Disclaimer: I do not own Overlord I just like it
Well it was Easter when I started writing this chapter, even though I didn't know how it would turn out I figured neither my cousins, aunts/uncles or even sister would come see me so I spent a lot of time playing Fire Emblem Three Houses. Thank you.

Before every ash was pitter-pattering on the floor, Naberial took off from the ground to the window she went crashing through. Once she was floating in the sky through the window, she surged electricity in her hands. It was her attempt to rid the castle of every living organism except Shinirael-even if she could...she grew close to him.
Flashback:
In the late afternoon before nightfall Nabe and Shinirael soared out of a tiny crack Nabe's Dragon Chain Lightning sundered open. First Nabe and then Shinirael. They were free only to be tethered to the mission with the human adventurers.
However, trouble loomed over them. This trouble was none other than the fiercest being in the New World and god forbid Yggdrasil: dragon. A gigantic dragon he was with dark green scales, one blue eye with yellow sclera, dark orange underside, light green claws, and antler-esque ghostly transparent purple horns, three protruding horns on its forehead, and a scar etched over its right eyes with a few holes also in its wing membranes.
After defeating a horde of wyvern Shinirael wasn't scared of just one dragon even if he was massive. But he was the most impressive dragon he and Nabe have seen in the valley thus far and it would be deign to engage it without learning from it.
"Have you seen five adventurer's stroll through here?" Shinirael asked, trailing off to find more of a prominent description for one of them, but all of them were picayune looking. Then he remembered the tiny mage. "One of them wears a mask and wears a red coat?"
The dragon breathed in and out fixated on Nabe and Shinirael. It lowered its head just to get a closer glimpse at them. Despite being a being with a thousand years of experience and resistance that surpassed even the most stalwart warriors and mages, he was quivering in his ridge staring at them.
"SO SMALL TO BE BEACONS OF HOPE!" His voice said in a loud way. "I WAS ONCE A LAZY DRAGON; HUMANS IGNORE ME I IGNORE THEM! BUT THEN THIS DEMON SHOWED UP ENSLAVING ME AND MY KIN TO DO HIS BIDDING! FUNNY THING IS...YOU BOTH ARE ALMOST THE SAME AS HIM! WHAT ARE YOU?!"
Since they were not around humans and out of all people a dragon asked him, Shinirael acquiesce to him wanting to find out whom he was speaking to. Like he did many times before with Naberial/Nabe he showed off his frowsy wings; white and grey. Nabe was a doppelganger so just showing her maid uniform wouldn't prove she wasn't human unlike her sisters not including CZ2I28 Delta. The dragon was intrigued.
"ARE YOU A DARK GOD?!"
"No. We are just humble servants to the greatest beings this world will ever know. We implore you to take us to this demon controlling you so we can defeat him and free all of you." Shinirael sanguinely said.
The dragon's nostrils were expelling air as he stared long and hard into Shinirael's unfettered eyes. Next thing the dragon did was turn around and march on all fours away from them.
"I cannot carry you directly to my masters' prison. That being said...I am just a dragon marching back to base. If you can keep up with me I'll have failed to stop you from finding my master."
Shinirael didn't see how his master would be so foolish as to see a dragon walking in a desert as not letting someone follow it back to his lair. Shinirael stood in place and watched the dragon leave-when he was nothing more than a green sunset on the horizon he would flutter off the ground and tail him.
However, Naberial with her adventurer clothes on wasn't so eager to follow him.
"If Lord Ainz were here he would want us to return to Nazarick and bring extra help. Something about this master he speaks of feels...prickling."
"Your Lord Ainz would want you to report back to him..." Shinirael trailed off. He had a one track mind: "Lord Dack wouldn't want us to risk being found out when he breach this demon's hold and look heroic in front of all my comrades and the dark mage."
Shinirael took off the ground, Nabe staring at him with her prominent cold unhappy face.
"You can do the Naberial thing and get backup. I'll do the Shin thing and save people who would be lost without him."
Shinirael could see the dragon appearing as nothing more than an ant the higher he soared. He believed he would have to follow him alone, until he noticed raven dark hair in a ponytail wriggling with the headwind.
"So Nabe wins against Naberial...this time?"
Nabe didn't say a word while they were soaring through the clouds mid-evening. Late evening, when they finally stopped flying to take a break like the gigantic dragon with its underbelly toppling over its smaller claws, Shinirael used ice magic to freeze the air until it was a severed tree looking piece of air than used fire breath to light the air on fire, the same magic that concealed the air also kept the fire oxidizing so being around it made them feel a little warm.
Nabe kept her eyes on the dragon-his head vibrating and his eyes even the scarred one shuddering over something. This staring made her miss something: another cold blooded reptile swaying its body left and right until it was at tongue length on her arm.
Then-it leapt at her trying to sink its fangs into her arm. It didn't jump fast enough, Shinirael caught it by it's trachea with two fingers in one hand and two fingers in the other hand were near its heart under its esophagus. Shinirael could've charred or ripped the snake apart, instead he tossed it away.
"Next time be more careful." He chided Nabe.
"Why?" She asked with jaundiced eyes. "It's just a snake. Even if it bit me it wouldn't kill me."
"Because snake's are the most potent with their venom. My master Khatana94 had a sister before he created me and she was killed by a snake latching onto her ankle and injecting poison from its fangs into her. He doesn't just heal poison when he gets infected because there was no cure for her, he let himself die of poison all the time until the final days when he just wouldn't visit me anymore."
