Chapter 12
A month passed by as everyone tried to get back to normal or as much as they could. Erza was checked on every day. One day, sitting by her bedside Jellal asked "how much longer do you think she will be like this Wendy?. Realistically please." "She should be waking up any day now."
"Are you, are you sure?" he asked as his mouth hung slightly ajar. "Yes, given the time she's had to heal and there's been no further trauma. I am hopeful she will wake up this week. I just can't say what day" she explained with a happy smile.
"That's alright Wendy. Just the news…" he muttered. "Fills me with joy. Thank you" "Your welcome. You know you and Erza mean the world to me. I'll be back to check you guys later" she said with a polite nod as she walked out.
Grabbing her hands with hope, he said " come back soon..my love. We all miss you." Kissing the top of them, he gently laid them back down at their sides. Meanwhile back at the house, Natsu's birthday was coming up in a few days amidst the chaos, Natsu had completely forgotten about it but his girls had not. Lucy was taking care of the guest list while Layla and Lily worked on making sure Natsu was out of the house for a bit the day of his birthday so as not to draw suspicion on them.
"You sure your dad isn't going to suspect anything..I mean he isn't dumb" asked Lily. Layla laughed and said "oh please, when it comes to his birthday or something related to him, he's completely dense. He never thinks of himself." "I can believe that. Is Tristan coming?" "Of course, but as for anyone else, that's moms department. She's leaving the guest list a surprise."
"Huh? I would think it would be obvious who else is coming" Lily said giving Layla a look. "Not necessarily I mean aside from Gray and Jellal, the rest is as good as mine. It depends how big mom want's the party to be." "Any word on when she's going to go back on tour?"
"She won't go back until Aunt Erza is awake and out of the hospital. Her and Jellal wouldn't be able to go out on the road knowing she was asleep and could wake up any second. Neither would anyone else." "I can understand that. I wouldn't feel right either if I were in her position." Lily turned missing the warm smile on Layla's face as she thought ' What happened to me was James's fault, not yours Lily. Ha, Dad's is not the only one getting a surprise in a few days' the thought made her want to jump in excitement and joy, but she kept her composure. 'Just a few days and then it's official'
"Hello, what's up Jellal?" Lucy asked picking up her phone hearing his ringtone. The girls walked over hearing Jellal's name and watched Lucy's face turn into one of shock then hung up a second later.
"Girls get your shoes on now" she commanded quickly in a unquestioning tone as she ran to the back of the house. Not questioning it, the girls ran upstairs and grabbed their shoes as they heard Lucy. "NATSU! QUIT WORKING OUT, COME ON!" "Wha, HEY LUCE , WHAT THE HELL!" he yelled making the girls chuckle some as they waited by the front door.
"IT'S ERZA, LETS GO!" she shouted making everyone shut up as they all went with Lucy out the door.
Jumping into the car, Lucy drove as Natsu looked over and said "Luce, what is going on? what did Jellal tell you?" the girls leaned forward in their seats anxiously waiting for her answer, but she said nothing making everyone nervous. "Lucy!" He saw a tear fall down her right eye but no sign of sadness freaking him out.
"Luce?" "Erza..she..,she woke up" she said happily as tears kept going down her face. Everyone's breaths caught in their throats as Layla squealed and threw her hands around Natsu's neck from behind shaking him.
"DAD! SHE'S OKAY! SHE'S AWAKE!" she screamed throwing his head to back of his seat. Grabbing her hand, he yanked it off his throat. "Easy Layla" he urged as she shook him again with her other hand. "I can't help it!, I'm so happy." "I know" he said softly looking at her out of the corner of his eye.
"I'm happy too" Amused, Lucy said "Layla baby, let your dad's jacket go, I don't think his back can take anymore being shaken or slammed into his seat" Laughing Layla let go as Natsu gave Lucy a silent thank you but heard Lily and Layla snickering in the back making both of the Dragneel parent's hearts leap with joy. It didn't take them long to get to the hospital.
"Did you let Tristan know ?" Lucy asked as they got out. " Yes, for sure. He said he will be over once he's done helping his mom with something" Layla replied. "Let's go" said Natsu stopping the talking. They walked over as Natsu opened the door letting the girls through then they all ran to Erza's room where Jellal was sitting and had a bright ,cheerful smile on his face.
