Hey guys, I'm back! Welcome to chapter 3! Huge shoutout to arthiaanada for helping me with the plot, that was a super good idea and I think you for it. Also sorry if my writing is not very descriptive or anything or my word choices are bad but I am sorta young! Also if you have any software recommendations that will help with that that are free please pm me or leave it in the reviews. Another thing, I am changing this to first person point of view, tell me if it is better or worse and which you prefer. Thank you!
~Summary~
With a sickening thud she hit the cold ground and everything in her vision went black.
~Edmund~
"NO!" He screamed as his older sister crashed onto the rock hard ground beneath them. Beside him, he could scarcely make out what Caspian had said, as he was already steering Nightlifter into a dive.
"Wait your majesty, look." Caspian said urgently, he pointed to the castle gate where many troops were marching out clad with shiny steel armor and armed with swords and crossbows.
"King Edmund, I want to save her too, you have no idea how much I want to. But what use is saving her if we risk getting caught? We will go back for her once the men have cleared away." Edmund squeezed his eyes shut for a moment and clenched his fists so tight he could feel blood flow out from the new scar he had made. He looked down at Susan and the troops marching, getting closer to her each second.
"Your right. We will come back for her once the troops are gone." He said finally. Nightlifter hearing this decision flew off to the how, where Peter was waiting and he was returning without a sister.
"EDMUND SKANDAR PEVENSIE! YOU DID WHAT! WHAT THE BLOODY HELL EDMUND?! YOU JUST LEFT OUR SISTER UNCONSCIOUS WHEN THE TELMARINES WERE MARCHING OUT?! WHAT THE BLOODY HELL WERE YOU THINKING EDMUND?!" Peter yelled very loudly,
"Damn it Edmund!" I can't believe you, our sister may be dead out there and it is all because of you! I can't believe I trusted you, how could I have been so stupid?!" Peter muttered mostly to himself but loud enough that he and Caspian could hear it as well.
"How could you Edmund, I trusted you with one of the most important people in my life and you let me down. You are no brother of mine." He cringed at the sudden venom in Peters eyes as he walked away. There was a small noise and he turned Caspian who was laying unconscious on a cot on a cot, looking pale. After they arrived, he had immediately made sure that the centaurs had looked over Caspian and what they found was depressing. Caspian was deeply dehydrated, starved nearly to death and suffered from several sprained and bruised limbs. It appeared that he also had been branded, and his body was fighting an infection away.
Glenstorm told them that he would be mostly fine in a few days, as long as he ate, drank and rested enough. The only thing was that his sprained ankle would take at least a week to heal. Oh Susan. Where are you when we need you most? He thought with a sigh.
~Caspian~
Wake up Caspian, come on. You don't have time to rest, there is a war about to start. Wake up. You need to find Susan, you don't have time to rest. He thought. He forced himself to open his eyes, for a brief second almost thinking he was back in the Telmarine Castle; but then he saw a warm glow and stone walls surrounding him. Caspian attempted to stand but found himself to be to weak.
"Rest Son of Adam. Your body has been through much harm. Drink." A centaur said, handing him a flask of water. Without saying anything he took the water from him, drinking thirstily. In his opinion, water had never tasted so good. "You are weak right now, lay down." He did as he was told, knowing that it was for the best.
"Where am I?" He rasped with much difficulty. He felt lightheaded.
"You are in Aslan's How. When King Edmund arrived you collapsed, he asked us to look over you."
"I do not understand, I-"
"I advise you to not speak and rest instead Prince Caspian. As I said, your body is weak from the time you spent in the Telmarine Castle. You will need time to recover to full strength. I will bring you something to eat." He commanded. Caspian nodded, then regretted it. He pressed his palm to his temples, feeling lightheaded. Moments later the centaur returned with a plate of food. His stomach grumbled just at the sight of it.
"Eat, you must take it slow. If you eat to much your insides will burst." Caspian nodded and quickly took a spoonful of the delicious soup the centaur brought him. He was sure nothing had ever tasted so good in his life. But keeping in mind what he said, Caspian only ate a little, before sitting up on the edge of his bed.
"Thanks." He said, finding his voice a bit stronger.
"You are welcome. My name is Glenstorm, my prince. You must rest if you wish your body to heal faster."
"I do not wish to rest Glenstorm, do you know where High King Peter and King Edmund are?"
"I do. Shall I call for them?"
"Yes please Glenstorm." He walked out of the room and a few moments later returned with King Peter and King Edmund.