Nabe wasn't paying attention to his sorrowful story after he made it to the final sentence. It wasn't that she didn't care, even she found it sad and tragic, it was how the dragon writhed and howled in pain ahead of them. By the time she realized what was taking hold of him it was too late-he now spun around and faced them with a squirming labial in his only working left eye.
With a mighty roar he launched himself forward with one flap of his gigantic wings. His first victim was Shinirael which he swiped at first. Before he could even touch him with one talon, Nabe did a front slip, unsheathed her sword, and cleaved her blade into his right side. She let her blade linger inside him, leaving a long vertical cut trickling with blood, before jumping up in a rushed attempt to stab her sword down into his skull.
Although light on her feet and moving at a quicken pace, one rustle from the dragon shaking its spine back and forth made her lose her balance.
"Fly!"
She floated off his body with her back almost pressed against the tendrils sticking from his spine. Once she was perfectly upright and elevated she soared up and dived her blade towards his head. In a surprising move from the dragon, he bended his head back beyond how a dragon could normally move and spewed fire at close range. Unable to get out of the way, Nabe was scorched directly by the fire and plummeted down from being airborne.
This was her punishment for not using enhancement spells before engaging in a dragon probably at the level the dragon lords were at when the Eight Greedy Kings ruled the New World-now she was going to be stomped on by the front claw of the gigantic beast.
Quickly and without hesitation he raised his claw to stomp on her and the ground beneath her became a crater the size of a meteorite.
After feeling the vibration of the desert rumbling due to his tremendous size squashing very hard he raised his claw...nothing. No splattered blood, no ripped fabric of her cape, not even a few strands of her raven hair were in the giant crater he just made. Instead, she was far away trembling in her eyelids before opening them to see a fallen angel, more handsome under the glowering midnight, looking at her from chin to eyes.
"That was pretty good, but next time you need to think of ways to maneuver someone without being so feral and volatile." Shinirael smirked.
"I must have hit my head really badly back there." She started but trailed off possibly from the effect of a concussion. "My opine of you has changed from annoying to slightly dashing."
Shinirael wasted no time holding out his arm with a green light glowing in the palm of his hand. It touched her and was absorbed by her. Slowly the pain and dizziness were fading away which led her to believe he used a restoration spell.
It seemed he was empathetic enough to help restore her before sending her back in a quarrel with a dragon that could squash her-too bad he didn't account on the dragon already finding them with his night vision and taking one giant, breezy leap towards them like a bat looming at night.
Using both his hands to grab Nabe on her hip and her legs he leaped out of the dragon's way, he collided with a sandhill causing a sand flood to roil into his back. After avoiding the dragon he spun around to use an incantation:
"Maximize Magic: Cathartic Trawl Barrier!"
Like the name would suggest, he used his magic to conjure five energy based homunculus in knights armor to raise a net over him and Nabe. The dragon immediately spewed a flamethrower from his mouth that drenched the homunculus and eroded their armors' clean off.
The dragon managed to get its tail close to it's flamethrower, using its own resistance to fire to douse his tip in the equivalent of molten lava, and whipped its tail into the trawl...it exploded like a molten boulder spittle out of a volcano. However, by the time he hit the trawl...Nabe and Shinirael were no longer inside it. And they had teleported at such a long distance his night vision didn't help him see where they were.
His fire ran out, smoldering hot coals of smoke billowing from his nostrils. Took him awhile but he finally could breath fire with the gas emitting to his two sacs in his mouth. He turned around in a slow one hundred eighty degree spin burning nothing but leaving black soot in the soil of the desert.
Just when he was about to give up, a shadow of three legs and two heads covered his bad eye before shadowing his one good one. Turns out they weren't on the ground but floating in the sky.
Both had a blue aura over them but Shinirael still had his wings out. It seemed superfluous even for a dragon he would need to have his wings out until they swooped down from the sky to the ground as fast as he could twitch his claws. He swiped his claw at the last spot they were in and by the time he missed they left four serrated cuts on his ridge.
With incredible speed he felt the scorching sparks of electricity in his face. He tried pushing through it and spewing more electricity, but it felt like his insides were on fire. First it was electricity in his face then the sky rumbled-five lightning strikes came simultaneously down and struck him!
The dragon was seething with burning smoke from the electricity as he laid down breathing but too singed too move anymore. As for Nabe and Shinirael, they were standing on a sand hill far away from the charred dragon, gazing into each others eyes almost with a twinkle in their eyes.
Shinirael smile. "This is the part where you lambast me for getting in your way and putting my hands on you. Well...you better get that over with."
Nabe's face was a mix of that sour look she gives humans and a little bit sheepish. Shinirael felt it was presumptuous of him but he really wanted to stroke that ponytail of hers. To his surprise she beat him to it rubbing the hair on the nape of his neck. He felt a sort of ecstasy being close to her he never felt before. Although he wasn't human and couldn't comprehend how human emotions work, he took this ample time to press his lips against hers.
The kiss was a little mesh of comfortable and yet non-jocose unlike what his master Khatana94 said to PeaceWitch one time. He enjoyed it...it just felt they were so different the kiss wouldn't last so long.
...The next day they were at each others' throats until they made it to the castle.
