Chapter 24
Tempest found the Super Sumo league.
He paused before the massive arena that they tend to use for their events, there are no other places that can hold them anyways. With a deep breath he pushed open the doors and walked in with his gear in a gym bag. The moment he came through the doors, the sumos lingering about froze.
They were all roughly the same size as Raiden, yet there weren't looks of disgust on their faces. In fact, they appeared rather fearful of him! "No way," one whispered.
"You shitting me? He's coming HERE?" other muttered.
"You saw what happened to Raiden right?"
"Everyone saw what happened to Raiden!"
"Still, if he can do that to Raiden, why the hell come here?"
Tempest paused as he turned to everyone who whispered. They stopped instantly as he approached the door of the chairman. He knocked rather loudly but got a rather harsh answer back. "STAY THE HELL AWAY! I AM NOT IN THE MOOD TO TALK!"
"Sir, it's Tempest Brawler," he said.
There was silence, the door flung open as the chairman froze and stared at him. "Tempest… You came!?" he asked with great amazement. "HAHA! The other league shot itself in the foot for not taking you in! Come, let's talk!"
He nodded and entered the office. He took a seat before the desk as the chairman remained standing. There was a grin on his lips that couldn't be contained. "You… you beat Raiden." He said. "You could have beaten him back at the event too, couldn't you?"
Tempest merely nodded. "Out of respect for his record as well, knowing he wouldn't leave me alone if I had won, I opted the for the lesser of the two evils." He explained. "But the question I wish it ask is this. You know I am not human, and yet, you insist on me coming here?"
"I know what the people want, and I know what sells, YOU, put butts in the seats. I noticed our attendance went down the moment you became Yokozuna. People gravitate towards you, for you hold the tradition well. We do it a little differently here, however, I feel you would be a wonderful edition to our ranks!"
He lowered his head respectfully. "Thank you for your kind words, however I know I have to earn…"
"I want to make you Yokozuna… here and now"
He froze to the decree. "Wait, what?"
"You heard me, and I also heard the murmurs outside from the others. They are TERRIFIED of you!" he said and laughed. "Not to mention, the way you defeated Raiden, you did so in tradition. The videos I saw that people posted, you never used a closed fist, you used sumo moves. That alone spoke volumes to me, as well, you are the first to do so to Raiden…"
He gulped his pride a little, he knows he got carried away in that fight too. "Sir, with all due respect and as much as I appreciate the boost to become Yokozuna once more. I do have a request."
"I'm all ears."
"Let me earn it the same way I did in the last league. Despite them knowing of my abilities, I still fought every sumo wrestler in every rank to prove that I belonged where I did. Permit me to do the same here so I am not stepping on anyone's toes. I will battle everyone in your ranks at least once. If they feel they want a rematch, I will honor it. But permit this, as a sign of fair play for those who have come before me."
The chairman was stunned.
In fact, he sat in his oversizes chair in disbelief to what was spoken. "You want to earn it?" he asked bewildered to the thought. "If I had asked any other sumo wrestler here, they would have jumped at the chance to be pushed to the top… interesting…" he said offhandedly.
"I do believe it will be a better situation for everyone if this happens. Can we agree on that?"
He nodded to his conditions. "When do you want to start?"
Tempest shrugged. "Any time, I will need a little practice to ensure I am in ring condition to wrestle to say the least."
The smile on the chairman's face couldn't be contained, he reached into a locked suitcase and took out a contract. "I've kept this with me, this case has never left my side, I have been waiting for this day!"
Tempest carefully read over the contract. He paused to a particular clause. "What's this? Special event stipulation and… wait…" he appeared confused. "You want me to turn serpent for this?"
"It's a little thing I thought up of. I would like to do an event, a fun one, no ranks are involved of the sumos we have going up against you in serpent form. We will do simple and yet fun tasks, like tug of war, and what not. We usually do this as an introduction for those getting into sumo wrestling…"
"Ah, I've done those events before… but why have me be a serpent to do it?"
He smiled. "I find your form as a serpent very elegant and also appealing. People speak of it all the time in fact. Also it would show the world how strong you really are, also, how in control of your strength you really are too. Is that a problem?"
He thought it over. It wouldn't be a bad idea. "Just as long as it's for fun, no ranks are involved and I don't do anything that would harm another. I'll agree to the clause." He even wrote that in the space near the bottom to ensure it's in there. After that, it was a smooth contract. He signed off on it and passed it back to the chairman.
In return, he slid another piece of paper to him.
"What's this?"
"Your signing bonus."
He peered down at the cheque.
Tempest hasn't seen that many zeros before…