"Hello Caspian, are you feeling better?" King Edmund asked,
"A little, King Edmund."
"Call me Edmund, or Ed. I'm not a fan of titles among royals." He said casually.
"Ok... Edmund. When are we going to look for Susan?"
"Are you sure you want to come?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Yes. I know the land best, and I will be helpful." He replied firmly.
"Are you sure your up to it?" Caspian nodded,
"Of course." Bracing himself on the stone wall, he staggered to his feet, just barely managing to stay upright.
"Caspian I don't think it's a good idea for you to come."
"I need to. I was the one who told you to leave so I am coming to look for her." But Edmund shook his head.
"If you want to get better at all you need to rest, I can see you feet shaking." He attempted to shift his weight to his other leg, but forgot it was sprained. Pain shot up his leg like little needles poking and stabbing his flesh. He let out a small whimper and fell back to the bed.
"Your right." He told Edmund, though he hated to admit it.
"I know. Don't worry Caspian, we'll find her."
~Edmund~
"We'll find her." At least I hope so. No, I can't think like that, we'll find her, we have to find her. "Come on Peter. The Telmarines should have cleared out by now."
Without a word Peter nodded and calling out to the griffons, they set off.
Edmund felt Bronzewing beat his wings harder, before cutting through the air silently, pulling into a swift dive. All the while both boy and griffon kept a sharp eye on the ground, looking for any sign of the Gentle Queen. It was like this for hours, he and Peter scoured the forest, river side, and open fields both by air and on foot and nothing was found. Nothing. Not a single sign of life was found on the dry terrain surrounding the Telmarine Castle. At last both Bronzewing and Rainfeather landed.
"Have you found anything?"
"No. Not even a hair." He responded sorrowfully.
"We have to keep looking," Peter insisted, "Where else could she have gone?"
"You know where."
"Lets keep looking Ed." He sighed but nodded, the sooner Peter accepted the truth the better, but till then he would have to put up with it. Another 30 minutes passed of this pointless searching before he finally convinced Peter it was time to stop searching and to head back to Aslan's How.
"Your right. We'll have to write to Miraz and see if he has her, and if he does, Aslan help us."
"What are we going to tell Caspian?" He wondered out loud, Peter's gaze darkened.
"Why should we care if he's hurt about it? He's the reason we got into this mess anyways."
"Well you can't blame him. In fact, you should be thanking him instead. Had he not been there, I would have gone back for her. And if we had gone back for her we would all have been caught, then you would be missing 2 siblings and be short a griffion, we need every soldier we can get in times like these. We should be glad that Nightlifter is ok." It was Peter's turn to sigh.
"Your right. Lets go back and tell him the bad news."
~Caspian~
A few days before the Pevensie's came:
2 pairs of footstep echoed around the dungeon. It took all his efforts to look up just as Jackson and Ryker entered the room looking smug. (After sometime in the darkness your vision tends to adjust the slightest bit.)
"Well, well, well. Just look at the poor Prince Caspian X." Jackson mocked, "Bet you wish you weren't a prince right now." He said, making Ryker guffaw.
"Have you decided to give us our answer? Or do we have to force it out of you pathetic mouth?" Still Caspian remained silent.
"Alright then, guess we get to have some fun!" Jackson picked him up of the ground by the front of his shirt. True that he was light after not eating but Jackson was also strong. He tossed him through the air, and he would have hit the wall except for the fact that he was still chained to the ground. He hit the stone floor with a thud, winded. Not giving him even a second to collect himself Ryker grabbed his throat and slammed him against the wall; strangling him. He gasped for air not yet fully recovered from hitting the ground.
Faster then he expected he was choking, his hands scrabbled against Rykers firm hold desperately trying to free himself. Thankfully Ryker let him fall and as soon as he was able Caspian took a deep breath filling his lungs with the horrible damp air, but for Caspian he was grateful he had air at last. This time they let him get the air back in his lungs and waited till he resumed breathing normally. This time it was Jackson's turn to 'have some fun' again, the second he resumed normal breathing, Jackson grabbed his ankle and twisted it until a snap echoed through the room, he screamed in pain and his torturers laughed.
