And thus Chris decided to adopt a platypus. Only after finding out, that Katie – that's what she named her – was female, did she stop trying to use her as a means of foiling Ryouko's schemes. I have no idea, what made that plan sound so compelling to her in the first place. It must have been weird American TV. Wait, do they even show stuff, that doesn't involve cops beating up people and being celebrated for it?
I decide to let the topic rest for now. We do have to keep our eyes on Ryouko after all, you never know what she might be up to.
Luckily, our week ends without any major incident. There was this one announcement of hers, in which she among other things declared herself to be the one who liked Yuri the most in this world. Because an incantation containing "Yuri is cute, I like her, I like her very much, indeed, I like her" is not at all cringeworthy. But again, as I said, nothing happened apart from the cringe and I personally prefer cringing in embarrassment over cringing from fear.
It is evening on Friday – the last day of our work week. Some progress has been made with respect to the implementation of Xyz monsters. Kaiba Corp is currently in the process of making actual card designs, Ms. Nakano is adapting her AI according to the specification I gave her and someone else entirely is working on the duel disks. Surprisingly, it is not Chris. Despite her being our supposed expert on Momentum-based machinery also known as "the hardware girl", the only device of hers I have so far seen is the one that I've tucked away under my bed. The reason it lies there? It needs to be quickly accessible, but I also have to store it away just as quickly. I can not let myself be caught with it in my hands like the last time.
Either way, I start my nightly search of Yusei fanart. It is actually much harder in this world than I imagined it to be. For some weird reason unbeknownst to me, none of the image boards or artist communities I knew from my world existed here. There was only Twitter. That and a lesser-known knock-off used primarily to post pictures of anime elephants. There is one very talented person posting fanart of Aki, but the rest is filled with wild speculations about what cards could be made, suggestions on what cards should be made, how they should be made, how they should be distributed… It is a nightmare.
After doing the thing with the device and tucking it back under my bed, I slowly drift off into some wonderful sleep. I am enveloped in a bright and warm light, with soft and fluffy clouds forming underneath me where my bed just was making me ascend to the sky.
I meet again the old man, who has brought me to this world in the first place. It is now clear, that he is God, the one and only, as described by the Christian mythos. To be honest, I was never really that interested in the Buddhist and Shinto teachings. It just didn't click for me. But having an omnipotent God kill me by accident and then transport me into this world… I must say, it has a certain charm to it.
"Ah, Sakura, my dear Sakura." God takes a sip of his green tea. Apparently that's a thing in heaven. There is a second cup, presumably meant for me, so I do the same. "I see you've done a big step in the direction of saving this world from its certain demise. Modelling it after your world is certainly an interesting idea considering its circumstances."
"You praise me too…"
"But at the same time, you have been corrupted." He takes another sip. "Yes, it is even more clear now. I will send Daniel to exterminate the root of the corruption, but you have to fight the sin in yourself as well."
Fight the sin in myself? I guess masturbation is off the table from now on, then. I'm actually a bit relieved, though, it was really hard to find good pictures of Yusei and my imagination is sadly not vivid enough to use the same one twice. From now on my love for him shall be a pure one not tainted by lust, and I shall instead seek out marriage.
I start the next morning early, heading over to Café La Geen as soon as they open, so that I can wait for Yusei to arrive. And sure enough he does so, with Jack beside him. Does Carly know, that the two of them meet on weekends to discuss his love live? I doubt it.
"Good morning, Inoue-kun." Yusei waves at me friendly. "What a nice coincidence."
"Is she that worker of yours?" Jack appears as if he was already in the know of… something, I guess. "Little girls like her shouldn't tell me which cards to use."
"Jack, it's not like that." Yusei takes a seat on my table and Jack sits with him. He looks at me expectantly. "If you would."
"Should I just tell him?" I'm confused as to what exactly Yusei wants to me, but I pat my cheeks and get myself ready for a long conversation. But honestly speaking, I'm still not quite sure what to say. "What exactly do you mean by 'telling you which cards to use'?"
"Isn't it your plan to do away with Synchro Summoning?" Jack was visibly angry, as one would expect from a person, who has based his dueling career on that method.
"Don't worry. Synchro Summoning won't suffer from any changes," I try to reassure him. "If you plan to keep on using it, that is perfectly fine. You will only have to bear in mind the strategies of your opponents, as you already have to, being the King and everything."
