but put it back in the fridge and took a sip of his beer.
"Ellie look, if this is about the other night just forget it, I understand that it's not a good idea-"
"I'm pregnant." Ellie blurted out.
"Wh-what?" Nick asked shakily
"I'm pregnant" Ellie repeated, becoming more and more self conscious
"No no, I heard you. It's just, how is this possible? It was one night, and we used protection." Nick suddenly got very pale and clammy
"Nick… you ok?"
"Jesus Ellie, no I'm not okay, a baby?"
"Yes. A baby."
"Are you sure it's mine?"
"Oh come on Nick, how many men do you think I've slept with in the last few weeks."
"Well I don't know Bishop, how far along are you?"
"I don't know yet, I just found out yesterday."
They both sat in silence. By this point in a fit of anxiety Nick had chugged down the last of his beer and Ellie had been fidgeting with a loose string on her jacket.
"Nick.. say something." Ellie spoke softly
"I uh, sorry I'm just in shock I guess." he whispered back "What does this mean for us, I mean do you want to keep it?"
"I never imagined myself doing it this way but I did see myself becoming a mother eventually. I thought it would be later in life and with Jake, and if you don't want it I won't have it, I know its a lot of money and we both have demanding jobs-"
"Ellie slow down, of course I want to keep it, it's a baby, our baby."
"But what about us does this mean.. are we together?" Ellie asked
"Well ideally we would have dated and then gotten married and then had a kid, I have no idea what to do with the order reversed." Nick sighed
"I guess.. we could start dating? I know it's not ideal but I really like you Nick, and I want to make this work."
"I really like you too Bishop."