They froze seeing Erza sitting and giving them her familiar smile. "Erza" Lucy cried lovingly. The woman she loved as a sister was awake and smiling like no time had passed. They all filed in around her and Jellal letting her look upon them. "Natsu..sir" she said graciously.
"Oh psh, Erza , drop the formal crap. You know better then anyone you don't have to call me that" "No we just call him hothead" They all looked him pleased to see Gray standing in the doorway. "Hey Gray" she greeted.
"Glad to see you up" he said nonchalant as he walked over. "Gajeel should be along soon. Can't have the last member of the band left out..or we would never hear the end of it" causing everyone to start laughing. "Are you all doing alright?" she asked once they all stopped laughing and calmed down. "Jellal told me everything that happened.." The silence was deafening as nobody said a word.
"Layla?" Seeing Layla's face , Lucy put a hand on her shoulder. "You haven't seen everything though" Layla muttered. Lifting her sleeves, Erza gasped slightly. Reaching , she put a hand on top of Layla's and said softly "you'll heal in time, I promise and just remember we are all here." Layla looked around to see everyone in agreement.
Feeling Lucy take her hand off of her shoulder, Layla threw her arms around Erza's neck. "I missed you so much Erza" her voice filled with tears. Placing one hand on her back, using the other she rubbed the back of Layla's head while she heard the cries coming from Layla.
"I'm not going anywhere, I'm sorry I couldn't be there to keep you from having this trauma…but I promise I'll be here to help you precious niece" Hugging her tighter, she said "I love you Erza" "I love you too" she said tenderly.
Releasing from her, Layla went back to her mom and laid her head on her shoulder as Lucy wrapped her hands around her shoulders. "So, what did you do with the son of a bitch?" she asked Natsu coldly not hesitating throwing everyone off but not surprising them.
'Surprised she didn't ask sooner' "Jellal didn't tell me but I'm going to guess he's buried in the ground and I missed my shot" "No" he answered emotionless looking her in the eyes. " Killing him would have been too easy. That sorry bastard is rotting in one our cells at the base. Doomed to live out the rest of his days one, slow, miserable day at a time."
"More then he deserves" Erza answered without thinking as Jellal eyed her subtly and glanced at Lily who hadn't said a word and didn't look like it bothered her but Jellal knew better. 'She's burying it.' he thought thinking back to when she grabbed Natsu and told him it wasn't her father that she was worried about.
"I'm sorry Lily. It was rude of me to say that" she said humbly nodding her head to Lily. "It's alright" she said turning her head away with a shy smile. "I got to see who really cared about me"
"Sleeping Beauty finally awake huh?" they all turned to see Gajeel standing there with a great big grin on his face. "Nice to see you too, damn idiot" Erza said amused as he walked over and gave her a nice hug.
"Lay." "Tristan" Layla called happily walking out of the room to see Tristan walking down the hall. With a loving smile, he shuffled and hugged Layla as she returned the hug and gave him a kiss. "
How's Erza?" he asked. Pulling him to the room, she said "ask her yourself" "Hello Tristan" Erza greeted. "Hi Erza. Glad to see your awake" "Me too, I feel like I've been in a nap for hours but that's not going to stop your training" Confused, he looked around as everyone started laughing.
"Uhh, did I miss something?" he asked. "No honey" Layla said through breaths of laughter. "Erza..you just woke up, leave it to you to want to work your body. Damn, I swear nothing short of death would stop you" teased Natsu.
"Besides , he's been working his ass off thanks to Natsu" said Lucy crossing her arms lightly looking at Tristan. Erza raised her eyes questioning making Lucy laugh harder. "Erza, come on you think Natsu out of anyone would let Tristan slack off? My MMA husband" Shaking her head, Erza chuckled and said "good point. What was I thinking"
"Well as your leader, I can assure you there is no hurry for Jellal has done a good job while you've been gone. So just rest up. And that's an order, I mean it" he said with a smirk and a wink. "I'm guessing Erza isn't one for recovering" Tristan whispered to Layla and Lily.
"She never has been. Bedrest is not a strong suit for her" Layla whispered back teasingly. A few hours passed as they all sat and talked letting themselves relax. Lucy was happy to see Natsu let lose and laugh. 'He's had to handle so much. It's a joy seeing him smile' she thought as she looked at him then Layla. 'Both of them' Once the sun was setting, everyone got up.