"'Planning ahead with the strategies of my opponent in mind.' Jack Atlas doesn't need such cowardly tricks!" He slams his hands against the table.
I sigh. Jack really is just his stubborn old self, even if he has somehow made room for Carly in his heart. As soon as I think about her, something in his pants starts to vibrate.
Jack picks out his phone. "It's Carly's twitter." Thus we learn, that Jack has set his phone to vibrate whenever Carly tweets. Not sure if that's cute or creepy. "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?"
"What's wrong?" Yusei tries to sneak a peek at his phone, but Jack hides it quickly enough for him not to notice anything.
Jack remains awfully silent for quite a while, probably due to my presence. Since it has something to do with Carly and she's not here, I suppose something happened between her and Misty, but I can't really tell what exactly. The maids bring our coffee in the meantime, serving Jack's Blue Eyes Mountains and two Java Langs without even needing to ask Yusei or Jack for their order.
I take a sip of the bitter beverage, that I slowly got myself accustomed to over the past weeks. I'd still order tea whenever I have the choice, but I have learned to gulp it down. "So, what did Carly tweet about?" I decide to ask, as Jack can't even seem to enjoy his expensive coffee.
"It would take too long to explain everything to you. Besides, this matter concerns only Yusei and me."
"It's about herself then?" Yusei's careless attitude reveals the heart of the matter. Of course, I already know of Carly's love for Misty through my weekly spying activities, but that's not something I can reveal so easily. Instead, my excuse shall be, that I live across the street and Jack is not exactly known for his low voice. "Indeed, he can be quite loud." Yusei chuckles.
"Fine, I'll explain it." Jack pulls out his phone again and shows Carly's tweet. "Why must Café Lysé be closed today of all days? I was looking forward to cute maids." That's her tweet. I don't quite understand it. Carly has Jack and Misty and still wants to lust after young maids?
"Café Lysé? Never heard of it." Yusei asks Jack, what the café itself is about. He explains, that it's a relatively niche café in Itsukanda – never heard of that region before – that caters to queer people, especially lesbians. Misty wanted to take her on a date there, but… "I see. So her date plans got ruined."
"But why does that make you shout so loud?"
Yusei and Jack both give me a confused look before breaking out in laughter. "It seems, Jack can shout as loud as he wants. The fact, that he likes Carly that much, won't get across."
I end up enjoying a rather nice and uneventful weekend before coming back to Momentum Labs on Monday, realizing that I haven't really forwarded anything related to Ryouko's evil plot.
Speaking about Ryouko…
"Guten Morgen!" My thoughts are interrupted by the person herself greeting everyone with a happy smile. Apart from suddenly speaking German, she is also carrying a fairly large box with a Melitta® logo on it.
"Good morning, Nagumo-kun," Yusei greets her back, "what's that?"
"It's a gift from my German friend Albert." Is she now going to tell us her life story? "Some time ago, I complained to him, that my sweet Yuri has to use such an archaic brewing method here as I was asking around in various circles, whether there were better solutions. And, well, here it is."
So she brought her not-girlfriend an oversized coffee machine. How sweet, I could vomit.
"Okay, but how does it taste?" Yusei was of course very concerned with the taste of this bitter liquid most everyone is forced to drink here, because it had direct impact on the morale of the workers. Not to mention that he drinks a fair share of these as well.
Ryouko quickly finds a spot for the device on the kitchen table. It turns out it is a lot smaller than the box would lead you to believe – half of it was cartridges. After plugging in the device and filling in the cartridges, the machine responds with a nice, friendly "Nachladen". I assume, this means "I'm ready".
Ryouko then fetches a cup and presses some buttons. "Kaffeebrauen," the machine says while it brews coffee. I'm starting to learn a foreign language here. "Milchschäumen." Okay, I have no idea, what it's doing now. "Zuckern." And it's putting in some sugar.
Ryouko hands the coffee over to Yusei to taste-test it. He takes a sip… "Hmm, quite well."
"Danke," the machine responds.
We were so occupied with the German of this machine, that we almost forgot about the most important thing concerning its existence – it's replacement of Yuri's manual labour. "Where is Yuri even?" I ask.
