"Honeystar! Come quick!" He turned around sharply, "What is it Fernfrost?" The queen looked at him terrified, "Your kits! They're coughing blood!" "What do mean?!" he growled. "Come see!" with that she turned back to the nursery. Honeystar dashed after her.

He burst into the nursery yowling, "Where are my kits?!" Mothdeer looked at a nest where three shivering forms laid. On closer inspection, Honeystar saw that that two were coughing violently, were as the other one was still and silent. Mothdeer padded back over to the kits. She nudged the still one, then again. When she turned around her face was a mix of fury and sadness.

"Wha-" "STOP!" Honeystar was so startled at Mothdeer's sudden anger, he immediately stopped walking toward her. Was she not always calm? "Mothdeer, what's going on!?" he asked in panic. The medicine cat took a deep breath, "I'm sorry. It's-it's just, I don't know how to fix it!" Honeystar lowered his head. "I understand. You should have Breezepaw consult with the other medicine cats." Mothdeer's eyes lit up. "Of course! Maybe they know a cure!" She turned around quickly, calling for her apprentice.

Soon the grey and white tom appeared in the entrance of the den. "Yes, Mothdeer?" he asked. "Breezepaw, these kits have a sickness where they cough blood. I need you to ask the other medicine cats if they have a cure," Mothdeer explained. Breezepaw dipped his head, "I'll head out right now." He padded to the back of the den and took some leaves and other stuff off the shelf. Seeing Honeystar's inquiring look, Breezepaw meowed, "Chamomile, calendula, slippery elm, fennel and garlic. For strenghth and a few other uses." The young tom quickly ate the herbs and padded out of the den. Finally, Mothdeer sighed and turned back to Honeystar. "What do my kits have?" he whispered.

"Your kits have red-cough. And it's contagious."
