A/N: There's a note at the bottom about Rin's newly discovered… thing. Make sure to read that.
I'm sorry it's been, again, FOREVER since I've updated this. Going through some mental stuff and still trying to get motivation to write. And trying to think of more original ideas. (There's research I have to do, I have to find time to rewatch the show for some episodes, etc.)
Don't hate me for this being short and not having any fluff. T-T

Rin let out a sigh, stretching her arms above her head, as she walked into her house after having dinner at the Sand Sibling's house.
"I'm home!" she called out as she entered the kitchen.
"No need to shout, honey," her mother said as she turned from the sink to face her daughter with a smile.
"Oh hey, Ma," Rin said. "I actually wanted to ask you about something."
"Oh?"
"Well, I was training with my team today,"
"Oh, how are Kyo and Riku?"
"They're fine," Rin said as she took a seat at the counter. "I wanted to ask about my Kekkai Genkai." Her mother turned to her, her eyes showing surprise momentarily before she grabbed a towel to dry her hands.
"What did you want to ask me about it?" her mother asked as she took a seat beside her. "Did something happen?" Her tone was serious and concerned. Rin blinked in confusion.
"No, nothing happened." Her mother visibly relaxed. "Dad and Kenta both have a Storm release for their Kekkai Genkai, right?" Her mother nodded. "You don't though… and I don't either."
"Well, you might, Kenta didn't try to use his until his chunin exam."
"I know but he had dad to train him when he found out his chakra nature," Rin said. "Dad never started to train me when I found out mine."
"Well, your father has been away a lot lately and when he's home he deserves to relax but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to train you," she told her with a soft smile.
"What is your Kekkai Genkai?" Rin asked. "There's a chance I could have it too, right?" Her mother hesitated. She let out a sigh and looked down at her hands in her lap, still holding the towel.
"I guess I put this off long enough," she said in a quiet voice. Rin frowned.
...
Later that night, Gaara was sitting on his bed, criss-cross, meditating but opened his eyes suddenly. He stood and went to his window, looking down he saw Rin. The sand below her rose slowly until she was at his level. She climbed into his room as he moved out of the way.
"Rin?" Gaara watched her silently walk past him and sit on his bed. He approached her and tilted his head in question. He didn't like the look she had on her face. She turned her head to look at him and slowly met his eyes. "What's wrong?" he asked. Gaara moved to sit beside her, facing her.
"Have you ever heard of the Chinoike Clan?" she asked.
"Chinoike?" Gaara frowned and shook his head. "I don't think so."
"They wiped themselves out years ago… except for a few." Rin stopped. "My mother was only a kid when her and my uncle left. There's a chance I could have the same Kekkai Genkai as them." She sat there silently, turning her head to look down at the floor.
"Are you okay?" he took her hand gently.
"I don't know."
"Your mother is from the Chinoike clan?" Temari's eyes were wide as she sat across from Gaara and Rin at breakfast the next morning. Rin had just finished telling the older sand sibs what she'd told Gaara that night.
"You've heard of them?" Kankuro asked as he turned his head to look at her. Confusion was clear on his face.
"I'm not surprised you haven't," Temari said. "They don't cover it as much in school in Suna. Maybe in Konoha, but even then the chances are slim that many of the younger ninja know."
"How the heck do you know?" Kankuro asked. Temari gave him an annoyed look.
"As a ninja it's important to know as much as you can about other counties. You never known where a mission will take you."
"Show off," Kankuro muttered. Temari ignored him.
"The clan started out as a mercenary clan in The Land of Lightning. At some point one of their women married the daimyo. Soon after the wedding the daimyo died and his first wife blamed the Chinoike woman. Obviously people believed her and the clan was banished to the Valley of Hell in the Land of Hot Water," Temari explained, remembering what she'd read about them. "But there aren't any left, they apparently all killed each other and there hasn't been any confirmed for decades… well besides your mother obviously." she paused and looked at Rin.
"We don't know if I have it," Rin said, answering the blonde's question before she could ask it.
"Huh? Have what?" Kankuro asked. He looked between the two.