"We'll leave you guys in peace. We've stuck around long enough" said Natsu.
Waving his hand, everyone followed as they waved goodbye to Erza. Hanging back for a moment, Lucy and Layla went to Erza's bedside with eager smiles on their faces. "What's with those faces?. Have I missed something?" "Natsu's birthday is coming up in a few days" "WHAT!" Erza screamed in surprised.
"SHHHH" Lucy urged hoping Natsu wouldn't be running back. "Anyway.. yes, his birthday is in a few days. Thought you would want to know" "YES! ,you can count on me being there!" she said adamant as Jellal shook his head in agreement making Layla giggle. "Well I'll add you to the list then. Come on baby girl, before your dad comes in here to drag us out" she teased.
Giving Erza and Jellal each a hug, they walked out where Natsu and the others were outside waiting by their cars. "What took you two so long?. I know it wasn't cause you got lost" he said with sarcasm.
"Shut it Natsu, we just had to talk to her about something, that is all you need to know" she answered giving him a hard look letting him know he wouldn't get anything else out of her. "Damn Luce..been a while since you gave me that look" he said pulling at his collar. "This is why you don't piss off or question the dragon queen" Gajeel whispered to Tristan.
Gray gave a slight nod as the two Dragneels turned and narrowed their eyes at them. "Something to say?" "No ma'am. Sir!" they all answered quickly. Keeping a calm composure next to Lily, Layla was laughing inside 'Doesn't matter who you are, they will kick anyone's ass' Clapping her hands together, Lucy cleared her throat and said "All of you go on home for the night. We will see you in a few days." "Yes ma'am" they answered with a smile. (slight lemon coming up)
Once they got home, Natsu and Lucy sent the girls up to bed. He casually shut their door behind them as they walked into their room. "Natsu?..what's with that face?" she asked noticing a peculiar grin on his face.
Putting a finger to his lips, he shushed her walking up to her until she was looking up at him. Smiling, he lightly ran his fingers across her arms as he lowered his face down to her. Taking her face in his hands, he laid a deep kiss on her filled with passion and desire.
Lowering herself onto the bed, she put her arms behind her letting Natsu strip her clothes off bit by bit. "I haven't had you in forever Luce. Tonight , you are all mine" Lost in his touch, she absently nodded. Stripping off her shirt and bra last, he threw them into a corner and began sucking her breasts. "Naa.. " she moaned in pleasure.
"Heh, that's my girl, keep it going" he whispered. He left her breasts wet as he started planting kisses down her body causing involuntary movements but Natsu didn't mind it. "You weren't the only thing that missed me it seems" he teased as she shuttered. "You ready Luce?" he asked longingly.
Seeing the desire in his eyes, she pleaded "yes master. Please do with me what you will." Taking her answer, he slipped inside her and began thrusting back and forth making her scream. "That's it baby. Scream as loud as you want . I want to hear all of it" They continued giving into their desire well into the night until their bodies finally gave out and they fell asleep as the sun was creeping up onto them.
A few days went by when the day of Natsu's birthday arrived. It was a challenge getting Natsu out of the house without giving anything away, but Gray came through for them when he called and said there was an idiot looking to come challenge him and everyone knew Natsu no matter what could not resist a challenge.
" Stupid idiot, Ha, I'll be back ladies. Going to make the fool regret stepping into my territory" The girls chuckled to themselves as Lucy said "just come back in one piece Natsu" Giving him a quick kiss, he smiled and returned it and waved to the other two then walked out the door.
"FINALLY!, alright girls, you know what to do!" Lucy exclaimed excited. "Yes ma'am" they said standing to attention then ran to the back and grabbed everything Lucy had bought and had kept hidden until Natsu's birthday. "Leave it to Gray to get dad out of the house." "Baby girl, your uncle knows better than most your dad can't resist a challenge to save his life. Least in most cases" "True but I am so happy aunt Erza is coming" she squeaked cheerfully.
" Does he really not realize his birthday is today?" Lily asked them helping them set stuff up. "Sadly, his birthday wasn't always something he like to celebrate after his father died. I always did a little thing for him but as for the actual date, no he forgot it. But that's alright" "Yeah, dad's just never focused on himself but that's who dad is"
"Lily, this year is going to be great, he's got all of us, and our team. This will be a birthday he wont forget." Layla nodded in agreement and as they went to put a few streamers up, they heard a knock at the door.