Crouching down Ryker whispered to him. "Just you wait 'Prince Caspian.' Even if you do give us our answer we will tell Miraz that you haven't just so that I can come down here everyday and hear you scream your pathetic throat raw and beg for mercy. But you know what? I will never give you mercy, you will obey my every will and wish just to stop being tortured but you will never escape from me. You will be my slave and my servant but you will never be free." Then he wrapped both hands around his neck and squeezed, tighter and tighter and tighter... then he kicked his ankle, Caspian let out a choked scream. And woke up in a cold sweat. The pain in his ankle was fresh, as if the nightmare was real. Unable to stop himself he started to cry. Soon enough he was sobbing into his lap, at the time he didn't care if crying wasn't 'manly' or if crying made him weak. Right then he just wanted to feel loved, to feel cared for and appreciated.
"Why are you crying my son?" He looked up at the sound of the voice and gasped, a majestic lion stood in front of him. It was Aslan. He was so stunned he lost his voice for a couple of seconds,
"Your majesty!"
"None of that, dear one, I heard your cry for help and I simply wish to say this." Aslan paused and looked at him, for permission to continue. He nodded, "All will be made right, do not fear. Trust in me and you will triumph." With those words, he blew on him. Caspian felt a strange sense of peace wash over him and instantly he felt calm. He blinked and Aslan was gone. But someone else stood in his place with a grave expression on his face.
"Edmund, did you-" But he shook his head,
"I'm sorry Caspian. We searched everywhere for hours. The Telmarines have her." But he didn't let that get him down,
He sighed, "I predicted that would happen. But we need to be calm and have faith in Aslan. While you were gone he visited me, he said to trust in him and we would triumph." King Peter had a wry smile on his face.
"Yes, we should always trust in him. Why don't you tell Lucy about that news? She'll be glad to hear it."
"Alright King Peter."
"It's just Peter, like Ed here said, I'm not a fan of titles among other royals. Shall I send Lucy here?"
"Yes please Peter." He nodded and both him and Edmund walked out.
~Lucy~
She sat quietly on the stone table, waiting for her brothers to return while tracing the designs on her cordial. While Peter and Edmund had gone looking for Susan, a dryad had found it and given it to her. She couldn't wait to use it for Caspian, just that she had to wait for him to wake up. It looked as if he was having a nightmare when she checked on him last. Lucy sighed. They poor boy had been through so much... It pained her that his own people, people who had known him all his and their life could do that to him. Well then, we'll just have to be the family he never had. I'm sure he would appreciate that, and I'm sure Susan would too. She thought mischievously, from what she had heard from Ed the two had grown exceptionally close, practically over night. According to him, he had found Susan asleep with her head on Caspian's shoulder and her cloak around both of them.
"Lu?" A voice startled her from her thoughts and she looked up,
"Peter! Edmund!" She exclaimed, running to the two of them. She gave them both bear hugs, "Guess what! When you were gone a dryad found my cordial and now I can use it on Caspian!" She cried excitedly.
"Really? Thats wonderful news Lu! Caspian has something to tell you too, Aslan visited him while we were gone."
"Really? Shall I go to him?"
"Yes, have you given him your cordial yet?"
"No, Glenstorm said to wait till he wakes up, since he needs his rest. I agree with him, I'll go do that right now!" She exclaimed cheerily. She skipped over to where Caspian's bed was, eager to use her cordial on him.
"Hello Caspian! I'm glad that your awake! One of the dryads found my cordial! Isn't that great news? Here let me give you some!"
"Hello Queen Lucy. It's alright, don't waste a drop on me."
"Nonsense, did you know that this cordial is magic, it automatically refills it self after being emptied. And it's just Lucy, none of that Queen business."
"Oh, of course, your- I mean Lucy." She giggled,
"Thanks, now can you please lay down?" He did as she said and she dropped a drop of her cordial into his mouth.
~Susan~
Susan opened her eyes and groggily looked around her trying to discern where she was. She noticed trees and sat up expecting to be sore. The last thing she remembered was falling of Nightlifter... while the Telmarines were marching out. But then why wasn't she in Miraz's castle? She heard paw-steps approaching her and quickly stood.
"Welcome, Daughter of Eve. I see that you are awake." A said a warm voice,
"Aslan!" She cried, filled with joy at seeing the lion, she ran over to him and hugged him so hard that he was knocked to the soft mulchy ground. "Your here!" She sang happily. After hugging him for a few more seconds she stood and sobered up.
"Aslan, what am I doing here? What happened to me?" She had meant it to be a serious question but he chuckled instead.
"Look behind you dear one." She spun around and gasped, a dragon 5 times the size of Aslan sat quietly behind her, looking at them with a curious expression on his face. (The dragon looks like Eustace.)