"The clan's Kekkai Genkai," Temari answered.
"Ketsuryūgan," Gaara supplied.
"Blood Dragon Eye?" Kankuro's eyebrows shot up as he looked between the three.
"It's a type of Dōjutsu," Rin said.
"Well, what does it do?" Kankuro asked. Rin took a breath.
"All I know is what my mother told me," she started. "They can manipulate any liquid with a high concentration of iron… like blood. Their genjutsu is very powerful as well. They can prevent mind reading, put people to sleep and even brainwash them. My mom said no one's ever been able to break out of it, that she's seen."
"Better than the brat Gaara fought?" Kankuro asked.
"Lee?" Rin looked utterly confused.
"Did you see him use genjutsu?" he asked, clearly annoyed. "The other kid! The Uchiha."
"Geez," Rin mumbled with a pout, leaning closer to Gaara. "Someone steal your make-up?" Kankuro scowled while Temari chuckled and Gaara held in a laugh but smirked. "My mom said the Uchiha clan were the ones to help banish the clan from The Land of Lightning to the Valley of Hell in the Land of Hot Water. So I don't know if they're matched or whose is better."
"Well, is the blood thing the only thing you can do?"
"We don't know if she can do it," Temari corrected.
"Well… my mom mentioned that they can infuse poisonous chakra into a target and… if that person happens to bleed… they blow up."
"And how does she know this?" Kankuro asked with wide eyes.
"I mean… I didn't ask."
"Just don't piss off her mother," Temari advised with a smirk.
"Or Rin," Gaara added with a smirk. Rin nudged him slightly and he nudged her back.
"The last thing she told me is that they can also transform themselves by manipulating their own blood… expanding it, to look like someone else until they get the extra blood out."
"That is stupid powerful but also very creepy," Kankuro leaned back in his chair. "That makes Gaara look like a puppy." The red head gave his brother a sharp glare.
"Again, we don't know if I have it or not," Rin stressed.
"How would you be able to tell?" Gaara asked.
"My mom said my brother will help me see if I have Storm Release… if I don't then... she's going to test it."
"Just do what I do," Kenta said as he faced an open training area. Rin nodded and leaned in closer to watch his hands.
"Rat, Tiger, Dog, Snake, Dragon," Rin mumbled naming each hand sign as her brother made them.
"Storm Release: Laser Circus!" Kenta shouted. Bright energy spread around his hands in a halo before covering them completely. Suddenly beams of electricity shot out from his hands towards a trio of training dummies. The beams split and hit each dummy, effectively zapping them, burning them.
"Woah!" Kenta grinned as he turned to Rin. Her eyes were wide and her mouth open in awe. "That was awesome!"
"Alright, your turn." He motioned towards the dummies. Rin nodded with a look of determination on her face. She let out a breath before performing the signs. When nothing happened Rin frowned. She tried again, focusing her chakra into her hands, but when nothing happened she turned to Kenta.
"Well, that one's a bit advanced… try this one." He turned to the dummies and preformed another set of hand signs.
…
After trying a few different jutsus with no affect, Rin found her mother and reluctantly told her that she was certain she didn't have Storm Release. Her mother sat her down and showed her how to activate the genjutsu to prevent mind reading. She let her practice as long as she needed before testing her.
"Okay," Rin said when she was ready. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as her mother sat down across from her.
Her mother smiled sadly when Rin opened her eyes.
A/N: So basically I just googled which kekkai genkai that would make eyes red that wasn't sharingan. This one came up and I decided it did not fit Rin AT ALL so I was gonna give it to her anyway. It's not mentioned in the main series, it's brought up in a side story, even though apparently the clan is apparently super well-known/famous. BUT, there's still not much on it. I will be using what I know about it and probably adding things cause no one knows what it can and can't do.
I suggested the explanation video by "Swagkage" on YouTube if you wanna get a better canon understanding about it.
It is honestly stupidly over-powered and is apparently better than the Sharingan but that doesn't mean I'm making Rin over-powered. Again this isn't an action story. I will be making up jutsus to the best of my ability when needed.
