Happy Valentine's all :)
For the first time in a week, the rain hitting their bedroom window hadn't woken either of them up. Instead, the rare sunlight streaming through the blinds both Donna and Harvey had forgotten to close the night before illuminated the room. And perhaps due to the cabin fever of staying in most evenings due to the rain, Donna had all but dragged Harvey out of bed at seven in the morning, on a Saturday, declaring they had to make the most of the good weather before the weather turned again.
That's how Harvey finds himself walking through Pike Place Market, just before nine, with a bag of pastries in one hand and a coffee in the other. Donna is just up ahead, darting between open stalls and picking up various items.
"Donna, let's go find a place to eat then we can come back…"
"But Harvey…"
"Donna please…" Harvey whines, looking at her with his pleading, puppy-dog eyes for extra effect.
Rolling her eyes, Donna lets out a huff before carefully looping her arm through his as he guides them out of the market and towards some benches he'd seen earlier. They spend the next hour munching through the bag of baked goods, until Donna claims she couldn't eat anything more.
Harvey's just about to say something when he notices Donna looking just beyond him, and turns to see what she's looking at.
"What a lovely dress…" Donna says as the pair watch a couple, followed by a photographer, walk towards the Waterfront Park, for what they both assume are wedding photos.
"So do you think we should get some bagels for lunch?" She continues, turning her attention back to them. Despite claiming to be full right now, the faint smell of freshly baked bagels are sending signals to her stomach and she knows she can't resist them.
"You're happy right?" Harvey asks sharply and Donna doesn't raise her head, but gets up and sticks out her hand, indicating she's ready to head back into the market.
"Of course I am silly." She waves her hand again in front of his face and Harvey shakes his head before standing up and taking it. Donna's about to move when she feels herself pulled back, Harvey rooted in place next to the bench.
"I meant, are you happy with our wedding?" He tips his head towards the bride and groom who are busy staging photos.
"I loved our wedding…"
"But we didn't get photos like that…"
"Harvey, I think I would've filed for divorce if you dragged me down to Times Square for photos.."
He snorts at that, because the prospect of taking photos in such a public space doesn't really appeal to him. Not the staged kind of photos anywhere, he'd happily take photos of and with Donna anywhere.
"You didn't get to pick the flowers…" He reasons.
"The flowers were beautiful." She counters, making a move to turn but once again Harvey stands still.
"But you didn't wear white…"
"And I also didn't save myself until after marriage Harvey." She wiggles her eyebrow and he groans, the memory of them just that morning entering his mind.
"Touché."
When she makes a move to turn for the third time, Harvey doesn't provide any resistance and they begin their journey back to the market.
"So you wouldn't want another wedding?"
"Nope." Donna answers, accentuating the 'p'.
"This isn't one of those times where you're saying no but really mean yes?"
Donna snorts and this time, it's she who stops walking and brings her hands to brace his face, thumb gently stroking his cheek.
"I loved our wedding and I love you Harvey, I don't need another ceremony. I got what I wanted." She leans in, kissing him soundly.
"And anyway," Donna has something in her voice that makes Harvey feel like he's going to regret asking her anything that morning, "Isn't it fun to share an anniversary with Louis?"
"Donna!" Harvey all but yells, "We're having a second wedding immediately."
.
.
Donna and Harvey return to New York a month later, Louis having called them to arrange a pre-summer get-together and neither wanted to say no to another opportunity to see Lucy. Though, as soon as they'd arrived in the city, Louis had left her a message saying that Lucy was unwell and they would need to cancel their plans for the day. Seeing Donna crestfallen, Harvey had bribed her with a new dress and the option of picking any restaurant in the city to make up for it.
That's how Donna finds herself in a beautiful, dark green silky dress, sitting in a car doing all sorts of twists and turns as it makes its way through New York.
"Del Posto is a bit further up Harvey?" She says as she takes in the scenery, realising they'd gotten out of the car too soon.
"It's a 40 minute walk and these heels…" Donna continues, confused as Harvey takes her hand and begins walking them towards the waterfront.
"Harvey?" After a few more moments of silence, Donna gets even more puzzled when she sees a familiar restaurant up ahead. She says his name once again and still, he doesn't respond.
When they finally come to a stop in front of the restaurant, the Grand Banks, she tugs on his hand ever so slightly and finally he turns to face her.
"Everything okay?" He asks, like he doesn't know that her mind is currently flipping out. Donna just raises an eyebrow, indicating she needs an answer and is about to ask him yet another question when she spots a figure just beyond him on the ship-restaurant.
"Is that…Jessica?" Donna squints, then turns her full attention back to Harvey. "What's going on?"
"You said you didn't want another wedding," Harvey finally begins to explain, "But you didn't say anything about a party, just for us. With everyone we love."
Donna's jaw drops as Harvey stands there before her, looking at her so full of love she's ready to combust.
"I…"
"Lost for words huh?" Harvey chuckles, finally pulling her onto the boat. Donna just nods her head in surprise, which turns into a teary smile when her parents wrap their arms around her and tell her how beautiful she looks. And she can't help a happy tear fall when she sees Marcus hug his brother, and then begins to laugh when she sees Rachel and Mike appear from the small crowd. How sneaky, she thinks, that everyone had gotten onboard - and she groans at the entendre as she looks out at the New York skyline before her on the barge - with Harvey's plan to surprise her.
Hours later, Donna's standing at the end of the restaurant looking out at the illuminated New York skyline as the sounds of laughter from her nearest and dearest fill the air.
"You okay?" A voice asks before she feels a body stand behind her, arms wrapping themselves around her. She quickly turns in them, coming face to face with her husband.
"Thank you Harvey. I didn't need this but really, it means everything."
He doesn't say anything in response, just tightens his grip around her and places a kiss to the back of her head. Not too long later, they're pulled back into their circle of friends and family, dancing and drinking the night away, celebrating them.
As always, thanks for reading!
