Four faces looked back at Jimmy, including Gibbs who had finally arrived at the apartment. If they weren't so occupied with the shiny diamond looming over them they might have noticed the key turn in the lock with a small click. Five heads snapped back to face the door. Jimmy quickly threw the ring back into the cabinet, slamming the cabinet door behind him.
"Surprise!" They all yelled, completely oblivious to the events from a few moments before.
Ellie stood by the door, a key dangling from her hand and the fakest look of surprise on her face. It immediately became known to them that Nick had caved and told Ellie about the party. That man could not keep a secret if his life depended on it.
"You guysss" Ellie squealed. She draped her key on the side of the door and ran to hug each of her friends.
Ellie sat with Kasie and Delilah in the living room and Nick, Jimmy, Gibbs, and Tim stood by the kitchen counter, drinking beer.
"So.. anything new and SHINY in your future?" Jimmy joked, nudging Nick in the arm.
"Jimmy!" Mcgee hissed, kneeing him in the shin. Jimmy gasped in pain and sent a look to Mcgee.
Nick had caught a whiff of the weird behavior since they arrived and after ignoring it for the last hour, he had enough. "You guys are acting weird."
"We found the ring." Tim spat out, a little too loud.
"Jee Tim, keep your voice down why don't you." Nick motioned to the three girls, giggling across the room. Luckily none of them seemed to hear and continued on with their conversation.
"So.. does this mean we are getting a workplace wedding?" Jimmy enthused
Nick nodded, looking down at his hands. A huge smile spread across his face as his teammates congratulated him.
Nick and Ellie had just let the last of their friends out, Nick closing the door behind them. With a huge sigh, he made his way to the couch, where Ellie was already sitting and fell down with a grunt. Ellie sat peacefully, twiddling a piece of streamer in her hands. She cuddled closer with Nick as he ran his fingers through her silky blonde hair.
"Thanks for today Nick," Ellie whispered. She was now resting her head on his shoulder, breathing in his scent.
Nick hummed quietly, stroking her hair gently. "Anything for you, I love you El, and I am gonna love this baby."
Ellie melted at his words, sinking deeper into his chest as her eyelids fell and her breathing slowed. What did she do to deserve this?
Ellie chirped happily as she drove. She was overjoyed at the chance of seeing her beloved workplace, even just for a minute as she picked Nick up for lunch. Ellie had been going out of her mind at home and so when Nick had asked her to lunch she would've driven halfway across the world to pick him up. So to say that she was in a pleasant mood would be an understatement. Her hair was let loose flowing smoothly around her face as the wind pushed through the open car window. Could things get any better?
Nick on the other hand paced quickly across the bullpen in short strides. Today was the day. He had the ring, he had it all planned out. He clasped his sweaty palms together and contemplated making a last-ditch effort of a distraction and running for it. After twenty minutes of hearing Nick's combat boots clattering on the ground, Tim had enough and shot up quickly from his desk.
"Torres, I'm seriously rethinking bringing you that coffee this morning if this is the type of caffeine high you get." Kasie and Jimmy snapped out of their conversation at this shout and turned their heads.
Nick continued pacing, murmuring to himself. He turned briskly on his heels to face the group and pulled out a familiar velvet box from his pocket.
Kasie gasped and ran towards him, "Today? At lunch?" She could hardly contain her excitement as she jumped up and down.
"Good for you Nick." Tim smiled, suddenly less irritated.
"No, not good, I'm totally freaking out man," Nick stopped his pacing and stared blankly at Mcgee.
A silence-threatening ding was heard from the elevator and Nick hastily shoved the box back down in his pocket. They all turned their heads towards the door as a five-month pregnant Ellie stepped out.
They all immediately ran to her, saying their hellos and hugging her. When they finally recoiled she pulled Nick out, holding his hand and dragging him off to lunch. Nick shot a last-minute look of panic at Mcgee as he was dragged into the elevator.
Mcgee laughed as he turned back to his desk.
Lord help us all. He thought.
I have no idea what I was even thinking with this chapter, it's kinda just a big mess. But nonetheless, I enjoyed writing it and I am so excited for what's happening next. If you haven't already I would really love some input on what to name the baby. This story is getting increasingly long and so in the next coming chapters a few things may be rushed or cut out so I can just get to the main point. I know that it's annoying but this story has to wrap up eventually. I was thinking after they get engaged I would do a time jump to near the end of the pregnancy and then kinda wrap it up from there. But not to worry as I am already working on a few new fanfictions, some about other shows but I will be sure to write more Ellick stories. This explanation is really long so I'm gonna shut up now. Happy reading :)
