Alone.

At least 5 weeks had gone by since her arrival into the hospital. Hope was starting to leave, tears built up as she laid alone in her hospital bed. The scent of fresh flowers and gourmet chocolates filled the room. How was it she felt so alone? Her room was barricaded with gifts, tons of flowers all beautiful some more thoughtful than the last some were actually rare. But… they were only gifts from those she had become enemies with. Tears began to flow down the sides of her face, this was a similar situation….

"…Usually the most hated person is the one who is shown the most love when down… probably in fear of you getting well." She quickly looked over to see Marik had walked in. His face was twisted, a slight frown, "It's almost the same as our break up… Oh how I just wish that day could be erased." Mai froze, her first heart break. "…I'm sure it doesn't need to be asked… you remember it too don't you?"

How could she forget? A day where she was quickly rushed to the hospital because of an abusive foster father. Then there was so much blood… she fell into a coma. Waking up she got the rudest wakeup call ever. She looked down at her arms, her skin was perfectly flawless. "I won't have as many scars as I did then… tell me the reason you abandon me?"

"My answer is the same then as it is now. I never loved you… I enjoyed seeing you in pain. While you were asleep I visited just to see the restless and scared version of you. Your beauty royally pissed me off, all I could think of was just seeing your hair stained in blood... your infatuation of me made it all the more easier to see the imperfections, you trusted me so much." No express showed on Mai's face. His answer was the same. "I was a bit ruthless… I do apologize for that…"

That caught her attention, her mouth opened slightly of shock. "For everything?" two words held more emotion than ever, sadness, hope, shocked….

Marik smiled, "… come now Mai surely you know me better than that." Mai was now confused. "… I only apologize for not being the only heart break for you to experience… I did take pride in that, knowing I made such a horrible experience. But I'm afraid… Bakura will be far worse than I ever was."

"He's… not coming to see me again will he?"

Marik shrugged, "he's complicated. I'm not sure where he is myself…" he watched as Mai quickly reached for her cell, seconds later she frowned as she set it back down. "…He's been gone for two weeks now… maybe his insanity got the better of him? Or maybe he's chasing Pegasus? He was quite determined for some type of revenge."

"It wouldn't take him two weeks…" Mai said staring down at her phone. Again, he was ignoring her. Maybe it was the mixed emotions? Or maybe he just didn't feel the same way and this was just easier to say so. Was this a repeat? The second time someone broke up with her without even actually being with her. "…I'm guessing you've only come to see the hurt look on my face when I found out."

Marik smiled, "You have a bad habit falling for men who want to see a pretty girl hurt… You should have tried with that pathetic kid Joey… could've saved you some heartache." Mai relaxed back into her bed as she heard the door close behind Marik as he walked out.

Mai sighed as she looked around her room. Hurt couldn't describe how she was feeling. Anything to forget the last few months, she would gladly give anything and everything. She was desperate and she dialed again on her phone, to get the same no answer several times. Each time, left her feeling more alone than ever before. Be careful of who smiles at you. You'll never know if its to see you happy or to see your pain.