Yusei sighs. "From time to time, Yuri can be quite late, especially on
Mondays. I wouldn't expect her before noon." I've never seen that happen before, but okay, if he says so. "But thanks to Melitta-kun, we no longer have to worry about her sleeping longer than she should."
Oh-oh. I sense a dangerous pattern here. If enough of Yuri's work is automated, she will lose her job and with that her financial security. Then she'll be forced into marrying a person she doesn't like just to stay alive – and wouldn't you know it, Ryouko enjoys the privilege of having a stable and well-paying job - or she could be thrown into an even larger debt ultimately ending up in slavery in accordance with that weird 2027 law.
I start questioning Ryouko's noble intentions. Is she really not aware of the effects her action might be having? A part of me thinks, that it might as well fit her usual obsession-based behaviour, but I can't really ignore the strong possibility of sinister intentions here. Either way, it is not the result of mere kindness.
I do have to wonder, whether Ryouko really has thought everything through, however. Was Yuri not a partner in that scheme of hers? Has she since become obsolete? Even if that was the case, I doubt she'd simply cut her off in such a manner.
There is no better way of figuring this out than asking the person herself. I'd rather not and you know why, but as this concerns a dear friend of mine – friend, I already consider her to be that… disgusting – I need some answers and I need them quickly. And thus I decided to confront her.
"Well, if you phrase it that way, I do appear quite sinister, but…"
"Lemme guess, 'not your intention'?"
"How did you know?"
What else did I expect?
"Hmm, let's see what she herself has to say on this matter, shall we?" Ryouko fires up her browser, starting to check her social media during office hours. And as if that wasn't already enough on its own, she was also browsing NSFW content. What would Yusei think if he saw her looking at pictures of young, probably teenage girls blushing with a luminescence bigger than the sun's as they're holding hands during office hours? "Doesn't look like she has anything new posted yet…"
"Can we talk about those drawings, and the fact, that you can't tell their age with those anime faces?"
Ryouko looked at me with a bewildered expression in her face. I mean, it is a known fact, that pedophiles get off on that and also all those "really 300 year old" lolis, but perhaps this knowledge hasn't reached her yet. "Does it really matter?" she asks. "They're probably the same age as each other and that's all that counts, is it not?"
"That's true in a vacuum, but…" I'm probably overthinking this. If I were to analyze it rationally, I would soon find Yuri – the person – to be a perfectly logical reason in Ryouko's mind to keep such images quite visibly in her timeline. Perhaps she was even the one to post it. And Yuri for all I know doesn't care about age either. If it has two women in it, it gets her stamp of approval. Okay, this might have been an exaggeration, but there's a real chance she's that simple.
Anyways, looks like I can't count on Yuri acting as a maid or Ryouko to reveal the truth behind her missing for the foreseeable future. It really does seem as if I will have to make my tea… by myself.
I am of course not the only one, who came to this realization and countless others have already gathered in the kitchen by the time I arrive. Even Hyona is there for some reason.
"Hey, Katyusha, I seem to be having some troubles implementing voice recognition in my VR. Can you help me with that?"
"What is problem? Matrix too small?"
"Not really. I'm using support vector machines, but there seem to be some overlapping regions."
"Have you tried Markov model?"
Conversations like that are all of the sudden happening in a way that I actually notice them. Not that I have any idea, what any of that means, apparently Kazuko is friends with this tall woman, who from the looks of it wears several layers of makeup. Recalling what Chris said to me on the first day, this must be the greatest effort I've yet seen when it comes to attracting Yusei's attention. On the other hand, seeing how much effort Chris puts into anything except her massager makes me want to doubt, that that is indeed the reason she wants to be so pretty. Her hyper-feminine appearance reminds me more of a certain person with horny pink hair… or perhaps I am reading too much into it.
"Y-y-y…" Hyona tried to speak. It was not very successful.
I sigh, knowing just too well how the large number of people currently present in this room add to her already quite shy attitude, creating this exact result. "Wanna step outside for a moment?"
I drag Hyona outside, where there are not as many people. This should help her calm down.
"Th-thanks." Her cheeks appear flushed for a brief moment before she hides them as well as the rest of her facial expression from me, fearing my reaction. Well, I can understand, that she is flustered by that, but does everyone here have to be secretly gay? I think Yuri might be adding some lily juice to our food and drinks. Let's see if things get better without her.