"Oh, he- hello." She stammered. The dragon chuffed and extended a claw. She politely shook it and smiled. "Thank you fine dragon." He smiled a dragon-like smile and she turned back to Aslan.
"So, I never hit the ground?"
"No, Oasis caught you and flew away, unseen by the Telmarines and your friends." Susan turned back to Oasis.
"Thank you Oasis. Your deed shall forever be appreciated." He nodded and chuffed again. "So may I return to Aslan's How?" She asked,
"Not yet, you shall wait here with me and Oasis who was sword loyalty to you at all times, till the time is right."
"Till the time is right for what?"
"That I cannot tell you. But I must warn you, your time here will not be long." She nodded, thinking he meant her time with him.
"Alright Aslan."
~Caspian~
I Peter, by the gift of Aslan, by election and by conquest, High King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel, Emperor of the Lone Islands.
In order to return my sister, Queen Susan of Narnia back to her rightful home do here by challenge the usurper Miraz to single combat upon the field of battle. The fight shall be till surrender, the reward shall be my sister. Until then she shall remain unharmed as a hostage at your castle.
Signed High King Peter, of Narnia.
"Alright, now that we are done with that, I think I should test out Caspian's sword skills." Ed said all of a sudden,
"Wait what? No way!" He replied half in panic, he knew how to fight considerably well. But in no way was he ready to fight Edmund.
"Relax mate, I'll go easy on you! Beside, it's not like you don't know how to use a sword." He insisted. Pushing him out the door. Laughing, Peter followed.
"I for one have got to see this."
"Oh really? From what I recall you never want to duel with me either O'Magnificent one." Edmund smirked and Peter blushed bright red.
"Shut up Ed." He grumbled. They both laughed, this is what he had always wanted, a family.
"Ok Caspian. Attack me." He unsheathed his sword and did as he was told. Swinging his arm he attempted to bring his sword to his opponents stomach in hopes of ending the duel early, but, like Miraz, he underestimated Ed's swordsmanship. He moved his sword with strength and speed but the younger king blocked it flawlessly. They dueled likewise, one moment Caspian having the advantage, the next Edmund. But ultimately the fight was entirely in Edmunds hands, as he was always in control. The duel ended with Edmunds sword at his neck. He laughed and put his hands up in surrender.
"Great job Caspian, I'm surprised! I can see that you are already almost as good as Peter is. If you take a few of my tips, you might just be able to beat him one day."
"Oh is that so Ed?" Peter asked, coming up behind them.
"Yes it is, if you are trying to say that you are better then that, surely you remember the last duel we had." Ed snickered.
"Yes, well my swordsmanship has grown better since then. Not that I'm better then you. I'm a long ways away from that." For the rest of the afternoon, that was what it was. Half the time training, and the other half roasting each other. Before long however they were to attend a council meet with the Narnians.
"Your majesty. The Telmarines grow closer every day."
"Yes Glenstorm, I would like to inform you all that I have written a letter to Miraz, challenging him to a duel. If I win, Susan is returned to us. If he does, then he gets to keep her."
"Are you sure that will work your majesty?" Glenstorm asked, still being respectful however.
"I hope it does, because I already sent it. Now we are just waiting for his response."
"I believe King Peter has done the right thing." Reepicheep put in. "His majesty is quite the swordsman, Lord Miraz doesn't stand a chance."
"Thank you Reepicheep, your faith in me is appreciated."
"Of course." Then with a flourish of his sword and a bow, the mouse stepped down.
"Alright, council dismissed." Peter said, and the animals left the room. "Caspian, I wanted to ask you something." He turned to Peter,
"Sure, what is it?"
"I do not wish to bring back bad memories but,"
"Peter." Ed warned, but he shook his head at him,
"No Ed, it's ok."
"If the Telmarines truly do have her, what will they do to her? How will they treat her?" He sighed, expecting that question. He himself knew that she was in a dangerous situation and was not very safe.
"Peter, please understand that Susan is in a dangerous situation. The chances of her being brought back here, alive and well are low. Miraz will know that she is a Queen of Old, and will send guards to force themselves on her. He will think that the second she has been 'bedded' she will no longer be worthy of the title of Queen, and that you won't accept her anymore, and will throw her out. He will beat her and torture her. I know Miraz and what he is capable of. And we need to move fast to get her out of there."
"Ok. Thank you for telling me Caspian, I know that that may have brought back bad memories but she is my sister and I wish to know what will happen to her." Nodding gravely he responded.
"Your welcome."