" Jellal, aunt Erza!" Happily, she jumped in the air and threw her arms around Erza's waist hugging her. "Hi Layla" she said warmly. "So glad you're here!" "I wouldn't miss this for the world, you kidding me" she teased.
"Hey kid" Hey Jellal!" giving him a big hug. "Come on guys. You know Gray can only keep Natsu occupied for so long. I can only imagine his face when Gray tells him the challenger left" she laughed. "Let's get to work then" said Erza.
Putting on some of Lucy's music, Layla smiled and said "ready! Singing out, they all set the house up as Tristan came in while they put the finishing touches on the house after an hour. "Hi honey" greeted Layla, walking up to him, she gave him a light kiss. "The house looks great. Nice job guys" he complimented. "Thanks" Lucy answered for them. Bright red streamers, balloons, were all hung around the house and a giant banner that said happy birthday was hung right in the middle of the house.
" I recognize that voice, woah Lucy is that you?" he asked hearing the music. "Yes, that's my mother! Beautiful voice right?" Layla said excited. "Only the greatest!" Lily yelled in agreement.
Erza and Jellal chuckled watching as Lucy's face turned red from embarrassment. "Stop girls, your making me blush" she said putting her hands to her cheeks. "They aren't wrong Lucy. Your voice is one in a million. Always has been, always will be. After all, your voice has saved us more then once. Never be ashamed of that" he said softly walking up to her and put a hand to her cheek.
"Thanks, Jellal" "When are you guys thinking about going back on tour?. Have you talked about that?" Tristan asked. " Within the next couple weeks" Lucy answered eyeing Jellal and Erza who nodded in agreement. "That's great. Congrats Lucy" he said as he heard a knock on the door. "Oh, guess its time then" she said cheerful as she walked up to the door.
"Hey guys!" she said letting Gajeel, Levy and Violet inside. "Hey, so where is the hothead? He would have said something the moment I walked through the door." "Really Gajeel?, we just got through the door" Levy said giving him a look. "What?' he said innocently.
Giving him a light smack on his head, she pushed him forward as Juvia and Owen showed up at the door. "Owen!" Violet yelled waving him to where she stood with Layla, Lily and Tristan.
"Violet, Layla!" Excited, he ran right over where Layla hugged them both. "Hi Lily" they both said in unison. "Hi..hi" she answered shyly. "Don't worry Lily, they wont hurt you" teased Layla. "Just surprised they knew my name?" she muttered making the kids confused. "It's alright guys. Go play. We'll be along in a few" ushered Layla. "Okay" they answered hyped up running outside. "Lily, they knew your name because you aren't a stranger anymore. Your family to them" "Really?"
Taking her hand, Layla looked at her with a soft look in her eyes. "Yes Lily. You aren't the same person you used to be" " We better go Layla, who knows what hell those two are causing outside" Right" she laughed. Pulling Lily with her, they all ran outside while the adults followed behind. "So how long before Gray can't fool him anymore, knowing Natsu, he'll see right through it" Erza said with a smirk. "I just him a text so it shouldn't be long" "And it looks like everyone is here"
"Not quite. Still waiting on a few more" Lucy said with a mischievous look. " Who else are you waiting for Lucy?" "Nope, you'll know when they get here" . They didn't get a chance to say anything else before they heard sounds coming from outside. "Really Gray!, why the hell did you let them get away. Fuck man, went all that way for nothing" Lucy and Layla giggled as they heard Gray amused saying
"What can I say Natsu, he didn't want to wait and thought you were taking too long" 'Nice job Gray, nothing else would get his stubborn butt back here' Lucy thought as she motioned everyone to hide. Diving behind whatever they could, they heard Natsu let out an annoyed breath.
Unlocking the door, he walked in as everyone shouted, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATSU!" Party poppers went off making Glitter explode in the living room. Stunned he stood there in silence making everyone worry for a moment. "Dad?" Layla muttered walking up to him slowly. Taking his hand, she saw his face turn into a great big grin.