Hyona breathes in and out audibly, two or three times and then shows me her calmed down expression. I chuckle a bit. "No problem. So, what's up?"
"Y-your cards, they'll be printed soon. A-aren't you not a-afraid… b-b-bad stuff might happen."
Bad stuff? I don't think, that Kaiba Corp will go full zoo on us with the first booster set, but to be quite honest, I haven't really thought that far ahead. "Well, bad stuff does happen all the time, but so does good stuff." Is this the right avenue to calm her down? "In my opinion, the new summoning mechanic should be a net plus, especially if we consider its effects on momentum."
"B-but w-where will the energy for that summoning methods come from?"
"I don't know… space, maybe?" If only I had not slept on the ZeXaL lore, dammit! "Either way, it should not interfere with Momentum as far as I'm aware."
"L-let's hope that."
Come to think about it, it's now less than ten days until we get the first set of cards. I should probably go over them and review them first. Oh wait, I can't, because we only have those debug cards to test the prototype, that will probably not make it into the game itself. They must protect the designs themselves against accidental leaks after all.
I go about doing my job as always until it's time for lunch again. As Yuri is still missing, this means having to order pizza. Did I tell Yusei my preferences yet?
"Time for lunch, isn't it?" Chris' stomach growls just like the cliché dictates it to. I notice, that Yusei has not yet sent us a mail informing us about this serious issue… or at least I have not received one. Did he forget about it?
My first intuition was to search for him in the kitchen, but it turned out I did not even have to go that far. Yusei was just arguing with someone at Pizza Hut about the order. The specific way in which numbers get thrown around would cause anyone a headache, but he remains calm and composed even as he repeats this incomprehensible sequence multiple times. "Oh, and a Teriyaki Chicken," he adds, winking at me.
I turn back towards the office in embarrassment. Why did I even doubt him?
"Okay, so the tomatoes have arrived, but where is the rest of my pizza?" My cheeks must have been quite red if it was that hard for Chris to hold back her laughter. She did somehow manage to calm me down, however, or at least I was forced to laugh along thanks to her comment. "I assume food is on its way?"
"If the guys at Pizza Hut get their act together soon, yes." I chose not to reveal too much about Yusei's troubles to her and instead just prayed for his success.
Apart from the mysterious circumstances of Yuri's missing and the delayed pizza delivery, nothing was yet out of the ordinary. Or maybe it was and I just couldn't tell. I start telling myself, that everything will be normal tomorrow and follow my work, studies and sleep schedule…
Thus starts Day 2 of Melitta-kun. I wake up normally, brush my teeth, do my hair, yadda yadda, until Chris arrives with her car and drives me to the lab. It's a big day for her today, testing of her massager enters phase two, whatever that might entail.
As we enter the building, Ryouko greets us in her finest German just like she did yesterday. I ask her about news regarding Yuri, but of course she doesn't have any. "That in itself is highly suspicious, though," she admits herself. "Yuri is not the kind of person to stay absolutely silent for an entire day. I fear for her safety."
"Is it really that bad?"
"Unfortunately yes," the blue-haired man, who some days ago talked to her about something related to evolution confirms. "The princess sadly attracts a lot of attention from people wishing to kill her."
"The princess?" I ask. I recall him using that word to refer to Yuri once already. It's hardly an accident now, but is he really implying royal descent here? If so, what made her work as a maid in the first place?
"Don't mind Kaito, he's a bit too much into roleplay." Funny, that Ryouko would say that, when Chris already said the same about her. There is probably a lot more going on than I would like to, and the fact that everyone is hiding behind this façade of roleplay certainly does not make it easier for me to understand any of it.
"It's true, I added that onto her sheet on my own," Kaito seemingly acknowledges Ryouko's criticism, "but I did it, so that your obsession would appear more reasonable."
"Is that so? Well, then let's talk about…" And now the topic has derailed into the two of them meta-gaming and trying to rules-lawyer their characters' relation to Yuri. In other words, really childish stuff.
In the meantime, Chris wandered off with Hyona to some toilet. I wonder, what she's doing there. Oh right, I forgot that they're secretly gay thanks to Yuri's lily juice. When will that wear off?
"Ahh, Sakura, good to meet you." Yusei takes a sip from his machine coffee. Knowing how some people in the fandom characterize him as having a machine fetish – more specifically one for motorcycles, but whatever – this might even be perceived as a sign of quality. If not by Yusei himself, then at least by this caricature of him. "You're probably bored, waiting for your cards to be printed, right?"
I get the vague feeling, that he wants to put me into some different task now that he has the chance to, even if it contradicts some of his earlier statements. "A bit," I answer with a blush. I can't deny, that he is on the mark there. "I'm studying for my D-Wheel license at the moment."
"Even though you have no money for it?" I was already expecting Yusei to echo my own doubts, so it doesn't come as a surprise, when he actually voices them. He is still right, though. I came to this world with no money, do not gt pay this month, and even if I was, a month's salary is far less than I would need to take it. I knew all that, and yet…
"Say, isn't there a quick way to make lots of money in this world? Preferably dueling?"
Yusei is shocked to hear those words come from my mouth. "You should stay away from those as far as possible! It's dangerous!" Ah, he cares so much for me. I embrace him with all of my love. Ah, his abs feel so godly under his shirt. "I might be able to convince Ushio into letting you pay later…"
I look up to him and see him blush. "You'd do that?"
"I honestly don't know, how much of a help it is going to be, but I actually know him quite well." Yusei takes a step back, breaking my hug, then a few more before he turns his back to me completely. "Continue studying for now. I'll tell you once you can take the test."
That's one more problem taken care of. Now, if only that thing about Yuri didn't exist, I could probably be happy.
Ryouko and Kaito seem to still be arguing, this time about methods to rescue Yuri from whoever is chasing her this time. Is this part of her roleplay setting or is she in actual danger? I can't tell for sure, but if it is something serious, it would probably be wiser to get the police involved in this. That's their job, after all.
"Hello, New Domino City Police? I'd like to report a missing person." Since they're either unable or not willing to do this, I am going to have to.
"And who would that be?"
This voice, it can't be… or maybe it can. "Sagiri Mikage?"
"Ha ha, how funny."
"S-sorry, I was just surprised talking to someone as important as you." I let out a sigh. "In fact, it is one of my colleagues at work, Koizumi Yuri."
"Koizumi Yuri," Mikage repeats. "Koizumi Yuri…" From the sounds of it, she must be looking up that name in some kind of database. "What the fuck?" Mikage nearly raped my ear with that loud shout right next to it. Good luck that those two were still bickering or else I might have had their attention now as well. "This makes no sense…" she mutters to herself. "Are you sure, that this is your colleague?"
"Yes, why?"
Before I could hear more from Mikage, my phone is taken away by Ryouko, who hangs up for me. Great, now she will think this to be a prank. "What the fuck?" I ask her.
"That's my line. What made you believe, that calling the police would be helpful?" she asks me back in an aggravated tone.
"Oh, I don't know," I retort, "perhaps the fact, that a person is missing?"
"The police don't care about poor people like her," Kaito grumbles.
"And how do you know that?" I ask.
"I was supposed to help them back in the day," he responds. "But they didn't care about innocent lives if it meant having to accept my help."
I didn't really like the sound of that. Was Kaito supposed to be this town's Batman – not the hero it needed, but the one it deserved? Well, Ryouko sees herself as Yuri's lover, so perhaps that's not as far off as I would like it to be. Either way, I wouldn't be trusting someone, who casually says stuff like that, to do police work either.
Once Chris comes back from the toilet – and man, she and Hyona spent a long time there – I tell her about what happened.
"Just in time, I was also worrying about Yuri."
Is everyone only thinking about her? I must admit, I haven't been thinking straight since she went missing either, but that's partly also due to how the people around me define themselves in terms of her. I would be grateful if that wasn't the case. "So, what do you suggest we do?"
"We follow the two of them, of course," Chris decides. "I'll take you with me in the car, like always."
I nod in agreement.
"But first, we'll have to get to the actual reactor. Everyone."
Everyone? Myself included? To the actual reactor?
An elevator, that actually exists takes us several hundred metres underground.
"What are you hiding down there, Dr. Fudo?" Ryouko asks. "A cannon to shoot down the moon?" Heh, just a few days ago I would have accused you to be the one building such a thing.
"Don't be ridiculous," Yusei replies. "We have to put the reactor that deep under the earth for security reasons."