"Thank you guys. Ha,ha, I had no idea today was even my birthday" he laughed relieving everyone. Thrilled they all yelled in joy and happiness as he hugged Lucy and the girls tightly. "Thank you, all three of you" he whispered to the them. "Your welcome" they answered making him give them a squeeze. "Love all of you" "We love you too" they all replied in unison. "So, happy that "guy" didn't show up now" teased Gray.
Releasing the girls, he smirked and said "ha , ha your very funny. You damn liar, there was never any guy challenging was there? You needed an excuse to get me out of the house"
"Oh, look at that, hothead does have a brain under all that cockiness." "Your looking for a smack Gray" he boasted with a smirk. "Nahh, get outside birthday boy" he said pushing Natsu out the door while they others followed behind them chuckling.
Jellal had began cooking. Pulling at Layla's arms, she went with her younger cousins pulling Lily and Tristan with her. Time went by , everyone was enjoying themselves , Natsu felt like the luckiest guy in the world. 'Lucy pulled this whole thing off, and I had absolutely no idea. She pulled everyone together for this when I had no clue it was even my birthday. Damn' "I love you" he whispered into her ears as he walked up behind her and put his arms around her waist.
"I love you too. Happy birthday my love." "I got the greatest gift I could ever want" he said kissing her neck making her giggle. "There's still one more surprise" she said with a smirk as the surprise walked right through the door. "Yo, what's up Natsu. You think I'd miss a day like this!" 'Oh god…No' thought Layla and Natsu embarrassingly. They dreadfully turned themselves towards the back door where Lucy was standing with smiles glued on their faces. 'Lucy, you're going to pay for this later' Lucy laughed at the intense look in his eyes 'MOM!'
"Might as well go say hi" he muttered to himself while Layla shook her head and went back to playing with her cousins and the other two. "But I don't have to do it alone" he said with glee and walked over to Tristan.
"Hi. , hey, what's going on" he said as Natsu pulled him. "DAD!, I thought you loved me!" she yelled seeing him drag Tristan with him to Sting and Rogue. "I do baby girl! That's why I gotta do this" he teased. "DAD!" 'If I'm going to be embarrassed, your going too right along with me' Throwing Tristan in front of him, Sting and Rogue looked him up and down.
"Dude, are you seriously wearing that?" Sting scoffed. Hearing him, Layla smacked her head. 'God, he's starting already!. Why dad why!' "Sting, just let him be" he said plainly then looked at Tristan making him shutter. "So you're her boyfriend then huh?, WE didn't get to talk the last time" "Ye..yes. that's me" "Tch, and your telling me to lighten up, your scaring the kid,. Stop being so damn serious, It's Natsu's birthday after all" he said giving Rogue a light punch on the arm.
Sliding an arm around Tristan's shoulders, he gave Layla a mischievous smirk. "Hey Tristan.. Layla tell you any embarrassing stories yet about her?" "NO, STING!" she screamed shaking her head, running over, she squeezed herself between Tristan and Sting. "Please uncle Sting, no. Don't torture me like that" she begged.
"Hey Sting" said Gray who had noticed and waved everyone else over. "What's up Gray?" "Good to see you Sting, Rogue" Erza formally greeted giving them a nice nod. "Hey Erza, it's great to see you up and walking around. I knew nothing could keep you down for long. Your way too damn strong and stubborn" he complimented. Her cheeks tinted pink as she chuckled.
"Thank you Sting" "So is this everyone?" Gajeel asked. "Or does Lucy have any other surprise guests coming?" "Nope, this is everyone. Had to save the best for last" "Hey guys!, food is up, come and get it!" Jellal announced. Grabbing a plate, they each filled their plate and sat around in a circle. "Hey , guys I have a question" he stated getting everyone to turn their head. "What's up Tristan?" asked Lucy lightly. "How did Natsu meet you guys?" he asked nodding to Sting and Rogue.
"You want to tell him or should I?" Rogue asked Sting. "Nahh, I got it.. It's not that big of a deal" he said with a mouthful of burger. Swallowing, he cleared his throat. "Honestly, I was one of the punks that challenged Natsu for his territory" Spitting his drink out, he coughed as Layla patted his back.
"You alright there?" "Ye..yeah..you what?, You were one of the jerks that's challenged Natsu before? How the hell did you become Layla's uncle then?" "Ha well now see that's where things get interesting" He gave Natsu a look as Natsu smirked and shook his head.