"What security? You expect a Zero Reverse to be stopped by rocks?" Ryouko was right, some things just don't add up here. You could build the Momentum Reactor at the core of the Earth and it would still cause land-splitting disasters, especially with how much more load it now has thanks to supplying all of Japan. And of course, for that we would assume, that one could even put it there. No, I think the reason it is kept this far underground, is so that ordinary people can not see it and therefore are not disturbed by its presence. It is a way of ignoring the risks of this technology, not an actual mitigation.
At long last we arrive at the site of the actual reactor. Small bits of dust have settled, probably thanks to the ventilation, but it otherwise looks just like in the anime. Speaking about the anime, there is a face I've been missing for a while now and that belongs to Akutsu. If I remember correctly, he clapped for Yusei in episode 152, along with a large number of unnamed staff. Of course said unnamed staff isn't really unnamed after you learn their names, so it would be pointless to look for them, but Akutsu had a minor role to play. What happened to him?
"Just as I had expected," Yusei says to himself. We all follow his line of vision leading up to the giant spinning energy disks inside the reactor. They are as rainbow-coloured and pretty as always.
"What's wrong?" To me and a lot of others, this image by itself does not really tell us much. We need some commentary.
"Momentum is accelerating. I can see it."
"With your bare eyes?" I'm not sure, whether Ryouko was playing shocked or genuinely shocked, but yes, with his bare eyes.
"He's right, I can sense it too," Kaito said. For some reason, Ryouko puts more trust in him as he was not questioned even though his reasoning was weaker.
Chris activates her massager in live mode and it vibrates heavily. "There's a strong resonance. Could there be a leak?"
"There aren't any major tournaments going on right now, are there?" I ask.
"That on its own would not explain this behaviour," Yusei explains. "Even if there was a tournament, you'd have a spike over the course of the duels, but this is different." He proceeds by showing us the thing, that everyone wanted to see, a graph with curves. It doesn't matter whether you're a scientist or an economist, people do love them curves.
"I see." Ryouko nods repeatedly. "Yes… interesting…"
"So this subtle increase dates back to Monday?" Chris noticed – just like everyone else did – that Yusei put particular emphasis on a certain day and time. Monday, 9:37am. Most of us were having a coffee break back then and it is a small change, but from this point the energy values were measurably higher than before.
"Yes, though it might as well be a red herring." Yusei himself takes a look at the graph by turning around – very unprofessional – but quickly turns back to us. "I will have another look at all this data and come up with a different explanation, but in the meantime, I want you to assemble a small team to check, that nothing is wrong with the reactor itself." He directed this order at Chris, since she was the one who asked the question.
"Is it okay, if I take just Sakura, Ryouko and Kaito with me?"
"Do whatever you think is necessary."
Yusei leaves the room with the rest of the researchers and the four of us are alone in trying to find faults inside this giant contraption. Naturally, this was not a task, that could be solved within a day.
"Don't forget, that there are cameras down here," Ryouko reminds Chris. "Regardless of what you're up to, we at least have to act as if we're searching for this supposed cause."
"Don't mind that, I have a device for this." Chris pulls out a device for this. It appears to be built out of three concentric circles and a needle and might work like a three-dimensional compass? "I use this for detecting leaks in my own Momentum engines. You can move it freely, but if left to its own devices, it will align itself with the direction of an existing Momentum flow. The needle is quite sensitive, so the rest of it acts as a counterweight."
In other words, if there was a leak in the reactor, one would expect this device to point towards that leak. And interestingly enough, the needle did point towards the ceiling, just where the reactor was located at. It would be difficult to get closer to it for more exact measurements, but Chris had to more of those devices. She handed each of us one of them and now we were supposed to scatter over the room, so that she can "triangulate" something something technobabble.
Chris sighs. "This reactor is more broken than I thought."
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"The triangulation failed. I didn't get an exact point." She explains something about error margins, that I don't quite understand, before showing the calculations she has made, which would indicate, that her device is attracted by at least two distinct holes, neither of which we can pinpoint with enough accuracy to her liking.
So our mission to find out what's wrong with the reactor ended in a "we know something, but it's worse than we know." We're up for a great start.
Yusei takes some of our colleagues on a drink, and whenever he leaves the building none of us are anymore allowed in it, so we have to leave as well. While there is already little we can do to grasp the situation at hand, it does leave a bit of a sour aftertaste to just let the problem continue to grow unchecked. Hopefully nothing bad will happen until we can fix it.