" I was in it for myself at the time. Natsu was the strongest mafia leader that had been for a while, hell he still is but I was determined to battle the mightiest guy around." "Psh, dumbass" "Yeah, yeah, but can't say I didn't try" Sting replied amused to Natsu. "Soooo…"
"Yeah, anyway, Yeah, I went up to Natsu's door..where as you can see everyone in front of you, yeah they were all there too but Mr. Dragon over there said. Oh what was it. "Hang back guys, this punk is mine" "Hey, you were the one who decided to come at me by yourself" "Rogue was there" "Sure but he didn't go walking up to the door like an idiot did he?"
"GUYS" Lucy yelled sternly but smiled as she softly said "your getting off topic, Sting, tell Tristan how you guys met" " Yes ma'am" he muttered quickly as everyone fell silent. 'Damn, sometimes I forget just how powerful Lucy can be' he admired.
"Getting back to it, Natsu came out and like the cocky bastard I was, I went straight for him. He of course didn't let me get more then one punch in before he had my ass on the ground." "Rogue didn't help you?" "No, I stayed out of it since I told him it was a bad idea to begin with and that we should have just talked to him" "Ahh, I see" " Yeah, but he didn't beat me to hell, just enough that I got the lesson..but the thing that surprised me was the smile he had on his face. I mean he was serious, but he had a smile on his face."
"I was impressed, what can I say, you were the first that was that bold enough to completely face me alone but when you told me why you were doing this , your answer was a load of crap and we both knew it."
"Why did you really go to him Sting?" Tristan asked gently. "I went or so I thought I went because I wanted to beat the baddest son of a bitch out there, but I was just kidding myself. No…I went because I wanted to see how he got so many people to respect and got as big a family as he did"
"Damn, but..I..I'm still confused, how did you become who you are now too to them?" "Ha, because after I got my ass handed to me, Rogue and I went back to the mafia, this time without an agenda and asked him to train us"
"WHAT!, YOU WERE THEIR TEACHER!?" he shouted gazing at Natsu. "Yeah, I taught them to become the guys they were" "And during that process, it didn't take him long that long to trust us and introduced us to Lucy and Layla. It's true, once you've got Natsu Dragneel on your side, you've got a family for life"
"Speaking of family, hey is everyone done eating!?" Lucy yelled to everyone who nodded in response. With warm, glowing smiles, Natsu and Lucy got to their feet as she went inside and came back out with a shined up wooden document in her hands. Confused faces were all around the two of them as they called out Lily.
Silently, with her nerves shaking, she stood up and walked over. "No need to be nervous honey" Lucy said 'It's not just my day today Lilyanna' Natsu thought happily kneeling down to her. Taking her hand, her heart calmed down seeing the glow on his face.
"What's going on?" " Lilyanna..when you first got here, you were broken, betrayed and a kid who shouldn't have gone through the shit that you did." She put her face down in shame "I also…hurt Layla" "Hey" she looked up to see Layla standing beside her. "That was in the past, that's not who you are anymore"
"What's with the box?" she asked shyly pointing. "Oh this, well why don't you open it and find it" Lucy said sweetly handing Natsu the box who held it in his hands letting Lily open the lid. "I..I.." she rapidly shook her head not being able to form words as tears streamed down her face. This document hereby decrees Ms. Dorsey born on Sept 14 has been formally adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Dragneel. "So what do you say? Want to become a part of our family, become my daughter ?. All Lucy and I have to do is sign it"
Choked up, she said "I..tthoought .I..already wass" Their faces lit up as Lily jumped at Natsu throwing her arms around him. "YES, A MILLION TIMES YES!" she screamed joyfully.
Shocked but not surprised, everyone clapped and cheered for Lucy and Natsu had told no one about it. Setting her on the ground, Lily didn't let go of Natsu's neck as she grabbed Lucy and pulled her into while Natsu motioned for Layla to join. Going over, they all huddled together. "I love you..mom and dad, Layla" "We love you too" ' I have a family..finally. Lilyanna Dragneel' the thought as the thought made her heart burst with glee as she fully embraced her new life.
That's the end for now. I hope you all really liked it. There will be another story for this series later this year. For now, im taking a break and going back to my guild stories cause there's an arch I really want to do there. Please let me know what you think of this last story. and im sorry for how long it took me to update.
